Al-Heliq: International Community Must Withdraw Recognition from the GNA and Stop Turkish Invasion of Libya
[ALMARSAD.CO] Sheikh al-Senussi al-Heliq Al-Zawi, the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of Libyan Sheikhs and Elders, said that the popular mandate was given by people and tribes to the Libyan armed forces, except by those from the western region where clashes are taking place. He adds that the mandate should be ratified by the House of Representatives (HOR) and the Supreme Council of Sheikhs and Notables of Libya, before heading to form a unified national government.

#1  Important because the Sufi Senoussi brotherhood still has many followers in Libya. The Pretender to the Throne of Libya and Head of the Senussi and potentially the next King of Libya is Sayyid Muhammed bin Sayyid Hasan ar-Rida al-Mahdi as-Senussi. He is son and heir of the late Crown Prince Hasan ar-Rida al-Mahdi as-Senussi. Hassan was the Crown Prince from 1956 until uncle King Idris was deposed by Qadafi in 1969. Hassan became head of the Senussi on death of King Idris in 1983. He went into exile in London in 1988. He died in London in 1992 and his son Muhammed became his successor both as Senussi leader and Pretender to the Throne of Libya. Prince Muhammed as-Senussi is today recognised by the Libyan Constitutional Union as his father's successor.

#2  Do Libyans imagine the long-exiled royal family could succeed in retaking power, b? A few years ago I happened to meet a lady-in-waiting of the Iranian royal court, just returned from her regular duties and glad to be home and among normal folk again, so I know the Iranian aristocracy in exile maintains a semblance of the old customs — but the steps involved in climbing back on the throne elude me.

#3  The Senussi visualize a power-sharing. They are aware that they have no chance to win via an election. However, they would hope for a modus vivendi that would allow the Senussi a figurehead position in a Libyan polity, and one that would ensure their survival in a world where Muslim Sufi are increasingly under threat.

Algerian President: We Did Not Bring One Bullet Into Libya, and We Are Capable of Solving Its Crisis
[ALMARSAD.CO] In an interview with Algerian media officials, as reported by Sputnik News, President Abdel Majeed Tabun said: "We were very close to resolving the Libyan crisis, but they did not allow us. All Libyan tribes support the Algerian solutions, and we are capable of solving the crisis."

He emphasized that they support legitimacy and resolving the conflict in Libya as long as the resolution is truly Libyan without foreign interference, noting that Algeria has not brought into Libya any bullet, but only brought in food and medicine.

He also stressed that Algeria is capable of solving the Libyan crisis and will not abandon its brothers, adding: "The crisis cannot be solved by fighting but by going back to the discussion table as soon as today or tomorrow. We do not desire to see the blood of our brothers being shed."

Chancellor Aguila Saleh Refutes Rumors and Provides His Vision for Libya’s Future
[ALMARSAD.CO] In a special interview given to Al Marsad on Friday evening, Chancellor Aguila Saleh Issa, Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives (HOR), denied any differences between him and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all. Actually, he is, but slowly...
in particular, and the General Command in general. He said whoever believes there is a dispute between him and the Commander-in-Chief or the General Command is trying to promote fake controversy. In the interview he clarified the statements quoted by the US Embassy during his conversation on Thursday with the US Ambassador Richard Norland.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan Has List of 299 Prominent ISIS and al-Qaeda Leaders in Syria He Wants to Send to Libya
[ALMARSAD.CO] An article published in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
Now on Friday revealed that the Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
is bent on pursuing his ambitions in Libya by destabilizing the country through the transfer of terrorist leaders from pro-Qaeda Nusra Front and ISIS organization to the capital city of Tripoli

Daniel Pearl's parents move SC to reverse acquittals of four accused
[DAWN] The parents of murdered US journalist Daniel Pearl filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of Pakistain on Saturday to reverse a decision overturning the longstanding convictions of four men in the case.

The Sindh High Court (SHC) had last month acquitted the main accused, British-born Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, and three other men convicted in Pearl's 2002 kidnapping and beheading.

"We have filed an appeal of this decision to the Pakistain Supreme Court," Pearl's father, Judea Pearl, said in a video message.

"We are standing up for justice not only for our son but for all our dear friends in Pakistain so they can live in a society free of violence and terror and raise their children in peace and harmony."

#1  Oh, for the good old days. I still remember reading a contemporaneous account of a Colorado railroad wage argument ending in the murder of the chief engineer. The sheriff locked up the perp, but the other workers dragged him down the stairs from the jail, banging his head all the way down the stairs, and strung hm up. 24-hour turnaround.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria says Russian missile defense system ‘ineffective’
[MEM] The Syrian military has criticized the Russian S-300 missile defense system, saying that it is largely ineffective against Israeli air strikes, Avia.pro reported yesterday. A Syrian military source told the Russian outlet that the radar used on the S-300 and the Pantsir-S systems has proven to be incapable of detecting and hitting Israeli cruise missiles on numerous occasions.

Other Russian air defense systems incorporated into Syria’s military infrastructure were said to be even more “backward”, such as the S-125, Osa and Igra air defense missiles.

This is not the first speculation about the effectiveness of these air defense systems, as they date back to the Soviet era and were supplied to the then USSR’s Syrian Baathist ally from the 1960s to the 1980s. They don’t bear comparison with more recent systems that Russia has manufactured, such as the S-400.

Radars which do work, however, are reportedly those manufactured and delivered by China in recent years, such as the long-range JY-27 and JYL-1 systems as well as the LLQ120 radar which detects low-altitude targets. These, the Syrian military has said, work successfully in their detection of Israeli missiles and help the success of some Russian air defense missiles. A potential solution, according to Avia.pro, could be to import more Chinese radars to work in conjunction with the Russian missiles

#8  One thing that the Syrian and Middle Eastern conflicts has proven, once 1st world modern military tech is brought in, is that Soviet and Chinese tech is shit compared to it. Maybe the newer stuff is better, but I doubt it.

#9  The Israelis haven't had time to spoof the Chinese radars...yet. Supposedly. Or they do not see it appropriate to reveal that capability at this time.
