Afghanistan
More resignations as Taliban try to heal leadership rift
[DAWN] Two more senior figures in the Taliban's Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
political office have resigned, Lions of Islam said Thursday, as the movement began efforts to reconcile feuding factions amid an increasingly bitter leadership struggle.

Splits have emerged at the top of the Taliban following the appointment of Mullah Akhtar Mansour as replacement for Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
, the movement's founding leader whose death was confirmed last week.

Read: Facing dissent, Afghan Taliban meet to resolve leadership dispute.

Some top leaders of the Islamist insurgency, including Omar's son and brother, have refused to pledge allegiance to Mansour, saying the process to select him was rushed and even biased.

Tayeb Agha, the head of the Qatar political office set up in 2013 to facilitate talks with Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
, resigned on Monday in protest at Mansour's appointment and on Thursday two more members followed suit.

Take a look: Head of Taliban's Qatar office quits.

Former diplomat Aziz Rehman and Mawlavi Nek Mohammad, who served as a deputy minister during Taliban rule, both stepped down, according to a statement issued through a recognised Twitter account used by the political office.

The bad boy group on Thursday named Tayeb's deputy Muhammad Abbas Stanakzai, who served in the 1996-2001 Taliban government, as the acting head of the Qatar office.

The news, underlining the deepening divisions in the movement, came as Death Eater sources said holy mans were leading meetings in Pakistain, where some Afghan Taliban capos are in hiding, to try to patch things up.

At one gathering on Wednesday, Mansour met Omar's brother Mullah Abdul Manan and urged him to accept his leadership to ensure the unity of the movement, Death Eater sources told AFP.

Omar's son Mullah Yakoub has been touted as a possible alternative leader, but a Taliban cadre said some senior holy mans are openly opposed to him.

They argue the family link is not a good reason to be chosen as Taliban leader, saying Islam as a religion is against choosing someone on the basis of inheritance.

The bid to heal the rifts is expected to drag on for weeks, depriving the Taliban of clear leadership at a crucial moment as it considers whether to pursue a grinding of the peace processor with Kabul and faces a rising threat from the rival Islamic State

group.

Many Lions of Islam oppose what they see as Pakistain's attempt to force the Taliban into direct peace talks with the Afghan government.

Mansour and his two newly named deputies are seen as close to the Pak military establishment, which has historically nurtured and supported the Taliban.

But despite the divisions, there has been no let up in bad boy attacks.

A total of nine people were killed Thursday in multiple attacks on police targets -- the first first major Taliban assaults since the announcement of Omar's death.

UK Police Link Beach, Museum Attacks in Tunisia
[AnNahar] British police helping the Tunisian authorities investigate the beach massacre that left 30 Britons dead said Wednesday they were linking it to an earlier attack on a Tunis museum.

The Britons were among 38 holidaymakers bumped off at a beach hotel near Sousse on June 26, three months after a shooting at the Bardo Museum in the capital Tunis in March. Both attacks were claimed by the Islamic State

group.

"The attack at the Bardo museum which left 22 dead, including one British woman, is now being linked to the Sousse murders," said Commander Richard Walton, head of counter-terrorism at London's Metropolitan Police. He said he could not give further details because the investigation was still live.

"I can confirm that a team of officers, led by a senior detective from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, are working closely with the Tunisian authorities on both investigations and we have advised the coroner of the connection between the two," he said.

Tunisian authorities have previously said that the gunman in Sousse received training in Libya at the same time as the two men behind the Bardo attack and may well have known each other, although they could not confirm that.

In the June attack at the Imperial Marhaba Hotel, 23-year-old student Seifeddine Rezgui bumped off foreign tourists after pulling a Kalashnikov assault rifle from a beach umbrella.

Many of the British survivors flew home shortly afterwards and detectives here have been collecting details of their harrowing experiences. Walton said that officers had so far taken 459 witness statements and were examining more than 370 photo and video files from mobile phones.

A number of witnesses had referred to a second gunman wearing red shorts. The police commander said Sherlocks now believe he was a member of beach security, although they "retain an open mind on this issue".

He added that about 150 people had been tossed in the slammer
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
in Tunisia in relation to the Sousse attack, of whom 15 have been charged with terrorism offenses and remain in jug.

Walton praised the Tunisian investigation but the attack has caused tensions between Britannia and Tunisia after London advised its tourists to stay away, warning that local authorities could not protect them.

Turkish woman tells how brother and son fled to ISIL's stronghold in Syria
[Hurriyet Daily News] A Turkish woman tells daily Hürriyet how her brother and son fled to ISIL’s stronghold in Syria, al-Raqqah, where American drones taking off from Turkey started to bomb on Aug. 5. “My own brother, my flesh and blood, tricked my son,” the Central Anatolian woman says, noting how ISIL “freezes over” the brains of Turkish recruits with videos of luxury homes in Syria, making them declare even their parents “infidel.”

DHS To Move ICE Border Funds To Other Agencies
WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security will propose to Congress to direct $110 million away from Immigration and Custom Enforcement’s budget and reprogram it to other agencies within DHS like the Secret Service and DHS cyber operations, a source with access to information within ICE told The Daily Caller.

“The DHS justification is, ‘Well, ICE, you’re not using all of your budget, and, it’s coming from bed and deportation money, because you can’t arrest people and you can’t detain people. So it doesn’t makes sense that you’re not using your budget, so we are going to take it away from you and give it to other divisions of homeland security,'” the person said.

Additionally, according to the source, DHS plans to take away the home-to-work government vehicles that ICE employees use.

“And so now ICE officers are shaking their heads saying, ‘Hey they don’t let us do our jobs and now they’re taking our budget and our money away from us and our cars, so they’re really frustrated,” the source told TheDC.

The Budget Control Act has forced sequestration cuts on the department and its agencies. ICE was pinched for money in 2013, and officials from the agency admitted to releasing more than 2,200 illegal immigrants in 2013 as a result of “budgetary reasons.”

Then-ICE Director John Morton told the House Homeland Security Subcommittee, “I take full responsibility for the agency, for the management of our beds,” he said. “And, as I have said and the secretary has said, you know, I regret that there is a level of surprise and questions about what we did.”

One source on the hill told TheDC, “ICE has been getting decimated. All the money goes to border patrol because they can’t deport people, while ICE – who actually are in charge of deportations – are handcuffed, silenced and stifled. This is how we get flooded with illegal immigrants: catch-and-release.”

The Daily Caller placed several inquiries about ICE’s budget to DHS, and the department did not respond in a timely manner.

India-Pakistan
All you need to know about militant Naved aka Usman, who was captured in Udhampur
That would be India. It must already be a couple of days after the Pakistanis fired wildly over the border to cover the latest infiltration.
[FIRSTPOST] A krazed killer involved in an ambush on a BSF convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Wednesday has been captured, authorities said. Initially there was confusion over the name of the krazed killer. The terrorist told the Sherlocks that his name was Mohammed Naved. But in a video shot minutes after he was handed over to the police, he called himself "Usman." Earlier TV channels reported that his name is Qasim Khan.

According to initial reports, Usman aka Naved was caught with a AK-47 rifle. The attacker came from Faisalabad
...formerly known as Lyallpur, the third largest metropolis in Pakistain, the second largest in Punjab after Lahore. It is named after some Arab because the Paks didn't have anybody notable of their own to name it after...
, Pakistain last week, intelligence sources said. A top police officer said that preliminary questioning has revealed that Usman, aged 16-18 years, is from Faisalabad in Pakistain and he told police that he had recently infiltrated from across the border to carry out terror attacks here.

Security forces claim he is a Lashkar-e-Taiba

operative.

"Its fun doing this," Naved, the suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba krazed killer from Pakistain who was caught alive after the attack on the BSF convoy that killed two constables, revealed casually to cameras.

Naved, who says he hails from Faisalabad in Pakistain, claimed before the media that he entered the Jammu region 12 days ago along with a fellow terrorist identified as Momin Khan. Khan was killed in retaliatory fire by BSF.

This is the first suspected Pak terrorist to be captured alive after Ajmal Kasab, who was nabbed during the dreaded terror attack in Mumbai in 2008.

"I came to kill Hindus," said Naved, dressed in a dark blue shirt and brown trousers, with a relaxed demeanour. He also alleged that Kashmiris were being killed all the time.

"It has been 12 days since I came here. We walked all days in the jungle," he said as villagers clicked pictures with the prize catch.

"I am from Pakistain and my partner was killed in the firing but I escaped. Had I been killed, it would have been Allah's doing. There is fun in doing this," Naved said.
Opium and marijuana grow wild in that part of the world. Perhaps he chewed on some to stay hunger pangs after he lost his supplies in the affray.
Initially, he said that he was in his early 20s but later claimed that he was only 16. He had been changing his statements. First he identified himself as Kasim and later as Usman.

Two gunnies had attacked a Border Security Force convoy on Wednesday morning killing two troopers and injuring 11. One of the attackers was rubbed out in retaliatory fire. The other attacker then fled to a nearby village where they took three people hostage in a school.

The krazed killer was locked away
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
after an operation was launched by the army and the police, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary said.

The freed hostages later said to ANI they overpowered the krazed killer and brought him down.

"As I came out of my house after hearing gun shot, this krazed killer came and asked me to come with him. He had already taken three-four people along," Rakesh Kumar, a youth who was taken hostage said.

"We were taken at gunpoint to the school. He asked us to show us the route to escape from the area," another hostage, Vikramjeet said.

The krazed killer threatened them that if they didn't show him the route, he would kill their family, he said, adding that they also offered him some food.

While the other three, Desraj, Subash Sharma and Jeeven, managed to escape, Vikramjeet and Rakesh fought with the krazed killer and caught him after a tough struggle.

"I caught his neck and he (Rakesh) caught hold of the gun. He (the krazed killer) fired a few round but we escaped narrowly and caught him," Vikramjeet said.

J&K govt sanctions prosecution of Pakistani terrorist
[ZEENEWS.INDIA] Jammu and Kashmire government has sanctioned prosecution of captured Pak terrorist Mohammed Naved for waging war against the state.

The terrorist was captured alive yesterday after the Udhampur attack in which two heavily-armed snuffies believed to be from Pakistain ambushed a convoy of BSF personnel and opened fire.

Two constables and a bully boy were killed while another terrorist was caught alive in a manner identical to the nabbing of 26/11 attacker Ajmal Kasab.

Meanwhile,

the National Investigation Agency (NIA) today took over the case.

They said that Naved had undergone training in two different modules with Lashker-e-Taiba terror group, as per PTI.

A team of NIA, a central probe agency created after the 2008 Mumbai attack, headed by Inspector General Sanjeev Kumar Singh, has been camping in Jammu since yesterday and has visited the site of the encounter, official sources said.

A case under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Arms Act and various sections of Indian Penal Code has been registered against the locked away

Lashker-e-Taiba terrorist Mohammed Naved Yakub, who has claimed that he hailed from Faislabad in Pakistain.

His accomplice, identified by him as Noman alias Momin, was killed in retaliatory firing by BSF.

Naved, who remained composed during the night-long interrogation, told sleuths that he had undergone two training modules--'Daur-e-Aam' and 'Daura-e-Khas' - of Lashker-e-Taiba terror group.

While the first module teaches the terror cadre of physical fitness, mountaineering and using of small arms, in the second they are trained in assault rifles and manufacture of small explosives.

In his early 20s, Naved disclosed that he had entered into India through Baramulla in North Kashmire area by cutting the fencing. During interrogation, he said that he had stayed at Tangmarg and Baba Reshi and shifted their base to Awantipura-Pulwama in South Kashmire where he remained inside a cave located on a hill side.

The group split into two and he along with Noman moved to Kulgam in South Kashmire from where they boarded a truck to Jammu yesterday. They got down at Udhampur after staying at Patnitop for night.

Naved will be taken to all the places in which he had claimed to have stayed after infiltrating from across the border.

India should provide proof of any Pakistani involved in terrorism: FO
Will this do?
[DAWN] Pakistain said on Thursday that India should provide proof of any Pak found involved in terrorist activity on Indian soil, according to a statement issued by Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Syed Qazi Khalilullah.

This followed an Indian claim that Usman Faisal, a Death Eater captured on Wednesday after a deadly attack on a military convoy in the Kashmire region, was a Pak.

Qazi Khalilullah said that the Indian claim was baseless and further said, "We have repeatedly asked India to refrain from accusations."

Responding to a question about the Dawn op-ed penned by Tariq Khosa on the Mumbai attack trial, the spokesperson said that he could not comment on the article but added that more information is awaited from India in this regard.

I am the unfortunate father of Udhampur attacker, says Pakistan-based man
[ZEENEWS.INDIA] Ripping apart Islamabad's lie once again, a Pakistain-based man has claimed that the captured myrmidon in Udhampur, the second such since Ajmal Kasab was nabbed during the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, is his son.

A daily on Thursday reported to have talked to the attacker's father.

Notably, Pakistain has asked New Delhi to provide proof of any Pak found involved in terrorist activity on Indian soil.

In the meantime, Hindustan Times have spoken to a Pakistain-based man who claimed to be the "unfortunate father" of the myrmidon, whose name is said to be Mohammad Naved alias Usman Khan.

"I'll be killed. The Lashkar is after us and the fauj is after us," Mohammad Yakub told the daily over phone.

"You are calling from India. We'll be killed. I am the unfortunate father," said Yakub.

Yakub added, "The Lashkar is after us. They probably wanted him dead and not caught alive. Please spare him."

Usman was captured on Wednesday shortly after he and a fellow myrmidon rubbed out two Border Security Force troopers on the highway near Samruli, about 10 km from Udhampur town. The other terrorist was killed in the firing, but Usman was nabbed alive.

Upon arrest, Naved told interrogators that he came from Pakistain to "kill Hindus" and that "it's fun doing this".

He has also told his interrogators that he belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba

Udhampur terror attack: NIA takes over probe, Pakistani terrorist quizzed
[ZEENEWS.INDIA] In the Udhampur attack, two heavily-armed turbans believed to be from Pakistain ambushed a convoy of BSF personnel and opened fire in which two constables and a murderous Moslem were killed while another terrorist was caught alive in a manner identical to the nabbing of 26/11 attacker Ajmal Kasab.

LeT terrorist Mohammed Naved Yakub, who has claimed that he hailed from Faislabad in Pakistain.

India condemns attack:

On the other hand, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh told Parliament today, "We strongly condemn the attack and the persistent attempts by turbans from across the border to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmire", as per IANS.

Rajnath Singh added that government was committed to combating terrorism with a strong resolve.

India is expected to take up strongly with Islamabad the terror attacks at Udhampur and earlier in Gurdaspur in Punjab, which left seven people dead, when the National Security Advisers of India and Pakistain meet as scheduled later this month.

Pakistain in denial mode

Meanwhile,
...back at the wrecked scow, a single surviver held tightly to the smashed prow...
Pakistain was today in denial mode over assertions from India that the terrorist caught alive in Udhampur yesterday was a Pak national and asked New Delhi not to make "accusations" without proof.

Foreign Office Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah said at his weekly briefing that he had seen media reports that "a person has been arrested in India and is being projected as Pakistain national".

"I will not comment on media reports. We expect Indian authorities to share necessary information about him with us to enable verification of his national status," Khalilullah said reacting to statements from India on the Pak origins of Mohammed Naved Yakub.

"We have said many times that making immediate accusations on Pakistain is not correct. These things should be based on facts. We expect that whenever Pakistain is being accused of something, it shall be accompanied by concrete evidence," he added.

Pakistan moves UNMOGIP over unprovoked Indian firing along LoC
[DAWN] Pakistain Army on Thursday lodged a strong protest with the United Nations

Military Observer Group in India and Pakistain (UNMOGIP) over unprovoked firing by Indian troops on Aug. 4 along the working boundary at Sialkot's Pukhlian sector.

"UNMOGIP has been asked to conduct investigation of unprovoked Indian firing and shelling", an Inter-Services Public Relations statement said.

It said Indian forces deliberately targeted civilians with heavy weapons on Tuesday, which resulted in three dead and 22 injured.

Three people, a minor among them, had died in heavy mortar shelling by India in Bajwat and Pukhlian sectors of the Sialkot working boundary on Tuesday.

District Coordination Officer Dr Asif Tufail had confirmed the killings and said 22 other people, including eight women and six children, were maimed on Aug. 4 from Indian firing. Besides, 65 domestic animals also died in the shelling.

Taliban Hold Open Meetings in Pakistan to Discuss Leadership
[Tolo News] Senior members of the Taliban are reportedly holding open meetings in Pakistan to discuss the disputed appointment of Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour as the group's new chief in the wake Mullah Omar's death.
What fun! Can we send a delegate, too? I'm certain that a few of us have opinions...
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, while confirming Mullah Omar's death, in a statement earlier this month announced that Mullah Mansour would be the successor to the late supreme leader and original founder of the group. The Afghan government has maintained Omar died two years ago at a hospital in Pakistan's port city of Karachi.

Several top Taliban leaders have expressed strong opposition to Mansour's leadership, calling him a puppet of Pakistan's Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI).

Sources within the Afghan government told TOLOnews on condition of anonymity on Thursday that scores of Taliban members - including both those who agree and disagree with Mansour's appointment - met with clerics in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan on Wednesday to resolve the dispute over Omar's successor.

The names of those within the Taliban who are said to endorse Mansour's leadership are as follows: Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, Abdul Hassan Akhund, Mohammad Rassoul Akhund, Abdul Latif, Mansour Ibrahim Sadar, Abdul Rashid Shinwari, Abbas Akhund, Mohammad Essa Akhund, Mawlavi Abdul Rahim, Mawlavi Abdul Nabi, Mawlavi Mohammad Reza, Mawlavi Mohammad Nadim, Shahabuddin Dilawar, Mawlavi Jan Mohammad, Qazi Din Mohammad, Mawlavi Nek Mohammad and Mohammad Zahir Ahmadzai.

Meanwhile, the list of those thought to disagree with Mansour's appointment is also extensive: Mohammad Yaqoub (Mullah Omar's eldest son), Abdul Manan (Mullah Omar's brother), Abdul Raziq Akhund, Abdul Mobin Akhund, Mohammad Hassan Rahmani, Abdul Raouf Akhund, Abdul Bari Akhund, Abdul Rahman Zahid, Anwar-ul-Haq Mujahid, Mansour Dadullah, Mawlavi Hamza, Abdul Manan Niazi, Abdul Qayoum Zakir, Zabihullah, Mawlavi Shireen, Mohammad Akhtar Mohammadzai, Gull Pacha Amiri and Janan Haq Parast.

Some political analysts, meanwhile, have said the Pakistani government is seeking to exploit divisions within the Taliban's ranks.

"It has always been said that Pakistan is using the Taliban leaders as a tool, and now this issue, once again, has been raised after the Taliban overtly began their activities and movement in Pakistan," political commentator Javed Kohistani said.

Other commentators believe the recent Taliban gathering in Pakistan is evidence of Pakistani clerics' attempt to stop the group from splintering.

"There were the same issues during Jihad; when the Mujahideen divided into many groups, Pakistan brought all of them to one table," National Solidarity Movement leader Sayed Ishaq Gilani told TOLOnews. "Now the same thing is happening to the Taliban; Pakistani clerics are trying to use the group as a tool."

Indian authorities interrogate 'Pakistani' militant
[NATION.PK] Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said the Pak terrorist caught in Jammu and Kashmire is being questioned to find out more about his plans to strike terror in the country.

"The terrorist caught in Udhampur yesterday (Wednesday) has been brought to Jammu and is being questioned," Rajnath Singh told parliament.

"Hopefully, we will get to know more about his plans to carry out terror attacks," he said.

He condemned the terror attack on a Border Security Force (BSF) convoy in Udhampur district and said the government was planning to give gallantry awards to the troopers killed in the attack.

The troopers "from the BSF, Jammu and Kashmire Police and the CRPF played a crucial role... The government will provide ex-gratia and jobs to the family members of those killed," he said.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Kerry: US, Russia Agree on UN Syria Chemical Arms Resolution
[ALMANAR.LB] US Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
said Thursday he had reached an agreement with his Russian counterpart that could see the UN set up a panel to identify those behind deadly chlorine gas attacks in Syria.

"We also talked about the UN resolution and indeed I believe reached an agreement that should try to see that resolution voted shortly, which would create a process of accountability which has been missing," Kerry said a day after talks with Russia's Sergei Lavrov in Malaysia.

Moallem Arrives in Muscat: First Visit to Gulf Country since Beginning of Syria
[ALMANAR.LB] The Syrian Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem held on Thursday talks with his Omani counterpart Yusuf bin Alawi on the crisis in Syria.

Al-Moallem's visit was upon the invitation of Alawi, who, along with bigwigs at the Omani Foreign Ministry, received al-Moallem and the delegation accompanying him upon their arrival in Muscat in the morning.

The talks, which were held at the Omani Foreign Ministry's building, discussed in depth the details of the crisis in Syria and the regional and international roles involved in it, in addition to touching upon the bilateral relations.

The views of both sides converged that time has come for unifying constructive efforts to put an end to the crisis in Syria on the basis of fulfilling the aspirations of the Syrian people in combating terrorism, establishing security and stability and maintaining Syria's illusory sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The two sides agreed to continue cooperation and coordination to realize the common goals of their countries' peoples and leaderships.

Minister al-Moallem conveyed during the meeting Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
's greetings to the Sultan of Oman Qaboos and his wishes for continued success.

Al-Moallem went to Muscat after he ended a visit to Tehran, where he held talks with senior Iranian officials and discussed with them the latest developments in Syria and the issue of combating terrorism.
