Egypt to try cop for killing female protester
[ARABNEWS] Egypt's chief prosecutor on Tuesday referred a police officer to trial for the killing of a female protester during a peaceful demonstration nearly two months earlier in a widely documented shooting.

The death of 32-year old Shaimaa El-Sabbagh, a mother of a young boy, in January on the eve of the 2011 uprising's anniversary caused an intense public outcry. Despite widely circulated footage that showed two masked, black-clad coppers pointing their rifles in El-Sabbagh's direction as gunshots rang out and a voice commanded "fire," authorities initially denied that police had any involvement in her death.

Almost all of the over 100 coppers tried for killing protesters during Egypt's 2011 revolution were acquitted, with judges citing shoddy investigation or lax evidence in cases largely probed by the police themselves.

The uproar over El-Sabbagh's death prompted Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi
...former general under Mubarak, then Defense Minister. Egypt overthrew Mubarak and endured a year of ham-fisted Moslem BrĂĽderbund rule so al-Sissi could run for President-for-Life...
to urge an investigation but he hinted that individual mistakes should not undermine public confidence in the police.
That's only true if individual mistakes, and the individuals who commit them, are investigated and prosecuted appropriately. Otherwise yes indeed it will undermine public confidence, and for good reason. Despotic states never quite figure this out...
Chief prosecutor Hisham Barakat said in a statement that the investigation revealed El-Sabbagh died from birdshot fired toward her and other protesters by an officer ordered to disperse the protest. Barakat charged one police officer with involuntary manslaughter, punishable by up to seven years. No trial date has been set.

El-Sabbagh's family lawyer Mohammed Abdel-Aziz said authorities had denied him access to the investigation or the right to attend the interrogations.

Indonesia warns its nationals: stay away from Libya
[Libya Herald] The Indonesian government has become the latest to warn its nationals to avoid travel to Libya because of deteriorating security.

The Indonesian foreign ministry has encouraged Indonesians to contact the embassy in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
and to prepare for evacuation. It has said that they should be aware of their surrounding at all times and stay abreast of all developments.

Though it is not known how many Indonesians are working in Libya, it is not thought the number is large.

Europe
Turkey and EU drifting apart, says Independent Turkish Commission
[Hurriyet Daily News] Rather than drawing closer together, the EU and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
are drifting apart due to growing authoritarianism in the latter, stuttering growth, and a faltering Kurdish grinding of the peace processor, non-governmental organization the Independent Turkish Commission warned on March 17.

Turkey is no longer "the rising regional star" that it was during the first half of then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
's 12 years in office, stated the Commission, which is led by Martti Ahtisaari, a former president of Finland and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

"Today, Turkey faces myriad challenges: Growing authoritarianism, unimpressive growth, and a faltering Kurdish grinding of the peace processor," the Commission said in an open letter addressed to the Turkish government and the EU.

"With a 900-kilometer border with Syria, it is hosting nearly two million Syrian refugees and is vulnerable to attacks and infiltration by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
[of Iraq and the Levant, ISIL]. Tensions with both Iran and Israel have become deeply entrenched, and the country has become increasingly dependent on energy from a revanchist Russia," it stated.

"Turkey cannot confront these challenges alone," the Commission added, pointing to the fact that the EU accounts for almost 40 percent of Turkish trade, 70 percent of its foreign direct investment, and more than 50 percent of its tourism industry. "The country's economic ties with its southern neighbors have spiraled downward since the Arab Spring in 2011," it said.

Iran, Hezbollah Removed From Terror Threat Report As Obama Negotiates Nuclear Deal
[DailyCaller] President Barack Obama
If you like your coverage you can keep it...
's appointees have airbrushed Iran out of the terror section of the 2015 annual report on national security threats, just as he tries to negotiate a nuclear weapons deal with Iran's theocratic leaders.

The 2015 "Worldwide Threat Assessment of the U.S. Intelligence Community" excludes Iran and its network of jihadi groups who are motivated by Islam's Shia sect, from the report's terror section.

Instead, the assessment focuses entirely jihadis motivated by the Sunni sect of Islam, including those in al-Qaeda and ISIS, sometimes known as the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
"Sunni violent snuffies are gaining momentum and the number of Sunni violent Death Eater groups, members, and safe havens is greater than at any other point in history," the report admits.

That's a big shift from the 2014 report, when Iran's network of jihadis -- chiefly, the Hezbollah army in Leb -- got their own subsection.

Accused Boston bomber told friend about 'very strict' brother
[REUTERS] Accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev told a high school friend his older brother was "very strict" and might not like him because he was not Moslem, the friend testified on Tuesday.

Tsarnaev, 21, is charged with killing three people and injuring 264 with a pair of homemade pressure-cooker bombs at the race's crowded finish line on April 15, 2013, and shooting dead a university police officer three days later.

Stephen Silva, who federal prosecutors contend loaned Tsarnaev the gun used in the shooting, said he had long been friends with the defendant but had never met his 26-year-old brother, Tamerlan, who died following a shootout with police four days after the bombing.

The family members of Noman have come forward to claim the dead body of the dear departed. However,

Muhammad Saleem said his brother worked as a glass cutter and had nothing to do with church bombings in Lahore.

Mob lynching is 'worst kind of terrorism', says Nisar
[DAWN] Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan
...Currently the Interior Minister of Pakistain. He is the senior leader of the Pak Moslem League (N) and a close aide to Nawaz Uncle Fester Sharif. He is noted for his vocal anti-American railing in the National Assembly. However (comma) Khan told the U.S. ambassador that he was in fact pro-American but he and the PML-N would have to be critical of US actions in order to remain publicly credible. Khan cited his wife and children's US citizenship as proof, which means he's lying to one side or the other and probably both. He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that. since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture...
has reiterated his strong condemnation of the mob that brutally killed two men in the aftermath of the deadly church bombings in Lahore's Youhanabad area, saying that the lynching witnessed on Sunday is "the worst form of terrorism".

Nisar, speaking in the National Assembly on Tuesday, invoked the example of earlier attacks on imambargahs and mosques, and said that a violent mob reaction like that in Youhanabad was not witnessed in those incidents.

SC turns down Saulat Mirza appeal against return of second review petition
[DAWN] The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a petition filed by death row convict Saulat Mirza against the return of the second review plea.

Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk presided over an in-chamber hearing of an appeal against a decision of the Supreme Court office to return the second review petition by hit man Saulat Mirza who is to be hanged at Machh Jail in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
.

The court office returned the petition, filed by Advocate Sardar Latif Khosa on Jan 6 on behalf of Saulat Mirza, on the grounds that a three-judge SC bench headed by Justice Syed Deedar Hussain Shah had already dismissed the earlier review petition on March 9.

Advocate Sardar Latif Khosa then submitted a petition challenging the office's decision to return the petition however the court rejected the petition, reinforcing the office's objections.

Israel's Netanyahu declares victory in tight race
[APNEWS.MYWAY] Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared victory after a tight national election appeared to give him the upper hand in forming the country's next coalition government.

In a statement released on Twitter, Netanyahu says that "against all odds" his Likud party and the nationalist camp secured a "great victory."

Initial exit polls showed Netanyahu's Likud Party deadlocked with the center-left Zionist Union.

But the results indicated that Netanyahu will have an easier time cobbling together a majority coalition with hard-line and religious allies. Netanyahu said he had already begun to call potential partners.
Update at 3:30 Tel Aviv Time:
With 75 percent of precincts reporting before dawn on Wednesday

Likud 31 seats
Zionist Union 24 seats
Yesh Atid 11 seats
Joint Arab List 11 seats
Kulanu 9 seats
Bayit Yehudi 8 seats
Shas 8 seats
Yisrael Beytenu 7 seats

I've heard that war is Hell, especially for women, children, small, fuzzy things, and the human shields of the evil ones. It seems this is herewith once again demonstrated.
A series of Arclight airstrikes between November 11-29 "led to the deaths of up to 115 civilians, among them 14 children," the London-based international watchdog said in the report, titled "Al-Raqqa under attack: Syrian air force strikes against civilians."
