I'm reading reports from folks who do population counts all over the world. They are saying that, based on multiple known data factors within China, the current Chinese population might only be 900M (or even less) instead of the 1.4B the CCP publishes.
Number caskets and burial plots purchased over the last 5 years, number of active cellphones, rapid decline in personal taxes received, etc.
They lost a lot more folks during covid than they're letting on, young people aren't having children AND the one-child policies really bit them hard.

I think a lot of the thinking about large scale deaths from covid in China are probably misinformed; remember, a lot of the deaths in the US were self inflicted: remdesivir, rationing of antibiotics, and secondary infections probably accounted for more than half the deaths attributed to covid here.
All China had to do to not get a lot of deaths was treat it like viral pneumonia was treated in the west in 2018.
