[BBC] Anyone peering into the 125 metre (410ft) deep pit will wonder what secrets and stories lie beneath.
Now, scientists have discovered the natural oddity provides evidence of a concerning trend.
A layered sediment core extracted from the bottom of the hole provides a 5,700-year storm archive – and it shows the weather is only getting worse.
In 2022, researchers from Goethe University Frankfurt transported a drilling platform over the open sea to the Blue Hole, and then proceeded to extract a 30-metre sediment core from the underwater cave.
Now, analysis reveals the layered sediment has served as an archive for extreme weather events for thousands of years, including tropical storms and hurricanes.
Dr Dominik Schmitt, a researcher in the Biosedimentology Research Group and the study's lead author, said: 'Due to the unique environmental conditions – including oxygen-free bottom water and several stratified water layers – fine marine sediments could settle largely undisturbed in the Great Blue Hole.'
The sediment core looks a bit like tree rings, with annual layers alternating in colour between grey-green and light green.
Over the years, storm waves and storm surges have transported coarse particles from the nearby atoll reef into the Hole, forming distinct layers at the bottom.
These storm deposits stand out from the fair-weather grey-green sediments in terms of grain size, composition and colour, which ranges from beige to white.
The research team, which also included scientists from Cologne, Göttingen, Hamburg, and Bern, identified a total of 574 storm events over the past 5,700 years.
This provides a much longer snapshot of climate fluctuations and hurricane cycles than instrumental data and human records, which only date back around 175 years.
They discovered that the distribution of storm event layers in the sediment core show the frequency of tropical storms and hurricanes in the southwestern Caribbean has steadily increased over the past 6,000 years.
Higher sea-surface temperatures were also linked to increased storm activity, they found.
Over the past six millennia, between four and 16 tropical storms and hurricanes passed over the Great Blue Hole per 100 years.
However, the nine storm layers from the past 20 years indicate that extreme weather events will be significantly more frequent in this region in the 21st century, the researchers warned.

'Our results suggest that some 45 tropical storms and hurricanes could pass over this region in our century alone,' Professor Eberhard Gischler, who also worked on the study, said.

'A 21st-century extrapolation suggests an unprecedented increase in tropical cyclone frequency, attributable to the Industrial Age warming.'

The magnitude of the selling across equities on Thursday was in line with the largest on record.

The broader market downturn, particularly in technology and high-end consumer goods sectors, has worsened the situation.

[ColonelCassad] The FBI Has Been Hiding Information About Hunter Biden's Laptop for Years New data from an internal FBI chat room shows that it has issued an outright gag order on discussing the New York Post's October 14, 2020, investigation into the laptop of Hunter Biden, the former US president's son. The House Judiciary Committee reported this on April 2.
“An internal FBI chat log recently obtained by the committee shows that the FBI intentionally withheld information about its possession of Hunter Biden’s laptop and an ongoing criminal investigation into Biden family corruption [with the note] ‘Don’t discuss the Biden matter,’” the committee said in a statement, along with a screenshot of the chat.
FBI officials were instructed not to discuss the Biden matter just after the New York Post story broke five years ago . But before that order, a group of agents including Laura Demlow, Bradley Benavidez and James Dennehy discussed the story after it was mentioned in The Washington Post.
“You guys are monitoring the laptop coverage, right?” Demlow wrote. Both Benavidez and Dennehy responded that they were. Later, agents whose names were not released texted, “The correct answer is that no one on duty is authorized to comment on the article in the NY Post" and "No one is authorized to comment." This was reported by ZeroHedge.
A grand scandal around Biden's son erupted in 2019, when he forgot his laptop at a repair shop. After three months of downtime, the gadget became the property of a repairman, who found a large number of photos of Joe Biden on the hard drive and, without thinking twice, contacted the FBI.
According to the data from the laptop, Hunter did not pay millions in taxes, but paid for the services of prostitutes and dabbled in drugs. But in addition to the intimate details of his son's life, which attracted public attention, the laptop revealed important secrets of his father. [PJMedia] We are all familiar with the many attempted coups against President Trump by a Deep State comprising babus bureaucrats, media, and corrupt judges more attached to their political ideology than to justice. Part of what led to these attempts at removing President Trump, including liquidation attempts, were the "demonstrations": BLM, trans-ideology, and any leftist cause that could be used to coalesce the left and create "demonstrations" against the president. Demonstrations that were then used by the media to create a propaganda myth that the nation was against him; and then the propaganda led to more well-funded demonstrations, and the spiral increased to a chaotic frenzy.
Israel mirrors the United States in this dangerous alliance of a Deep State comprising media, judges, and politicians. And again, just like in the United States, this alliance is joined by well-financed "activists" and demonstrators.
In July of 2023, I was in Israel with my family and saw many of these "demonstrations" against Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. These were all well-organized, choreographed, well-produced, and well-financed events, complete with expensive sound systems, food and drinks, and large flags and umbrellas provided to everyone. They looked like BLM 2.0. Moreover, they would begin and end exactly on time, as if on a perfect schedule. As a graduate of UC Berkeley, I have been part of many organic demonstrations, and not one ever started exactly at 10:00 p.m. and ended exactly at 10:30 p.m. on the dot. Tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars of swag were given out to these "activists" in the form of large flags ($40-50 a piece) and umbrellas ($20-40 per umbrella), and complete meals were provided. Nearly all of the demonstrators I spoke with did not live in Israel, but had come over from the United States specifically for the purpose of protesting.

Where did the money come for this? It is still unclear, but we do know that 230 million dollars was given to "pro-Paleostinian causes" last year by USAID. A Senate investigation found that in 2015, the Obama Administration sent over $350,000 of taxpayer money to support the election of Netanyahu's opponent.
That was a US State Department spend, as I recall, along with the donation of Democratic Party consultants to help organize the V15 campaign.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Netanyahu, who has over 40 years of experience with terrorism and hostage issues, especially with Islamic bully boys, has worked every hour to try and simultaneously redeem the hostages and protect the nation — two goals that from the beginning have probably been mutually exclusive. Hamas only responds to violence, and kidnapped the hostages originally with the intent of using them as leverage chips against Israel. But Netanyahu has been trying to rescue every hostage possible in any way possible, while still preserving the safety of Israel. The vast majority of Israeli citizens agree with what he has done, although that certainly is not what the mainstream media in Israel or the United States portrays.
Both in Israel and America, headlines talk about Israel being close to a civil war. The media claims that thousands of people are demonstrating to stop any military action against Hamas, and to do anything necessary to redeem the hostages, even though Hamas has broken every hostage deal. But that portrayal is only part of a picture, and certainly not the whole truth of what is happening in Israel.
Judaism values every individual soul, and has always been committed to trying to get each hostage home to their family. Every family that has someone who is still being held in captivity is praying for their release, and is willing to do anything in order to achieve that. But the majority of Israelis recognize that they are unlikely to see many more living hostages released, and every Israeli is aware that over 800 IDF soldiers have already died in this war. Netanyahu has been trying to walk a razor's edge in getting as many hostages back as possible while still keeping Israel safe. With Trump’s support, that is now much easier as both nations are allied against Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. Ronen Bar, head of the Israeli internal security force Shin Bet, is recognized as someone who has always been against Netanyahu, and who is at least partially personally responsible for the failure in Israeli security to prevent the tragedies of October 7. Netanyahu and the Israeli cabinet voted unanimously on March 21 to remove Bar as the head of the agency. But the Deep State is again attempting to use this as a weapon against Netanyahu. The majority of Israelis have wanted Bar removed for a while, but the media makes claims that it is illegal, even though the minister and cabinet all voted for it. Some of the High Court judges are making media appearances and claiming that only they have the right to judge this head of security. These High Court judges are attempting to not only hold off Bar’s dismissal, but to prevent a new head from being appointed... even though Israel is in the midst of war. Newspapers in both America and Israel are claiming that thousands of people are organically demonstrating against Netanyahu because of the firing of Bar, and that a civil war is brewing.

[PJMedia] Thanks to the mainstream media in the United States, most Americans believe that Israeli politics are simple; that Israelis are about to have a civil war over hostages and what should be done with Hamas ..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,... ; that most Israelis cannot stand Benjamin Netanyahu; and that Netanyahu is a corrupt leader who has betrayed his people for political opportunism.
Nothing could be further from the actual truth on all of these points.
Before going into the details of each of these issues, it is important to remember where these reports are coming from-- namely, the same "news" outlets that said Hunter Biden’s computer was fake, the Russian collusion propaganda was real, and that Donald Trump ...They hit him with slander, they impeached him twice. Nancy Pelosi tore up his State of the Union address on national TV. They stole an election and put his adherents in jail. They vilified him. They couldn't crucify him, so they shot him. Still, they can't keep him down... is a fascist ...anybody you disagree with, damn them... dictator who wants to be the king of America. The exact same people who made those fallacious claims domestically in the United States are making the same type of claims about Israel... and with the same agenda.
The "deep state" in America is mirrored in Israel, where there is a partnership between a leftist media and leftist corrupt leaders who have for years been attempting to take over the politics of the Holy Land. In the same way that we have seen this Deep State attack President Trump, the same has been happening for years against Netanyahu, and for the same reasons: both men truly want what is best for their respective countries; and both men are not willing to succumb to Deep State alliances of media, babus bureaucrats, and corrupt leftists.
For Trump's entire first presidency, we saw an attempted coup to remove him from office that utilized everything from false charges and ridiculous impeachments, to propaganda put out by media outlets, to staged riots and well-funded demonstrations. Looking back, most Americans have recognized the corruption that was involved in these attempts, and that there really was a coordinated effort to remove him from office by any means possible.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has been and is experiencing the same thing. And in the same way that the Deep State of America was exposed and, as a result, weakened, the same exposing must take place of the Israeli Deep State.
It is simplest to start with understanding the man, and why he is hated by his opposition. Benjamin Netanyahu, who has served on and off as prime minister for over 17 years starting in 1996, has dedicated his life to serving Israel. Having first enlisted in 1967 as part of the IDF special forces unit, Sayeret Matkal, he came to the U.S. for college. He earned multiple degrees from both MIT and Harvard; reenlisted in the IDF each time there was a conflict or war; and always strove to honor the memory of his brother and best friend Yonaton, who died rescuing the hostages in the raid on Entebbe, in which more than 100 hostages were rescued in 1976.
By 1978, he had returned to Israel and founded the Jonathan Netanyahu Anti-Terror Institute. He started to develop political relationships and became involved in Israeli politics, becoming Israel's ambassador to the United Nations ...where theory meets practice and practice loses... from 1984 to 1989. Netanyahu became a member of the Knesset in 1988, became leader of the Likud party, and first became prime minister in 1996.
From 1967 onwards, this man dedicated his life to the defense of Israel, and specifically since 1978, to fighting terrorism. His political beliefs have always been reflective of the man himself. Willard Mitt Romney, aka Pierre Delecto ...former governor of Massachussetts, the Publican nominee for president in 2012, now Senator from Utah. He is the son of the former governor of Michigan, George Romney, who himself ran for president after saving American Motors from failure, though not permanently. Romney has a record as a successful businessman, heading Bain Capital, and he rescued the 2002 Winter Olympics from the midst of bribery and mismanagement scandals. He is currently a trans Republican and a member in good standing of the Never Trump Party, attempting to assume the mantle of the late John McCain...> , with whom he worked at Boston Consulting Group directly out of college, described Netanyahu almost 40 years ago as "a strong personality with a distinct point of view." Shaped by the tragic loss of his brother, Netanyahu has, for almost half a century, worked to fight evil and defend Israel.
As in the United States and President Trump's case, having the values of defending your nation and fighting evil do not necessarily make you popular with the "swamp."
Netanyahu was always a polarizing figure in Israel, but everything changed for him and for the world with the election of the self-appointed Messiah, Barack Obama How much damage could he do in four years?... Eight, then... , in 2008. Obama, whose actions demonstrated an anti-Semitism that liberal American Jews did not want to recognize at the time, expected Netanyahu to kowtow to his slightest whim. Obama was entirely ignorant of Middle Eastern history, and was committed to a Paleostinian state with 1967 borders and to being allied with Iran.
Netanyahu knew that these values were antithetical to the survival of the State of Israel. Despite Obama's attempts to control Netanyahu through either "the carrot or the stick", Netanyahu kept his commitment to his values, which enraged Obama. In his 2022 memoir, Netanyahu wrote that Obama "had given [Paleostinian Authority President] the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas ...aka Abu Mazen, a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial. While no Yasser Arafat, he has his own brand of evil, just a little more lowercase....> a secret commitment to establish a full-fledged Paleostinian state before he left office," something that Israel could not and should not ever accept.
The autobiography makes clear the hatred of Obama towards Netanyahu, and the many ways that Obama strove to both hurt Israel politically and Netanyahu personally. He speaks about Obama acting like a gangster with threats, and Obama's fury at Netanyahu not capitulating. When Netanyahu was invited by Congress to speak in 2015 without Obama's blessing, Obama's anger was increased exponentially yet again. And with his anger came actions against Netanyahu.
Similar to the case of President Trump, Obama successfully started using his relationships in the media and the bureaucracy to attack Netanyahu. The Deep State was already well entrenched in Obama's regime. We all now know how it used its partnership with mainstream media to attack Trump repeatedly. But it also attacked Netanyahu.
It wasn't just American media that attacked Netanyahu. As in the United States, there are many leftists involved in Israeli media. The Jerusalem Post is almost identical to the New York Times
...which still proudly claims Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize... in tone and agenda. As of this week, the editor of the Post, Zvika Klein, is even being questioned about Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi... ’s financial support of the paper and Klein’s suspected involvement with foreign agents. The Times of Israel, although it does have some conservative voices, is also essentially a mouthpiece for leftist values, as are many of the Israeli television channels. The Deep State in Israel, supported and aligned by the leftists here in the United States, has been attacking Netanyahu for years. And like in America, it is not just the media, but self-serving politicians who seek their own power rather than the good of their nation.
Yair Lapid, the leader of the opposition party, was briefly prime minister in between Netanyahu's terms. Like the stereotypical politician, he is concerned with his own power rather than the well-being of his country and people. Even when asked by his government not to travel to the United States, Lapid has taken every opportunity to meet with Obama, Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. The very model of probity.... , and others in the Democratic party leadership to garner their support and his hopeful election. But his efforts to weaken Netanyahu pale in comparison to the attempts by Israeli courts to destroy Netanyahu and legislate from the bench.
Unlike the United States, Israel does not have a formal written constitution. Although in its Declaration of Independence there is a commitment that there would be one, this was supplanted by a concept of Basic Laws in 1950 that eventually became the base of a written constitution. But because of a series of legal judgments by the Israeli High Court, that never happened.
Instead, the Israeli High Court actually holds a tremendous amount of the power, including the ability to change any laws passed by the Knesset. High Court judges are appointed positions and serve until they are 70 years old. Currently, three judges were appointed by Shimon Peres, who had been one of the officials in 2005 supporting Israel's entire withdrawal from Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. Because the judges of the High Court are not elected but have control over Israeli legislation, there have been many conflicts, especially during the terms of Netanyahu. Recently, in July of 2023, the Knesset passed legislation to prevent the High Court from overturning legislation that was passed by elected officials of the Knesset. This bill was passed to prevent the court from forcing Israel to act based upon the liberal interpretations of the Court, as opposed to the desires of the prime minister, Knesset, and the people themselves. Because of the very odd way the basic law is structured, the High Court was deciding for itself whether it should lose power or not. Unsurprisingly, the court voted 8-7 to overturn this legislation written by elected officials, but that would weaken their own personal power and prohibit them from continuing to legislate from the bench.
A Deep State that includes politicians, media, and the judicial branch: Israel mirrors the United States in this dangerous alliance. And again, just as in the United States, this alliance is joined by well-financed "activists" and demonstrators. In America, this has led to the many attempted coups to remove President Trump from office. In Israel, this same cabal is working in the same way to attempt a coup on Prime Minister Netanyahu.
