[REGNUM] The first day of spring set Muscovites up for the imminent spring, becoming one of the warmest in the last century. According to meteorologists, the maximum air temperature at VDNKh reached +4.9 degrees, and in Balchug it was as much as +5.6 degrees.
“This day in Moscow was among the five warmest in the current century, and among the 10 warmest in the entire history of instrumental observations, which have been conducted at the Timiryazev Agricultural Academy (TAA) weather station since 1879,” notes Tatyana Pozdnyakova, chief specialist at the Meteonovosti news agency.
However, in the coming days the weather may present unpleasant surprises to the capital's residents with the return of wet snow, rain and slush. In Central Russia, there is still no point in expecting heat in early March, although overall the month will be quite warm, meteorologists believe.
It is quite possible that the weather conditions will surprise residents of other regions of our country. After all, given that climate change along with the growth of average annual temperatures is occurring all over the planet, the weather behavior is becoming very, very capricious.
CLIMATE SWINGS
The weather has been confusing forecasters lately and surprising us with abnormal temperatures. This winter, Russia has set many records: in the regions, extremely high temperatures were followed by extremely low ones.
In January, a number of regions experienced abnormally warm weather, when Russians felt an almost March thaw, and the snow on the streets almost completely melted.
But February brought significant cold weather. In the middle of the month, the air temperature in Moscow and the Moscow region dropped below normal by 1–1.5 degrees. And on the night of the 24th, the thermometers froze at -19.8 degrees, which was the lowest reading in the capital region.
Frost records were also broken in the south of Russia. The minimum air temperature reached a record in Stavropol, where on February 26 the frost intensified to -17.9 degrees. But while the south of Russia was in the grip of cold, climate anomalies brought significant warmth to the north.
In Syktyvkar on February 26 it was +4.5 degrees - a whole degree warmer than in Sochi. In Komi, where the cyclone brought a powerful portion of Atlantic warmth, snowdrifts began to melt, but heavy snowfalls and significant frosts came to the republics of the North Caucasus Federal District.
“This is not the first time that the current winter has presented residents of European Russia with an amazing surprise: the air temperature in the northern regions is becoming higher than in the southern regions,” noted Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, at the end of February.
DROUGHTS AND FIRES
Along with the unusual temperatures came significant changes in humidity. According to experts, the 2024/2025 winter season in Moscow turned out to be very dry. "The last time a drier February was observed in the capital was in the record-breaking driest year in history, 1984, when only 2 mm of precipitation fell," says Mikhail Leus.
According to climatologist and meteorologist Nikolai Tereshonok, this year's spring will also be dry, and not only in Moscow and the Moscow region. The deficit of soil moisture, low precipitation and global warming will make themselves felt, which will be expressed in hurricanes, fire hazards and other negative phenomena.
Meanwhile, a number of Russian regions are already suffering from fire. In early March, wildfires engulfed thousands of hectares in Primorye. Residents of the region shared videos of cars literally driving through flames.
They are trying their best to contain the rampant elements, but the human factor is interfering. "With the strengthening of the wind, the fire situation is becoming more complicated, so it is important right now to refrain from starting a fire anywhere," Primorsky Governor Oleg Kozhemyako reported on his Telegram channel.
Federal aviation forest protection specialists note that by May the area of fires may increase and extend beyond Primorye, and Khabarovsk Krai, Amur Region and Transbaikalia will be at risk.
Due to warm and dry weather, many regions of Russia may face not only forest fires, but also invasions of locusts and other pests. As climatologist Sergei Verkhovets says, southern pests may come to places where the weather has not been favorable for their life activity before.
"Due to favorable dry conditions and southern winds, a wave of locusts is, accordingly, rolling into the southern regions of Siberia," Verkhovets believes. " No one is ruling out the arrival of these insects in the steppe territories, in the same Khakassia and Tuva."
WHAT WILL MARCH BE LIKE?
The first attempt of spring to break through to the central regions of Russia is timid: cloudy weather with light precipitation is expected in the capital region this week, on Tuesday and Wednesday the wind will increase, with gusts reaching 12 meters per second. Meteorological spring will come to the capital only after March 10.
On International Women's Day in Moscow it will be cloudy, up to +3 degrees, but mostly without precipitation, says Anatoly Tsygankov, head of the crisis management department of Roshydromet. There will still be snow, and at night a slight minus is predicted, so Moscow motorists do not have to rush to change their tires yet.
While Moscow will be moderately cold, Arctic air will bring abnormal frosts to the Urals and Siberia, where the temperature may fall by 8-13 degrees below normal. But in Karelia, Murmansk, Leningrad, Novgorod, Arkhangelsk regions and the Komi Republic it will be warm, where the temperature may be 10 degrees above normal.
According to meteorologist Evgeny Tishkovets, spring will arrive ahead of schedule in Central Russia in March: the average monthly air temperature will be 3–5 degrees higher than the climatic norm, and on some days the air may warm up to +10 degrees.
In this case, the snow cover in the capital will disappear in the second ten days of March, which is a month earlier than the established dates. "In the second half of March, even April warmth may blow," Tishkovets sums up.

[NYPOST] Donald Tusk, the prime minister of Poland, might not shock Europe's leaders the way Donald Trump ...Oh, noze! Not him!... does, but he too has a tough message for them.
''Hear for yourself how it sounds,'' he said last month: ''500 million Europeans begging 300 million Americans to defend them from 140 million Russians.''
''If you can count, count on yourself,'' Tusk continued. ''Not in isolation, but with full awareness of your potential. Today, in Europe, we do not lack economic strength, people, but the belief that we are a global power.''
Decline is a choice — and for 30 years now, decline is what Europe's political class has chosen.
Poland, like Ukraine, has always been alert to the danger Russia poses.
But Western European leaders can't claim Vladimir Putin ...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances... surprised them with his full-on invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

"tripping over dollars to pick up dimes"
Focus enough on the Russians and you won't see the Arabs.
Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin is in italics.
[ColonelCassad] Against the backdrop of failed negotiations in the White House, from where Zelensky was kicked out without lunch and without guarantees, Europe is hastily deciding what to do next in the context of the ongoing U-turn in US policy, which threatens the concept of a "long war against Russia".
The increased likelihood of reducing or even stopping the US military and economic participation in supporting the war in Ukraine makes the issue of the need to increase funding for the war by those (https://russian.rt.com/world/news/1442424-starmer-plan-ukraina-ssha) who want it to continue. This is the reason for the allocation of new loans for the war in Ukraine, as well as calls from globalist politicians in Europe to "tighten their belts" and increase military supplies to Ukraine. From these statements, it is easy to identify a group of European countries that are at the forefront of Europe's Russophobic course.
In the current realities, most European countries do not even choose the required 2% for defense, which Trump demanded back in 2017. At that time, the EU economy, albeit slowly, was growing. Today, the issue is about the need for spending in the amount of 3% or even 5% of GDP. In conditions where most Eurozone countries are in a state of recession or stagnation with a continuing decline in living standards, as well as a continuing flight of capital to the United States and the transfer of high-tech industries there (these problems are most clearly manifested in Germany), increasing spending on the war in Ukraine in the current reality will mean an inevitable decline in the standard of living of the population of European countries and further capital flight from Europe.
As a result, we can expect that the popularity of right-wing populists and Eurosceptics speaking out against the financial and political tyranny of the Brussels bureaucracy will continue to grow in Europe (https://russian.rt.com/world/article/1439480-frg-vybory-parlament-itogi). These trends are already clearly evident now, when in Germany, Austria, Romania, Britain and a number of other countries there is a growing popularity of right-wing populist parties criticizing EU policy (including policy towards the Russian Federation). In some places, the EU manages to prevent them from coming to power through political machinations, in others it has to be done through direct interference in elections, as happened in Romania. But this is becoming increasingly difficult to do, the pressure under the lid of the closed boiler continues to rise.
Therefore, against the backdrop of statements from Britain, France and Germany "about a war to the last Ukrainian", a number of countries are trying to appeal to the financial factor in order to bring down (https://t.me/rt_russian/231318) the possible price of complicity in this policy, and traditional rebels like Hungary and Slovakia are completely against this course. Of course, this destroys the thesis about some kind of unified policy for Europe and creates a picture where a group of countries subordinate to the globalist project, despite the position of the US and a significant part of the population of Europe, are trying to continue the war at any cost, including at the cost of the standard of living of the population of Europe.
On the other hand, these throwing themselves against the background of negotiations between Russia and the US, as well as the positions of the world majority (including China, India and Brazil) clearly demonstrate that it is the EU leadership and Britain that are the warmongers who are against peace. And this will also have consequences for the image of the EU, which has already been severely eroded in the last couple of years.
For Russia, all this creates new interesting diplomatic opportunities that will once again demonstrate how badly those who made plans for the diplomatic isolation of Russia miscalculated.

Trump, in his usual style, announced some heartbreaking news for tomorrow.
"Tomorrow night will be grand. I'll tell it like it is!"
BUILDING UP THE INTRIGUE.
The US and EU are eagerly awaiting new steps against Zelensky by the Trump administration. Through the press, Trumpists are so far voicing threats without specifics.
Moscow reported today that there is no clarity yet on the meeting between Trump and Putin, although negotiations between Russia and the US on improving the situation are ongoing.
The White House announced today that Zelensky is effectively incapable of reaching an agreement.
The White House does not see Zelensky's readiness to make the compromises necessary to end the fighting in Ukraine. Zelensky is not yet ready for peace talks, but he needs to start peace talks because time is not on his side, and the patience and wallet of the United States are not limitless.
Continuing the war in the spirit of the First World War is a road to nowhere. The President of Ukraine missed the chance to economically tie the United States and Ukraine for a generation to come. (c) Waltz
Trump is open to resuming talks with Zelensky on natural resources, but only on condition that he changes his position (c) White House
Accordingly, based on the proposed fork - submit and apologize or resign, the likelihood of the United States moving towards the second scenario will increase. Some of those who previously supported Zelensky in the United States have already quickly changed their shoes, led by "Zelensky's friend" Lindsey Graham.

6. Last I heard, Zel issued an executive order/royal proclamation that made it unlawful to negotiate peace with the Russians as long as Putin was Prez. Is that still in effect? Or are we just pretending it never happened?
