[IsraelTimes] Mordechai Brafman tells police he killed both men, though victims, a father and son, escaped with just a grazing and shoulder injury
A Jewish man in Miami Beach was arrested Sunday and charged with two counts of attempted murder, a day after opening fire at a car in which he said he saw “two Palestinians” inside.
However, police said that the victims were actually two Jewish Israelis visiting the US. The victims, Ari Rabey and his father, initially thought they were being targeted in an antisemitic attack..
Mordechai Brafman, 27, was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder after he shot at the car 17 times with a semiautomatic handgun on Saturday.
Police said there was no altercation between Brafman and the two victims before the shooting, which they described as unprovoked, reports said.
According to the arrest sheet, Brafman said that while he was driving his truck, “he saw two Palestinians and shot and killed both.”
Neither victim was killed. One was hit in the left shoulder, while the other was grazed by a bullet.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations called for Brafman to be charged with a hate crime, which would increase the severity of his offenses.
And so he should be.
Brafman, who is married, gave his occupation as plumber, reports said.
Most plumbers are pretty smart, I thought. Clearly it isn’t a requirement after all.
A year ago he was interviewed by local media after vandalism to a bagel store on Miami Beach that had displayed an Israeli flag, Hebrew media reported. At the time Brafman called for more unity and less conflict between people.
Ari Rabey, who was hit in the shoulder, later posted to his Facebook page about the shooting.
“Dear Jews,” he began and then explained that he was in Miami with his father.
“They tried to kill us for nationalistic reasons,” he wrote.
Rabey went on to explain that his father had been wearing a yarmulke on his head when they were driving in the car at the time of the shooting.
Surveillance video posted to social media showed the Rabeys seeking help from a building they drove to. One of the men can be seen with blood on his shoulder.
The two men later spoke to the local ABC 10 News station with Ari talking in Hebrew which was translated by his cousin. Ari said that Brafman pulled up alongside their car, rolled down his window, and opened fire. Even as they tried to drive away, Brafman kept firing, bullets hitting the back of their car with one round grazing his father’s ear as he drove the vehicle.
Ari at first thought his father had been shot in the head, he recalled.
“God gave me my life as a gift,” he said. He was treated at the hospital and later released.

Way to go, dude, you just validated millions of leftists' favorite fallacies regarding firearms, Jews, and "nazis." An anti-Second nut, or just a nut nut?
[Telegraph] She also made 121 parachute jumps to treat wounded men on the ground, who were astonished by ‘a girl, of all things, falling out of the sky’
Valérie André, who has died aged 102, was a brain surgeon, parachutist and pioneering helicopter pilot – the first woman to fly helicopter missions in combat zones, and also the first woman to become a general in the French army…
The rest is paywalled, but this much gives a sense of the lady.

I figured ventilateur meant that she ventilated the enemy with a machine gun so I was ready to post a link to the YouTube video of the Rolling Stones playing Ventilator Blues. But it turns out the word in French means fan, as in the helicopter's rotor blades. She must have been quite an impressive lady.

[CHANNELSTV] At least 18 people died during a stampede at a railway station in India's capital late Saturday when surging crowds scrambled to catch trains to the world's largest religious gathering, officials and reports said.
The Kumbh Mela attracts tens of millions of Hindu faithful every 12 years to the northern city of Prayagraj, and has a history of crowd-related disasters — including one last month, when at least 30 people died in another stampede at the holy confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers.
The rush at the train station in New Delhi appeared to break out Saturday as crowds struggled to board trains for the ongoing event, which will end on February 26.
''I can confirm 15 deaths at the hospital. They don't have any open injury. Most (likely died from) hypoxia or maybe some blunt injury but that would only be confirmed after an autopsy,'' Dr Ritu Saxena, deputy medical superintendent of Lok Nayak Hospital in New Delhi told AFP.

[CHANNELSTV] Mexico will take Google to court if it insists on changing the Gulf of Mexico's name to ''Gulf of America'' for Maps users in the United States, President Claudia Sheinbaum said Monday.
She said her government had written again to the US company arguing that President Donald Trump ...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons... 's executive order on the subject only applies to the part of the continental shelf belonging to the United States.
The letter informs Google that ''under no circumstances does Mexico accept the renaming of any geographic area that includes part of its national territory and that is under its jurisdiction,'' she said.
''We will wait for Google's response and, if not, we will proceed in court,'' Sheinbaum said at her daily news conference. American Court?
Sheinbaum had announced on Friday that her government was considering legal action against Google, saying: ''If necessary, we will file a civil suit.'' Don't you have bigger things to worry about, Puta?
Trump signed an executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico soon after his January 20 inauguration.
In response, Sheinbaum cheekily suggested calling the United States ''Mexican America,'' pointing to a map dating back to before 1848, when one-third of her country was seized by the United States.
Google, which is part of tech giant Alphabet, said that users of its Maps app in Mexico would continue to see the name ''Gulf of Mexico'' while those in third countries would see both names.
Apple has also renamed the Gulf of Mexico the ''Gulf of America'' for US users of its mapping application to comply with Trump's order.
I wonder if this is just a minor snit to show that Ms President is standing up for Mexico's illusory sovereignty and to provide cover for rolling over cooperating on dealing with the cartels.
It would be a shame if all those remittances dried up, eh?
[NYPOST] Three passengers on a Delta Air Lines flight including a child were critically injured when the plane crash-landed and flipped upside-down at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday.
Flight records identify the craft as Delta Flight 4819, which took off from Minneapolis about 11:47 a.m. The crash happened just before 3 p.m. Images show the mangled airliner smoldering on the snowy runway as dazed passengers scrambled out.
The belly-up jet looked badly damaged in photos and video circulating on social media, with one wing severely crumpled and the tail section partially sheared off.

"Damn it Jack! I said landing gear down, not up!"
#11
Red State has video from another perspective, and discusses the technicalities revealed:
On the surface, that was a hard landing, and the flight data recorder is no doubt going to tell a very interesting story. There didn't appear to be much of any flare (in layman's terms, when you lift the nose of the aircraft higher to soften the touchdown) as they got over the landing point. Some have noted the gear collapsed, which it absolutely did, but the plane rebounded upon touchdown beforehand. That points to the gear collapsing because the landing was so hard, not because of any mechanical defect beforehand.
The right wing then strikes and sheers off, causing the plane to begin to roll over on itself. That's how it ended up on its back when it came to rest. The fact that everyone survived and only 18 people were injured is a testament to how tough the CRJ design is. I don't know the exact Vref (calculated landing speed for final approach) they were flying, but at touchdown, with no real flare to bleed off speed, they were likely around 130 knots. That's a ton of energy to dissipate in a crash.

How did this happen? That's going to be something the NTSB dives into. Causes could range from pilot error over a variety of matters to some kind of unforeseen mechanical issue that didn't emerge until they were meant to flare the aircraft. Many have mentioned the wind, though that will likely still end up logged under pilot error. If you've ever followed NTSB reports, there aren't many things pilots are allowed to use as an excuse for crashing, and if wind shear is experienced, an immediate go-around is the required action. No go-around was even attempted in this case.
We'll see where this leads, though. The cause could end up being something none of us are thinking about, and the NTSB are magicians when it comes to figuring this stuff out. Given the breadth of data they'll have to work with, I don't think they'll have any issues with this case.

In the late 70s on a flight to Chicago my plane was diverted because of weather. As we were landing, I looked out the window and saw the wing tip slowly dip until it was about a foot off the ground. I am sure that Storm winds caused this. My plane landed safely, the one in this story might have had the same type of problem after the bounce.

I don't care if I never get on another airplane. I don't blame Trump. I just never liked air travel anyway.

Air travel was fun in 1964. After that, not so much.

Besoeker, in 1956 at the age of 10, I used to ride the train, alone, from Oregon to Chicago then to Missouri. Conductors of the Masonic Lodge got me there and back. I Learned about Butch and Sundance from a retired RR worker. Modern is not better!

A/c landing w/crosswind from the right side of it, do a bit of right wing down to counter would be normal. Structural analysis will reveal if the force of the rightgear hitting hard initiated the separation of the right wing, but won’t surprise me if that’s the case. The sparks from the right gear is likely the steel brake discs hitting the concrete after the tires blew/shredded and wheel damaged/fractured. Wheel and brake housing are aluminum so no
sparks from them.
Cabin interior looks amazingly intact, for all the impact forces; anticipated seats ripped from floor, overhead bins dislodged.
And everybody survived.
‘Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing: being able to reuse the airplane is a bonus.’

Playing hardball in China.
[Regnum] The former vice-chairman of the standing committee of the People's Congress of China's Jiangsu Province, who illegally enriched himself to the tune of more than 245 million yuan (about $34.3 million), has been sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve. This was reported on February 17 by China Central Television.
"The Intermediate People's Court of Xiangyang City, Hubei Province, sentenced Liu Handong to death with a two-year reprieve, lifelong deprivation of political rights, and confiscation of all personal property," the statement said. "You've got two years to die on your own before we expedite it"
The court found that from 1999 to 2023, the defendant abused his official position by assisting individuals and organizations in acquiring land, running a business, and evading taxes.
It is noted that Liu Handong admitted his guilt and repented, and the money and property he embezzled were recovered in full.
As reported by Regnum News Agency, on December 17, 2024, the death sentence imposed on Li Jianping, Secretary of the Working Committee of the Communist Party of China in the Hohhot Economic and Technological Development Zone, was carried out in China. He was sentenced to death in 2022. The final decision on the death penalty was made by the Supreme People's Court.
The investigation found that the official had misappropriated more than 1.43 billion yuan (more than $199 million), received 577 million yuan (more than $80 million) in bribes, and misused more than 1.05 billion yuan (more than $146 million). All of the executed man's personal property was confiscated, and he was allowed to meet with his relatives before his death.
[CHANNELSTV] Pope Francis
...Argentine liberation theologist, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio. He was elected pope in 2013. Rather than setting up shop in Avignon, where he belongs, the first Jesuit Pope chose to reside in the Domus Sanctae Marthae guesthouse instead of the papal apartments. That was to show how humble he is. He is big on climate change, against consumerism, and in favor of throwing a blanket over homosexual activity within the clergy. He's not real sure about the Resurrection, about Christ's divinity, and a few other things that would have gotten him burned at the stake a few hundred years ago, but he's hot for a certain South American Earth Mother Goddess... , hospitalised for bronchitis four days ago, faces a ''complex clinical picture'' that will require the 88-year-old to stay longer than originally expected, the Vatican said on Monday. "Y'see, he’s mostly dead, but he's not quite dead! There's a difference, y'know."
After initially cancelling events through Monday, the Vatican said the pope's weekly Wednesday audience would not go ahead either.
''The results of the tests carried out in recent days and today have demonstrated a polymicrobial infection of the respiratory tract that has led to a further change in treatment,'' it said in a statement. "Polymicrobial" means they found lotsa little germy things, but they don't know which one's connected to the runny nose, the inflamed throat, the fruity cough, or the occasional projectile diarrhea."
''All the tests carried out until now are indicative of a complex clinical picture that will require adequate hospitalisation.'' Getting old ain't easy. It takes a long time.
Vatican front man Matteo Bruni had earlier told news hounds that the pope was in ''good humour'', had rested well overnight, had eaten breakfast and read the newspapers. "Hey! Lookit dat! I ain't in the obituaries today!"
"At'sa pretty good, Pope. I'll get the cigars!"
A source in the pope's entourage had also insisted there was no alarm within the Vatican following his Friday admission to Rome's Gemelli hospital. "Hey, everybody! It'sa da Pope!"
"I ain't alarmed."
Francis was admitted after a ''very busy'' two weeks, during which ''he was weakened'', the source told AFP, but added: ''There is no alarmism.'' "Nuttin' to see here! Move along!"
A Vatican source told AFP the pope was receiving oxygen. "Alla, she'sa well! Bene, bene!"
Yet the news of the more complex situation raises fresh concerns about the Argentine pontiff, who has suffered increasing health issues in recent years. "Whaddya think, Doctor Quincy?"
"Hmmm. He ain't dead yet, but I have fresh concerns!" DIFFICULTY BREATHING
In the days before his admission, Francis had admitted to difficulty breathing and had asked aides several times to read his speeches aloud on his behalf. "Wottsa makin' you outta breath, Pope?"
"Breathing!"
At his weekly general audience last Wednesday, he said he ''cannot yet'' read his own speeches, adding with a smile: ''I hope that next time I can.'' "I'ma buy a tape recorder... [gasp!] [wheeze!]"
But he had continued taking meetings, including one with the prime minister of Slovakia on Friday morning, shortly before he headed to hospital. "Don't invade nobody!"
"I wasn't gonna!"
"Call me an ambulance, wouldja?"
Francis had part of one of his lungs removed as a young man and has been particularly susceptible to respiratory infections. Hmmm... A single point of failure. I'm surprised he made it to 88.
He pulled out of a Good Friday event last year after catching what the Vatican called a ''light flu'', but went on to lead Easter services as planned. "In nomine [hack!] [wheeze!] Patris [cough!] et Filii [snurf!!] et [choo!]..."
"Hey! We're Catholics! We gotta use local languages!"
"Whatsa national language of Vatican City?"
"Ummm... Latin?"
A year earlier, in March 2023, Francis was admitted to hospital for three nights with bronchitis, which was cured with antibiotics. Another bout of bronchitis caused him to cancel a December 2023 visit to Dubai to participate in the United Nations ...an idea whose time has gone... COP28 climate change conference. Boy, he sure missed a good 'un! I heard Al Gore partied until 9:30. The crazed sex poodle left with a woman who looked like she'd stepped from the pages of "Love Story."
The pope also underwent a hernia operation in June 2023 and in 2021 underwent surgery for a type of diverticulitis, an inflammation of pockets that develop in the lining of the intestine. "Wossa motta, Pope?
"Just my diverticulitis acting up, Cesare!"
"So you gonna be dead soon?"
He has been using a wheelchair since 2022 because of persistent knee pain and uses a cane during rare moments standing up. "Lucretia, get me my cane, please."
"Sure, Pope. You wanta a little drink too? Maybe some nice grappa?"
Francis has also fallen a couple of times in the past few months, bruising his forearm in January and sporting a large bruise on his right jaw in December, caused by toppling from his bed. "Wossa motta, Pope?"
"Lucretia pusha me outta bed!"
"I did not!"
"You go tella those bigga lies, you gonna go to hell, Lucretia!"
"Liar, liar, pants on fire! It was Cesare an you know it!"
"My pants onna fire? I ain't even wearin' them!"
