CIA Director Ratcliffe: ‘Day-One Thing' to Get to Bottom of Chinese ‘Origins of COVID,' Wuhan Lab Leak
[Breitbart] Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director John Ratcliffe told Breitbart News in his first interview after being confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Thursday that he intends to immediately get to the bottom of what the Agency knows about COVID leaking from a Wuhan lab in China.

Ratcliffe was confirmed by the Senate Thursday and then sworn in by Vice President JD Vance as the newest director of the CIA. He spoke with Breitbart News on Thursday for his first exclusive interview, in which he laid out how he intends to reform the Agency to return the world’s preeminent intelligence service to its core mission and depoliticize it. He also ripped previous CIA director John Brennan, who led the Agency during former President Barack Obama’s administration, as being singularly responsible for steering it in the wrong direction.

When it comes to confronting the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Ratcliffe did not hold back.

“I know from conversations with the president about where his priorities are and where he wants things to be as it concerns foreign threats to America’s national security posture, and it starts with China,” Ratcliffe said. “One of the things that I’ve talked about a lot is addressing the threat from China on a number of fronts, and that goes back to why a million Americans died and why the Central Intelligence Agency has been sitting on the sidelines for five years in not making an assessment about the origins of COVID. That’s a day-one thing for me. I’ve been on record as you know in saying I think our intelligence, our science, and our common sense all really dictates that the origins of COVID was a leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. But the CIA has not made that assessment or at least not made that assessment publicly. So I’m going to focus on that and look at the intelligence and make sure that the public is aware that the agency is going to get off the sidelines.”

The CIA has been mired in controversy on this front for the past several years as a whistleblower alleged that Agency analysts who were tasked with determining how COVID originated were bribed to say it did not come from the Wuhan lab. Everyone agrees the virus came from China, but there has been disagreement as to whether it came from the Wuhan Institute of Virology or whether it spread from animals to humans in nature, though the lab leak theory has regained prominence if not dominance in recent years after originally being attacked. The CIA has still not taken a formal position on this, but with Ratcliffe at the helm, that is quite clearly going to change and soon.

Ratcliffe also mentioned to Breitbart News a joint op-ed he wrote with former Deputy Director of National Intelligence Cliff Sims for the Wall Street Journal on exactly this matter in September 2023:

More broadly than just confronting China on COVID, Ratcliffe said his role will be arming President Donald Trump with the facts and intelligence he needs about China so that way when he negotiates and communicates with his counterpart in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump has all the information he needs to succeed.

“As President Trump deals with President Xi, he needs to be armed with the very best intelligence and to be able to talk about China in a way that if they caused or contributed to the death of a million Americans, the president needs to be armed with that,” Ratcliffe said. “But countering China and its aggression is something I started as DNI. As you may recall, I did an op-ed along with Cliff Sims that highlighted the threat from China at the time. You may remember that I got criticized for being political and saying that I was out-sizing the threat from China. Well, fast forward four years later, the FBI director says in his exit interview that China is the biggest threat of our generation and gets praised for saying that. Well, we were saying that four years ago. So, really putting the focus on that and continuing that is really going to be something President Trump needs.”

Ratcliffe also said he believes the U.S. foreign policy and intelligence establishment has been behind the times in understanding the threats China poses to the U.S., in part because they are built for fighting a Cold War with Russia that they already won decades ago and also in part because of the CCP’s use of spreading around cash to major institutions in America. He said Trump wants him to prepare the CIA to truly position the U.S. for the 21st century on this front and catch up with the fact that China — not Russia — is the biggest geopolitical threat the United States faces.

“You have people who have been at the different intelligence agencies for so long and focused on the Russia threat — and, as you said, legitimately because [Vladimir] Putin is a bad guy and a regime with a huge nuclear stockpile that we need to talk about — but yeah, the Intelligence Community has been slow to adjust to the fact that China is the primary geopolitical threat we face,” Ratcliffe said. “It’s the second largest economy, and they compete with us across the board on a peer-to-peer basis in a way that Russia can’t, and I think there are reasons for that that are unfortunately — there’s a financial aspect to that. From Washington, DC, to Wall Street to Silicon Valley to Hollywood, there has been a desire to keep China from being labeled a bad guy because a lot of people make a lot of money from China and in China, and China has a lot of influence in all of those places. But our intelligence is clear —I saw that as DNI and now it’s inescapable for people to not see — on how sinister and nefarious the People’s Republic of China and its various arms of the Chinese Communist Party have been. So, we’ve been slow to adjust the focus, and it’s one of the things that the president needs and wants from us.”

More from Ratcliffe’s first interview as CIA director is forthcoming.

'Golden child' forensic crime scientist faces 102 criminal charges over scandalous mistakes
[DM] A Colorado Bureau of Investigation DNA scientist has been accused of jeopardizing hundreds of criminal cases after she cut corners and failed to follow testing protocols.

Yvonne 'Missy' Woods was known as a 'golden child' during her 29-year career with the state agency - before she retired in 2023, as reported by Fox 21.

But she was arrested Tuesday for 102 criminal charges, including dozens of counts of forgery, as she is accused of altering data in over 500 cases between 2008 and 2023.

The investigation into her alleged misconduct began in September 2023 after an intern at the bureau discovered missing information in a sexual assault case that Woods handled in 2018.

A probe into other cases found that Woods had altered data to conceal tampering or contamination, deleted information that showed she failed to troubleshoot issues within the testing process and did not thoroughly document tests performed in case records, authorities said.

Woods allegedly admitted to deleting some historical data on a DNA instrument but claimed she was advised to do so during quarterly maintenance. Investigators then found the manufacturer had not recommended the deletion, per court documents.
She was reportedly found to have deleted specific values in reports about at least 35 sexual assault cases and at least seven homicides.

When Woods was asked about the alleged data manipulation, she reportedly said: 'I got to put out seven cases that day instead of five. I don’t know.'

In the first prosecution in the state believed to be impacted by Woods’ work, a Colorado man in June pleaded guilty to lesser charges in the killings of three people in 2017.

Prosecutors say they gave Garrett Coughlin the chance to plead guilty to second-degree murder partly because they were unable to call Woods to testify in a case that relied mostly on circumstantial evidence.

The deal allowed Coughlin to avoid a possible life sentence for felony murder.

Officials said Wednesday that the response to Woods’ alleged misconduct had cost more than $11 million.

Among those costs, the Colorado Department of Public Safety last year asked the Legislature for $7.5 million to pay for an independent lab to retest up to 3,000 DNA samples and for district attorneys to review and potentially reprosecute cases that are affected by lab errors.

State officials announced Tuesday they had hired a consulting firm to review the state’s forensic program. Bureau of Investigations Director Chris Schaefer said in a statement that the hiring of Forward Resolutions LLC was part of the agency’s effort to 'hold itself accountable' following the allegations against Woods.

Concerns about Woods’ work first surfaced more than a decade ago, according to authorities. In 2014, a worker questioned her testing of evidence and in 2018 she was temporarily removed from working on DNA cases after being accused of data manipulation, the report said.

Woods is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.

Candace Owens Claims That Emmanuel Macron's Wife Was Born a Man

Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones Launches State-Level DOGE
[Breitbart] President Donald Trump is cleaning up Washington with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and one state is following his example.

Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones is launching a state-level DOGE through the “Red Tape Rollback Act of 2025,” Breitbart News learned exclusively. The Act will be a priority for Georgia’s 2025 Legislative Session and will build on the work done during the 2024 session to cut government regulation, boost small businesses, and expand economic opportunities throughout Georgia.

“Last year, we made positive changes to combat burdensome and costly regulations on behalf of workers and business owners all over Georgia,” Jones said. “As a business owner, continuing our efforts to promote deregulation and free our businesses from harmful government red tape will continue to be a priority.”

Jones says his Georgia model will “complement” Trump’s efforts in D.C.

“Our state initiative complements DOGE, President Donald Trump’s plan to create efficiency, while paring down unnecessary spending and eliminating bureaucratic red tape at the federal level,” he said. “I look forward to Georgia leading the way and joining President Trump in reducing the size and scope of government, while promoting the growth of businesses across our state.”

The Red Tape Rollback Act targets bureaucratic creep by enforcing accountability and transparency throughout Georgia’s government.

By subscribing, you agree to our terms of use & privacy policy. You will receive email marketing messages from Breitbart News Network to the email you provide. You may unsubscribe at any time.
The Act would require all state agencies to complete a top-to-bottom review of all agency rules and regulations every four years, to account for the economic impact of all proposed rules and provide economic reports to the General Assembly when major rules are proposed. State agencies will also be directed to reduce compliance and paperwork burdens on small businesses.

The bill will also give legislators the ability to request a “Small Business Impact Analysis” for pending legislation to better understand how a bill might impact Georgia’s most important job creators.

Trump signed an executive order on his first day back in office renaming the U.S. Digital Service as the U.S. DOGE Service. It further directed that DOGE be established within the Executive Office of the President.

#1  I work in something called Lean Manufacturing that is the methodology that Musk uses at Tesla. I’m pretty sure that spontaneously creating a state level DOGE will end up being ineffective. There has to be a system methodology with a prioritization and assignment of projects, bench marking and auditing of results.

Progress on Hughes fire but new wild fires start
LOS ANGELES (AP); Evacuation orders were lifted Thursday for tens of thousands as firefighters with air support slowed the spread of a huge wildfire churning through rugged mountains north of Los Angeles [the 10,000 acre Hughes Wildfire], but new blazes erupted in San Diego County, briefly triggering more evacuations.

Two new blazes were reported Thursday in the San Diego area. Evacuations were ordered but were later lifted after a brush fire erupted in the late afternoon in the wealthy enclave of La Jolla near the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine. Further south, near the U.S.-Mexico border, another blaze was quickly spreading through the Otay Mountain Wilderness, home to the endangered Quino checkerspot butterfly and other unique species.

In Ventura County, a new fire briefly prompted the evacuation of California State University Channel Islands in Camarillo. Water-dropping helicopters made quick progress against the Laguna Fire that erupted in hills above the campus of about 7,000 students. The evacuation order was later downgraded to a warning.

US judges rule elephants are not people, rejecting bid for release
[GEO.TV] A bid to get five elephants released from a US zoo has failed after judges ruled the animals are not people so laws on unlawful imprisonment do not apply.

Animal rights campaigners acting on behalf of elderly African elephants Missy, Kimba, Lucky, LouLou and Jambo wanted a court to free them from Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado.

The Nonhuman Rights Project (NRP) said the creatures should be moved instead to an elephant sanctuary.

But Colorado's supreme court on Tuesday ruled that only people are covered by the state s habeas corpus laws.

"Colorado's habeas statute only applies to persons, and not to nonhuman animals, no matter how cognitively, psychologically, or socially sophisticated they may be," a panel of judges ruled.

"It bears noting that the narrow legal question before this court does not turn on our regard for these majestic animals generally or these five elephants specifically.

"Instead, the legal question here boils down to whether an elephant is a person... and because an elephant is not a person, the elephants here do not have standing to bring a habeas corpus claim."

Oil prices start to fall after Trump's statements in Davos
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Oil prices on international markets fell by an average of 1% on January 23 after US President Donald Trump's speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

As of 19:47 Moscow time, the price of March Brent crude futures fell by 0.91% to $78.28 per barrel. Prices for March WTI futures fell by 1.17% to $75.456.

At the same time, before the American leader’s speech, prices for both grades of oil fluctuated slightly.

As reported by Regnum News Agency, Trump, speaking via video link in Davos, said that he would ask the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to lower oil prices. According to him, this would allegedly help end the conflict in Ukraine. He expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that prices had not been lowered earlier.

Trump also called the U.S. oil and gas reserves the largest in the world. He plans to use them to develop the economy, make the country a manufacturing superpower, and the “capital of the world” for artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency.

The Bloomberg agency, based on the Russian Ministry of Finance data for December 2024, stated that this month, the revenues of the Russian federal budget became the highest since January 2011, despite the new tightening of sanctions. According to the publication, one of the main sources of replenishment of the treasury were oil and gas revenues.

Currently, GA/SC Gas costs us about $2.79 a gallon.
Another 67 cent drop, and we'll be at Trump's 2018 of $2.12 prices. That were seen around here in GA/SC.

Either way, we are DOWN from Biden's GA/SC high of $3.97 that were seen around here in GA/SC.

#4  March futures on oil took a tumble about 10am EST.

But as noted by others, this is a short term item.

FWIW, every $1 per barrel drop in oil prices should result in about a 2.5 cent/gallon drop in gasoline prices.

So if the WTI goes down to $60/bar (which is feasible IMO given industry capability and government cooperation), it should be about a 45 cent/gal drop in gasoline prices.

Government Corruption
Slimeballs at ATF caught deploying sneaky tactic to get around Trump's anti-woke purge
[Mail] The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives appeared to try and avoid Donald Trump's anti-DEI executive order by switching the job title of its Chief Diversity Officer.

On Tuesday, Trump's administration ordered federal agencies to place all Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) hires on paid leave pending review and warned authorities not to use 'coded or imprecise language' to circumvent the move.

But within a day of the order being announced, eagle-eyed online sleuths noticed the ATF's Chief Diversity Officer Lisa T. Boykin had a new job title, appearing to have been updated to 'Senior Executive.'

The ATF did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the claim it tried to go around Trump's executive order.

The move came after Trump signed an executive order on Monday within hours of being sworn-in that aimed to eradicate all DEI programs within the federal government.

The next day, the White House released a memo to federal agencies ordering them to not only place all DEI hires on paid leave by 5pm Wednesday, but to quickly form plans to fire every one of them.

In a letter first obtained by CBS News, the agencies were ordered to 'take prompt actions' against all DEI departments, with all employees warned to report 'any efforts to disguise these programs by using coded or imprecise language' - or risk 'adverse consequences.'

Monday's order was one of a raft of executive orders Trump moved quickly on, also including withdrawing the US from the World Health Organization, ordering all federal employees return to in-person work, and rescinding 78 Biden-era executive orders.

End this bullshit real quick.

How Donald Trump could make Greenland an offer they can''t refuse
[NYPOST] Donald Trump
...Perhaps no man has ever had as much fun being president of the US...
says he's serious about an acquisition, possibly hostile, of that place called Greenland, a snowy very large venue that nearly abuts the North Pole. But it's filled with natural resources and strategically placed to the north of us, and that's why The Donald wants it possibly as the 51st.

Since I'm in Davos at the World Economic Forum, a literal cluster-you-know-what of investment bankers, I thought I'd ask around about the feasibility of such a deal.

The answer, which might surprise you, went something like this: Difficult, not impossible.

You might recall, that was the exact answer given to Michael Corleone in "Godfather II," when he asked about the feasibility of murdering his rival for power, Hyman Roth. Michael gave the hit to one of his right hands, Rocco Lampone, to meet Roth, now a runaway, at the airport and whack him despite being surrounded by the feds.

Roth was indeed met, and murdered, though at a high price. Lampone was killed after putting a slug in Roth’s gut.

Taking over Greenland, similarly, could get messy. Trump hasn’t ruled out using the military, citing with much justification Greenland’s strategic importance to US self-preservation, its raft of natural resources. The Chinese and Russians are increasingly encroaching on our turf, establishing business ties with the self-governing territory of Denmark.

And of course, we provide the place with protection even as they do business with our global adversaries.

But before the bullets start flying, Wall Street dealmakers both here in Davos and back in New York are starting to think about a peaceful way to make the deal, and just how feasible the deal might be.

The biggest obstacle, I am told, is what you might expect: money.

"In the minds of Denmark and I’m sure Greenland’s, I’m sure it’s priceless," one Wall Street CEO told me.

Good point. How do you value a country? How do you put a price tag on the future value of Greenland’s mineral deposits?

Again, difficult, but not impossible. Everything has a price. Trump could argue to Denmark or whoever is calling the shots on this, that without the US watching its back, considering it part of our sphere of influence, get ready to start speaking Chinese, Russian or both.

Try to put a price tag on that.

Ok, but there is also an issue called "eminent domain" to consider. The legal construct allows the US government to seize property in the US based on a compelling national interest and to compensate the owner fairly. But extending that internationally, well, sets a crazy precedent.

"Eminent domain would be considered a global threat," a CEO told me. It might give credibility to China finally moving on Taiwan.

#1  As long as I can remember, which happens to be a very long time, our leaders have been using Russia as an excuse to do all kinds of really stupid things. To me, this sounds like the same old shit.

If Trump can get the Danes to sell, OK. Otherwise, forget it.

#2
I see a lot of positives if Greenland came onboard initially as a territory of the United States.

But we need to look at the BIG Political Picture also. How would the GL citizens vote? MAGA or Liberal Democrat?

Casting out a MEGA What If. Canada!
About 22 million voter age people. Use to being liberally governed and provided many free basic things the US Dem's dream up of implementing. That could flip the House & Senate to uber liberal.

#3  There are currently only 50k folks there so it is not eligible for statehood. It would come in as a territory with a path to statehood. The only reason to purchase Greenland outright would be to exploit the natural resources in a place that the Dems have not had a chance to block off as monuments. The exploitation would result in an influx of new blue collar residents. Today’s electorate is not as important as the electorate at the time of statehood. My guess is that it would vote like Alaska.

#4  seems to me the best alternative would be for Greenland to be in a Compact of Free Association with the USA, like the Marshall Islands.

Pakistan reports first poliovirus case of 2025
[GEO.TV] Pakistain's National Emergency Operation Centre reported the country's first polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set. Currently the disease is only found in Pakistain and Afghanistain...

The district of DI Khan reported 11 polio cases in 2024 while a total of 73 cases were confirmed throughout the country, the NEOC added.

To tackle the worrying rise in polio cases, the first nationwide vaccination campaign of the year will commence on February 3.

The NEOC further stated that polio teams will specifically target the affected regions of the country including DI Khan.

Astronomers Capture Rare and Eerie Black Emission on Sun
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Astronomers have captured a rare phenomenon on video — a plasma ejection from the surface of the Sun. The footage became available on January 23 on the website of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The video shows dark matter emanating from the Sun, after which it dissipates around the star.

“A very rare, beautiful and even slightly eerie phenomenon occurred today on our star,” the scientists noted in the publication.

They explained that this visual effect is produced by neutral hydrogen, which is capable of almost completely absorbing short-wavelength radiation falling on it from behind.

On January 4, scientists recorded five M-class solar flares and two more of the highest level, X. This phenomenon leads to emissions of solar plasma, the clouds of which, reaching the Earth, provoke magnetic storms on the planet.

The first flare of the highest X-class in 2025 was recorded on the Sun on January 3. Scientists noted that the energy release process was observed for 25 minutes.
