NYPD's top cop resigns amid subordinate's bombshell sex harassment allegations
[FoxNews] Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey has been accused of sexually harassing a fellow NYPD member.

The NYPD’s highest-ranking uniformed police officer resigned abruptly Friday amid bombshell allegations he demanded sexual favors from his subordinates on the force, the latest scandal to rock the NYPD and the Adams administration.

The sudden resignation of Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey came just hours before Lt. Quathisha Epps, who holds an administrative post in Maddrey’s office, filed a sexual harassment complaint against him with the state Division of Human Rights, according to documents obtained by Fox News Digital.

Epps claims Maddrey "engaged in a quid pro quo sexual harassment" by coercing her into performing unwanted sexual favors in exchange for overtime opportunities in the workplace.

The complaint also alleges Maddrey forced Epps to "take care" of another female officer, "to subject that officer to unwanted sexual advances and conduct, including sexual intercourse, within the workplace."

Epps also accuses Maddrey, who is married, of maintaining an inappropriate sexual relationship with another female detective, subjecting Epps to "further sexually offensive conduct in person and through her cellular phone."

The NYPD said in a press release Saturday morning that NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell had taken the position of interim chief of department Friday night and that Philip Rivera is now interim chief of patrol.

Suspect shot, killed after driving truck into Texas mall in incident that left at least 5 injured: police
[FoxNews] The suspect drove his truck 'several hundred yards' into the mall before being fatally shot by police

At least five people were injured, and a suspect was killed, after a man drove his pickup truck through the glass doors of a J.C. Penney in a mall in Texas, police said.

The incident happened on Saturday evening, just days before Christmas, at the Killeen Mall in Killeen, Texas – which is about 70 miles north of Austin.

In a press conference on Saturday evening, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Bryan Washko said that the truck was driven "several hundred yards" through the entrance of the J.C. Penney store.

Startled shoppers were injured as the driver was "actively running people over" and a fifth went to the hospital on their own, Sergeant Washko said. Those injured ranged from 6 to 75 years old, he said.

The incident unfolded as authorities noticed that the suspect, who has not been identified, was seen "driving erratically," and police attempted to pull him over.

Instead of stopping, the driver got off the highway, drove to the parking lot of the Killeen Mall and smashed his car through the doors of the J.C. Penney, Sergeant Washko said.

The man driving the truck was fatally shot by law enforcement, authorities said.

"There were officers from D.P.S., the Killeen Police Department and three other agencies that engaged in gunfire to eliminate this threat to the community," Sergeant Washko said.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Killeen Police Department for comment.

Michigan employee stabs president of manufacturing company in possible 'copycat' of UnitedHealthcare CEO murder: police
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] A Michigan man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing the president of his company on Tuesday, in what police believe could be a possible "copycat" attempt of the UnitedHealthcare CEO execution. Nathan Mahoney, 32, of Walker, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of assault with intent to murder and eluding a police officer. He is being held on a $500,000 bond, jail records show.

According to court documents, Mahoney walked into a conference room during a meeting at Anderson Express Inc. and allegedly stabbed Erik Denslow, the president of the manufacturing company, in the side with a "red-handled" knife. Denslow was transported to the hospital at death's door, but is expected to recover, Fox 17 reported

Mahoney expeditiously departed at a goodly pace and was arrested less than an hour later by Muskegon County deputies in a Ravenna backyard, court documents show.

Police are not ruling out the potential that this was a "copycat" of the December 4 killing of UnitedHealthcare CEP Brian Thompson, 50, in Manhattan. Deputy Police Chief Greg Poulson told News 8: "I think that comes to everyone's mind in this time. We're going through all his social accounts, all his electronic media, and trying to determine a motive for this act."

"It seems to be the popular thing in this day and age," Poulson said.

Matt Roberts, a Muskegon County prosecutor, told Fox 17 that multiple employees witnessed the stabbing, and that this was "certainly by no means a case of 'whodunit'." Roberts said that Mahoney was hired to work in the accounting department of Anderson Express Inc. a few weeks prior.

"We're not speculating on any motive in this case," the prosecutor said. "But despite whatever redress you might have against any individual, you cannot act violent mostly peaceful mostly peacefully against that person under any circumstances." Mahoney's next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 26.

#1  This is why I avoid fast food operations. From experience, I do not trust young food service workers. Should the floor and tables be a mess, the back room is also. The steak falls on the floor. Management, seeing it, tells the workers to put it back on the plate. Customers will never know. I eat at a restaurant that primarily has older workers. An out-of-state manager checked out the new fast-food operation across the street and told us not to eat there—several violations. The owner is aware but refuses to change anything. He let go of locals and has only nonspeaking workers now.

Ex-IMF chief Rato gets four-year jail term in Spain for tax crimes
[GEO.TV] A Madrid court on Friday said ex-IMF chief and Spanish economy minister Rodrigo Rato received a jail term of more than four years for tax crimes, money laundering and corruption.

The sentence comes after the disgraced former heavyweight of Spain's conservative Popular Party was enjugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
for four and a half years in 2018 for misusing funds while working at a bank.

Prosecutors had alleged that Rato defrauded the Spanish tax office and lined his own pockets to the tune of 8.5 million euros between 2005 and 2015.

Judges found Rato guilty of "three offences against the Treasury, one offence of money laundering and one offence of corruption between individuals", the court said in a statement.

Rato was sentenced to four years, nine months and one day in jail and fined more than two million euros ($2.1 million), which he can appeal at the Supreme Court.

Rato spent eight years variously serving as economy minister and a deputy prime minister in the conservative government of Jose Maria Aznar before going on to lead the International Monetary Fund from 2004 to 2007.

He later headed Spanish lender Bankia, where he misused company credit cards for personal expenses between 2010 and 2012.

That earned him the 2018 jail sentence before he was moved to a semi-open prison regime in late 2020.

The Bankia scandal came to light at the height of a severe economic crisis that left many people struggling financially.

It sparked outrage in Spain, which worsened when the government then spent 22 billion euros on a bailout for the failing lender that quickly won notoriety as a symbol of financial excess.

Trump floats idea of US reclaiming Panama Canal: 'Foolishly gave it away'
[FoxBusiness] President-elect Trump unleashed a tirade against Panama Canal tolls Saturday, claiming the U.S. is being ripped off by high prices.

In a Truth Social post Saturday, Trump complained at length about the fees levied on U.S. ships going through the Big Ditch. The Panama Canal's tolls can range from three to six figures depending on how large a vessel is and how much cargo it carries, with the largest ships being charged as much as $500,000.

"The Panama Canal is considered a VITAL National Asset for the United States, due to its critical role to America’s Economy and National Security," Trump wrote in his post. "A secure Panama Canal is crucial for U.S. Commerce, and rapid deployment of the Navy, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and drastically cuts shipping times to U.S. ports."

The incoming president criticized former President Carter, who Trump said "foolishly gave it away, for One Dollar." In 1977, Carter signed the Panama Canal Treaty, which phased out U.S. control of the canal by 1999.

Carter also signed the Neutrality Treaty, which ensured that the tolls would be equal for all nations. Trump implied that the U.S. should be given preferential treatment in his post.

"Our Navy and Commerce have been treated in a very unfair and injudicious way," the president-elect argued. "The fees being charged by Panama are ridiculous, especially knowing the extraordinary generosity that has been bestowed to Panama by the U.S. This complete 'rip-off' of our Country will immediately stop."

Trump also floated the idea of demanding the canal's ownership be returned to the United States if American ships are not given fair treatment.

"[The Panama Canal] was not given for the benefit of others, but merely as a token of cooperation with us and Panama," Trump concluded. "If the principles, both moral and legal, of this magnanimous gesture of giving are not followed, then we will demand that the Panama Canal be returned to us, in full, and without question.

Posted by: Oregon Dave || 12/22/2024 1:17 Comments || Top||

#2  The expansion of the canal that took place between about 2004 and 2016 cost a lot of money, probably over $4B. I'm sure China did a lot of the financing as their companies would be big beneficiaries. The govt of Panama is getting a lot of money in increased fees and the canal improvements are probably earning 10-15% return on investment. US freight probably pays well over $1B/yr to use the canal but saves more than that in time and fuel savings.

Congress Passes Elimination of Two Pension Restrictions
[FederalNewsNetwork] The Senate passed the Social Security Fairness Act to deliver higher Social Security benefits to millions of public sector retirees.

The bill now heads to President Joe Biden's desk for a signature after the Senate cleared the legislation just after midnight on Saturday by a vote of 70-26.

The House previously passed the bill in November.
-------------------------------

This will raise the social security payments to hundreds of thousands of retired State and Federal retirees. A typical beneficiary of this law is a person who put in 20 years for the military then retired from the military and did almost the same as their last military job by being a contractor for 10 more years. A lot of these people will be getting $500-1500 more each month from social security.

French Police Arrest 95 in Major International Child Pornography Ring Bust
How many are Moslem colonists?
[BREITBART] French authorities have arrested nearly a hundred people in connection to an immense international child pornography ring following an investigation launched last year by the National Gendarmerie.

Gendarmes, the police force responsible for fighting cyber crimes in La Belle France, revealed Thursday that they have seized some 122 computers, 152 smartphones, and 330 other digital media devices containing 375,000 photos and 156,000 videos totaling 217 terabytes of data as it dismantled a large-scale international child pornography operation.

So far, 95 people have been arrested in La Belle France in connection to the case, notably including the director of a youth organization, a sports instructor, and even a deputy mayor, Le Figaro reports. According to the paper, the majority of suspects have already admitted to their guilt in the case.

Of those arrested, 36 were already known to police for having previously committed sexual offences against children or having visited websites featuring child pornography. All of the suspects were men between the ages of 18 and 74, except for one 16-year-old minor.

Coast Guard Member's Spicy Response: Why WH Isn't Telling Truth About His Vessel's Encounter With Drones
[RedState] As I previously reported, among the stories about the mysterious drones in New Jersey, there was a concerning story about a bunch of drones following a Coast Guard vessel off of the Garden State.

But now the word is that Coast Guard members aren't too happy with what the White House said in dismissing their experience. One of the members of the crew is speaking out and refuting what the White House is saying about the drones.

The Coast Guard member spoke exclusively to the NY Post and described what they saw. He said they were looking for drones, but the drones "found us." He said there were possibly as many as 30.

The drones "appeared out of nowhere" at about 9 p.m., and followed the boat for approximately 15 minutes, he said. When the vessel shifted course, so too did the drones.

"I’m terrible with measurements, but [the swarm] was about 80 to 100 feet above us. They had four propellers. Seven feet across. The flashing lights, like you’ve seen. The festive green, red, and white lights."

He said the drones kept pace with the boat at about 20 miles per hour.

The drones then reportedly climbed 100 feet higher, turned toward shore, and went out of sight.

White House NSC spokesperson John Kirby dismissed the drone incidents in general and this particular incident.

National Border Patrol Council endorses Gabbard for DNI
[JustTheNews] The National Border Patrol Council, which represents about 18,000 Border Patrol agents, endorsed former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard for director of national intelligence, who President-elect Donald Trump nominated for the position.

"On behalf of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), I write to express our complete and total support for President-elect Donald Trump's nominee to be the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), former U.S. Representative and Lieutenant Colonel Tulsi Gabbard," the NBPC wrote in a letter to incoming Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., according the letter written on Tuesday that the The Daily Wire obtained.

"We have no doubt that Lt. Col. Gabbard is the right person to be the DNI and will work tirelessly to keep our nation safe, just as she has done for the past two decades," the letter also read.

Gabbard, a former Democrat turned Republican, has been meeting with senators on Capitol Hill about her nomination.

Scientists claim discovery of 'negative time'' in groundbreaking quantum research
[GEO.TV] Researchers at the University of Toronto say they have confirmed the existence of "negative time" in a tangible, physical sense, challenging traditional perceptions of how time operates.

For years, scientists have observed that light can sometimes seem to leave a material before it has even entered, often dismissed as a distortion caused by the interaction of waves with matter.

However, the team's latest experiments suggest this phenomenon is not an illusion but a measurable reality.

The findings, yet to be published in a peer-reviewed journal, have attracted both global attention and skepticism.

The researchers emphasise that these perplexing results highlight a peculiar quirk of quantum mechanics rather than a radical shift in our understanding of time.

"This is tough stuff, even for us to talk about with other physicists. We get misunderstood all the time," said Aephraim Steinberg, a University of Toronto professor specialising in experimental quantum physics.

While the term "negative time" might sound like a concept lifted from science fiction, Steinberg defends its use, hoping it will spark deeper discussions about the mysteries of quantum physics.

LASER EXPERIMENTSm
Years ago, the team began exploring interactions between light and matter.

When light particles, or photons, pass through atoms, some are absorbed by the atoms and later re-emitted. This interaction changes the atoms, temporarily putting them in a higher-energy or "excited" state before they return to normal.

In research led by Daniela Angulo, the team set out to measure how long these atoms stayed in their excited state. "That time turned out to be negative," Steinberg explained -- meaning a duration less than zero.

To visualise this concept, imagine cars entering a tunnel: before the experiment, physicists recognised that while the average entry time for a thousand cars might be, for example, noon, the first cars could exit a little sooner, say 11:59 am. This result was previously dismissed as meaningless.

What Angulo and colleagues demonstrated was akin to measuring carbon monoxide levels in the tunnel after the first few cars emerged and finding that the readings had a minus sign in front of them.

RELATIVITY INTACT
The experiments, conducted in a cluttered basement laboratory bristling with wires and aluminum-wrapped devices, took over two years to optimise. The lasers used had to be carefully calibrated to avoid distorting the results.

Still, Steinberg and Angulo are quick to clarify: no one is claiming time travel is a possibility. "We don't want to say anything traveled backward in time," Steinberg said. "That's a misinterpretation."

The explanation lies in quantum mechanics, where particles like photons behave in fuzzy, probabilistic ways rather than following strict rules.

Instead of adhering to a fixed timeline for absorption and re-emission, these interactions occur across a spectrum of possible durations -- some of which defy everyday intuition.

Critically, the researchers say, this doesn't violate Einstein's theory of special relativity, which dictates that nothing can travel faster than light. These photons carried no information, sidestepping any cosmic speed limits.

A DIVISIVE DISCOVERY
The concept of "negative time" has drawn both fascination and skepticism, particularly from prominent voices in the scientific community.

German theoretical physicist Sabine Hossenfelder, for one, criticised the work in a YouTube video viewed by over 250,000 people, noting, "The negative time in this experiment has nothing to do with the passage of time -- it's just a way to describe how photons travel through a medium and how their phases shift."

Angulo and Steinberg pushed back, arguing that their research addresses crucial gaps in understanding why light doesn't always travel at a constant speed.

Steinberg acknowledged the controversy surrounding their paper's provocative headline but pointed out that no serious scientist has challenged the experimental results.

"We've made our choice about what we think is a fruitful way to describe the results," he said, adding that while practical applications remain elusive, the findings open new avenues for exploring quantum phenomena.

"I'll be honest, I don't currently have a path from what we've been looking at toward applications," he admitted. "We're going to keep thinking about it, but I don't want to get people's hopes up."

#2  Yep, I've been out of phase for years now. I have long believed experimental quantum physics is the rabbit hole.

#4  Two questions that follow such am amazing assertion:

Is he worried about grant funding drying up, given his admission that there are no practical applications forthcoming, no peer review and lots of "misunderstanding", just a lot more thinking?

Is anybody running a drug-test swab on the air filters of the lab next time they swap them out. Might be interesting to see what comes up?

#5  Sounds like the photons exceeded the speed of light in that medium* by quantum voodoo, err, tunnelling. (*Not the speed of light in a vacuum mind you which is higher and a hard limit...)

#6  will this be another oops, the wire was loose on a sensor thing like the last one?
