[MLB] CINCINNATI β A gritty baseball great who compiled a nearly unrivaled list of achievements, only to tarnish his own legacy with sins against the game that drew a nearly unrivaled list of detractors, Pete Rose died on Monday at the age of 83.
Rose passed with the distinction of being both Major League Baseball's all-time hits leader and on its permanently ineligible list for betting on Cincinnati Reds games.
"Major League Baseball extends its deepest condolences to Pete Rose's family, his friends across the game, and the fans of his hometown of Cincinnati, Philadelphia and beyond who admired his greatness, grit and determination on the field of play. May he rest in peace," MLB said in a statement. Read the rest at the link

Saw Pete aka "Charlie Hustle" many times at the old Crosley Field and Riverfront Stadium. Back when the Big Red Machine was the best team in baseball.

He was the hero to a lot of boys playing Sandlot or Little League in SW Ohio in the 60's.

Pete didn't hit much in the 1976 World Series with the Yankees (he was World Series MVP the year before against Boston), but you should go find some youtube vids of what he did to the Yankees leadoff hitter Mickey Rivers. Every time Rivers came to the plate Pete was positioned literally 10 feet in front of the dirt cut-out and *then* would start his momentum forward as the pitcher released the ball. He basically dared Rivers to hit line drives at him while simultaneously announcing "There will be NO bunt hits this series." It was Rose being Rose--the ultimate competitor.

I don't think people really understand all these "green energy" projects. It's like pyramids of Egypt - objects of religious worship, with no practical value.

#2 Yea, but China is far away while Egypt is next door. I actually served on the border - we used to swap with Egyptian soldiers: two PX candy bars for a pack of cigarettes.

Musk's people got in. Trump and Graham's people got in. Biden and Harris...AWOL, WTF?
Looks to me like Biden and Harris would be down there serving up 'hot-A's' in a mess line. Perhaps they've written off NC and Ga, and now have other plans.

And the demoncrat propaganda machine will cover up that Trump and Musk are helping and Groping Hairplugs and Cameltoe are just raising money off it.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) β From Maine to Texas, dockworkers at 36 ports across the eastern United States are on strike for the first time in decades, a work stoppage that could snarl supply chains and cause shortages and higher prices if it stretches on for more than a few weeks.
Workers began walking picket lines early Tuesday in a strike over wages and the portsβ use of automation, though some progress was reported in negotiations over a new contract. The existing contract between the ports and about 45,000 members of the International Longshoremenβs Association expired at midnight.
The strike comes just weeks before a tight presidential election and could become a factor in the race if shortages begin to affect many voters.
In early picketing, workers outside the Port of Philadelphia walked in a circle and chanted, "No work without a fair contract." The union, which is striking for the first time since 1977, posted message boards on the side of a truck reading: "Automation Hurts Families: ILA Stands For Job Protection."

They will get no sympathy from me. Kamala will do nothing because she doesn't understand how this makes her and Biden look. The first recorded use of machineguns in the US was on striking workers (Who back then had some valid gripes). These clown deserve flamethrower time. The company should tell them "Every day you are on strike, we'll cut your pay 10%"

Had a neighbor who trucked goods into the NY harbor area. He said they had two lines for unloading-loading. The "standard" load-unload line. The "premium" load-unload line. Access to the 'premium' line was simple. Simply hand your premium payment to the I.L.A. thug who walked the truck line and you were good-to-go for the premium line.
Everyone in the "standard" line simply sat there and continued to wait.
Although there hasn't been a strike since 1977 the ILA has initiated several work slowdowns.
Also, the average wage for an ILA member is about $40/hr. Non wage benefits, e.g., paid vacation time, health benefits, are difficult to estimate but most analysts think it is equivalent to about $25/hr.

Speaking of Diddycrats getting excited about spankings tonight....where's Bootygig?
[GEO.TV] The total number of polio ...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set. Currently the disease is only found in Pakistain and Afghanistain... virus cases recorded in Pakistain this year climbed to 24 on Saturday after a two-and-a-half-year-old child from Sindh's Hyderabad was diagnosed with the virus.
According to sources at the National Emergency Operations Centre, the child, hailing from Hyderabad's Neronkot area, was left paralysed by the virus, marking the city's second polio case,.
The latest case in Hyderabad takes the province's total number of children affected by the current poliovirus outbreak to five.
The latest polio case comes a day after authorities had confirmed that a 10-month-old baby girl in district Kohat of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was diagnosed with the virus, marking the northwestern province's second case this year.
The infant from Tehsil Darra Adamkhel had contracted the wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) that left her paralysed on September 12.
Before that, authorities had confirmed that a 30-month-old boy from Pishin, Balochistan ...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it... , was struck by the poliovirus marking the province's 15th case this year.

[GEO.TV] Elon Musk's vision of establishing human colonies on Mars in the next 20 years is likely to face substantial challenges as the planet's harsh conditions pose the risk of turning humans green.
Not only that, experts have revealed that the Red Planet's harsh conditons could lead to other significant health risks for humans settling there, despite the SpaceX founder's amibitious timeline to send the first Starship to Mars within the next two years.
In light of the potential risks that Musk's plan may ensue, experts emphasised the formidable obstacles that must be overcome for human survival and prosperity on Mars.
Biologist Dr Scott Solomon, from Rice University in Texas, said that the children born to human settlers on Mars could undergo significant mutations and evolutionary changes, Indy100 reported.
According to Solomon, these changes include weakened muscles, compromised eyesight, greenish pigmentation, and brittle bones, as a result of high radiation and low gravitation forces.
Mars is smaller than Earth in size with 30% less gravity than humans have evolved to live with.
Additionally, the Red Planet lacks a magnetic field and protective ozone layer, leaving the planet open to space radiation, UV and charged particles from the sun and cosmic rays.
Solomon revealed that the impact could see humans mutate at extreme rates just to survive in the new conditions, resulting in a change in skin colour to help cope with radiation.
"Perhaps in the face of this high radiation, we might evolve some new type of skin pigment to help us deal with that radiation," Solomon explained in his book, 'Future Humans'. "Maybe we get our own green men."
We already have a skin pigment to cope with radiation: melanin. We reduced it to deal with lower UV levels in latitudes far north of our native Africa β those naturally paler people develop suntans when exposed to higher levels of sunlight. On the other hand, having chlorophyl as well as melanin would be pretty cool β like having solar panels as well as a natural gas furnace.

Well the asteroid Eros has more precious metals then even the Earth's core and the surface of the moon is littered with gems never eroded by water or wind (and yes the diamonds on the moon have a different C12-C13-C14 ratio as the NASA moon astronauts found out too their financial loss and likely a big part of the reason those with gold and gems were strongly behind the end of exploring the moon...) but mining the space stuff is much better then strip mining and tunneling the same on earth. Much greener too.
