[Rudaw] Fourteen people from Sulaimani, who were detained by Tunisian authorities last month, are set to go to trial on Monday, an Iraqi foreign ministry official told Rudaw, expecting a quick release for the detainees.
"Those people were deceived in the name of Europe. Even if they receive a sentence they will be immediately released, because their sentence will be for one month and they have been detained for more than a month," Omar Barzanji, undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Rudaw’s Soran Hussein on Sunday.
A group consisting of 16 people in total was detained in Tunisian waters in early August while trying to illegally enter into Europe. In June, Tunisia lifted visa requirements for Iraqi tourists.
Ten more people from the Kurdistan Region were detained in Tunisia recently for similar attempts, but they have all been released, according to Barzanji.

At the same time, US Central Command said on Sunday evening that over the past 24 hours, its forces had destroyed three Houthi drones and two missile systems in a Houthi-controlled Yemeni area, all of which were threatening US-led coalition ships and commercial vessels in international shipping lanes.
Houthi attacks on ships led the US to form a coalition of marine task forces to defend vessels, designate the Houthis as a terrorist group and launch strikes against Houthi-controlled Yemen, including Sanaa, Saada, Ibb and Hodeidah, in collaboration with the UK.
Hodeidah, Yemen's only major coastal city under Houthi control, has received most of the US and UK strikes since January, as the militia is said to have used its coasts to launch explosive-laden and remote-controlled boats to attack ships.

Note Qatar financial support. The al-Thani family that has ruled Qatar for decades has long been a supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood (Ikhwan al-Muslimeen), and its center of operation outside of Europe is located there. The Pentagon stupidly opened a base there and provides the family with protection. The State Department has believed and still believes that the al-Thani are trustworthy go-betweens. This has only proved how stupid our politicians and diplomats really are.

The corruption runs deeper than the Department of State.
[DHAKATRIBUNE] A BNP leader has been accused of occupying the ancestral home of renowned poet and novelist Sunil Gangopadhyay in the Dasar upazila of Madaripur.
The BNP leader allegedly vandalized several photographs, books, and furniture inside the house and later stored OMS (Open Market Sale) rice there.
The accused BNP leader is Sohel Howlader, who was the legal affairs secretary of the BNP's Dasar upazila committee. He resides in the Kazibakai area of the upazila, reports Prothom Alo.
Currently, the position of Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) in Dasar is vacant.
Regarding this, the UNO of Kalkini, Uttam Kumar Das, said: ''A BNP leader named Sohel Howlader had occupied the house and stored OMS dealer's rice there. Before we could take action, he removed the rice. Action will be taken against the occupier.''
According to local sources and the Dasar and Kalkini Upazila administrations, Sunil Gangopadhyay's ancestral property in the East Maijpara mouza of Kazibakai Union in Dasar Upazila consists of 7 acres and 15 decimals of land.
Of this, 2 acres and 97 decimals are recorded as government khas land.
Last Saturday afternoon, BNP leader Sohel Howlader and his associates broke into a tin shed room of the novelist's ancestral home (Sunil Smriti Pathagar), vandalized the belongings, books, furniture, and images, including a picture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. They then stored about a truckload of OMS rice in the room and locked it with a new padlock. They also removed a signboard put up by the deputy commissioner in front of the house.
A local individual responsible for overseeing the writer's ancestral home, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered... , said: ''Since the change in government, Sohel Howlader has been claiming the writer's land as his own with his people. When some supporters of the Awami League criticized him, he attacked their homes. Now, no one is speaking out of fear. Taking advantage of this, Sohel and his people broke the lock of the tin shed room and installed a new lock. They stored OMS rice there. The local administration and everyone is aware of this.''
''We have received reports that an individual has taken possession of Sunil Gangopadhyay's ancestral home by breaking the lock. The UNO and AC Land have been instructed to take action against those involved. They will vacate the writer's house and take necessary steps,'' said the Madaripur DC Mohammad Maroofur Rashid Khan.

[LIBYAREVIEW] Six bodies believed to be from a shipwreck off the coast of Libya were recovered near Sicily, Italia, on Sunday, according to DW.
The victims are thought to be among those missing from a boat that sank earlier in the week in Libyan waters, according to Italian media reports.
The decomposed bodies were found near Sicily, located off Italia's southwestern mainland. They were transported to Lampedusa, an island about 350 kilometres (217 miles) away from where they were discovered.
The Italian coastguard had rescued seven Syrian men from a partially sunken boat southwest of Lampedusa on Wednesday. The survivors reported that they had departed from Sabrata, Libya, on September 1, with 28 people onboard, including three children. They said that 21 people fell into the sea amid rough weather conditions.
''We left Sabrata, Libya, on Sunday afternoon,'' one survivor told Italian media. ''Onboard were all Sudan ...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans... ese and Syrians. The boat capsized after a day at sea — Everyone fell into the water because the weather was bad and the sea was rough. We tried to save our companions, but there was nothing we could do.''
Rescuers believe that the bodies retrieved are some of the 21 individuals who went missing from the shipwreck, based on the coordinates of the recovery site, as reported by the Italian news agency AGI.
Lampedusa's mayor, Filippo Mannino, described the discovery as ''another tragedy'' in the ongoing migration crisis. ''We hoped, in the hours following the rescue of the seven Syrians, that the coasties patrol boats would be able to find the missing alive. But the passing of time has made us lose all hope,'' Mannino told local media.
The latest incident highlights the dangers faced by migrants colonists trying to cross the Mediterranean from Libya in search of safety and a better life in Europe.

Once, in a century long, long ago, I was trying to buy a house in Lampedusa. It was practically being given away. I investigated and found why it was a bargain. In 1946 it would have been great. Three decades later it was a disaster.

[GEOTV] Major Israeli operations across the occupied West Bank are seriously worsening an already "calamitous" situation there that has been deepened by serious settler violence, the UN rights chief said Monday.
Opening a session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Volker Turk decried soaring violence in the West Bank amid major Israeli raids.
"In the West Bank, deadly and destructive operations, some at a scale not witnessed in the last two decades, are worsening a calamitous situation there, already aggravated by serious settler violence," Turk told the council.
It does. But there is a German family name convention — family names resulting from a Napoleonic command — that connects to where the family came there from. Another connects to appearance. One branch of my mother’s family is also named Turk, supposedly because they came to Germany from Turkey… or possibly because they had dark hair.
[IsraelTimes] Three Paleostinians suspected of planning to carry out an imminent terror attack were detained earlier today, the Shin Bet security agency says.
One of the suspects was arrested on the Route 6 highway in central Israel this afternoon after a vehicle with 12 other Paleostinians was stopped by coppers.
The other two suspects were detained by IDF troops later in the day at their homes in the West Bank, following the interrogation of the Paleostinian detained on Route 6.
The trio are from the West Bank town of Bani Naim, near Hebron, according to the Shin Bet.
The Shin Bet says weapons that would have been used in the attack were seized at the homes of the other two cell members.
All three are currently being questioned by the security agency.
The suspect were tossed into the calaboose near the Horeshim interchange on Route 6 shortly before 1 p.m. after coppers stopped a minivan carrying 12 other Paleostinians, who were all illegally in Israel.
Israeli troops found weapons intended for the alleged attack in their homes, the Shin Bet added. They included an M-16 assault rifle and magazines, according to an image released by the agency.
The suspect detained on Route 6 was unarmed, and no explosives or firearms were found inside the vehicle, though he may have been scheduled to pick up a weapon at another location.

[IsraelTimes] The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees says a convoy of United Nations vehicles and staff detained by Israel in northern Gaza on Monday has been released and are back at a UN facility.
UNRWA chief Phillip Lazzarini says the convoy was carrying Gazans and foreign staff who were en route to Gaza City and northern Gaza to roll out a polio vaccination campaign when they were detained.
“The convoy was stopped at gun point just after the Wadi Gaza checkpoint with threats to detain UN staff. Heavy damage was caused by bulldozers to the UN armoured vehicles,” Lazzarini says on X. “All staff & convoy are now released & back safely in the UN base.”
The Israeli military said earlier it detained the convoy after receiving intelligence indicating that “Palestinian suspects” had snuck aboard the convoy. It had disputed claims that the convoy was carrying polio vaccines.
Lazarini says he is unsure if the vaccination campaign will resume in northern Gaza on Tuesday.
This significant incident is the latest in a series of violations against UN staff including shootings at convoys & arrests by the Israeli Armed Forces at checkpoints despite prior notification,” Lazzarini complains.

Hamas denies its fighters were in targeted tent camp
[IsraelTimes] The Hamas terror group claims in a statement that its operatives were not in the al-Mawasi humanitarian zone near Khan Younis when it was hit by Israeli fighter jets.
Israel says it a targeted a Hamas command and control center embedded in the tent camp, while taking multiple steps to minimize harm to civilians.
“The occupation’s allegations of the presence of resistance fighters are a blatant lie,” Hamas says in a statement on Telegram.
The group has repeatedly denied embedding within civilian populations, despite evidence to the contrary.
An official in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip says at least 40 people were killed and 60 injured in an Israeli strike on a humanitarian zone in southern Gaza where the military said Hamas was operating a command and control center.
The official says the number represents those who were found and transferred to hospitals, with civil defense officials indicating more people may be missing beneath the wreckage.

Avichay Adraee, a military front man, posted on social media platform X a map showing several areas in the Gaza Strip's northwest for its invasion, declaring them part of a "dangerous combat zone".
Israel has issued numerous evacuation orders during its war on Gaza.
No doubt this annoys the residents, but it does get them and their children out of the crossfire.
The evacuation orders have covered most of Gaza's territory, according to the UN, and include areas that the military had previously said were largely cleared of Paleostinian gangs.
Hamas, on its official Telegram channel, said the denial of 630,000 students of their right to education is a ''deliberate violation to all rights stipulated by international laws, which leaves the international community and UN agencies responsible to put an end to these crimes'', reported Al Jazeera.
Even in the Warsaw Ghetto and the post-war Cyprus internment camps the Jews provided classes for their children. It can be done, if the culture makes it a priority. Hamas has a minister of education — he should stop lolling at his ease in the deep tunnels and see to educating the kids. Maybe even add some of the 3Rs instead of spending so much time on marching with fake guns and diving through flaming hoops.
At least 19 Palestinians were reported killed as the Israeli military said it struck three senior Hamas operatives at a command room embedded within an Israeli-designated humanitarian zone in the southern Gaza Strip early Tuesday morning.
In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces said fighter jets struck “significant Hamas terrorists” who were based in the command center in Khan Younis. Palestinian media reported that the strikes took place in the al-Mawasi region on the Strip’s southern coast, west of Khan Younis.
The Hamas commanders had “advanced and deployed terror plots against IDF troops and Israeli civilians,” the military said.
They were later named by the IDF as Samer Ismail Khader Abu Daqqa, the head of Hamas’s aerial forces; Osama Tabash, the head of surveillance and targets in Hamas’s intelligence division; and Ayman Mabhouh, another senior Hamas officer.
All three were “directly involved in the October 7 massacre” and in other attacks on troops in Gaza and against Israel in recent months, the IDF said.
The military did not immediately confirm if the three were killed in the strike.
Gaza’s Health Ministry said it confirmed that at least 19 people were killed in the strike, and that the toll may rise as more bodies are recovered.
The Hamas health ministry said more than 60 others are wounded, and the death toll may rise as some victims are still under the rubble and sand.

The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers... ’s Hezbollah on Monday launched explosive-laden drones at northern Israel, one of which impacted a high-rise residential building in the coastal city of Nahariya, causing damage, authorities said.
The Israel Defense Forces said two drones were launched in the attack, which was later claimed by the terror group.
There were no injuries in the attack, though the drone that hit the building caused damage to two apartments.
In a statement, the terror group took responsibility for the drones but claimed to have targeted a military base, the IDF’s Shraga Camp, some three kilometers (1.8 miles) south of Nahariya.
Hezbollah said the attack was a response to recent IDF strikes in southern Lebanon.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi called the attack "a serious incident."
Wrapping up an assessment on the northern front with the military’s top brass, Halevi said the "IDF operates strongly in the north, and is at a high level of readiness with prepared operational plans, ready for any mission that will be required."
In another attack on the Western Galilee on Monday, three explosive-laden drones launched from Lebanon struck near the border community of Shlomi, lightly injuring two soldiers, the IDF said.
Hezbollah took responsibility for the attack, saying it targeted a military base in the area.
The IDF said the soldiers were taken to a hospital in good condition.
In addition to the drones, Hezbollah also fired more than 20 rockets from Lebanon at northern Israel on Monday, according to the IDF. The rockets targeted the Western Galilee, the Kiryat Shmona area, and the Galilee Panhandle. There were no reports of injuries.
The terror group also claimed to have launched a surface-to-air missile at an Israeli fighter jet over southern Lebanon on Monday, forcing it to retreat.

Separately, Israeli tanks shelled a Hezbollah observation post in Kafr Shouba, the IDF added.
Overnight, Israeli fighter jets struck several sites and a rocket launcher belonging to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon’s Kafr Kila, Taybeh, Hanine, and Yarine, the IDF said earlier Monday.
A separate strike on Sunday night in Khirbet Selm targeted a building used by Hezbollah, the military added.
Amid the ongoing exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah, US CENTCOM chief Gen. Michael Kurilla, who was again visiting Israel, met with IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi and other generals on Sunday, the Israeli military said. The IDF said the visit "focuses on current threats, with an emphasis on threats from Lebanon and Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. After an assessment with Halevi, Kurilla met with Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. "The IDF will continue to deepen its relationship with the US Armed Forces, due to our commitment to strengthening regional stability and the coordination between the militaries," the IDF added.
On Sunday, Kurilla met with Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Gallant on X said that they had discussed "the operational and strategic situation in the region" and "reflected on ways to further strengthen interoperability to achieve our common objectives."
Since October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli communities and military posts along the border on a near-daily basis. So far, the skirmishes have resulted in 26 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of 20 IDF soldiers and reservists. There have also been several attacks from Syria, without any injuries.
Hezbollah has named 433 members who have been killed by Israel during the ongoing skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon but some also in Syria. Another 78 operatives from other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and dozens of civilians have also been killed.

[DM] An 'ISIS-inspired' terror plot to kill Pope Francis with bows and arrows during his visit to Indonesia has been foiled by police.
Seven suspects were arrested across September 2 and 3 following tip-offs from concerned citizens.
Bow and arrows, a drone and ISIS leaflets were found during a raid of one of the alleged militant's houses.
Some of those arrested had also pledged allegiance to ISIS, The Straits Times has reported.
The suspects, who have been named only as HFP, LB, DF, FA, HS, ER and RS, were reportedly angered by the Pope visiting Jakarta's Istiqlal mosque, the largest in South-east Asia.
There was also fury over the government's request for TV stations to broadcast the Pope's visit over the usual Islamic call to prayer.
A spokesman for Indonesia's terror-crushing unit Detachment-88 said investigations are 'ongoing' and it is unclear if the detainees knew each other.
'We have a mechanism to monitor and filter. We had tip-off information from members of the public,' Colonel Aswin Siregar added.
Pope Francis is currently on a 12-day tour of the Asia Pacific during which he will visit Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Singapore.
He arrived in East Timor on Monday, where he will hold a huge mass expected to attract more than half the country's 1.3 million population.

[GEOTV] Syrian state media said Monday that overnight Israeli strikes killed 14 people in central Hama province, with a war monitor reporting a higher death toll in raids on sensitive military sites.
The Israeli military, which has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syria since the start of the civil war there in 2011, declined to comment on the latest reported attack.
Syrian official news agency SANA, citing a medical source, said: "The number of martyrs resulting from the Israeli aggression on a number of sites in the vicinity of Masyaf has risen to 14 martyrs and 43 wounded including six critically."

The attack also injured 15 others and caused the destruction of civilian and military infrastructure in the area, in the southwestern countryside of Hama, according to the Observatory.
Syria’s state-owned SANA news agency placed the corpse count at five, saying the strikes also caused damage to a highway near Masyaf and sparked a wildfire.

Airstrike in Masyaf, Syria, targeted military facility developing Hezbollah missiles and 'chemical, biological and potentially nuclear weapons,' The New York Times reports.
The Masyaf area, west of Hama, is thought to be used as a base for Iranian forces and pro-Iranian militias, and has been repeatedly targeted in recent years in attacks widely attributed to Israel.
It contains the Scientific Studies and Research Center, known as CERS or SSRC, which according to Israel is used by Iranian forces to manufacture precision surface-to-surface missiles.
