[SUDANTRIBUNE] More than 136,000 people have fled Sudan ...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans... ’s Sennar state since the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces began a series of attacks on towns, the UN said on Wednesday.
This latest wave of displacements means they now join more than 8 million people already out of their homes since war broke out between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese army in April 2023.
Aid agencies warned of famine, mainly in RSF-controlled areas across Sudan.
The RSF began a campaign on 24 June to seize the city of Sennar, but quickly turned to the smaller towns of Sinjah and al-Dinder. This prompted an exodus of civilians from all three, mainly to neighbouring al-Gedaref and Blue Nile states.
Images on social media showed people of all ages wading across the Blue Nile.
Activists in both states say that there is little shelter or food aid for the incomers. In Gedaref, they faced downpours of heavy rain while stranded in the state capital’s main market with no tents or blankets after schools that had served as displacement centres were emptied by the government, explained the local resistance committee.
The UN Migration Agency (IOM) said the state was already home to more than 285,000 people displaced from Khartoum and al-Gezira states.
It said villages in Gedaref state, one of several possible targets for the RSF campaign, had already witnessed people fleeing due to the fighting.
At least 12 people were reportedly killed by artillery fire on a livestock market in the city of Al Fasher on Wednesday, amid warnings on an immediate ceasefire in the area

The family of the murdered Libyan footballer Bashir al-Riani has vowed not to "forfeit his blood" after the country’s Supreme Court overturned the acquittal of Saadi Qadaffy in the case.
Saadi, the son of the late Libyan leader Muammar Qadaffy ...a proud Arab institution for 42 years, now among the dear departed, though not the dearest...> , was previously acquitted by the Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... Court of Appeals in April 2018 of charges related to al-Riani’s torture and murder in 2005. Despite the acquittal, Saadi remained imprisoned until his release on 6 September 2021, after which he reportedly left for The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... .
In a video statement, al-Riani’s son announced that the Supreme Court had overturned Saadi’s acquittal and accepted an appeal against it, returning the case to the Tripoli Court of Appeals. He asserted this decision as proof of Saadi’s guilt and vowed to pursue justice until the trial is completed.
There has been no comment from Saadi’s supporters regarding the Supreme Court’s decision. However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach... Ahmed Nashad, a Libyan lawyer and head of the defence team for Abdullah Senussi ...former Libyan supremo Muammar Qadaffy's right hand man. He looks like you always expected Luca Brasi to look.... , former intelligence chief under Qadaffy, explained that overturning Saadi’s acquittal requires a new trial at the Tripoli Court of Appeals.
Al-Riani was found dead in 2005 near Saadi’s seaside residence. Saadi was accused of torturing and killing him, though accounts of the incident vary widely.
In June 2014, former Attorney General Abdelkader Jumaa Radwan referred Saadi’s case to the indictment chamber of the North Tripoli Primary Court after concluding the investigation.
Saadi Qadaffy, now 50, had a brief football career in Italia before leading an elite military unit. After the 2011 revolution that toppled his father’s regime, Saadi fled to Niger but was extradited to Libya in 2014 and tossed in the clink Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out! . His release in 2021 followed a court order issued two years earlier.
A former political official close to the Government of National Unity speculated that Saadi’s release was politically motivated, part of broader efforts to free several former regime figures. He noted that many Qadaffy loyalists remain imprisoned despite court orders for their release.
The Government of National Unity stated that Saadi’s release was executed in collaboration with the Attorney General’s office, honouring a prior judicial decision.
Al-Riani’s son hailed the Supreme Court’s ruling as a testament to the fairness of the Libyan judiciary, reaffirming the family’s commitment to seeking justice.

The Houthi movement itself began in the nineteen nineties when a small knot of insurgents calling themselves "the Believing Youth" was created under the leadership of Hussein Badr al Din al Houthi. The politico-religious movement, active in Amran and Sa'ada provinces, was determined to seek regional autonomy and revive Zaidi shiism, a sect whose dominant belief is that only descendants of the Prophet Mohammad can be legitimate Muslim rulers. (The Hashimite Imamate ruled Yemen for centuries before a coup ended its rein in 1962.) The Zaidi opposed Yemen President Saleh; though he was a member of the sect, he did not have the Hashimite bloodline required to assume leadership. In addition, the Houthi believed that for decades the Zaidi had been marginalized economically, and thus the movement was determined to take a bigger bite of Yemen's (minuscule) economic pie. And now there is practically no pie, and continued air attacks will ensure that once again Yemen will be rushing pell-mell backward to the 14th century.
[IsraelTimes] Zaniar Matapour, who had sworn allegiance to ISIS, sentenced to 30 years after killing two people and seriously wounding nine in the Norwegian capital in 2022
An Iranian-born Norwegian man was found guilty of terrorism on Thursday in a 2022 attack on an LGBTQ+ festival in Oslo and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Two people were killed and nine were seriously maimed in the shooting at three locations, chiefly outside the London Pub, a popular gay bar, on June 25, 2022.
The Oslo District Court said Zaniar Matapour shot 10 rounds with a machine gun and eight shots with a handgun into the crowd. It said Matapour had sworn allegiance to the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... group and "has been radicalized for several years."
His 30-year sentence was the highest penalty in Norway since terror legislation was changed in 2015.
Matapour can request parole after 20 years but can only be released if he is deemed no longer dangerous. If he's dead he's no longer dangerous. Just saying...
Prosecutor Aud Kinsarvik Gravås called it "the right outcome" and "a historically severe punishment." Matapour’s lawyer, Marius Dietrichson, said it was "a severe punishment" and that they have not yet decided whether to appeal.
Espen Evjenth, who was hit by a bullet in the forehead at the London Pub, told the Norwegian news agency NTB that it was "a great relief."
Extensive video material of the attack had been presented in court. The verdict was not read in court but sent out electronically. Matapour would have the verdict read to him in prison, the court said.
Matapour was overpowered by bystanders after the attack and arrested. Following the attack, a Pride parade was canceled, with police saying they could not guarantee security.
The shooting shocked Norway, which has a relatively low crime rate but has experienced a series of "lone wolf" attacks by individuals in recent decades, including one of the worst mass shootings in Europe. In 2011, a right-wing holy warrior killed 69 people on the island of Utoya after setting off a bomb in Oslo that left eight dead.
Six days before the attack, Norway’s external intelligence agency, E-Tjenesten, learned from an undercover agent that a possible action was expected in a Nordic country and the information was passed to the domestic security service.
Matapour had pleaded innocent. No, no! Certainly not! He was examined by a court-appointed psychiatrist who concluded that he was sane at the time of the attack.
During the trial, both the prosecution and the defense agreed that Matapour fired into the crowd and there was no disagreement that the shooting was terror motivated. However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable... Dietrichson had sought acquittal, saying his client had been provoked to carry out the attack by an E-Tjenesten agent who was pretending to be a high-ranking member of the Islamic State group.
The court said that "it is clear that the actions of the E-Tjenesten did not involve any illegal provocation" and "did not provoke an act of terrorism that would not otherwise have been committed."
The trial started in March and ended May 16. Four others are suspected of complicity in the case, but none have been formally charged.
[IsraelTimes] Four suspects, including two Iranians, accused of racially-motivated arson attack; another three arrested for throwing flammable materials at Athens synagogue
Greece’s anti-terrorism police have arrested seven people over arson attacks against an Israeli-owned hotel and a synagogue in central Athens this year, police said in a statement on Thursday.
A 25-year-old Greek woman, two Iranians, aged 46 and 36, and an Afghan accomplice, 44, were arrested over a May 15 attack with a makeshift incendiary bomb on a building housing an Israeli-owned hotel and restaurant.
The four were accused of arson that could potentially put human lives at risk and of causing damage to foreign-owned property in a racially motivated attack.
In another incident on June 18, a 44-year old Greek man and a 26-year-old Afghan rode near a synagogue in Athens on a cycle of violence and threw flammable material at its entrance causing fire, police said. A police official said a 30-year-old Iranian had been arrested as their accomplice.
The three were accused of arson, gun possession and robbery among other violations, the official added. Police have seized evidence including mobile phones found in a residence in Athens and a prison.
Five of those arrested have been detained and two have been released on restrictions while awaiting trial.
In March 2023, Greek police arrested two men suspected of being members of a group that planned an arson or kaboom against an Israeli restaurant and the same synagogue in Athens. [IsraelTimes] Detainees suspected of ‘violent crackdown on a peaceful anti-government protest’ in Damascus in 2012 that killed six, prosecutors say
Investigators in Germany and Sweden on Wednesday arrested eight suspects allied with Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Leveler of Latakia... ’s government over alleged participation in crimes against humanity in Syria, prosecutors in both countries said.
The Germans have been assiduously pursuing the few miscreants arrived within their borders over a decade ago, while ignoring the masses of active jihadis come to prey on the natives since Angela Merkel invited them to make themselves at home in 2015, successive governments refusing almost complete to deport even the convicted criminals and rejected asylum seekers among them. Much like the Biden administration, in fact.
The suspects are accused of taking part in a "violent mostly peaceful crackdown on a peaceful anti-government protest" in the al-Yarmouk district in Damascus on July 13, 2012, Germany’s Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office said.
It said the four stateless Syrian Paleostinians and Syrian national detained in Germany were "strongly suspected of killing and attempting to kill civilians, qualified as crimes against humanity and war crimes."
It named the Syrian Paleostinians as Jihad A., Mahmoud A., Sameer S. and Wael S. The Syrian national, identified as Mazhar J, is believed to have worked for the Syrian military intelligence service.
"They and other accessories specifically targeted the civilian protesters, shooting at them," resulting in six deaths and other serious injuries, the prosecutor said.
The war between Assad’s troops and armed opposition groups, including Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. It has killed more than half a million people, forced millions to flee their homes, and ravaged Syria’s economy and infrastructure.
Wednesday’s arrests took place as a result of work carried out by an investigation team named "Caesar" after a defector who worked as a photographer for Syrian military police.
In 2013 he smuggled more than 50,000 photographs out of Syria, many of them documenting the deaths of prisoners in detention centers or military hospitals.
’SEVERE AND REPEATED’ ABUSE
German prosecutors said that those arrested in Sweden belonged to a pro-government militia which also participated in the crimes on July 13, 2012.
Ulrika Bentelius Egelrud, the Swedish prosecutor in charge of the investigation, said the suspects were arrested thanks to "good cooperation with Germany, Eurojust and Europol."
German prosecutors say the four Syrian Paleostinians also "physically abused civilians from Al Yarmouk severely and repeatedly" between mid-2012 and 2014, including at militia checkpoints on the outskirts of the district, inhabited predominantly by Paleostinians.
Germany let in hundreds of thousands of Syrians during the 2015-16 refugee influx and has arrested several Syrians since on its soil over crimes committed in their country.
It has used the principle of universal jurisdiction, which allows the prosecution of certain serious crimes — regardless of where they took place — to try Syrians over atrocities committed during the country’s civil war.
One of the most high profile cases to be brought to trial was that of a former Syrian colonel who was found guilty in January 2022 of crimes against humanity committed in Damascus.
Last month a Swedish court acquitted a Syrian former general of war crimes charges, saying prosecutors had not proved his involvement in the army’s "indiscriminate attacks." Former brigadier general Mohammed Hamo, 65, was one of the highest-ranking Syrian military officials to stand trial in Europe.
[JPost] In the central Gaza Strip city of Deir al Balah, Hamas terrorists embedded a rocket launcher in a humanitarian area.
The IDF continued to push forward in the Gaza City neighborhood of Shejaia over the past day, succeeding in eliminating numerous terrorists, terror infrastructure, and weaponry, the IDF stated on Saturday morning.
In one incident in the north Gazan neighborhood, combat team troops from the 7th Brigade and the Paratroopers Brigade, operating under the command of the 98th Division, battled terrorists who had attempted to ambush and fire upon the troops, the IDF added.
By the end of the engagement, Israeli forces reportedly successfully eliminated all of the terrorists without sustaining any casualties.
During other operational activities in the area, engaging other armed squads of terrorist fighters and destroying weapons and infrastructure both above and below ground.
In another incident, an Israeli air strike killed three terrorists armed with RPGs.
Separately, in the southern Gazan city of Rafah, several terror squads were eliminated, including one cell which, after firing at troops in the area, was targeted by airstrike.
The IDF also reported locating and destroying several subterranean terror structures and confiscating military equipment and weapons in the vicinity.
Rocket launcher embedded in humanitarian area
In the central Gaza Strip city of Deir al Balah, Hamas terrorists embedded a rocket launcher in a humanitarian area, the IDF added.
The launcher was reportedly located near civilian shelters.
The IDF noted that it subsequently took numerous measures to ensure that its precise strike on the launcher would have minimum impact on civilians in the area.
The military noted that among these measures was a pre-warning given to the civilians in the area and operating according to real-time intelligence.
Attempt to reestablish a foothold in Shejaia stopped
Later, the IDF added details on what its personnel had found in the Shejaia area.
The military noted that it had found subterranean tunnel shafts that contained weapons, including long-range rockets. The IDF theorized that this indicated an attempt on behalf of terrorists in the area to reestablish a base there.
The IDF also reported that it had uncovered and destroyed buried charges in the area.
Speaking on the military's discoveries, 890th Battalion commander Major Omer said, "We found a lot of enemy infrastructure here: anti-tank missiles, long-range missiles that can reach the center (of Israel) as well, [and] various types of mortars that fire on the border areas, and we have neutralized this threat."
The IDF's discovery of terrorists' attempt to reestablish a base in Shejaiai comes as it continues operational activity of its reinvasion of the area, where it first established operational control in January of this year.
Last week, the IDF reported that in its reinvasion of the neighborhood, it managed to operate more completely in the area and penetrated more of the Hamas tunnel network there.

Over the past day, the IDF says troops killed dozens of button men in festivities, tank shelling, and by calling in Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s to Shejaiya.
One strike in Shejaiya was carried out against a terrorist who launched rockets at the southern community of Nahal Oz yesterday. The IDF says the terrorist was identified and struck two minutes after the attack on the border community.
The pinpoint operation in Shejaiya, launched on June 27, is being carried out by the 98th Division.

And in central Gaza’s Netzarim Corridor, several more button men were killed by troops with the 99th Division, including a cell attempting to plant bombs, the military says.
Amid the ground operations in Gaza, the IDF says fighter jets and drones carried out more than 50 strikes across the Strip, including booby-trapped buildings, cells of button men, and rocket launchers.
[IsraelTimes] IDF strikes multiple terror targets in Lebanon as cross-border fire persists in the north
Two IDF soldiers were lightly maimed Friday evening and a building was damaged by a rocket impact in the northern city of Kiryat Shmona, the military said, as Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel continued.
The terror group launched a barrage of several rockets at the north, including some five rockets at Kiryat Shmona, some of which impacted the city and caused damage.
The IDF said fighter jets struck a Hezbollah rocket launcher in Marwahin and an observation post in Houla.

[IsraelTimes] Partial gag-order on details of case involving three Israeli civilians; two released under restrictive conditions, third to be held until end of legal proceedings
Three Israeli civilians, who are not members of any security forces, were recently detained on suspicion of killing a Paleostinian man on October 7 and stealing weaponry from Israeli troops, police revealed for publication on Thursday.
While the specifics of the incident have been barred from publication due to a court-issued gag order, details were partially reported by Hebrew media, much of it unsourced, after the Tel Aviv District Court partially lifted the order. Alleged details of the case have varied in several Hebrew media reports.
According to reports, on October 7 — as thousands of Hamas ..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,... -led holy warriors stormed southern Israel in a shock assault — the three suspects made their way to the Gazoo

According to Walla, the chief suspect, who is still detained, is alleged to have seized a Paleostinian whom he identified as an operative in Hamas’s elite Nukhba force, interrogated him, and executed him at the end of the interrogation.
According to reports, the suspect has said he never seized or interrogated a Paleostinian, and maintains that the alleged terrorist was alive when he transferred him to security forces.
Ynet reported that two of the three suspects arrived at the front lines unarmed and stole weapons from the bodies of slain IDF soldiers. One of the suspects was reportedly also connected to a separate case in which a man was charged with stealing weapons from IDF bases in the aftermath of October 7 by impersonating other people.
Of the three suspects connected to the suspected murder of a Paleostinian man, one is being held until the end of legal proceedings for weapon offenses, while the other two were released under "restrictive conditions," police said on Thursday evening.
The police statement came after the Tel Aviv District Court partially lifted the gag order on the case that had been in place for several weeks.
Hebrew media reported that the still-detained suspect had requested the gag order be removed, a decision opposed by the Israel Police, which intends to petition the High Court to restore the order.
Police have also reportedly petitioned the High Court to re-arrest the other two suspects after the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court ordered their release, and the District Court rejected the police appeal on the matter.
Outside the Tel Aviv District Court on Thursday, protesters rallied in favor of the suspects, whom they commended for what they called the three individuals’ bravery on October 7, Ynet reported.
Far-right politician Almog Cohen, of the Otzma Yehudit party, who has for months called for the case to be made public, welcomed the court’s decision, saying the prosecutor was making a "perverted use of its authority" in requesting the gag order on the details of the case.
In a post on X, Cohen referred to one of the suspects — whom security forces have strongly denied No, no! Certainly not! was on any active duty on October 7 — as a "warrior who jumped into action on October 7 and saved lives."
[IsraelTimes] Troops surround home in northern West Bank where pair behind killing of Cpt. Alon Sacgiu were holed up; four armed men killed in drone strike amid operation
Seven Paleostinian button men, including members of a cell behind a deadly roadside kabooming attack last week, were killed in a dronezap and in festivities with troops in the northern West Bank city of Jenin on Friday morning, the Israeli military said.
The Israel Defense Forces said troops of the Duvedevan commando unit and Kfir Brigade’s Haruv reconnaissance unit raided Jenin following intelligence provided by the Shin Bet on the location of the cell that killed Cpt. Alon Sacgiu and maimed 16 other soldiers on June 27.
The special forces encircled a building in Jenin where Hammam Hashash, 23, and his brother Harith Hashash, 19, — who according to the IDF were behind the roadside kaboom — were holed up, and carried out a tactic known as "pressure cooker" that involves escalating the volume of fire directed at a building to force suspects to come out.
The soldiers fired several shoulder-launched missiles at the building and exchanged fire with the two button men, a military source said.
The pair were eventually killed in the festivities, the IDF said.
A third member of the roadside kaboom cell was killed by Border Police troops in Jenin on Wednesday, according to the military.
Separately, amid the operation, the IDF said the troops clashed with other terror operatives, and a dronezap was carried out against a cell of four button men that was identified in the area.
The IDF published footage of the dronezap. Since October 7, the IDF has carried out some 55 Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s in the West Bank, using drones, attack helicopters, and fighter jets. Those strikes have killed more than 90 terror operatives, and dozens more were maimed, according to the military.
In all, seven Paleostinian button men were killed in the operation on Friday — including two in the building, four in the airstrike, and another gunman in festivities — according to the IDF.
The Paleostinian Authority health ministry also reported seven dead.
In addition to the Hashash brothers, the other five men were named by the ministry as Ahmed Amouri, 20, Qusay Hazouz, 23, Fouad Ashqar, 25, Yassin al-Aridi, 30 and Muhammad Jabareen, 54.
Images posted to social media showed some of the men brandishing assault rifles, indicating they were members of local terror groups in Jenin. Another picture of al-Aridi’s body showed him wearing a headband with the logo of Hamas ..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,... ’s military wing.
Since October 7, troops have arrested some 4,200 wanted Paleostinians across the West Bank, including more than 1,750 affiliated with Hamas.
According to the Paleostinian Authority health ministry, more than 560 West Bank Paleostinians have been killed in that time. The IDF says the vast majority of them were button men killed during raids or hard boyz carrying out attacks.
During the same period, 22 Israelis, including security personnel, have been killed in terror attacks in Israel and the West Bank. Another five members of the security forces were killed in festivities with terror operatives in the West Bank.
[An Nahar] Hezbollah Chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah met Friday with a delegation from Hamas headed by Khalil al Hayyeh.
Nasrallah and the delegation discussed the latest developments in Gaza and on the other "support fronts" in Lebanon, Yemen and Iraq, a Hezbollah statement said.
The two parties also discussed the ongoing truce negotiations and reaffirmed their willingness to maintain their political and military coordination in order to achieve their goals.
