[FoxNews] The 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals wrote that Oregon's public defense system is a 'Sixth Amendment nightmare'
A perfect match for their Soros DAs.
A federal appeals court upheld a ruling that defendants in Oregon who have been in jail for more than seven days without a defense attorney must be released from custody.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals wrote in its 2-1 decision on Friday that Oregon's public defense system is a "Sixth Amendment nightmare," referring to the part of the U.S. Constitution that guarantees people accused of crimes the right to a lawyer, OPB reported.
The court emphasized that Oregon is responsible for ensuring legal protections for criminal defendants.
Oregon, for years, has failed to provide public defenders for criminal defendants who need them amid its public defender crisis. As of Friday, more than 3,200 defendants did not have a public defender, according to data from the Oregon Judicial Department. Among those defendants, about 146 people were in custody, although a smaller number were expected to be impacted by Friday’s ruling, according to OPB.
In March, a draft report from the Office of Public Defense Services found that Oregon needs 500 more attorneys to meet its obligations, according to OPB. State officials have attempted to address the issue, as well as providing additional funding, but structural issues still persist.
Some changes are currently in progress, including hiring the first trial-level public defenders who are also state employees. And next year, the Oregon Public Defense Commission will move from the judiciary to the executive branch under the governor, a move state lawmakers hope will give the agency more support.
The 9th Circuit's decision upheld a preliminary injunction issued last year by U.S. District Court Judge Michael McShane after 10 people in Washington County who were charged with crimes and held at the county jail while not having court-appointed attorneys filed a class action habeas corpus petition through the state’s federal public defender's office.
[FoxNews] Two teens are in custody while police in Oklahoma City are searching for several more teens involved in a brutal attack on a homeless man who was left for dead, according to a report.
According to court documents obtained by KFOR, a homeless man identified as Tilman Shannon was jumped and nearly beaten to death by a large group of teens on May 26.
Surveillance video captured the whole ordeal and revealed several teens yelling and threatening Shannon from a vehicle.
Shannon is seen trying to run away but is beaten down near the dumpster at the opposite end of the parking lot.
Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Dillion Quirk told KFOR that the most disturbing actions from the attack were found on social media as one of the alleged suspects, Veronica Benavente, 19, streamed the attack on her Instagram page.
An arrest affidavit reportedly said Benavente was heard yelling racist slurs and racist expletives at Shannon as the group carried out the beating.
Police said about nine teens were involved in the attack.
Quirk told KFOR that the teens savagely pulled Shannon's colostomy bag out.
Police told KFOR that Shannon was taken to a local hospital with severe injuries but is expected to survive.
"That is disgusting," Mike Martin, a resident who has lived near the area of the attack for decades, told KFOR. "It’s not that common, but there are a lot of gangs around here."
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A motorist was viciously attacked in his car by a group of men who punched him in the head a dozen times before a woman poured liquid on him.
The man was ambushed on U Street in downtown Washington, D.C., as he was stuck in traffic on Wednesday night.
He was prevented from leaving by people standing in front of his car as one of the attackers pulled open the door and started punching him.

[Historic UK] In wartime, the line between outstanding bravery and outright folly is finely drawn. So too is the line between taking the initiative in battle and taking unacceptable risks. On the whole, survival is the sole judge of which of the two it is.
Jack Churchill (1906 — 1996), sometimes known as "Fighting Jack" or "Mad Jack" Churchill is an outstanding example of how some individual officers fought World War Two in their own way and on their own terms, and succeeded. He led from the front, and his unique skills and boldness contributed to his own survival and that of his troops.
His frequently quoted motto gives a clue to his attitude: "Any officer who goes into action without his sword is improperly dressed". Jack Churchill also added bagpipes and a bow and arrows to his prerequisites for battle.
Churchill was born in 1906 into a background that was very typical for the period. His father held senior administrative and engineering posts in the colonial service, being based at various times in Ceylon and Hong Kong. The family was back in England at Dormansland, Surrey, at the time of Jack’s birth. Although his father’s family came from Oxfordshire, his name, like that of his younger brothers, reflects ancestry on the Anglo-Scottish border and in the Highlands: he was christened John Malcolm Thorpe Fleming Churchill.
Jack and his brothers, Thomas Bell Lindsay Churchill (1907—1990) and Robert Alec Farquhar Churchill (1911 — 1942) would all achieve fame through their exploits in WWII. Like Jack, Tom joined the Manchester Regiment and then the Commandos, becoming a Major-General; youngest brother Robert (’Buster’) became a Royal Navy Lieutenant, serving in the Fleet Air Arm. He died in action in 1942.
Jack Churchill was educated at the Dragon School Oxford, King William’s College on the Isle of Man and Sandhurst. In 1926 he was commissioned into the 2nd Battalion, the Manchester Regiment. The start of an adventurous career began when he joined his battalion in Rangoon and was sent to do a signals course in Poona.
On completion, he drove a Zenith motorcycle 1,500 miles across the Indian subcontinent, crashing into a water buffalo at one point. In Burma, he used to cross railway bridges that had open sleepers by stepping onto the sleepers and pushing his bike along the rails.
While with his regiment he became an excellent bagpipe player under the tutorship of the Pipe Major of the Cameron Highlanders. He was also awarded the first of his service medals: the Indian General Service Medal with Burma Clasp.
Back in England, army life seemed dull and Churchill left in order to travel and build a career as an actor and entertainer. He is said to have had a role in the 1924 film "The Thief of Baghdad", in which he showed off his archery skills. He also represented Great Britain in Norway at the World Archery Championships in 1939.
When war broke out, having remained on the reserve officer list, he was recalled to the colours. His regiment was part of the Expeditionary Force to France. Churchill used his bow and arrows while on patrol, knowing that the bow was an extraordinarily effective weapon in skilled hands as it was silent and accurate up to 200 yards.
When his company was trapped after the Battle of l’Epinette (near Bethune), Churchill killed the first approaching Nazi soldier with his longbow, then used two machine guns to fight back until they ran out of ammunition. He managed to get the remainder of his company to safety by leading them through the enemy lines at night, despite being shot in the shoulder.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A wildfire in Tracy, California is raging and has already burned some 11,000 acres across the West coast state, and forced the evacuation of thousands.
The Corral Fire was first reported on Saturday afternoon at around 2.30pm. By around midnight, the fire was just 13 percent contained, according to the California Fire department.
The fire, which is being driven quickly by wind, jumped Interstate 580, prompting evacuation orders for the communities east of the major artery.
Evacuation orders extended to the Tracy Golf and Country Club, as well as the Tesla Treatment Facility.
At least two firefighters have been injured attempting to contain the blaze, according to the Santa Clara California Fire Unit. Both were hospitalized with minor to moderate burns.
The fire reportedly began at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Site 300 on the border of San Joaquin and Alameda counties.
Site 300 is home to facilities that support the development of explosive materials, as well as hydrodynamic testing.
Those running the site assess the operational ability of non-nuclear weapon components, and test new conventional explosives to potentially add to the nuclear stockpile.
Overnight winds of up to 40mph were expected to continue spreading the fire.
At present, it remains unclear how the blaze began - the investigation into its origins is ongoing.
The Tracy Police Department said firefighters will do a controlled burn near Tracy Hills, which is just below the area that's been evacuated.
A controlled burn was previously scheduled for May 28 at the Site 300 lab - the LA Times reports that no controlled burns were conducted Saturday.
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. reported two fire-related power outages Saturday evening.
The first occurred because Cal Fire requested that energy be cut to several lines to ensure the safety of their firefighters. That outage hit roughly 1,600 people.
The second, which impacted about 2,350 customers, was caused by damage to PG&E equipment.
By late Saturday evening, power was restored to all but about 200 customers.

Wildfires are unprecedented in the California hills. Except during the hot, dry summer months when the dry grass catches fire and the eucalyptus trees burn like they were soaked in kerosene.
No natural enemies and lots of wildfires. As I recall, back home in Australia they’d evolved to need wildfires to open the seed cases so the seeds could germinate
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] How the most unlucky aircraft carrier in the US fleet - from its jinxed captain to hungover pilots, fatal fires and even a disaster involving missing dentures - became an unlikely war hero (despite its R-rated logo). Then she was the only US aircraft carrier to witness Japanese surrender in 1945.
But her beginnings were far from heroic – named for a little-known battle fought in a field full of cows during the Revolutionary War, and with a somewhat explicit bull logo that had to be painted over every time they got to port lest it 'upset the civilians'.
Everyone who served aboard her knew it was ridiculous — but they latched onto the name with enthusiasm. And soon, some unknown wit coined the nickname she carried throughout her career: The Mighty Moo.

"Some sort of commotion over in the colonies. Might as well be the damn Balkans!"
I read the stories about "bad luck" and I see a bunch of guys taking what they were given in a bad situation and trying their best to make something of it. Pretty heroic, in my book.

From Skidmark’s BBC link:
Prior to running for president, Ms Sheinbaum was mayor of Mexico City, one of the most influential political positions in the country and one that is seen as paving the way for the presidency.
Ms Sheinbaum, whose Jewish maternal grandparents immigrated to Mexico from Bulgaria fleeing the Nazis, had an illustrious career as a scientist before delving into politics. Her paternal grandparents hailed from Lithuania.
Both of her parents were scientists and Ms Sheinbaum studied physics before going on to receive a doctorate in energy engineering.
She spent years at a renowned research lab in California studying Mexican energy consumption patterns and became an expert on climate change.
That experience and her student activism eventually earned her the position of secretary of the environment for Mexico City at the time when Andrés Manuel López Obrador was mayor of the capital.
In 2018 she became the first female mayor of Mexico City, a post she held until 2023, when she stepped down to run for president.
I'm 59 years of age. The study of 'climate science' has been around for about that same period of time. Even last week yet another negative impact on local climates by 'clean energy' has been identified, but the same 'climate experts' will insist despite such evidence that they can still 'save the planet' or some such codswallop.
Prediction - this broad's going to be an unmitigated disaster.

Interestingly Sheinbaum's success will in large part depend on Mexico's success in increasing oil production.
Back in 2000-2010 Mexico was producing about 3M b/day but this had fallen to below 2M by 2020 and hasn't risen since. If Mexico would de nationalize Pen Mex they would probably get back to 3M b/day in 5 years or so but doing this isn't likely given the politics. The best that Mexico could realistically do is grant more leases to private companies (they started doing this a few years ago).

Not just in Mexico, Skidmark. Even in five-star hotels in the Third World, avoiding tap water is wise. Mr. Wife told of sticking to bottled — but only if he broke the seal himself — or something with alcohol. When he got amoebic dysentery in Bombay, he assumed he’d caught it from breathing the dust in the air — he’d only just got off the airplane, and hadn’t yet had anything to eat or drink.
[GEO.TV] The Pakistain's polio ...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set. Currently the disease is only found in Pakistain and Afghanistain... program on Saturday announced another child being paralysed by the wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) in Shikarpur district of Sindh, bringing the total number of cases in the country this year to four.
The regional reference laboratory for polio eradication at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad notified that WPV1 was detected from stool samples collected from a 2.5-year-old child from Birkhan Union Council (UC) of Shikarpur.
On the other hand, Polio Eradication Programme’s national coordinator Dr Shahzad Baig stepped down from his post due to "personal reasons".
Meanwhile,
...back at the argument, Livia grabbed for Jane's hair to make her point. Jane elbowed her in the face in rebuttal... health authorities assigned the work of the coordinator of the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) for polio eradication to the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination (NHS, R&C) Joint Secretary Captain (retd) Anwar-ul-Haq, in addition to his own duties with immediate effect until further notice.
Providing details about the fourth polio case, the program officials stated that the child had onset paralysis on May 11. Genetic sequencing of the virus isolated from his samples revealed that it is genetically linked to the imported YB3A cluster.
This genetic cluster disappeared from Pakistain in mid-2021 but remained in circulation in Afghanistan. It was reintroduced in Pakistain following cross-border transmission last year.
It is worth mentioning here that it is the first polio case from Sindh this year as earlier three cases have been reported from the Dera Bugti, Chaman and Killa Abdullah areas of Balochistan.
[GEO.TV] To counter the menace of professional begging, the Punjab government has decided to establish special barracks across the province’s jails where beggar mafia chiefs will be imprisoned.
The Punjab Home Department announced the establishment of designated barracks for beggar mafia chiefs in jails across the province.
This initiative follows the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif ...served two three non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts... and represents a significant step in the province's crackdown on organised begging.
According to a spokesperson on Sunday, each barrack in the first phase can accommodate between 100 to 200 individuals.
The number of these specialised barracks will be increased as necessary, particularly in larger cities where the issue is more prevalent.
In addition to these logistical changes, the Punjab Home Department is also drafting legislation to impose stricter penalties on leaders of the beggar mafia.
The proposed law will target those involved in the kidnapping and coercion of children, imposing severe penalties on those found guilty.
This amendment aims to ensure that those who exploit innocent children and women for professional begging face significant legal consequences.
The spokesperson emphasised that the government is committed to eradicating the beggar mafia from the province.

[Breitbart] Global elites representing the upper echelons of power in politics, banking, big tech, media, industry, and academia converged this week in Madrid, Spain to discuss Artificial Intelligence, the “future of warfare”, and more at the shadowy Bilderberg Meeting as the “off the record” conference turns 70 years old.
Founded in 1954 with a meeting hosted by Prince Bernhard of The Netherlands in the Hotel de Bilderberg in the Dutch village of Oosterbeek, the annual meeting of the Bilderberg Group is believed to be a driving force behind numerous globalist projects.
Unlike similar institutions such as the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Bilderberg Meeting is conducted strictly behind closed doors with participants bound by the Chatham House Rule, which prohibits the disclosure of the identity of those behind any idea mentioned within the meeting. Officially intended to allow for the free flow of discourse, the back-room nature of the meeting of global elites has fostered many theories about the influence the conference may exert on international policy.
This belief is perhaps not without merit. A 2023 study from Lukas Kantor of Prague’s Charles University found that at least 133 politicians were elevated to positions of power after attending a Bilderberg Meeting, including former U.S. President Bill Clinton, ex-German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and current French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to Kantor, at least 42 participants became either prime ministers, presidents, or the top officials of international organisations such as the European Union, NATO or the International Monetary Fund (IMF). While he acknowledged that most participants were never elevated to a top political position, Kantor said that it is likely that “politicians invited to the exclusive meetings gain valuable contacts, insider information and probably some backing”.
“From 2019 to 2023, all key international organizations—EU, NATO, IMF, and UN—have been chaired by Bilderbergers (Ursula von der Leyen, Jens Stoltenberg, Kristalina Georgieva and Antonio Guterres). It seems improbable that this is just a coincidence,” Kantor wrote.
Alinsky said make them live up to their own ideals. Not that this was an ideal so much as a lie to placate the oppressed.
[Rudaw] A Christian woman whose mother converted to Islam when she was 15 was told by Iraqi authorities that she and her children should also convert.
Iraq’s Personal Status Law, passed in 1959, stipulates that if a parent converts to Islam, their children who are under 18 should also adopt the new faith.
Evlin Joseph, a Christian woman who lives in Duhok, said she was not aware of the regulation until recently.
"I am Christian. I am married to a Christian man. I have three Christian kids. My education was in our language. All my official documents are Christian. Our marriage is registered by the Church," she said.
Joseph’s parents divorced when she was 15. Her mother later married a Moslem man and converted to Islam.
"When I wanted to obtain my national ID card. They told me that my mother is Moslem and therefore I have to go to court," she said.
Sami Patros, Joseph’s husband, said the regulation affects their entire family.
At the national ID card office, "they said your mother-in-law had converted to Islam and therefore they said your wife should become Moslem, too. This also applies to my children, their religion should be changed from Christianity to Islam," he said.
Akram Mikhail, a lawyer who has represented many Christian cases in the courts, said he has seen many cases similar to Joseph’s and he believes the law contradicts the tenets of Islam.
"This forces someone to convert to Islam, with force. I am not an expert in Islam, but it is in Islam that one cannot force the religion onto others," he said.
The law also stipulates that if one spouse converts to Islam, then Sharia law is applicable. This means that Joseph does not have the right to marry a Christian man. The law also is applied to inheritance and custody.
Last week, the Catholic University in Erbil held a conference on the Personal Status Law. Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani attended and offered his support to the rights of the Christians in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
Christians from across the wider Middle East region also attended.
Khaldun Saelayte, who came from Jordan, said Christians in Iraq are not given their full religious rights and he called on the authorities to enact a personal status law for Chistians.
Mohammed Nuqal, from Leb ...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers... , pointed out that unlike Iraq, Christians in Lebanon, Jordan and Syria have their own personal status law.
The conference concluded with several recommendations, including calling on Christian leaders to draft reforms to the Personal Status Law.
