People lived on necular submarines were exposed to fast neutrons. I remember studying in the nuclear reactor tunnel from missile to engine room because it was the only warm spot on the ship. Around 68 it was banned because of fast neutrons.

Open stores didn't exist in the 19th century. All goods were kept behind the counter and in the back room. What is old is new again. You get what you tolerate.

This is the same chain called Target that was pushing a woke agenda last year, IIRC.
Not sure what this guy's point was in the video. He's talking "lack of trust". Well, the store is probably between a rock and a hard place....get robbed blind daily or close the store and face the incessant rants of racism from California politicians.
I loathe Target, but if it wants to secure its items on display, then that is their business.

Target is just Walmart for people who think they're too good to be seen in Walmart.

Or K-Mart, or Woolworth's, whatever some people don't have a choice but to shop at Highlander's. P2K is right.
I was at blah blah blah, and the only way to access the interior of the business was by elevator. Multi floor elevator. I presume so security could lock the elevator if they had a question.
A very hard looking 'doorman' advised me that to come and go without concern would get my robbed right over there, where there would be no help.
[Breitbart] A billionaire from Ohio plans to take a $20 million sub to visit the ill-fated Titanic as a means to prove that the industry is now safe following the tragic OceanGate implosion last year.
Larry Connor, a real estate investor, told the Wall Street Journal he will partner with Triton Submarines co-founder Patrick Lahey to take a two-person submersible all the way down to the Titanic in hopes of demonstrating that the ocean can be a "wonderful and enjoyable" place.
"I want to show people worldwide that while the ocean is extremely powerful, it can be wonderful and enjoyable and really kind of life-changing if you go about it the right way," Connor said. "I want to show people...."
The Triton Submarine vessel, the Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer, cost $20 million to create.
"Patrick has been thinking about and designing this for over a decade. But we didn’t have the materials and technology," Connor said. "You couldn’t have built this sub five years ago."

Visit Duck, the ride is considerably cheaper and you won't have to eat crab cakes from a tube.

See, I loved the whole Oceangate thing. I love those events where we can all get together and have a good laugh at hubris. An oh-so-smart billionaire goes way beyond his area of expertise and gets himself (and his son) killed in a poorly made vehicle whose construction he supervised personally.

[AFRICANEWS] Floodwaters flowed through the Somali town of Beledweyne on Sunday after heavy rains pounding East Africa caused the Shebelle River to burst its banks.
The inhabitants of Beledweyne, situated in the heart of Somalia, have used the river as a lifeline for generations.
But with the onset of severe seasonal rains, the overflowing Shebelle brought a deluge which engulfed the town.
Footage showed homes left partly submerged, compelling families to seek refuge in higher areas as the floodwaters surged through the streets.
Ali Abdi Yusuf, a lifelong resident of Beledweyne, said multiple neighborhoods had been severely impacted.
The Somali government had preemptively issued warnings about the torrential rains urging residents to flee to higher ground.

[GEO.TV] A massive landslide in Papua New Guinea is feared to have buried over 2,000 people alive in a remote highland village, the African nation's government said on Monday. Karma for eating Biden's Uncle Bosie
The Papua New Guinea government has pleaded for international help in the rescue effort after hillside community in Enga province was almost wiped a chunk of Mount Mungalo collapsed in the early hours of last Friday.
The deadly landslide smothered scores of homes and the people sleeping inside them.
The landslip was continuing to "shift slowly, posing ongoing danger to both the rescue teams and survivors alike", the disaster centre said.
The scale of the catastrophe required "immediate and collaborative actions from all players", it added, including the army, and national and provincial responders.
The centre also called on the UN to inform Papua New Guinea's development partners "and other international friends" of the crisis.
[Epoch Times] The Supreme Court agreed on May 28 to hear San Francisco’s appeal of a federal appeals court ruling that allows the EPA to issue discharge permits that order cities not to pollute water bodies "too much" but do not provide a specific limitation.
The issue is whether the Environmental Protection Agency or states are allowed to impose generic prohibitions that subject permit-holders to enforcement for running afoul of water quality standards without identifying the specific limits to which the discharges are supposed to conform.
The petition for certiorari, or review, in City and County of San Francisco v. Environmental Protection Agency, was granted in an unsigned order. Oral argument in the case is expected to be heard in the Supreme Court’s new term that begins in October.

Something about washing tons of untreated human waste from your streets?
[AFRICANEWS] Nigeria's government is cracking down on illegal mining, making dozens of arrests since April for unlicensed miners allegedly stealing lithium, a critical mineral used in batteries for electric vehicles, smartphones, and power systems.
The crackdown comes as Nigeria seeks to regulate its mining operations, curb illegal activity, and better benefit from its mineral resources. The global demand for lithium has surged due to the clean energy transition. However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth... corruption and minimal government presence in remote areas have led to rampant illegal mining, which has fueled militia groups in the north.
In mid-May, a joint team of soldiers and police raided a market in Kishi, Oyo State, arresting 32 individuals, including two Chinese nationals. The market, once known for farm produce, had become a hub for illicit lithium trade. Community leader Jimoh Bioku reported clandestine searches for lithium by Chinese nationals, who then engaged locals to mine for them, turning the market into a transit point.
President Bola Tinubu has blamed illegal mining for worsening conflicts in the north and called for international help to stop it. The Chinese embassy in Abuja has not commented on the arrests, but previously urged Chinese nationals to abide by Nigerian laws.

But at least everyone but the elite are still starving, so they have that going for them
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] North Korea ...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche... said its attempt to launch a second spy satellite failed when the rocket carrying it went kaboom! shortly after takeoff on Monday.
The state-run Korean Central News Agency said the rocket went kaboom! during a first-stage flight because of a possible engine malfunction, the News Agency that Dare Not be Named reported. The hermit nation is also exploring other possible causes of the failure.
The launch came as leaders of South Korea, China, and Japan met in South Korea. The gathering is the first time in four years that the three countries have held a trilateral meeting.
North Korea’s claims about its satellite launches have been met with skepticism from the United States and its allies, who contend that the launches are a guise for testing long-range ballistic missiles.
Japan briefly issued a missile warning for part of Okinawa on Monday because of the attempted launch
Some observers say that North Korea's satellite launch on the first day of its eight-day window might have been aimed at casting a chill over the Seoul-Beijing-Tokyo meeting and registering its displeasure with China. Kim Jong Un has been embracing the idea of a “new Cold War” and seeking to boost ties with Beijing and Moscow to forge a united front against Washington, so China's diplomacy with Seoul and Tokyo might have been a disturbing development for Pyongyang.
Kim’s primary focus in recent months has been on Russia, as Pyongyang and Moscow — both locked in confrontations with Washington — expand their military cooperation. China, which is much more sensitive about its international reputation, has joined Russia in blocking U.S.-led efforts at the U.N. Security Council to tighten sanctions on the North but has been less bold and open about supporting Kim's “new Cold War” drive.
The failed satellite launch is a blow to Kim's plan to launch three more military spy satellites in 2024 in addition to his country's first military reconnaissance satellite that was placed in orbit last November.
The November launch followed two failed liftoffs.
In the first attempt, the North Korean rocket carrying the satellite crashed into the ocean soon after liftoff. After the second attempt, North Korea said there was an error in the emergency blasting system during the third-stage flight.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said Monday it detected a launch trajectory believed to be of a spy satellite fired from the North’s main space center at 10:44 p.m. on Monday. Four minutes later, many fragments were spotted in the waters, it said.

[Regnum] The United States constantly talks about a rules-based international order, while itself constantly undermining it and violating the rules, writes Gideon Rahman, chief foreign affairs columnist for the Financial Times.
The expert noted that “US Secretary of State Antony Blinken likes to appeal to a rules-based world order... Blinken says the United States advocates a world order based on rules, not pure power, but America’s own actions undermine vital parts of the rules-based world order.”
Rahman argues that events over the past few weeks have further demonstrated Washington's abuses. On May 14, 2024, President of the United States of America Joe Biden announced a sharp increase in duties on goods from China. Tariffs on imports of computer chips, solar panels, steel, aluminum and electric cars will quadruple. This decision in Washington was explained by “protecting American businesses from unfair trade practices” of China. According to Rahman, Biden's decision is contrary to international trade rules. The journalist also notes that in many countries, US statements about a fair world order are “treated with ridicule.”
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin said that the US monopoly does not suit the vast majority of countries. He also noted that the US authorities are trying to establish a world order based on “certain rules,” but “no one has ever written them and no one has ever coordinated them with anyone.” The head of state has repeatedly emphasized that international law exists, and decisions must be made on its basis.
On April 18, Regnum news agency reported that the Chinese authorities promised to take the necessary measures if the United States decides to impose additional sanctions against Chinese companies. Also, the press secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, Liu Pengyu, denied the American side’s claims that China is providing military support to Russia.

Police said the suspect was arrested in a raid, while more raids were being conducted to catch the other suspects involved in the child marriage.
It should be noted that it is illegal in Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by the Sharif family
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots.... to marry before the age of 16. Yet, child marriages are prevalent in the province.

"the majority religion of Punjab is Sikhism. The data suggests that Sikhism is practiced by 16 million people, representing 57.69% of the population of Punjab. This makes Punjab the only Sikh-majority state in India."

I remember fondly using an Air Guard RF-4C in support of Counter-Drug operations looking for a huge underground grow site in the rural California Central Valley. We had them fly a suspected area using both Visual Camera and FLIR systems. The side by side film images afterwards showed a plain field with a small shed, and a well defined drive-up path to it. The InfraRed showed a huge heat plume from the shed, the out-gassing for the massive sunlamp heat from a basketball sized underground grow site with hundreds of high grade hydroponic sativa plants. Military support to civil authorities at its finest!

Synthetic Aperture Radar can see some incredible details, even below the surface. Things like missile silos, revetment tunnels, and submarines running shallow.
One of the basic limitations is caused by the microwave wavelength being unable to resolve smaller objects.
