[MSN] Israel’s Ambassador to Berlin, Ron Prosor, was rebuffed by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s government on Wednesday after the envoy made a dramatic appeal on X, formerly Twitter, to the Federal government to reject the ICC’s legitimacy fully.
Scholz’s spokesman, Steffen Hebestreit, was asked on Wednesday if the German government would execute an ICC arrest order against Prime Minister Netanyahu for alleged war crimes during Swords of Iron.
Hebestreit said, "Of course. Yes, we abide by the law."
On Tuesday, before Hebestreit’s announcement, Prosor wrote on X in both German and English, “This is outrageous! The German 'Staatsräson' is now being put to the test—no ifs or buts. This contrasts with the weak statements we hear from some institutions and political actors. The public statement that Israel has the right to self-defense loses credibility if our hands are tied as soon as we defend ourselves.”
Staatsräson is the German word that refers to Germany's pledge to ensure Israel’s security is part of its national security and interests. Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel declared during her 2008 Knesset speech that Israel is part of Germany’s raison d'etre—or state of being.

So, having a diplomatic passport, protected by international law, is not protection from international law. Interesting.

The ICC does not have universal jurisdiction. Rather, it can only exercise its jurisdiction in cases involving crimes under international law committed on the territory of or by a national of a state party.
Israel is not a state party to the ICC. However, Palestine declared its accession to the ICC Statute on January 2, 2015. Against the backdrop of Palestine's disputed statehood, the question of whether Palestine has thus become a state party to the Statute harbors considerable potential for discussion.
According to a decision by Pre-Trial Chamber I of the ICC in 2021, the accession is effective in view of Palestine's status as a "non-member observer state" of the United Nations and the so-called "all states" clause contained in Art. 125 para. 3 of the ICC Statute. Palestine is therefore considered a state for the purposes of the ICC Statute (and only for these purposes). This means that acts committed on Palestinian territory (Gaza, West Bank, East Jerusalem) are subject to the jurisdiction of the ICC, including those committed by nationals of the non-party state of Israel. The same applies to acts committed by Palestinians, including those committed on the territory of Israel, which is not a party to the treaty.
However, the decision of the Pre-Trial Chamber was only made by a 2:1 majority at the time. It is not binding. Accordingly, the question of Palestine's status as a state party may once again become important in further proceedings.

The accusation that Netanyahu and Gallant are suspected of having committed a crime against humanity is very far-reaching. This offence refers to the targeting of an identifiable group or community with a discriminatory motivation, namely for "political, racial, national, ethnic, cultural or religious reasons, reasons of sex [...] or other reasons universally recognized as impermissible under international law [...]". The prosecutor claims the Palestinian civilian population is attacked on the basis of their status as Palestinians. Yet the prosecutor refrains from giving any reasons in this regard in his statement.
Short version: Ideological nonsense.

I might add: The ICC has no business with Israel because Israel is a democracy (the only one in the Middle East) with a functioning judiciary that would prosecute war crimes committed by Israelis if there were any. And of course countries must be given due time to do that, and certainly not in the middle of a war.
The ICC was meant to prosecute war crimes that are not prosecuted nationally. Later. Much later.
This is all nonsense. Of course the current German government won't say so. And I despise them for this cowardice.
So much easier to say: Oh, we just follow international law. The correct answer would be to leave the jurisdiction of the ICC because it's become an ideological tool. Or always has been.

Answer is simple, declare the ICC a terrorist organization, kill off all the so called judges and prosecutors. MAKE IT PERSONAL. These twits need to learn real consequences for being minions of evil.
[IsraelNationalNews] The police chief at the University of California, Los Angeles, has been reassigned following criticism over his handling of recent campus demonstrations that included a mob attacking a pro-Palestinian Arab encampment, The Associated Press reported on Wednesday. Eh?
Chief John Thomas was temporarily reassigned Tuesday "pending an examination of our security processes," said Mary Osako, UCLA vice chancellor for strategic communications, in a statement released Wednesday.
The Daily Bruin reported late Tuesday that Thomas said in a text to the campus newspaper, "There’s been a lot going on and, I learned late yesterday that I’m temporarily reassigned from my duties as chief."
Neither Osako nor Thomas identified his reassigned role.
The reassignment of Thomas follows UCLA’s May 5 announcement of the creation of a new chief safety officer position to oversee campus security operations.
Sporadic disruptions continued following the dismantling of a pro-Palestinian Arab encampment and some 200 arrests on April 30.
[FoxNews] A federal judge on Wednesday temporarily halted enforcement of a Florida law that makes it a crime to transport illegal immigrants into the state.
The law, which Gov. Ron DeSantis signed in 2023, in part amends human smuggling statutes to make it a felony to bring individuals without lawful immigration status into Florida.
U.S. District Judge Roy Altman issued a temporary injunction against that provision and in his decision cited testimony from plaintiffs that they were "now too afraid to travel in and out of Florida with their undocumented friends or family members - for fear of being arrested or prosecuted or of having their family members deported."
Altman, who was appointed by former President Trump, blocked the law while a lawsuit brought by the Farmworker Association of Florida and several people who say they were impacted works its way through court.

[FoxNews] The measure now heads to the GOP-controlled House and will end up on the Nov. 5 ballot if passed by the legislature
Arizona senators narrowly approved a proposed ballot measure on Wednesday that would give local law enforcement the authority to arrest people who illegally cross the US-Mexico border into the state.
The proposal, which passed along party lines by a 16-13 vote, would make it a state crime for illegal migrants to enter Arizona from Mexico at any location other than a port of entry – therefore allowing local and state police to arrest them.
It would also allow state judges to send those convicted of the crime, which would be punishable by up to six months in jail for the first offense, back to their country of origin after completing their sentence. Judges could also dismiss a pending charge if the person agrees to return to their home country.
[FoxNews] The State Department blocked arrests of several individuals suspected of aiding Iran's nuclear program as the Obama administration was negotiating the JCPOA.

[HotAir] Plotting may be a bit strong, but not much. According to an report from Middle East Eye, the US was in secret negotiations with Iran, discussing, among other things, their shared desire for a different government in Israel.
The US and Iran were discussing changing Israel's government. Biden thinks the US shares an interest regarding Israel.
The talks have naturally been put on hold since the helicopter crash that killed both Iran's president and foreign minister. It's hard to make "progress" when your interlocutors are dead.
