[ShabelleMedia] The National Intelligence and Security Agency [NISA] said it detained eight people in connection with the al-Qaeda-linked bully boy group, al-Shabaab ... the personification of Somali state failure... In a statement, NISA said the suspects were traveling in a car that was intercepted in Afgoye, 30 kilometers west of Mogadishu while transporting electronics to al-Shabaab.
A Ugandan is said to be among the captured men, who are now in NISA custody for interrogation. They will appear in military court in Mogadishu, according to the reports.
NISA stepped up a crackdown on al-Shabaab sleeping cells in the government-controlled towns in Somalia, a move that decreased dramatically the boom-mobileings in Mogadishu.
A pretty good return on the investment, it seems to me.
Al-Shabaab has faced a multi-front offensive from the Somali army backed by clan militias and the US military since last year after the government launched a re-liberation campaign.
"Security forces in Afgoye nab suspected Al-Shabaab affiliates carrying laptops and solar panels. Ugandan national among 8 detained," state media reports.
Al-Shabaab has been seeking services from foreigners who bring expertise to the team, including bomb-making and detonation.
The Turkish intelligence and the Turkish National Police captured ISIS operatives Majbal Al Shuwayhi (“Abu Yakeen Al Iraqi”), Mohammad Helaf Ibrahim (“Abu Lais”) and Iyhab Alani (“Abdullah Al Jumaili”) as well as 29 people who were in contact with them.
... The Ottoman Turkish intelligence (MIT) established that al-Shuwayhi, the chief intelligence officer of Salman-e Farisi Brigade (DAESH group in Turkiye) and Abu Lais were plotting an attack against synagogues and churches in Turkiye.
Al Jumaili, in turn, was planning to attack the Iraqi Embassy in Ankara.
All 29 suspects were taken into custody earlier today in coordinated raids across nine Ottoman Turkish provinces.
The authorities also seized a trove of digital materials.
The three ISIS members provided detailed information to the Ottoman Turkish authorities regarding their recruitment, activities in Syria and Turkiye, and individuals operating on behalf of ISIS in Turkiye.
The operation dealt a heavy blow to the Salman-e Farisi Brigade, which operates on behalf of ISIS on Ottoman Turkish soil.
While Turkiye effectively combats ISIS, the U.S., claiming to arm PKK/YPG against ISIS, experiences an intelligence failure.
If the terror incident had occurred, Europa ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... would have suffered the most damage.
Türkiye detains a total of 32 suspects, 3 of whom are the so-called leaders of the terrorist organization ISIS, who were preparing to attack synagogues, churches and the Iraqi Embassy in Türkiye. pic.twitter.com/wMx034Ifyu
The arrests came a week after police rounded up 304 suspected IS operatives in simultaneous raids across Turkey in what appeared to be a security sweep leading up to the New Year festivities.

[NYPost] A New Jersey man who prosecutors say was "devoted ... to waging violent mostly peaceful jihad against America" and galvanized by Hamas ...always the voice of sweet reason... ’ Oct. 7 attack against Israel, was busted in Kenya earlier this month while en route to join Somalia-based Islamist terror group al-Shabaab ... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all ofwhich have enough problems without them... , authorities said Friday.
Karrem Nasr, 23, of Lawrenceville, faces up to 20 years in prison after Manhattan federal prosecutors charged him with a single count of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.
"Nasr, a citizen of this country, traveled from Egypt to Kenya bent on joining and training with al-Shabaab [sic] so that he could execute his jihadist mission of death and destruction," US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams said Friday.
"Nasr was prepared to kill and be killed to support the jihadist cause, and in his own words, he described America as ’evil’ and the ’head of the snake,'" he added.
Nasr had moved to Egypt in July to study Arabic and became "particularly motivated to become a jihadi" after Hamas killed more than 1,200 people — including at least 33 Americans — in its October assault on southern Israel, FBI special agent Bilal Morgan wrote in court documents.
"In recent public social media posts, Nasr warned that ’Jihad’ was ’coming soon to a US location near you,’ posting airplane, bomb, and fire emojis," Morgan wrote. "Nasr expressed his intent to join al-Shabaab [sic] to receive military training and engage in jihad; that he was prepared to kill and be killed; and that he specifically aspired to be a martyr for the jihadi cause."
Nasr planned to meet members of al-Shabaab, which has links to Al Qaeda, during his Kenya trip after engaging with an FBI source posing as a controller for terrorist organizations last month.
"After the Oct. 7 events, I felt that something has changed [for] the better, I mean," Nasr reportedly told the source. "I felt that pride and dignity came back to the Moslems."
Nasr further referenced the recent online spread of the late Osama bin Laden ...... who is now sometimes referred to as Mister Bones...... ’s 2002 "Letter to America," which garnered attention among TikTok users who claimed they had never heard of Al Qaeda’s complaints about the conflict between Israel and Paleostinians.
"I do not know if you follow the news in the West, but there are a lot of people now in America, not Moslems, just reading the letter from Sheikh [Osama] bin Laden ..." Nasr told the source, according to court documents. "And there are a lot of people, because of this letter, [who] have completely changed their opinion on him, and they finally understand how evil America is."
Nasr reportedly offered to "write for any group that he joined" because he "could write well and knew how to translate," adding that he also "wanted to train to ’shoot’ with any [terror] group he joined," Morgan wrote.
The defendant originally planned to meet the jihadists in Kenya in January, but Nasr told the source he accelerated his plans after learning his mother was visiting from the US in mid-December and wanted to take him "back to America to continue my education and work."
“But Mo-o-o-om — all the kewl kids are joining jihad nowadays! You’re embarrassing me in front of my friends!”
"Parents nowadays have no interest in religion and they do not want their children to be mujahideen," he told the source, noting that his mother did not know of his intentions to join al-Shabaab. "They want their children to see life, be doctors, engineers and make a lot of money."
Nasr was ultimately arrested by Kenyan authorities after his arrival in Nairobi Dec. 14, Sherlocks said.
He said he had been thinking about joining a jihadist group “for a long time” but was not able to until Oct. 7, referring to the attack as “Flood the Aqsa,” a reference to Hamas’ term for the invasion: “Operation al-Aqsa Flood.”
Nasr was born in the United States to an Egyptian family and moved to Egypt to study Arabic in July. He contacted the FBI source using an encrypted messaging app on Nov. 14, expressing his desire to join al-Shabaab for military training.

[GEO.TV] India has requested Pakistain to extradite Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, the chief of the banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa ...the front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba... (JuD), the Foreign Office confirmed Friday.
"Pakistain has received a request from the Indian authorities, seeking extradition of Hafiz Saeed ...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat. He is periodically placed under house arrest so it looks like the govt is doing something. Once the heat is off they let him go.... in a so-called money laundering case," Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said in a statement.
However, there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly... there might be no plans to follow up on India’s request, as according to the spokesperson, "no bilateral extradition treaty exists between Pakistain and India".
India blames Saeed for being involved in attacks across the borders, however, the chief of the banned outfit has denied all claims.
A Pak court had sentenced Hafiz Saeed, founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba ...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI... (LeT), the gang blamed by the United States and India for the deadly 2008 Mumbai siege, to 31 years in prison in two cases of terrorism financing.
An anti-terrorism court in Lahore had found Saeed guilty of terrorism financing in April 2022 and sentenced him to 32 years in jail.
Hours before Zahra’s confirmation, India had also confirmed it had formally requested Pakistain to extradite Saeed, according to India's foreign ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.
"We have conveyed a request along with relevant supporting documents to the Government of Pakistain," Bagchi told news hounds in a media briefing.
Saeed conviction in 2022 was not the only one. Arrested in 2019, he was already serving a 15-year sentence after being found guilty of terror financing in 2020.
Saeed, who was put behind bars many times before over the past decade, denies being involved with armed operations, including the 2008 attacks in Mumbai, which killed 166 people.
[Rudaw] An unidentified drone struck the vicinity of a village in Sulaimani province’s Chamchamal district on Thursday. No casualties or material losses were reported.
Hemin Bahjat, mayor of Aghjalar subdistrict, told Rudaw on Thursday that a drone hit the vicinity of Chnartu village in the subdistrict, adding that aircrafts flew over the village following the bombardment.
The drone has yet to be identified.
The area has previously been targeted by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... on the grounds of the alleged presence of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
The village was hit by Ottoman Turkish air forces in August.
Neither Turkey nor the PKK have made any official comments.
In May last year, Ottoman Turkish drones targeted a vehicle in Aghjalar, killing five passengers, including at least two PKK members, Bahjat told Rudaw at the time. A month later, Ottoman Turkish state media reported that Turkey’s National Intelligence Agency (MIT) was behind the attack, claiming a commander of the gang was killed.
Ottoman Turkish officials have repeatedly accused Sulaimani authorities of supporting the PKK. Ottoman Turkish forces often carry out aerial attacks in the province on the grounds of targeting the PKK.
A flight ban on Sulaimani International Airport by Turkey has been in place since April 3 and was recently extended to June 2024. The Ottoman Turkish foreign ministry has said that the ban is related to the alleged "intensification" of PKK activity in Sulaimani.

[Rudaw] Unidentified assailants shot and killed a police officer in a Kirkuk bazar on Thursday, injuring at least two other bystanders. An investigation into the incident has been launched, according to the city’s police chief. Police spokesperson said the attack was carried out by the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (ISIS).
Security footage from the site shows two coppers walking around the bazar at around 11:16 am before a masked man shoots one of them from behind and quickly fires at the other, standing a few steps away from his colleague. The murdered officer has been identified as Shwana Tahir, a Kurdish civil police member.
The other police officer is currently receiving treatment for his injuries but is "in good condition," Kirkuk’s Police Chief Kawa Ghareeb told Rudaw’s Hardi Mohammed. The coppers were in the bazar for "personal needs," according to the police chief.
"We will conduct an investigation to find the reason behind the crime... No one who commits a crime in this city shall escape us," Ghareeb added.
A female bystander was also injured in the attack and is currently undergoing surgery at a Kirkuk hospital, according to information obtained by Rudaw.
Eyewitnesses from the scene told Rudaw that two men were involved in the attack.
"[The assailants] were two young men, they were both Kurds. They killed a policeman here and injured a woman and a man," said an eyewitness, "the other one was telling the killer ’Hurry up... Why are you not moving?’"

Amir Nuri, Kirkuk police spokesperson, described the incident as a "terrorist" act, stressing that they have yet to verify the identity and ethnicity of the assailants. He also said that the attack was carried out by ISIS.
"This is considered a terrorist attack, because the assailant, without any reason or argument, comes from behind with his face covered in order not to be recognized, shoots him and then runs away," Nuri told Rudaw.

[Ynet] Qatari network Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed reported Saturday that an Egyptian refugee camp has been established in Khan Younis to assist Palestinians who have fled their homes following the war in Gaza. Long past time for the Arabs to take responsibility for the problem they've created.
It wasn't "Palestinians" who rejected UN partition plan and attacked Israel in 1947 (Palestinians weren't invented until 1964: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestine_Liberation_Organization. It was a coalition of all Arab countries. Everyone contributed. And not just Arab, Egypt had former SS "military advisors", The Jordanian legion was led by British officers.
...At the same time, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported Saturday that 20 pro-Iranian militia operatives in Syria were killed in an alleged U.S. airstrike. According to the report, some of those eliminated were "not of Syrian descent." Good examples are infectious?
American airstrike? Not Israeli? Fascinating.

Abdulmutallab was subdued by the person seated next to him when he tried to ignite his underwear bomb. This young man was a student at the school I taught in. He never allowed his name to be publicized. Smart kid.
He described himself and other passengers as being startled and that while some people started to panic, a large male passenger put the suspect in a head lock while other passengers and flight crew put out the flames.

[IsraelTimes] Israeli targeting of Syrian sites comes less than two days after it struck area around Damascus airport and four days after IDF reportedly killed IRGC general.
The Israeli army said early Saturday that it was carrying out strikes in Syria after two rockets fired from the country fell in the Golan Heights.
It was the latest in a string of heightened activity by Israel in Syria over the past week.
"Following the report regarding sirens sounding in northern Israel, a short while ago two launches that were identified crossing from Syria fell in an open area," the army said Friday.
"The IDF is striking the sources of fire," it added.
The army also said it struck "terror infrastructure" belonging to Hezbollah in southern Leb ...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers... , including a launch site used by the terror group following a number of cross-border attacks earlier Friday.
The IDF confirmed to AFP that the projectiles fired from Syria were rockets, but did not say the precise location where they fell.
An Israeli strike targeted the area around the Syrian capital of Damascus on Thursday, the Syrian defense ministry and state media said.
Citing a military source, SANA said air defenses shot down "most" of the missiles launched by Israeli fighter jets from over the Golan Heights, but that there were "material losses."
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor reported Israeli strikes targeting a Syrian air defense position in the country’s southern Sweida province, as well as near Damascus international airport.
The attack near the airport came "one whole day after the airport resumed flights," said the British-based monitor of unclear funding, with a network inside Syria.
Damascus international airport had been out of service since it was targeted by alleged Israeli strikes in late November, just hours after flights resumed following similar strikes the previous month.
The airport was not damaged in the latest strike, Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.
[IsraelTimes] Red alert sirens blare in northern towns throughout Friday; Israel says it hits anti-tank missile squad, rocket launching positions and other terror infrastructure.
Hezbollah fired repeated rounds of rockets into Israel as the IDF struck a number of targets in Leb ...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers... in response, in yet another day of violence along Israel’s northern front on Friday. Red alert sirens blared in a number of towns along the border with Lebanon throughout the day amid rockets fired by Hezbollah.
The IDF said mid-morning on Friday that several missiles had been fired from southern Lebanon toward areas near the northern communities of Dovev and Bar’am, and that it was shelling the source of the fire with artillery. There were no immediate reports of injuries in the attacks. Hezbollah later grabbed credit for the rockets.
Later Friday, Lebanese media outlets reported that a car in the southern part of the country was allegedly struck by an Israeli drone. A video published by the IDF showed the strike on the vehicle in Aitaroun, which it said was an anti-tank missile squad.
Sirens again blared on Friday afternoon after several rockets were fired at northern Israel, three of which crossed the border, according to the IDF. The military said it was striking the launch sites in response.
The IDF said that its fighter jets also carried out strikes against Hezbollah sites in the Hamoul area of southern Lebanon in response to attacks on the border. The targets included rocket launching positions, a military site and other infrastructure used by the terror group, the military said. The IDF said it also struck the anti-tank missile squad as well as a launcher used to fire missiles at Israel from the village of Yaroun earlier in the day.
A suspected drone infiltration alarm also sounded Friday in a number of northern towns, but the IDF said later that it was a false alarm.
Friday’s activity came a day after Hezbollah launched repeated barrages of rockets at northern Israel on Thursday, causing damage in the northern city of Kiryat Shmona, while the IDF carried out widespread strikes in southern Lebanon in response. Overall, Hezbollah launched around 50 rockets and missiles as well as two drones at Israel throughout Thursday.
Separately, the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon on Thursday called on authorities to investigate an attack by Lebanese citizens on its forces. UNIFIL said that groups of young men in Lebanon’s south — a stronghold of the Hezbollah — blocked UNIFIL patrols twice since Wednesday, harming one of its troops.
Since October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli communities and military posts along the border on a near-daily basis, with the group saying it is doing so to support Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... amid the war there. Both Hezbollah and Hamas ...the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,... are backed by Iran.
So far, the skirmishes on the border have resulted in four civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of nine IDF soldiers. There have also been several rocket attacks from Syria, without any injuries.
Hezbollah has named 129 members who have been killed by Israel during the ongoing skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon but some also in Syria. In Lebanon, another 19 operatives from other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and at least 19 civilians, three of whom were journalists, have been killed.

The SDF said in a statement that it carried out a raid, in cooperation with the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) and the US-led global coalition, on the notorious al-Hol camp in Hasaka city against a senior ISIS official, Abu Obeida (aka Abu Muawiya).
Abu Obeida was "an Iraqi national who was responsible for planning terrorist activities in the al-Hol camp, such as killing the IDPs in the camp, smuggling the so-called "Caliphate Cubs" (ISIS children) to the areas west of the Euphrates and Ottoman Turkish-occupied areas, planning terrorist attacks targeting our security and military points, and threatening the civilian associations and the NGOs /INGOs operating in the al-Hol camp," read the statement.
"Following a year and a half of diligent monitoring and thorough investigation within the al-Hol camp led [by] our Military Operational Units to identify Abu Obeida as the criminal mastermind behind the terrorist activities within the camp. Our forces raided where the terrorist Abu Obeida was hiding. Equipped with an boom belt, the terrorist Abu Obeida clashed with our forces, adamantly refusing to surrender. Our forces handled the situation with utmost professionalism and successfully eliminated the terrorist Abu Obeida," it added.
Al-Hol camp houses 45,355 people, mostly women and kiddies. This includes 21,633 Syrians and 17,022 Iraqis, according to the latest figures from the US-led global coalition against ISIS.
The camp has been branded a breeding ground for terrorism, with authorities describing it as a "ticking time bomb." Camp residents come from around the world, but the bulk are Syrian and Iraqi.
Iraq has repatriated 1,728 families, numbering 7,607 individuals, from Syria, according to data Radaw has obtained from Iraqi authorities. The latest batch, consisting of over 600 people, was repatriated last week.
The Iraqi government arrested 17 of them due to their links with ISIS. One of them was accused of taking part in the 2014 Speicher massacre committed by ISIS.
The Camp Speicher Massacre is one of the most brutal crimes carried out by ISIS in Iraq. On June 12, 2014, around 1,700 Shiite cadets undergoing training at Camp Speicher in Tikrit ...birthplace of Saddam Hussein... were executed by ISIS holy warriors who had initially promised them safety.

[Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish armed forces conducted 48 Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s in northeast Syria (Rojava) since Monday, a war monitor reported on Wednesday.
This week, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund... launched a new wave of airstrikes against Rojava’s infrastructure in retaliation for the death of at least 12 of its soldiers in the Kurdistan Region by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Oil fields, refineries, and electricity stations were among the key targets of the Ottoman Turkish army.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a UK-based war monitor, reported that Turkey has conducted 48 airstrikes in northeast Syria (Rojava) since Monday. Rojava is ruled by the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES). Turkey targeted Rojava’s vital infrastructure, including power stations, hospitals, grain warehouses, factories, and construction companies.
Eight non-combatants were killed and 18 others, including women and kiddies, were maimed, according to the DAANES.
The airstrikes targeted 36 positions in Qamishli, and 12 positions in Kobane, according to SOHR.
The DAANES said in a statement on Tuesday that more than 2,600 villages were left in complete darkness as a result of Ottoman Turkish airstrikes targeting power stations in the city of Qamishli.
Ottoman Turkish state media reported on Tuesday that Ankara has destroyed nearly 50 facilities allegedly belonging to the PKK in Qamishli, Kobane, and Amuda, adding that "high-profile terrorists" were targeted in the strikes.
Ottoman Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler said on Wednesday that the Ottoman Turkish retaliatory airstrikes targeted 71 in Rojava and Kurdistan Region, "neutralizing" 59 members of the PKK and its alleged Syria offshoots. Turkey uses the term "neutralize" to denote that adversaries were captured, maimed, or killed.
Turkey carried out similar attacks against Rojava’s infrastructure in October as a response to PKK’s attack on the Ottoman Turkish interior ministry in Ankara. The strikes caused widespread blackouts in Rojava at the time.
Ankara claims that the Kurdish forces controlling Rojava are linked to the PKK but they have denied any ties with the gang.
Thousands of people on Tuesday attended the funeral ceremonies of six of the people killed during Ottoman Turkish attacks in Qamishli.
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said none of their members were killed in the strikes.
The SDF on Monday called on the people of Rojava to "act with awareness and responsibility" and to refrain from relying "solely on external protection," urging them to "actively" join the ranks of the Kurdish-led force, and called on the global coalition against the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. (ISIS) and Russia to break their silence regarding the recent escalation of Ottoman Turkish strikes.
Adam Sigelman, deputy director and spokesperson of the US state department for Near Eastern Affairs told Rudaw English on Tuesday that Washington was "dismayed by recent airstrikes across northern Syria that killed and injured civilians and struck civilian infrastructure," without directly mentioning Turkey.
"We urge an immediate de-escalation of violence and respect for established ceasefire lines," added Sigelman.

It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The US says the attacks have been "largely unsuccessful," but stressed that it will not hesitate to take action to ensure the safety of its forces if they are threatened.
"While we do not seek to escalate conflict in the region, we are committed and fully prepared to take further necessary measures to protect our people and our facilities," US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said in a statement after an attack on Tuesday.
The US has carried out several retaliatory precision Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s against Iran-linked facilities or groups in Syria and Iraq since the attacks began in October.
Around 2,500 American troops in Iraq and 900 in Syria are leading an international coalition through Operation Inherent Resolve that has assisted Kurdish, Iraqi, and local Syrian forces in the fight against ISIS, which once held swathes of land in Iraq and Syria but was declared territorially defeated in 2019.
[Rudaw] Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. "Four members of a sabotage team associated with the Zionist regime were executed in West Azerbaijan province," read a statement from Mizan.
According to the Iranian judiciary four individuals were "engaged in sabotage operations, armed kidnappings, and espionage, all under the support of Mossad's services."
According to Mizan, the individuals who were charged with "waging war and corruption on earth through intelligence collaboration with the Zionist regime to disrupt the country's security," are Vafa Hanareh, Aram Omari, Rahman Parhazo and Nasim Namazi.
Iran claims that these individuals have received "exaggerated rewards" from Israel for their missions inside Iran, adding that Hanareh was a "key element" of Mossad’s intelligence operations in the country.
On December 16, Iran's state media IRNA, reported the execution of one individual on charges of espionage for Israel in Sistan and Baluchestan province, without revealing the identity of the individual.
In its annual world report on global rights conditions for the year 2022 published in early January, Human Rights Watch accused Iran of conducting unfair trials and obtaining confessions under duress, as well as targeting dual and foreign nationals with vague accusations such as "cooperating with a hostile state."
"Iranian courts, and particularly revolutionary courts, regularly fall far short of providing fair trials, and use confessions likely obtained under torture as evidence in court," the report read.

[FoxNews] An Israeli airstrike on the Damascus airport has reportedly killed nearly a dozen senior Iranian military officials, which one expert told Fox News Digital would prove Israel’s ability to maintain a multi-faceted defense of the region.
"While there is no independent confirmation of Guard Corps names or ranks, the IRGC has long seen Syria as a critical regional hub to project power into the Eastern Mediterranean and connect its constellation of proxies called the ‘Axis of Resistance,’" Behnam Ben Taleblu, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, said.
"It should come as a shock to no one that Guard Corps elite are operating there, especially amid a regional war, which they are directing far away from their own soil," he added.
"Similarly, should the strike be independently verified, it would be more proof of Israel being able to hold back and deter elements of the Axis of Resistance in other geographies while fighting to defeat Hamas in Gaza," Taleblu stressed.
Syrian media claimed that Israel had targeted sites in southern Syria and near Damascus in waves that aimed to disrupt and Iran’s operations in the country.
A report from The Jerusalem Post claimed the strike killed 11 leaders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at the airport on Thursday night.
The IRGC leadership targeted also reportedly included Nur Rashid, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards in eastern Syria, who only suffered injuries from the attack. The group had supposedly visited the country to meet with high-ranking delegates from Syria.
Israel has reportedly launched strikes against IRGC personnel in Damascus across the past week: Iranian leaders claimed that one such strike on Monday killed senior IRGC commander Sayyed Razi Mousavi, who was responsible for coordinating a military alliance between Iran and Syria.
Pro-regime media quoting an IRGC official denied 11 of its senior members were killed in a report published late on Friday in Iran.
Iran state media interrupted programming to announce Mousavi’s death and described him as one of the oldest advisers for the IRGC in Syria.
While the IDF has not commented on the recent strikes in Syria, Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant, spoke Friday during a tour of the Ramat David air base and stated that "The IAF’s operations in all arenas is very impressive. It is appropriate that the ‘thunder’ of our planes will drown out unnecessary discussions, and enable the IDF to carry out its missions quietly and safely."
Israel has not shied away from Iran’s aggressions, which Tehran pushes in the region through its various proxy groups, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen.
Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett this week in a Wall Street Journal op-ed said that Israel has even retaliated inside Iran for terrorist attacks committed in 2022, saying that he told his security chiefs during his administration that his goal was "to avoid, if reasonably possible, local clashes" with Iran proxies.
"As prime minister, I made another decision regarding Iran," Bennett wrote. "I directed Israel's security forces to make Tehran pay for its decision to sponsor terror."
"Enough impunity," he stressed. "After Iran launched two failed UAV attacks on Israel in February 2022, Israel destroyed a UAV base on Iranian soil."
"In March 2022, Iran's terror unit attempted to kill Israeli tourists in Turkey and failed. Shortly thereafter, the commander of that very unit was assassinated in the center of Tehran," he added.
Two separate Israeli airstrikes targeted Syria late Thursday night, causing material damage, state media reported.
“At around 23:05 this evening, the Israeli enemy carried out an aerial aggression from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points in the southern region,” Syria state media (SANA) reported, citing a military source and adding that the Syrian aerial defense downed most of the missiles.
Hours later, SANA reported that Israel conducted another airstrike, from the direction of Lebanon, targeting Damascus.
Both attacks caused material damage according to SANA.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory of Human Rights (SOHR) reported that the Israeli strikes targeted the vicinity of the Damascus airport, injuring two Syrian army soldiers.
The strikes come a day after the airport resumed flights since October 22, when it was put of service by an Israeli airstrike.
The IRGC has issued a statement "strongly denying" reports that 11 of its fighters were killed in a suspected Israeli strike in Damascus. https://t.co/piT3ZBRMAE
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor reported Israeli strikes targeting a Syrian air defense position in the country’s southern Sweida province, as well as near Damascus international airport.
