Really. Because she couldn’t possibly be the evil person she sounds like.
[DailyMail, Where America Gets Its News] Harvard President Claudine Gay is today walking back her shocking comments on antisemitism, insisting her words have been 'confused' and that the school will take action against anyone threatening Jewish students.
Gay and the presidents of UPenn and MIT have been eviscerated for telling congress yesterday that calls for the genocide of Jews do not violate their codes of conduct.
After ferocious backlash and a donor boycott, Gay released a statement today insisting she'd been misunderstood.
'There are some who have confused a right to free expression with the idea that Harvard will condone calls for violence against Jewish students.
'Let me be clear: Calls for violence or genocide against the Jewish community, or any religious or ethnic group are vile, they have no place at Harvard, and those who threaten our Jewish students will be held to account,' she said.
Neither UPenn nor MIT have corrected their president's comments.
It came as the White House joined condemnation of the women's remarks.
'It’s unbelievable that this needs to be said: calls for genocide are monstrous and antithetical to everything we represent as a country.
'Any statements that advocate for the systematic murder of Jews are dangerous and revolting — and we should all stand firmly against them, on the side of human dignity and the most basic values that unite us as Americans,' Deputy White House Press Secretary Andrew Bates said in a statement.
Gay and the other two leaders was asked repeatedly and unequivocally yesterday if calling for the genocide of Jews amounted to bullying or harassment.
She said the words themselves while 'abhorrent', didn't rise to the level of a rule violation.
It would only be actionable, she said, if the hate speech crossed into 'conduct'.
Today, students from the schools along with some of the shocked Republicans present at the hearing say it is clear that all three must resign.
The boards of each school - which ultimately decide whether the women will remain in their positions - are yet to make their positions clear.
And while donors including Bill Ackman have expressed their disgust with the remarks, other prominent alumni and donors like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg ...the Peewee Herman clone who owns Facebook. He's got more money than Croesus and thinks he should be regulated by the government because it does such a nifty job with all the other stuff it regulates.... remain silent on the issue.
The Harvard Board of Overseers is yet to respond to inquiries on Dr. Gay's remarks, as is its Alumni Association. UPenn and MIT have been equally silent.
Seriously? Because being focussed is a primary component of her job.
[IsraelTimes] Amid furious backlash to the presidents of three of the top US universities refusing to explicitly say that calls for genocide of Jewish people violate campus rules on harassment during a high-profile congressional hearing Tuesday, University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill appears to walk back some of her controversial comments.
"In that moment, I was focused on our university’s longstanding policies aligned with the US Constitution, which say that speech alone is not punishable," she says in a video posted tonight (Wednesday). "I was not focused on, but I should have been, the irrefutable fact that a call for genocide of Jewish people is a call for some of the most terrible violence human beings can perpetrate. It’s evil — plain and simple."
"I want to be clear, a call for genocide of Jewish people is threatening—deeply so. It is intentionally meant to terrify a people who have been subjected to pogroms and hatred for centuries and were the victims of mass genocide in the Holocaust. In my view, it would be harassment or intimidation," she adds.
She says the university would "initiate a serious and careful look at our policies."
"In today’s world, where we are seeing signs of hate proliferating across our campus and our world in a way not seen in years, these policies need to be clarified and evaluated," she says.
[IsraelTimes] The White House appears to rebuke the presidents of three top American universities, who refused to explicitly say that calls for genocide of Jewish people violate campus rules on harassment and bullying during a congressional hearing yesterday.
Asked if such calls are against the codes of conduct of Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Pennsylvania, all three presidents said the answer “depends on the context.”
“We just witnessed the worst massacre suffered by the Jewish people since the Holocaust, the latest atrocities in a heartbreaking, genocidal pattern that goes back thousands of years,” White House spokesperson Andrew Bates says in a statement, weighing in on the growing controversy surrounding the hearing.
“It’s unbelievable that this needs to be said: calls for genocide are monstrous and antithetical to everything we represent as a country,” he says.
“Any statements that advocate for the systematic murder of Jews are dangerous and revolting – and we should all stand firmly against them, on the side of human dignity and the most basic values that unite us as Americans,” Bates adds, while avoiding direct mention of the university heads.

Translation: "Oops, I got caught."
These women are in so far over their heads that it isn't funny. All they know how to do is regurgitate politically correct sound bites. And when those sound bites collide with the ugly reality of evil, they are clueless.
Big, big kudos to Elise Stefanik for forcing this amorality out into the open. And shame on these women for their ignorant amorality.

I am a Harvard Business School alumnus, so I get a lot of Claudine's communications. By my count, this is the seventh statement she's issued. After a while, you have to draw the conclusion that she really doesn't know what she's talking about.

[SUDANTRIBUNE] In a groundbreaking statement, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken ...71st United States secretary of state and a leading light of the corrupt and inept Biden administration. He previously served as deputy national security advisor from 2013 to 2015 and deputy secretary of state from 2015 to 2017 under the corrupt and inept Obama administration. He advocated for the 2003 invasion of Iraq while serving as the Democratic staff director of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee from 2002 to 2008. He was a foreign policy advisor for the Biden 2008 presidential campaign. During his tenure in the Obama administration, Blinken helped craft B.O.'s policy on Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the nuclear program of Iran. We all saw how well each of those worked. After leaving government service, Blinken moved into the private sector, co-founding WestExec Advisors, a lobbying firm... has concluded that members of the Sudan ...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans... ese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have committed war crimes. He further emphasized that the paramilitary forces have also committed crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing in Sudan.
Secretary Blinken’s determination follows a comprehensive investigation by the State Department into the conflict that erupted in Sudan on April 15, 2023. The investigation uncovered that civilians have been subjected to abuse and, in some cases, killed at SAF and RSF detention centres.
Moreover, the RSF and allied militias have terrorized women and girls throughout Sudan through sexual violence, attacking them in their homes, abducting them from the streets, or targeting those seeking refuge across the border.
He also outlined the horrific atrocities committed against the Masalit tribe in West Darfur state, stating that their situation mirrors the genocide that began almost 20 years ago in Darfur. "Masalit civilians have been hunted down and left for dead in the streets, their homes set on fire, and told that there is no place in Sudan for them," he declared.
"Based on the State Department’s meticulous analysis of the law and available evidence, I have determined that members of the SAF and the RSF have committed war crimes in Sudan. I have also determined that members of the RSF and allied militias have committed crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing," he emphasized.
Secretary Blinken’s determination signifies a significant step towards holding the perpetrators accountable for their actions. It paves the way for additional measures from the American administration against the two parties.
The announcement arrives as a pivotal moment in the international response to the Sudanese crisis, demanding immediate attention to address the population’s severe humanitarian and human rights ...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless... challenges.
Secretary Blinken urged the Sudanese government and the international community to prioritize protecting civilians and guaranteeing access to humanitarian aid for those affected by the conflict.
Seven months after the outbreak of the war in Sudan, regional and international efforts have failed to halt the festivities and violence against civilians. Furthermore, humanitarian access remains hampered by both sides despite the signed commitments in this regard.
The Biden administration has been criticized for not taking prompt measures to press the belligerents to cease fighting. Additionally, commentators have failed to explain why Washington remained silent while its regional allies continued to fuel the conflict and provide weapons to the warring parties.
For the first time since the conflict began, the White House stated on December 2 that Vice President Kámala Harris Former Oakland mayor Willie Brown's former mistress, now a senatrix from California former 2020 Dem presidential hopeful, and Joe Biden's wing nut... discussed the situation in Sudan with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed on the sidelines of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

[AFRICANEWS] Mauritania and Chad have paved the way for a dissolution of the G5 Sahel alliance created in 2014 to tackle jihadism and other challenges in the sub-region, following the withdrawal of the other three members, Mali, Burkina Faso ...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president used to be Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and was chased out in 2014. Now it's the usual army officer type guy, Captain Ibrahim Traore, running things, who's just doing a bang-up job unless he's already been deposed... and Niger.
Mauritania and Chad "take note of and respect the sovereign decision" of Burkina Faso and Niger to withdraw, following the earlier announcement of Mali's withdrawal, the two countries say.
They "(will) implement all necessary measures in accordance with the provisions of the Convention establishing the G5 Sahel, in particular, article 20", they say in a statement published Wednesday morning by the Mauritanian news agency, and also forwarded to AFP by the Chadian government.
Article 20 of the Convention states that "the G5 Sahel can be dissolved at the request of at least three member states".
In the communiqué announcing their country's withdrawal on Saturday, the military regimes now in power in Burkina Faso and Niger did not expressly request the dissolution of the G5 Sahel.
But the fate of this alliance, which was in a bad way even before the Malian junta announced its withdrawal in 2022, appeared to be sealed.
The member countries had set up a joint military force in 2017, but its effectiveness remained very limited.
The violence continued to spread, leaving thousands of civilians and combatants dead and millions displaced. It has strongly contributed to political instability and a succession of coups de force.
- INFANTILIZING PARTNERSHIP" - Since the creation of the G5 Sahel, the sub-region has seen the military take power by force in Mali in 2020, Burkina Faso in 2022 and Niger in 2023.
Hammering home sovereignist rhetoric, they have distanced themselves in great acrimony from the former dominant power, La Belle France, a supporter of the G5 Sahel, and its European partners.
They have set up their own alliance in 2023, and their foreign ministers have just proposed the creation of a confederation.
Burkina Faso and Niger announced on Saturday that they had decided "in full illusory sovereignty" to withdraw "from all G5 Sahel bodies, including the Joint Force". This decision took effect on November 29, they said in a joint communiqué.
According to Ouagadougou and Niamey, "the organization is struggling to achieve its objectives" and is undermined by "institutional red tape and old-fashioned constraints".
They refused to "serve foreign interests to the detriment of those of the peoples of the Sahel, still less to accept the diktat of any power in the name of a misguided and infantilizing partnership that denies the right to illusory sovereignty of our peoples and our States".
Mali left the G5 Sahel in 2022, calling the organization "instrumentalized by the outside world". La Belle France is usually the target of such accusations.

[AFRICANEWS] The United Nations ...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly... on Wednesday called for an "impartial investigation" after a Nigerian army dronezap accidentally killed at least 85 villagers celebrating a Moslem holiday on Sunday.
The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights noted that "the authorities have described the deaths of civilians as accidental", but at the same time called for "all possible measures to be taken in the future to ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure".
The Nigerian authorities "must review the rules of engagement and operational procedures to ensure that such incidents do not recur", added UN agency front man Seif Magango in a statement.
The High Commission "urged" Abuja to "conduct a thorough and impartial investigation" and "hold those responsible to account", while providing reparations to the victims and their families.
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered an investigation on Tuesday after the army admitted that one of its drones targeting gangs had accidentally hit the village of Tudun Biri, in the northwestern state of Kaduna, during the Moslem festival of Mawlid, which commemorates the birth of the Prophet Muhammad.
Most of the victims were women, children, and the elderly.

[IsraelTimes] Event organizers decry antisemitism after company makes ’shameful decision’ to cancel charter buses expected to transport rally-goers.
Despite a foot of snow in Montreal and chartered buses that never showed up in Toronto, thousands of Canadian Jews assembled on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Monday to voice solidarity with Israel and decry a rise in antisemitism.
The rally’s speakers included several prominent Canadian politicians, Jewish leaders, college students who feel unsafe on campus and family members of Israelis taken hostage or killed by Hamas ...always the voice of sweet reason... on October 7.
Local Jewish leaders called the event, organized by Jewish federations across Canada and the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, a historic gathering. But 17 of 70 chartered buses did not show up to pick up rally-goers in Toronto, just weeks after a similar incident in bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit ... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang... before a massive pro-Israel rally in Washington.
Organizers called the no-show bus company antisemitic.
What do bus drivers unions have against supporters of Israel? This isn’t the only place Zionists have been abandoned without warning.
"Despite charging in full in advance and confirming its participation, the company did not send a single bus and has declined all communications while refusing to provide any explanations," said Adam Minsky, president and CEO of United Jewish Appeal Federations in Toronto.
"We are driven to the view that this shameful decision is intended to disrupt our peaceful rally out of hatred toward Jews," he added. "What happened today is sickening and outrageous. We will respond aggressively with every legal and public affairs tool at our disposal."
Israel’s ambassador to Canada Iddo Moed, Liberal Party member of parliament Anthony Housefather and deputy Conservative Party leader Melissa Lantsman all spoke on Monday.
"This is not 1943. I’m grateful that Israel exists and has an army to fight back against those who launched this pogrom," said Housefather, who is Jewish and represents Montreal’s heavily Jewish Mount Royal district.
Raquel Look, whose son Alexandre was murdered at the music festival in southern Israel attacked by Hamas on October 7, called on Canadian politicians to take more action against antisemitism. Hate crimes against Jews — including multiple incidents that have involved Molotov cocktails thrown at Montreal-area synagogues and Jewish centers — have spiked across Canada.
"Our sorrow is deep and immeasurable, but today we want to channel this immense pain into a call for action," Look said. "Please let us honor his memory by standing up against the forces that seek to destroy Jewish and Canadian values we hold so dear."

Expressing hope in Pakistain’s support, he referred to the country as "brave" and a land of mujahideen (people who fight for Islam).
Haniyeh, during the event organised by Majlis Ittehad-e-Ummah Pakistain, highlighted the opposition to Israel among those who follow the Holy Koran closely.

"Guterres's tenure is a danger to world peace. Those who support world peace must support the liberation of Gaza from Hamas.
Never mind "world peace". These who give a f*ck about "Palestinians" as human beings rather than just a weapon against Israel, will support expulsion of Hamas from Gaza (anybody, anyone?).
[IsraelTimes] Defense Minister Yoav Gallant meets mayors and heads of councils located near the Leb ...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the Second Lebanon War in 2006, barred Hezbollah from maintaining a military presence south of the Litani, which is located some 30 kilometers (18 miles) north of the Israel-Lebanon border. Hezbollah has blatantly violated that resolution and regularly launches attacks on Israel from near the border.
During the tense meeting in Nahariya, Gallant says the best option for Israel is to reach a diplomatic arrangement that will cause Resolution 1701 to be enforced.
If that doesn’t succeed, Gallant tells the local leaders, Israel will "act with all the means at its disposal" to push Hezbollah back through military actions.
Some 80,000 residents of communities located up to 10 kilometers south of the Lebanon border have been evacuated and are temporarily staying in hotels and other facilities, with funding from the state. Many have voiced concern that they will be exposed to dangers once they return home, if Hezbollah isn’t pushed away from the border area.

The Israeli intention to drive Hizbollah north of the Litani River would leave the city of Tyre (Lebanon's fourth largest city with its 70,000 so-called refugees, many from the fighting in Syria) free from an occupying force.
Whether truth or taqqiya, it’s clear to the Arabs of Israel where lies safety and where danger.
[IsraelTimes] Kafr Qasim Mayor Adel Badir says the leadership of the Arab community condemned the October 7 assault, and that what happened that day is undeniable.
"I didn’t have to see the film; the facts are the facts, it’s the truth," Badir tells the Kan public broadcaster.
"The [Arab] leadership showed responsibility, and from the first day they condemned what happened. Most of the Arab mayors said so, if not all of them," he says.
"It goes against our values and the values of Islam," Badir says.
"When you personally know some of the murdered people it is even harder. Badir was speaking after he attended a screening last night of the video of the Hamas ...the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,... atrocities that was held by the Prime Minister’s Office for leaders of Israel’s Arab community.
"I left after five minutes following [the video of] the two boys and their father. I couldn’t bear it. As a father of six with 13 grandchildren, I couldn’t," he says.
Arab mayors, heads of city councils, community center administrators, media figures, journalists and "thought leaders" were among those invited to the Nazareth viewing.
The film, produced by the IDF Spokesperson’s Office, shows uncensored, difficult-to-watch videos, many taken from terrorists’ bodycams during their murderous rampage in southern Israel on October 7.
Hamas wants to wage war on women? Let them die at the hands of the women.
[IsraelTimes] The IDF says it has seen a massive turnout of female conscripts drafting to combat units amid the war in the Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... Strip.
Over the last week, the IDF drafted young women to various combat units where female soldiers can currently serve.
The IDF says it has seen a draft turnout above 100%, and that 12% of women drafting to combat units requested this during the war.
It says that the Border Defense Corps’ light infantry units saw a 116% draft turnout, and the corps’ Combat Intelligence Collection units saw a 133% turnout.
The Artillery Corps saw a 132% draft turnout; the Air Force’s air defense array saw 101%; the Home Front Command’s Search and Rescue units saw 122%; and the Border Police saw 119%.
The numbers mean that more soldiers are showing up for duty than the IDF had initially planned for.
Separately, the IDF says the first two female recruits recently completed screening tests for the Air Force’s elite helicopter-borne search and rescue Unit 669, and will be drafted to the unit later this month.
The pair will then undergo one year and eight months of training, and if they complete it, they will be the first female soldiers in Unit 669.

[IsraelTimes] Weekly hearings in the corruption trial of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s lawyer will go down to two per week instead of the current three, after the court acceded to a request by the premier’s lawyer who cited the leader’s lack of availability to prepare for the testimonies of new key witnesses in light of the ongoing war against Hamas ...the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,... Tomorrow’s planned hearing has therefore been canceled.
Attorneys for fellow Case 4000 defendant Shaul Elovitch requested yesterday that hearings be held in that case on two days per week, down from three, to accommodate for legal staff called up for reserve duty amid the war.
In response, the Jerusalem District Court suggested yesterday reducing the Case 4000 hearings to two per week alongside holding one weekly hearing on Cases 1000 and 2000, on which testimonies are currently due to start being heard next month.
But Netanyahu attorney Amit Hadad wrote that he objects to this since it would mean questioning new key witnesses, and the prime minister doesn’t have time to prepare for this.
"A significant portion" of witnesses set to be heard in those cases "are significant witnesses, whose testimony requires preparation in coordination and together with the prime minister," Hadad wrote.
"In the current situation, in the middle of the Swords of Iron war, there is no possibility of having the necessary contact with the prime minister to prepare for the questioning of the expected witnesses," he added in his request, which has now been accepted.
Netanyahu denies wrongdoing and claims that the charges were fabricated in a witch hunt led by the police and state prosecution.
He refused to step down ...Hell no! The money's too good!... when the indictments were filed, arguing that he is capable of standing trial while also leading the country.
The trial has been ongoing for over 3.5 years, and has faced criticism over the slow pace of proceedings.

[IsraelTimes] Hamas ...the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,... likely has extra-deep fortified tunnels for key infrastructure, Israeli engineer tells UK paper
Hamas has likely built multiple layers of underground tunnels, with the lower-level tunnels better defended and likely housing the most significant infrastructure belonging to the Paleostinian terror group, an IDF reservist who is a civil engineer has told the UK’s Financial Times.
Yehuda Kfir, an expert in underground warfare, has been quoted saying Hamas likely learned this tactic from previous Israeli Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s in 2021 that used "bunker-busters."
"The lesson Hamas likely learned from the 2021 air strikes... was to dig deeper and to encase the tunnel system with reinforced concrete," he is quoted as saying. "Hamas [has] likely built different layers of tunnels: An upper ’defensive’ level with booby-traps, very narrow [tunnels] and the blast-proof doors we’ve already seen, and a lower ’offensive’ level that is deeper and wider and hold things like logistics centres, living quarters and weapons stores."

[IsraelTimes] Aryeh Deri, who sits as an observer in the war cabinet, says in an interview that Hamas ...a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",... had plans for its October 7 onslaught that would have been far more devastating.
In an interview (Hebrew link) with the Kikar HaShabbat website published earlier today, Deri, leader of the ultra-Orthodox Shas party in the coalition, says, "We know now what we didn’t know then."
He elaborates that since the start of the ground operation, "the IDF has gone into Hamas [command] posts and seized vast amounts of material. We now see, in black on white, what their plans were for Simhat Torah — for many Simhat Torahs, heaven help us." (Simhat Torah is the Jewish festival that coincided this year with October 7.)
"The grand plan was completely different," he says, indicating that the hard boyz had far greater and more devastating ambitions.
He adds that Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. [IsraelTimes] A video circulating on social media shows armed people, presumably Hamas members, looting humanitarian aid trucks crossing into the Gaza Strip from Rafah.
The video was filmed Monday by Gazan civilians as they threw stones at the looters wearing civilian fatigues, who shot back in response.
The civilians can be heard insulting the looters, and shouting “This is all being filmed!”
A Gazan dissident living in Europe with over 100,000 followers on Facebook shares the video, with a caption lambasting Hamas: “This is how you treat the patient and steadfast people you have starved to death? By shooting at them?”
Some Gazan social media users claim that the men belong to local Rafah gangs who steal from aid trucks and resell their booty on the black market.
A similar video emerged in recent weeks of Hamas terrorists in military uniforms stealing from aid convoys and beating up civilians as they try to access the food.

[NAHARNET] Hezbollah has agreed to the extension of the term of Army chief General Joseph Aoun, MP Sajih Atiyeh said on Wednesday.
"But we are still waiting for the mechanism to carry out the extension amid consultations with Hezbollah’s MPs," Atiyeh told al-Jadeed TV.
"The likely scenario is raising the retirement age should the extension take place through parliament, and therefore it will include the biggest number of officers, including (Internal Security Forces chief) Maj. Gen. Imad Othman," Atiyeh added.
"So far, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati does not prefer that the extension take place through Cabinet, because this would need unanimity from all its components," the MP went on to say.

"This statement is unacceptable and it violates Lebanon's illusory sovereignty," Geagea said.
After Hamas' statement sparked a storm of outrage in Lebanon, the group said it was misinterpreted and that the new division is a popular and not a military organization.
Geagea accused Hezbollah of approving Hamas' move and of never keeping its promises. "It is evident that Hamas is under the command of Hezbollah and it wouldn't carry out any military movements without its knowledge and approval," he said, adding that Sayyed His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah ...The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb... had agreed during the 2006 Lebanese dialogue to disarm Paleostinians outside camps and to organize the use of arms inside camps.
Geagea also slammed the government and the caretaker ministers of Defense and Interior for not taking practical measures nor taking a firm position regarding what's happening. "The government is required to put pressure on Hezbollah to stop this farce."
[NAHARNET] The U.S. is examining the possibility of an agreement between Israel and Leb ...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers... on the land border between them, similar to the maritime border agreement signed in 2022, Israeli officials have said.
The same sources told Israel’s Yedioth Aharonot newspaper that a senior White House official, Amos Hochstein, who was a key mediator in the maritime border deal and has been working on reducing the chance of escalation on the border since October 7, is examining the possibility of devising a similar mechanism to reach an agreement on the land border disputes between Lebanon and Israel.
These disputes refer, among other things, to the Shebaa Farms area, which Lebanon says is Lebanese territory occupied by Israel.
The formal purpose of such an agreement would be to regulate the border issues, which are the official argument that Hezbollah makes against Israel in the domestic Lebanese arena. But senior Israeli officials said that, in fact, the goal is to permanently remove Hezbollah from the border by "powerful" diplomatic means, so that Israel is "not forced to be dragged into a military campaign on the northern border."
The Biden administration has made it clear to Israel that it would not support an Israeli pre-emptive strike against Hezbollah, and President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. Former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body.... went out of his way to launch a credible threat aimed at detering Hezbollah from expanding the war it is already waging against Israel.
This evening Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant held a tense meeting with the heads of the Israeli communities that lie on and near the frontline with Lebanon. The minister promised them that Hezbollah would be driven beyond the Litani River, either by political or military means. Only after Hezbollah is removed from the border will the residents of the Israeli north be returned to their homes, he said.
Last week Minister Gallant infuriated the residents of the north when he said that they will soon be able to return to their homes since Hezbollah is "deterred and removed from the border." Now he made it clear that the war "will not end without the removal of Hezbollah," Yedioth Aharonot said.
