[Breitbart] Maine state Senate Democrats blocked a proposed amendment on Tuesday to a late-term abortion bill that would have placed a four-year moratorium on the trafficking of fetal remains leftover from late-term abortions, the Maine Wire reported.
Republican state Sen. Eric Brakey proposed the amendment and stated that if the late-term abortion bill passes (LD 1619) “the least we can do it to establish this moratorium on the trafficking of fetal body parts so that the legislature can thoughtfully consider the issue in the coming years and develop more permanent policy.” Trafficking in fetal remains would have been a Class C crime under the amendment.
Lawmakers ultimately voted 23-11 in favor of Democrat state Sen. Mattie Daughtry’s motion to indefinitely postpone consideration of the amendment. Every single Democrat state senator voted in favor of essentially killing Brakey’s amendment, as did Republican Sen. Rick Bennett. However, Bennett opposed the broader bill, the report states.
“If Gov. Mills’ late-term abortion bill becomes law, as now seems certain, elective late-term abortions on healthy babies will be allowed for the first time in Maine, raising a question currently unaddressed by Maine’s laws: What happens to the viable baby after an abortion clinic has ended his or her life and induced a stillbirth?” according to the report, which noted that the bill does not contain any language regulating how the bodies of aborted babies are to be disposed of.
The report noted that while pro-abortion activists have “long dismissed the connection between late-term abortion clinics and fetal tissue research” fetal remains have long been a “sought-after source of tissue for medical research.” Brakey expressed concern that Maine’s legalization of late-term abortion would “create a marketplace for aborted fetal tissues,” according to the report.
According to the report, a top advocate of the late-term abortion bill has previously been involved with late-term abortions that allegedly ended up supplying fetal tissue to researchers.
“Dr. Shannon Carr, a Maine-based OB/GYN who was tapped this year as a top late-term abortion expert by Maine Democrats and Gov. [Janet] Mills, worked at a clinic in New Mexico that supplied fetal tissue for research,” according to the report.
“Her former employer, Southwestern Women’s Options in Albuquerque, N.M., was a top supplier of fetal tissue for the University of New Mexico until an investigation found researchers had improperly supplied those samples to at least one private research facility,” the report alleges.
That investigation happened after Carr allegedly “authorized and participated in a late-term abortion that resulted in the death of 23-year-old Keisha Atkins,” the report states. Southwestern Women’s Options and the University of New Mexico Hospital system “paid a reported $1.26 million to Atkins’ family in a wrongful death case that named Carr,” according to the report.
Wonder if the MSM, other Social Media outlets, the DC Elite and various anti-USA Special Interest Groups had anything to do with this push to ridicule and silence this open, honest social media platform that is exposing their lies and corruption?
[Yahoo] Feds Charge Investors in Truth Social Deal With Insider Trading
Apparently Donald Trump isn’t the only one having trouble with the truth.
While the former president battles the Department of Justice and the Manhattan district attorney, the Securities and Exchange Commission has indicted three investors involved in taking Trump’s fledgling Twitter alternative Truth Social public. The regulators allege that the trio—brothers Michael and Gerald Shvartsman and Bruce Garelick, who worked for Michael Shvartsman—rolled up $23 million in October 2021 thanks to non-public intel about the corporate maneuvers, violating confidentiality agreements and insider trading rules in the process.
The SEC did not accuse Trump himself or his company of wrongdoing, and Truth Social’s ownership entity, Trump Media & Technology Group Corp., did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Rumblings of trouble at Digital World Acquisition Corporation, the company in charge of turning Truth Social into a hot tech stock like its rivals, started back in December 2021, shortly after the troika of traders allegedly betrayed their DWAC partners’ trust and sold the shares they had bought on privileged info. The firm’s securities have since struggled to attract interest, and it has been reduced to citing Fox New reports about Trump’s pledge not to return to Twitter as proof of its viability. The Nasdaq threatened to remove the company from its exchange in March.
It currently trades at a little under $13 a share, only a little more than it sold for when the indicted investors first bought in.
What made the alleged insider trading by the venture capitalists in the case especially galling, according to the SEC, is that Garelick sat on board of directors at DWAC, which was created for the sole purpose of merging with Trump’s social media enterprise. The three were privy to the merger plan before the rest of the investment world, and allegedly seized the opportunity to acquire hundreds of thousands of stakes before its official announcement, allowing them to cash in afterward.

And yes, crongressvermin do insider trading all the time. See: Nancy Pelosi. Insider Trading, as well as bribes, are how they collect 10X their annual salary. And it's not limited to Democrats.

This is their act. The nomenclatura have decided that the masses have too much freedom of movement, and have decided to see that there's less of it. Then it's much easier to manage.

[Marijuana Moment] Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), a 2024 Republican presidential candidate, has signed a bill that expressly prohibits sober living facilities from allowing residents to possess or use medical marijuana, even if the patient is certified by a doctor to legally use cannabis therapeutically in accordance with state law. All other doctor-prescribed pharmaceutical medications may be permitted, however.
The governor signed the legislation, SB 210, on Tuesday—and he separately gave final approval to a hemp regulations measure that bans the sale of legal smokeless hemp products to people under 21.
Under the newly enacted SB 210, applicants who are seeking licensing to operate recovery residences under the state Department of Children and Families will need to affirm that they do not permit the use of cannabis, which "includes marijuana that has been certified by a qualified physician for medical use."
But residents may continue to use other pharmaceutical drugs prescribed by doctors, so the law explicitly singles out medical marijuana.
In order to receive certification, a prospective recovery residence will need to provide documentation, including a policy and procedures manual. The new law will amend that requirement to specifically mandate that the manual includes a prohibition on marijuana, regardless of a person’s status as a medical cannabis patient.
DeSantis also signed SB 1676, a bill that revises hemp regulations in the state and includes a new provision that bars the sale of smokeless hemp products such as "snuff, chewing gum, and other smokeless products" to people under 21. The law previously only set the age restriction on smokable hemp items.
The governor further vetoed two criminal justice reform bills that aren’t specifically about cannabis. They would have revised expungements and sentencing statutes.
[FoxNews] The Justice Department argued in a new court filing this week that a Florida law restricting Chinese land ownership by U.S. military installations and major infrastructure is unconstitutional.
In a "statement of interest" filed in U. S. District Court in Tallahassee on Tuesday, the DOJ argues that SB 264 – signed into law last month by GOP presidential candidate and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis – violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution, as well as the Fair Housing Act of 1968 (FHA).
FHA broadly prohibits housing discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, familial status, disability and national origin.
"These unlawful provisions will cause serious harm to people simply because of their national origin, contravene federal civil rights laws, undermine constitutional rights, and will not advance the State’s purported goal of increasing public safety," the Justice Department wrote.
The state law imposes new restrictions on persons and entities from "foreign countries of concern," defined as China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela and Syria.
It bans "foreign principals," defined as someone whose "domicile" in the People's Republic of China and not a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, from owning or acquiring agricultural land or real property within ten miles of any "military installation" or "critical infrastructure facility" in Florida.
The legislation has an exception for individuals with a valid non-tourist visa or who have been granted asylum to purchase one residential real property if the property is less than two acres in size and not within five miles of a military installation.
The law also prohibits the "purchase or acquisition of real property by the People’s Republic of China," including by Chinese political and corporate entities.
DeSantis has described the legislation as a way to "counteract the malign influence of the Chinese Communist Party in the state of Florida."
"Restricting China and other hostile foreign nations from controlling Florida’s agricultural land and lands near critical infrastructure facilities protects our state, provides long-term stability, and preserves our economic freedom," Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson similarly stated last month, according to the filing.
"Food security is national security, and we have a responsibility to ensure Floridians have access to a safe, affordable, and abundant food supply," Simpson added in May. "China and other hostile foreign nations control hundreds of thousands of acres of critical agricultural lands in the U.S., leaving our food supply and our national security interests at risk."
The American Civil Liberties Union, which is representing four Chinese citizens who live in Florida and a Florida brokerage firm suing the state, claims the legislation will "cast an undue burden of suspicion on anyone seeking to buy property whose name sounds remotely Asian, Russian, Iranian, Cuban, Venezuelan, or Syrian."
On May 22, plaintiffs Yifan Shen, Zhiming Xu, Xinxi Wang, Yongxin Liu, and Multi-Choice Realty, LLC filed a complaint seeking a preliminary injunction.
The DOJ filing seeks to support that motion. U.S. District Judge Allen C. Winsor scheduled a July 18 hearing on the matter.
DeSantis is not the only GOP presidential contender critical of the Biden administration's perceived inaction to curb the national security risk of Chinese influence on U.S. institutions.
During her foreign policy speech in Washington, D.C., earlier this week, Nikki Haley, who served as ambassador to the United Nations under the Trump administration, called out how Chinese investors have bought nearly 400,000 acres of land in the U.S., including miles of farms near sensitive military facilities.
"And China has taken majority control of agricultural industries," she said. "This must end. The line between Chinese investors and the Chinese Communist Party is exceptionally thin."
"The Communist Party has abused our openness in extraordinary ways," Haley added. "It uses our economic freedom to threaten our security and food supplies – our academic freedom to corrupt our students and scholars – and our freedom of speech to spread lies and shape our laws."

There are two separate issues here:
1) If the US government has jurisdiction over interstate commerce then it certainly has an interest on foreign commerce, viz. foreign investment. How far this law intrudes on US Treaty level powers is up to the courts, I guess.
2) Seigniorage. When you convert currencies from one one country to another, for example USD$ to RMB there are 'problems'. Why convert the growing trade surplus USD$ when you can just buy local things that can be resold later at a premium? The Opium Wars with China was caused by a seignourage imbalance because the Chinese refused (officially) to accept foreign goods and only wanted silver -- the (unofficial) workaround was the illicit opium trade. In this case the ban on Chinese land ownership is kind of ironic don't you think?

/\ ...3) Chinese cultural memory: this may 'sell' well as a domestic political issue in Florida but I really can't estimate how much of a raw nerve this will hit in China. "Evil gweilo disrespecting the Middle Kingdom" and the Opium Wars can still trigger responses.

Some real estate taxing jurisdictions assign different tax rates for non-resident property owners. Is there any legal reason such jurisdictions can't tax foreign owned real estate at 500% of value -- every year.

IIRC Communist mainland China does not allow 'ownership' of property -- you lease for up to 99 years. Practically, of course, the oligarchs 'own it until a cabal in the CCP decides to take it back.
