[Garowe] The corpse count in Beledweynekabooms has climbed to 48, HirShabelle state president Ali Gudlawe said on Thursday, after at least ten more people gave up the ghost in various hospitals moments after they were evacuated from the scene.
At least 108 others were maimed in the al-Shabaab ...... Somalia's version of the Taliban ...Arabic for students... , functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda... attack in the city which lies some 350 kilometers north of Mogadishu, the Somali capital.
According to officials, the first blast within the town killed outspoken politician Amina Mohammed Abdi and her bodyguards outside the residence of HirShabelle regional President Ali Gudlawe Hussein at Lama-Galay military base in the evening.
The second attack, officials noted, targeted a military vehicle carrying the maimed people from the first blast to the hospital. The attack also claimed the life of former MP Hassan Abdi and a current candidate, who was within the vicinity of the town at the time of the attack.
HirShabelle state is yet to conduct elections for all Lower House seats and Ms. Amina Mohammed was on a campaign trail at the time of the attack that has been widely condemned by various stakeholders in the country and the international community.
Amina's body was flown to Mogadishu on Thursday for state burial.
Prime Minister Mohammed Hussein Roble said the initial attack at Aden Adde International Airport which left six people dead and subsequent twin attacks in Beledweyne were "related" incidents and organized in terms of the "targets and timings".
Similarly, former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud ruled out terrorist participation in the Beledweyne attacks, adding that there is a need for international investigations. Outgoing President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmaajo had claimed the attacks were "terror-related".
"There has been an increase in the number of targets on individuals who are voices for the public in recent times, and political space in Somalia has been closed," the ex-president said, just hours after former Hirshabelle President Mohammed Abdi Waare blamed the attack on Villa Somalia.
"Our thoughts are with all those affected by the attacks in Mogadishu and Beledweyne yesterday. We strongly condemn the use of violence to intimidate and disrupt the elections," added Kate Foster, UK envoy to Somalia. "The UK stands with Somalia in its fight against terrorism.'
General Stephen Townsend, the US Africa Command boss recently said he suspects the al-Shabaab terror group in Somalia may now have the capability to strike Americans outside of Africa, including in the United States.
"I suspect that they do. That's not widely accepted in Washington or in the intel community, but my instincts as a commander are that they do," he said while addressing US senators.
In late 2020, then-President Donald Trump ...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons...... ordered most of the 800 U.S. troops out of Somalia in one of his last foreign policy moves in office. In the roughly 15 months since then, U.S. forces have continued to "commute to work," flying in and out of Somalia for missions while leaving fewer than 100 troops in the war-torn country.
"I think it's inefficient, it's certainly less effective. We're not there long enough to get momentum, and then we start over," he noted, adding that it also increases the risk to U.S. troops who must reestablish security each time they move in and out.
Somalia is facing a security and election crisis as the country missed several deadlines to complete the parliamentary election which almost 80% of the seats have been elected while the remaining in HirShabelle and Jubaland face challenges.

[IsraelTimes] Paleostinians in the West Bank town of Jamma’in woke up this morning to discover their town had been targeted in an apparent hate crime, including an alleged attempt to set fire to a mosque.
A slogan reading: "Jews will not be silent when we are murdered" along with a Star of David, is graffitied on a nearby wall, according to images from the scene.
There is slight damage to the mosque in the arson attempt.
The Israel Police says forces are preparing to enter the town to collect evidence.
Incidents of vandalism against Paleostinians and Israeli security forces are commonly referred to as "price tag" attacks, with perpetrators claiming that they are retaliation for Paleostinian violence or government policies seen as hostile to the settler movement.
The suspected vandalism and attempted arson comes two days after four Israelis were killed in a terror attack in Beersheba, by an Arab Israeli man from the Bedouin town of Hura.
Jamma’in is located in the northern West Bank, near the settlement of Ariel.

I am suspicious of any hate crime, especially attempted arson where nothing is actually destroyed, but a calling card is left.

Lor lumme... above posted in pristine ignorance of that other graffiti story (just woke up, meself) in context of which (and of the surprisingly broad range of meanings for "lurcher" revealed by a quick lookup) I may seem to have been making a case. Heaven forfend.
[IsraelTimes] Police say they have seized 61 firearms from Arab Israeli gun smugglers, in what is the largest-ever bust of weapons smuggled in from Lebanon Hezbollahstan ...the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity™, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade... Three suspects, residents of Tuba-Zangariyye, are detained near the Hamovil Interchange in northern Israel, after a chase from the border.
In their vehicle, police say found 58 handguns, 3 assault rifles, and half a kilogram of an unnamed drug.
Law enforcement officials estimate the weapons and drugs are worth NIS 3.5 million ($1 million).
Officials have warned that the Lebanese Hezbollah terror group is attempting to arm Arab Israelis in order for them to commit terror attacks in the event of another surge in violence between Jews and Arabs.
