[AlAhram] Thirteen soldiers have been killed in an ambush by suspected jihadists in eastern Burkina Faso ...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other... , the armed forces said Monday, amid a surge of violence.
It was the sixth attack of its kind in the landlocked West African nation in under two weeks.
"A military unit carrying out a security operation in the eastern region was attacked about 20 kilometres (12 miles) east of Natiaboani on Sunday," the army said in a statement.
Security sources had on Sunday given a provision toll of 12 dead.
"During the fighting 13 soldiers were unfortunately mortally maimed and eight others injured," the army said, adding that several attackers had also been killed.
The rural community of Natiaboani lies 60 kilometres (37 miles) south of Fada N'Gourma, the largest town in the Eastern Region that since 2018 has been regularly targeted by gangs.
Fifteen youths were kidnapped during an attack on Friday in nearby Nagre, according to the country's information agency.
Violence has flared again in Burkina Faso after a period of relative calm after a military junta took power in January.
Disgruntled officers toppled elected president Roch Marc Christian Kabore after protests over his handling of the bloody insurgency.
About two dozen civilians and a similar number of coppers or soldiers have been killed over the last 10 days.
Burkina Faso has been struggling with jihadist attacks since 2015, when Death Eaters linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... group began mounting cross-border raids from Mali.
The violence has killed more than 2,000 people and displaced at least 1.7 million, according to an AFP tally.

...not one of Edmonton’s nicer neighbourhoods, one suspects...
and local authorities suspect that gang-related activities and issues may have had something to do with the shooting.
A Jets vs Sharks thingy? Got it.
Mohamod Mohamod,
...whose parents were particularly imaginative when it came to naming him...

Too many things against the narrative here for the media to seek the facts:
"Diversity" doesn't look so hot in this instance.
"Gun control" didn't seem to help much.
Dealing with this sort of crime cuts into valuable time the RCMP and local authorities need to spend on violent white supremaciss insurrectioniss truck drivers and their supporters.
You may now return to your maple syrup and crullers...

24-year old Mohammad Moiz Omar was arrested in Mississauga, Canada, after he attacked Moslem worshippers at the Dar al-Tawheed Islamic Centre (mosque) with an ax and bear spray. Fortunately, he was immediately tackled and restrained by some brave brothers, including a young 19-year old man. There were only minor injuries reported. Following this incident, many people assumed that, due to his name, the attacker was a Moslem. As we try to show in this video, there is more evidence available to us so far to indicate that he was an embittered ex-Moslem and atheist, and therefore not a Moslem. And God knows best.

[JPost] Huh? How did that happen?
The Shahed-136 drones were intercepted by the international coalition near Erbil in February.
Two Iranian drones shot down over Iraq last month by American fighter jets were set to explode in Israeli territory, the defense establishment has confirmed.
Well done, US Air Force!
The drones, which were downed by the international coalition close to Erbil in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, were said to be Shahed-136s.
Prior to the foiled attack, which occurred on February 14, Israeli security officials had been on high alert over fears of an Iranian response to a series of Israeli attacks on Iranian targets as part of the IDF’s war-between-wars campaign.
Last week, Hezbollah-affiliated al-Mayadeen reported that earlier in February Israel destroyed hundreds of Iranian drones in a strike that targeted the Kermanshah air base. In response to that attack, Iran fired 12 ballistic missiles toward Erbil targeting what they claimed to be an Israeli military base.
The confirmation of the reports comes a month after the Israel Air Force announced that two Iranian Shahed 197 drones heading toward Israel were downed by IAF F-35i fighter jets last year.
