The 'Fat Leonard' scandal is one of the largest corruption cases in Navy history
Leonard Francis, 57, a Malaysian defense contractor, bribed hundreds of people to obtain confidential information and boost his Singapore-based business
Francis was arrested in 2013, pleaded guilty in 2015, and his long-delayed sentencing is now scheduled for September 24
Federal criminal charges have been filed against 34 Navy officials, defense contractors, and the Glenn Defense Marine Asia corporation
So far, 26 of those have pleaded guilty and many have been sentenced to several years in prison
On Tuesday one of nine defendants in what was to be the first criminal trial switched his not guilty plea and admitted the charges
Chief Warrant Officer Robert Gorsuch, 54, confessed to accepting more than $45,000 in bribes from Francis including lavish parties and hotel stays
Gorsuch will be sentenced in November for his role in the scam
[NYPOST] Three people were killed and five others maimed by gunfire in six separate shootings overnight in the Big Apple, including an 81-year-old man blasted in the foot on the Upper West Side, authorities said. The elderly victim was injured and a 45-year-old man struck in the chest when gunfire erupted on West 105th Street near Manhattan Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Monday, police said.
Both victims were taken to Mount Sinai Morningside, where they are expected to survive.
It was not immediately clear whether the shooter intended to strike the older man.
Early Tuesday morning, an unidentified man was found unconscious around 4:30 a.m. on Walton Avenue near East 172nd Street in Mount Eden in the Bronx, cops said.
EMS workers tending to the victim determined he suffered gunshot wounds to the torso, police said.
He was rushed to BronxCare Health System, where he was pronounced dead. He's dead, Jim! The circumstances of that shooting were not immediately clear.
Hours earlier, Broderick Daniels, 28, was blasted in the torso in the vestibule of his own building, on 184th Street near 104th Avenue in the Hollis section of Queens, around 1 a.m., cops said.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Gang kidnaps five people within four days, forcing them at gunpoint to hand over their bank cards and information, then visiting multiple ATMs to drain their accounts. Police said the suspects are four black men between 20 and 29 years of age.

[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] FBI reveals that attacks on black and Asian people have all increased We watch the news every day. Who the hell's been attacking black folk? Jussie Smollett?
Hate crimes against Asian communities in the U.S. increased by 70 percent last year compared with the number of similar incidents in 2019, the FBI said
Anti-black crimes have also jumped nearly 40 percent last year compared with 2019 statistics
Hate attacks targeting white people rose to 773, an increase of about 16 percent
President Joe Biden issued the Covid-19 Hate Crimes Act in April to prevent the surge in anti-Asian American crimes in 2020 That clearly wasn’t effective. President Biden didn’t issue it, though — the Democrat-controlled Congress passed the bill into law in the usual way. He just signed it. But it isn’t fair to expect English reporters from the Mail to understand obscure American law-making practices...

Willing to bet many don't trust these figures.
Having repeatedly seen videos and 100's of News articles citing Black on White (BLOM) and Black on Asian (BLOM again)Serious Assaults and Murders.
Naval warfare of this type had been going on for centuries. The real operational interest is that Rome began the First Punic War without a navy or any naval experience. The Romans would lose a number of fleets in the experience to their ascendancy by the end, just like they would lose a number of legions in the Second Punic War. The Carthaginians were of Phoenician origin, originally a colony, with a long history of participation in this type of naval warfare.

The Carthaginians were of Phoenician origin, originally a colony
"Carthage" apparently means "New City". Which means "Cartegena" -- originally "Cartago Nova" -- means "New New City". Sadly, the chain was not carried on, and the New World namesake is merely "Cartegena".

Looks like an interesting combination of both tools; I always picture a solid, possibly ornamental structure not something utilitarian as well.

Skid, there's Roman art depicting rams, and it looks just like these. Specifically, there are coins showing the Rostra in the Forum in Rome -- a war memorial of sorts decorated with rams captured from Actium.
Augustus had another one built on the other end of the Forum -- decorated with rams captured from Antony and Cleopatra's fleet.

A Japanese study last spring of African statistics was supportive of the idea that Ivermectin could provide a benefit wrt covid. A recent follow-up tended to confirm. I think I saw that as a result Japan was endorsing the use of Ivermectin as another tool in the covid kit.

Once upon a time, the postal service and later the FBI went after charlatans. Now they go after anyone who threatens the charlatan's gig. Read up on Wilhelm Reich. He was a quack and was treated as such.

[LBPOST] In a first for Long Beach, fire department paramedics have recently begun helping police subdue people they believe are potentially violent or combative, sometimes by administering a powerful sedative to the person being detained.
Over the past four months, LBFD paramedics have used the drug midazolam on more than three dozen people as part of a new pilot program meant to bolster coordination between the police and fire department, city officials recently announced.
Nearly 1,000 police and fire personnel, including more than 60 dispatchers, have received training on how to recognize the symptoms of a person exhibiting what city officials call “agitated delirium” as well as coordinate a combined response, according to an Aug. 20 statement from the city.

Ketamine is a highly controlled substance — a young person of my acquaintance can only get her twice-weekly dose for treatment-resistant clinical depression at her psychiatrist’s office. I am deeply shocked that mere paramedics are permitted by the FDA to hand it out to undiagnosed, unwilling patients on the street.
Dozens of people were wounded by the blasts which forced the authorities to evacuate nearby settlements. The cause of the fire remains unclear, Reuters reported.#ArianaNews#Kazakhstanpic.twitter.com/aG9CuxukXq
An ESPN-televised high school football game raised questions after a mysterious online school somehow faced off with the defending national champions
Bishop Sycamore, an online school that is no longer recognized in Ohio, lost to powerhouse IMG Academy (Florida), 58-0, on Sunday in Canton
Announcers said they were told by Bishop Sycamore that the team had several top college recruits, but ESPN couldn't find any proof of that claim
The Bishop Sycamore website contains no information about the online school, its history, its staff, or its student body. It was listed as a school last year
It was later revealed that Sunday's defeat was Bishop Sycamore's second game in three days - an obvious safety concern given the quick turnaround
ESPN has since released a statement expressing 'regret' over Sunday's game, while specifying that the matchup was arranged by Paragon Marketing Group
Paragon president Rashid Ghazi said his firm was misled about Bishop Sycamore's roster and denied any knowledge that the school played days earlier
[CNBC] The Social Security trust fund most Americans rely on for their retirement will run out of money in 12 years, one year sooner than expected, according to an annual government report.
The circumstances, which were exacerbated by the Covid pandemic, threaten to shrink retirement payments and increase health-care costs for Americans in old age sooner than expected.
The financial outlook for Social Security and Medicare, two of the nation’s preeminent safety net programs, has deteriorated over the past year.

So much for the myth. It's a tax, that's how it passed it's first SCOTUS challenge long ago. They did keep two books till the '60s when the Donks combined the SSA books to the general treasury. As long as the government can print money (or the Fed pushes some button) it won't "run out of money".
#4
...I'm betting on a combination of the two - your SSA payments will be cut back based on what you have in your retirement accounts or by other pensions (for instance, military) you have coming in.
Then, when that doesn't work, they'll 'manage' the retirement accounts for you.

I thought covid was killing all the grandmas, shouldn't that help the Social Security budget?

Of the CDC's 614,531 claimed COVID-19 deaths.
485,290 were shown to be 65+
not counting how many of the other 129K were on SSD due to Health Reasons also.
Shouldn't losing a 1/2 million SSA payees reduce the drain on the SSA fund, NOT hasten it?
So why is the SSA Fund running out sooner?
Simple Answer:
Fed's paid people more to sit in their Butts from 2020---> than their employers paid and hence NO SS Taxes were collected.
[JPost] - People vaccinated abroad are not going to be exempt from quarantine under the new regulations that come into effect on Friday, the Health Ministry’s spokesperson has clarified to The Jerusalem Post. They will be able to skip isolation only if they had received the third shot in Israel.
The clarification came two days after the ministry announced that beginning Friday individuals considered fully vaccinated under new criteria will not be required to fully isolate when they enter the country — unless they come from red nations (at the moment only Bulgaria, Brazil, Mexico, and Turkey).
...both Israelis and foreigners vaccinated abroad who do arrive here have the option of undergoing a serological test through a facility recognized by the Health Ministry to prove the presence of coronavirus antibodies in their blood.
...Starting from October 1, the Green Pass will be granted to people vaccinated in Israel only if they received the third shot, have had their second shot or recovered within the last six months, or have received one dose of the vaccine after recovering.
[National Interest] The U.S. Army Airborne Reconnaissance and Electronic Warfare System aircraft, ARES, just made its first flight. The Army hopes that the multi-engine jet will offer a more capable intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capability compared to older Army Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconisance (ISR) aircraft. The aircraft in the graphic is not the ARES Platform but rather a Contracted Shorts-360 introduced at Balad and FOB Spiecher (Al Sahra Air Base VIC Tikrit, Iraq) in 2009 as an Army Research Lab (ARL) proof of concept. Constant Hawk conducted Persistence Surveillance platform flying counter-IED missions over Baghdad, Iraq. The Constant Hawk project was extended with AFG missioning flying out of Kandahar utilizing C-12 platforms. The old 360's went home to Milwaukee following the end of the conflict in Iraq.
The ARES platform is based on the Bombardier 6000/6500 airplanes, business jets originally designed for luxury flight, but that offer the right mix of range and payload capacity to serve in a specialized intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) role for the United States Army.
The ARES airplane is serving as a technology demonstrator for the Army’s High Accuracy Detection and Exploitation System (HADES) program, which the Army hopes can mesh "capabilities from the Army’s existing ISR fleet with capacity to add payloads, sensors and increase standoff ranges."
And in an ISR role, the aircraft would succeed. Boasting brand-new Rolls-Royce engines and a nearly 7,600-mile range, the jet can cruise at over 40,000 feet and has a flight endurance of over fourteen hours in the ARES configuration. "Flight operations above 40,000 feet enhance aircraft survivability and line-of-sight," according to a recent statement, and helped make "ARES and HADES key Sensor to Shooter (S2S) network enablers, the Army’s top modernization priority."

Maybe good for a 2nd/3rd world situations.
Provided it is not seen by a person carrying a CCP/Russian Mobile Shoulder Fired STA.
But for civilian tracking. The US Intel/Fed's have Internet monitoring sites, Cellular access points and down-looking Sat's that make a KH-12+ look like a toy for many years now.

Slap a Gatling gun on that baby, add some hardpoints for bombs and you got yourself one fine Close Air Support/ISR airplane. The beancounters will think they died and went to Heaven. Multi-role, Multi-mission, baby!
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Study of well-preserved remains shows one in 10 horticulturalists died after attacks that destroyed faces and sent brain matter flying. Horticulturalists? That’s what the ScienceDirect source article on which the Daily Mail piece is based calls them. Perhaps they planted small gardens instead of having large farms.

Copper and turquoise are crops? I need to plant my necklace and a length of pipe post haste.

Furthermore, absolutely having premonitions of what a speaker is going to say before they say it...i.e. understanding every word, frighteningly understanding JRB,jr., and talking to yourself in the mirror and receiving an answer from your TV set, even though you don't own a 📺 TV that works.
More on this subject later.

It is my understanding that the sarcasm tag is implicit in posts here at the 'Burg, but I may be doing it wrong.

China talks a lot. Put large objects into orbit takes heavy lift capabilities or lots and lots of launches to assemble in orbit. I haven't seen either capability out of China.

And what's wrong with wires? They can be incredibly handy if you need to strangle someone. Leave the charger in the socket I'll bet no CSI will think it was that wire.

They should build drywall with faraday cages built on the backside. It wouldn't provide 100% coverage but I bet there would be a market. Quickly turn one room into a faraday cage. Or sell sound-proof faraday cages to put your electronics in when not in use.
