Drugs pour in from Mexico as Border Patrol forced to focus on migrants
[Washington Examiner] LAS CRUCES, New Mexico ‐ Border Patrol highway checkpoints in the southern New Mexico region that normally seize seven figures of worth of drugs annually have not seized a dollar in nearly four months after being shuttered in late March, allowing drugs to flood into the country. Meantime, with the added supply, prices for illicit drugs are dropping precipitously.

Those seven checkpoints have sat unattended after Border Patrol closed them to move all personnel to the border to assist with apprehending, processing, and caring for the high number of migrant families arriving.

Seven elected officials and law enforcement officials in Doña Ana and Otero counties told the Washington Examiner in interviews they worry that with no one to seize the millions of dollars of illegal substances normally confiscated while being transported north to cities such as Denver and Oklahoma City.

Normally, vehicles attempting to traverse those counties would have to pass a sniff test by a K-9 officer, and the legal status of the occupants would be checked. But since the checkpoints closed on March 25, drug runners can move product up and down the open roads.

"The foot traffic over there is unbelievable ‐ coming through with backpacks and all that stuff," Sheriff David Black of Otero County said about Hidalgo and Doña Ana counties. "Here, we have El Paso. Not a lot of foot traffic coming through all sort of vehicles ... there’s a small part of Texas that’s between the Mexico and our border ... Most of [the drugs are] concealed in vehicles, in tires, gas tanks, stuff like that."

The two checkpoints in his county caught $12.7 million worth of drugs in 2018.

IS Jihadists Kill Seven Tuareg Leaders in Sahel
[AnNahar] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadists in southwestern Niger have killed seven leaders of the Tuareg ethnic group in less than three months, as part of a strategy to create a political void in the region, officials said Tuesday.

Three traditional Tuareg chiefs and four senior Tuareg officials have been killed since late April by the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara
The succulent fruit of the union of splinter factions from Mokhtar Bekmokhtar'sal-Mourabitunes and MUJAO. Once the dust had settled and the smell of gunsmoke had dissipated, they became the Islamic State in Mali, then adopted their present clever name. They are headed by Adnan Abu Walid Saharaoui. It operates along the borders of Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
, Niger, and Mali....

(ISGS) in the volatile region of Niger on the Mali border, they said.

Arrisal Amdagh, a Tuareg chief in the rural district of Inates, was rubbed out at his home in April, and his son Almoubacher Ag Alamjadi, who succeeded him, was killed on Monday, a Nigerien security source said.

Their deaths were confirmed to AFP by Defense Minister Kalla Moutari on Tuesday.

Four senior members of the tribe were killed by a roadside kaboom as they were heading to the father's funeral, their relatives said last month.

In a separate incident in June, a traditional Tuareg leader in Bankilare district was kidnapped and killed, a local source said.

Niger, one of the world's poorest countries, lies in the heart of the fragile Sahel region
... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas...
, which is battling an Islamist insurgency.

Insurgent groups are active in the west and north of the country, spilling over from a long-running campaign in Mali, while Nigeria's Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
is present in the country's southeast.

"The ISGS strategy is to kill traditional chiefs in the border areas," a security source told AFP.

"It's a way of voiding the area of an effective state presence, enabling you to move in and impose your law."

On July 1, 18 Nigerien soldiers were killed when jihadists struck an army camp at Inates, according to the defense ministry.

Niger is part of the so-called G5 Sahel group of five nations set up to manage a coordinated response to the jihadist insurgency in the impoverished region.

They are related and you don't want to piss off the country Tuaregs, they live by herding, smuggling, and killing and robbing strangers , I expect some Jihadists will start dying soon.

Colombian Drug Smuggler Had Cocaine Hidden Under His Towering Toupee
[THESMOKINGGUN] Spanish police last month arrested a Colombian man who allegedly had a half-a-kilo of cocaine stashed under his toupee when he arrived in Barcelona on a flight from Colombia.

The accused mule caught the attention of Sherlocks due to the towering nature of the wig sitting atop his head. A subsequent search of the suspect yielded the cocaine, which was inside a plastic bag glued to his dome.

The arrested man is seen in the above mug shots (click to enlarge).

Cops said that the accused mule, who was not identified, arrived June 18 in Barcelona on a "hot flight" from Bogota, which they described as an incoming plane from a narcotics producing country.

"The ingenuity of narcos has no limit when trying to circumvent the controls," police said.

Depending on purity and how it was cut, Sherlocks said, the seized cocaine could have yielded 30,000 euros (equal to about $33,500).

They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) have grabbed credit for a twin explosion that rocked the city of Baghdad late on Monday, killing five civilians and injuring several others.

Two jacket wallahs blew themselves up in the Shiite Abu al-Fadhel al-Abbas mosque compound in al-Turath district, southwest Baghdad, according to AFP.

A mourning ceremony was taking place at a Husseiniyah, a site of Shiite congregation, inside the mosque compound when the earth-shattering kabooms occurred.

A video circulated on social media appears to show those injured bring taken to hospital.

Islamic State took responsibility for the twin blast in Baghdad on Monday, according to one of their propaganda outlets, claiming to have killed and maimed 70 people.

An official statement on the incident has yet to be made by the Iraqi interior ministry.

Iranian bombings take toll on Kurdistan Region border villagers
[Rudaw] 18-year-old Zaytun Qadir was killed by an Iranian bombing on her home on July 10.

Two of her brothers were also injured. She was preparing lunch when the bombs struck.

Iranian artillery shelling has struck Erbil province villages that border Iran.

Despite the perilous conditions, some villagers feel compelled to return to their evacuated villages to reap the harvest of their land - in some cases, so that they can earn enough money to pay their landlords for land they have sublet.

U.S. airstrike kills two terrorists inside Nineveh tunnel
Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) ‐ Two bad boyz were potted Tuesday in an Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
on a tunnel in the northern Iraqi province of Nineveh, a security media cell said.

"Acting on information from the Nineveh Operations Command, the U.S.-led international coalition waged an air raid targeting a tunnel in Sukhairiat area in Nineveh," Alghad Press website quoted the cell as saying in a press statement.

The airstrike left two snuffies dead inside the tunnel, the statement read.

US-led coalition confirms airstrikes against ISIS for Operation Will of Victory

[Rudaw] The US-led coalition in Iraq has, for the first time, confirmed its participation alongside Iraqi Security Forces in its "Will of Victory" operation to defeat the remnants of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. [ISIS], as well as offensives conducted by Kurdish forces in Northern Syria.

An estimated 14,000 to 30,000 ISIS holy warriors remain dispersed across Iraq and Syria, according to the US Defense Department.
"CJTFOIR [Coalition Joint Task Force for Operation Intent Resolve] conducted a series of strikes against ISIS [Arabic acronym for ISIS] controllers this week in Nineveh in support of the Iraqi Security Forces," read a Monday tweet from Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), the moniker for the US-led coalition against ISIS.

In justification of their involvement, the tweet added that "since the loss of their terrain, ISIS has transitioned to resurgent cells intent on destabilizing the region."

The US-led coalition to defeat ISIS was established after ISIS swept across northern Iraq in 2014, taking over the majority of Nineveh province ‐ home to the country's second largest city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
‐ and threatening both the federal and regional capitals of Baghdad and Erbil.

The coalition has conducted 34,514 strikes between August 2014 and the end of May 2019, according to a CJTFOIR monthly civilian casualty report released on June 28, 2019.

The Iraqi Security Forces, alongside the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and with Iraqi and US-led coalition Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s, began Operation Will of Victory to eliminate ISIS remnants in the provinces of Mosul, Anbar and Saladin on July, 7 2019.

With Will of Victory still ongoing, Iraqi Security Media Cell front man Yahia Rasool tweeted a video of himself on Monday detailing the operation’s reportedly unprecedented successes.

"The Iraqi forces and PMF have reached some desert areas in-between Anbar, Mosul and Saladin for the first time since 2014 with the help of the coalition and Iraqi airstrikes," Rasool said.

"The Iraqi army, with the PMF and with Iraqi and US-led coalition airstrikes, has destroyed many ISIS bases and neutralized several ISIS holy warriors in the deserts between Mosul, Anbar and Saladin," he added.

ISIS was declared defeated in Iraq in December 2017, but continues to pose a serious security threat to the country. Militants have formed sleeper cells and resorted to underground tactics, taking advantage of security vacuums that have formed due to Iraqi and Kurdish territorial disputes in these provinces.

There are daily reports of ISIS sleeper cells carrying out hit-and-run attacks on security personnel and infrastructure, and kidnapping and killing local officials and civilians ‐ primarily in Anbar, Nineveh and Saladin.

An estimated 14,000 to 30,000 ISIS holy warriors remain dispersed across Iraq and Syria, according to the US Defense Department.

Regarding operations in Syria, the CJTF-OIR public affairs office told Rudaw English on Monday that they "will continue to work with allies and partners to clear liberated areas, train partners and provide technical assistance, conduct targeted CT operations, and support stabilization efforts."

"The CJTF-OIR mission in Syria remains the enduring defeat of ISIS working by, with and through our partner forces. With the territorial defeat of ISIS, the D-ISIS campaign in northeast Syria has transitioned from liberating territory to enabling local security and preventing resurgent ISIS networks," they added.

Regime Air Raids Kill 9 Civilians in Northwest Syria

[AnNahar] Regime Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s on Tuesday killed nine civilians in rebel-held northwest Syria, the target of months of regime and Russian bombardment, a war monitor said.

Three children were among the nine killed outside Maaret al-Numan, a town located in a southern strip of Idlib province, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The corpse count is expected to rise due to critical wounds sustained by some other victims, according to the Britannia-based monitoring group.

Russian and Syrian regime aircraft have ramped up strikes on Idlib since late April, killing more than 600 civilians, while 52 others have died from rebel fire, according to the Observatory.

Regime forces have also been locked in battle with jihadists and allied rebels on the edges of the bastion, which is held by Syria's former al-Qaeda affiliate Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else

The group in January took full administrative control of the Idlib region, home to three million people, although other jihadist groups and rebel factions are also present.

Turkish Army removes border fence in front of northern Raqqa town
Golly, it looks like everybody has fences nowadays.
[ALMASDARNEWS] Opposition activists reported last night that the Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces had removed the border fence along the al-Raqqa Governorate’s northern border.

According to the opposition claims, the border fence was completely removed north of the al-Raqqa Governorate town of Tal Abyad.

This move by the Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces comes just a week after the Ottoman Turkish media reported about a new military operation east of the Euphrates.

Over the last two days, northern Syria has witnessed an increase in hostilities between the Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces and Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG).

On Monday, the Ottoman Turkish Army heavily shelled the YPG’s positions near the key town of Tal Rifa’at in northern Aleppo. No casualties were reported despite the intensity of the attack.

Turkish military allegedly builds base in historical part of Afrin
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Kurdish-language Hawar News Agency (ANHA) quoted local sources in Afrin as saying that the Ottoman Turkish Army has turned the historical site in Jandariseh into a military base for its soldiers.

The ANHA source said that they were able to gather this information after seeing the Ottoman Turkish Army build three-meter-high walls near the base. The move comes after the Ottoman Turkish Army troops were accused of destroying artifacts in the Afrin region of Aleppo to build a base.

They would add that the Ottoman Turkish Army’s forces have built two military bases between Tal Saloureh and Jandariseh city and in the town of Dervish in Rajou region.

In a relevant development on Friday, a government cultural official said that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
is helping the bully boyz excavate historical sites in the areas controlled by the Ottoman Turkish military in northern Syria.
