At least 85 people were killed in the incident and about 400 were maimed.

The Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
rejected any involvement in the blast.

This latest arrest comes after eight people were sentenced to extended jail terms last week after being found guilty of conspiring in the Intercontinental Hotel attack in Kabul in January last year, a source from the Attorney General’s Office confirmed. The AGO source said the eight people had been found guilty of aiding in the attack and transporting explosives. The eight were not however named. The source said that three of the guilty parties were sentenced to 20 years in prison and five to 22 years in prison.

A group of murderous Moslems stormed the Intercontinental Hotel in Bagh-e-Bala area in Kabul city on 28 January last year which resulted in the death of at least 29 people. At the time however, one source said the corpse count could have been as high as 43. Fourteen foreign nationals were among the dead.

Over 100 hotel guests and staff were rescued during the 17 hour siege, including 41 foreign nationals.

The Taliban grabbed credit for the attack and said five attackers had been involved in the siege.

Eyewitnesses at the time said there had been an engagement party at the hotel when the attack happened and that button men opened fire on guests. The state-owned hotel, built in the 1960s, is not part of the global InterContinental chain. However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
guests believed it to be secure and well protected.

However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
witnesses at the time claimed the hotel's security guards fled the attackers and left guests to their fate. Hotel security had been taken over by a private company just three weeks before the attack.

Syrian girls attacked in Berlin, racism suspected
[DW] German police are investigating after three maiden of tender yearss were targeted in apparent xenophobic attacks in Berlin. In one case, a woman allegedly tried to pull off a 12-year-old's headscarf and stab her with a syringe.

A man spouting racist insults allegedly confronted two Syrian teenagers in northeastern Berlin and punched them in the face, authorities said Saturday.

He hit the girls, aged 15 and 16, "with his fist several times ... before fleeing into a shopping arcade," police alleged in a statement. Both girls were taken to hospital for treatment.

Hours later, a woman reportedly attacked a 12-year-old girl in the southeastern district of Neukölln. Officers alleged the suspect tried to tear off the girl's headscarf, pulled her hair and threatened her with pepper spray. The woman also allegedly attempted to stab the child with a syringe filled with what appeared to be blood, police said.

Officers from the state security police are investigating the incidents, which took place late Friday.

The suspected hate crimes highlight tensions over migration in Germany. Last month, a 50-year-old German man was charged with attempted murder after he deliberately drove his car into foreigners in the western cities of Bottrop and Essen. Eight people were maimed in the New Year's Day attack, including a 4-year-old Afghan boy and a 10-year-old Syrian girl.

Navy catches unarmed Palestinian trying to swim to Israel from Gaza
[IsraelTimes] Separately, mortar shell said fired at southern Israel, apparently fails to clear border; ’confusion units’ resume festivities with IDF.

The Israeli Navy tossed in the slammer
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
a Paleostinian man who attempted to swim into Israel from the Gazoo Strip on Sunday night, the military said.

The man was spotted as he approached the Strip’s northern maritime border and was captured shortly after he crossed into Israeli waters, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

He was unarmed and was handed over to the Shin Bet security service for further questioning.

The man will likely be returned to the Gazoo Strip in the coming day, as are most Paleostinians who attempt to flee the coastal enclave.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, Butch shot Black Bart's other gun out of his other hand......
Paleostinians launched at least one mortar shell toward Israel from east of the city of Deir al-Balah in central Gazoo, according to local media. The projectiles apparently fell short and landed inside the Strip.

The Israeli military said no projectiles landed in Israel.

The Eshkol regional council said residents of Kibbutz Kissufim, across from Deir al-Balah, reported hearing kabooms.

"We are in contact with the army, and the reports are being checked," an Eshkol spokesperson said in a statement.

No special safety instructions were given to residents.

In northern Gazoo, a so-called "confusion unit" also clashed with IDF troops along the security fence, after approximately two months without such nighttime skirmishes.

Members of the confusion unit threw Molotov cocktails and rocks, shined laser beams and set off fireworks at the Israeli soldiers serving on the border, across from the Jabaliya refugee camp, according to Paleostinian media reports.

The IDF troops responded with tear gas and, in some cases, live fire. No serious injuries were reported by Paleostinian officials.

The return of the confusion units to the border and the reported mortar fire appeared to indicate an intention by the Strip’s Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, rulers to maintain heightened tensions as the terror group negotiates a ceasefire with Israel.

Jordan sentences 2 to death for IS-claimed attack on crusader castle

jihadist group, overturning a life sentence handed to the men last year.

The shooting attack in Karak, home to one of the region’s largest Crusader castles, killed seven coppers and two Jordanian civilians as well as a female Canadian tourist, and maimed 34 other people.

The head of the kingdom’s state security court, a military tribunal, orders Khalid al-Majali and Hamza al-Majali to be "hanged to death."

Jordan’s cassation court, the kingdom’s highest judicial body, reverses a November ruling which sentenced the two to life behind bars.

"The actions of the defendants caused chaos, panic and horror among Jordanians and foreign tourists and threatened the country’s security and stability," a judicial source tells AFP.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
French Guns on Iraq Border Aim to Pin Down IS Diehards inside Syria
They’re certainly holding up their end of things.
[AnNahar] French howitzer-guns deployed in the Euphrates Valley desert just inside Iraq stand ready to pour fury on Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group diehards in their last holdout across the border in Syria.

Warplanes flash through the sky, followed seconds later by kabooms on the Syrian side that send up a mushroom cloud.

"We're less than 10 kilometers (six miles) from the frontline here," points out Colonel Francois-Regis Legrier.

He is the commander of Task Force Wagram, a French artillery group within the U.S.-led military coalition that backs up Iraqi soldiers and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) against the jihadists.

Dozens of 155-mm shells are lined up ready to be loaded onto three green-and-black Caesar gun-howitzers with a range of 40 kilometers (25 miles).

The SDF, a coalition of Kurdish and Arab fighters, announced a final push to retake the jihadist pocket in and around the village of Baghouz near the Iraqi border late Saturday, after a pause of more than a week to allow civilians to flee.

"The end is near," is the message from La Belle France's Defense Minister Florence Parly who visited the Task Force Wagram site in al-Qaim from Baghdad aboard an American V-22 Osprey military aircraft.

"The Death Eaters are leaderless, without communications, in disarray, on the verge of collapse. So let's finish off this fight," the minister tells a group of some 40 French soldiers manning the outpost alongside 100 U.S. troops.

Legrier, whose 68th regiment took part in the 2016 recapture from IS of the northern Iraqi city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, says there are "a few hundred fighters left in Baghouz, not more."

"Mosul, that was a nine-month battle and 10,000 shells. On this front, it's been four months and we're at 3,500 rounds," he says.

He points to challenges caused by frequent sandstorms and heavy rains.

Weather conditions have often grounded warplanes but artillery has been largely unaffected.

"At the end of last year, the pace was intense, we didn't get much sleep," explains Valentin, a 27-year-old lieutenant on his maiden overseas deployment.

- 'NOT COMPLETELY OVER' -
The lieutenant and his comrades are being rotated out next week, probably for the last time, as the mission winds down.

"The territorial caliphate, which has not yet been wiped out, is being defeated," Parly had said in the Iraqi capital last week, referring to the swathes of territory straddling Syria and Iraq seized by a rampant IS in 2014.

"We must continue the fight against IS and terrorism in the region because IS is probably in the process of reorganizing underground and spreading out," she said on her visit.

Since the launch of its al-Qaim operations, codenamed Chammal, French forces have fired off more than 18,000 shells and conducted 1,500 air strikes in support of anti-IS fighters on the ground.

"Our forces have been playing their part in full," Parly says in the desert.

But "the fight is not completely over," she warns. "What we want to avoid at all costs is for ISIS (IS) to regroup in clandestine forms, threaten the region, disrupt its stabilization, and also menace our countries."

Nearly 50 British ISIS members refusing to surrender in Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] Despite ISIS’s recent string of losses in Syria, many of its members are refusing to give up and clinging to the remaining sliver of land that they have under their control.

Many of the hard-core ISIS* members who have decided to stay to make a last stand are imported muscle, who went to Syria and Iraq in 2014-2016, with up to 50 of them being British citizens, the Daily Star reported.
Good. Die there.
The British newspaper further wrote, citing sources in the YPG [Kurdish People’s Protection Units], that a total of around 500 high-ranking ISIS* bandidos Death Eaters remain in Deir ez-Zor to pick up the fight with Kurdish and Syrian forces.

According to the estimates of several YPG fighters, clearing the territory of ISIS remnants could take from several days up to several weeks to carry out.

"The time to negotiate and play around with these gunnies is over. They need to give up or they die", an anonymous YPG commander reportedly said.

However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
the mop-up operations are complicated by citizens fleeing from areas occupied by the terrorist group. One Kurdish fighter told the Daily Star that "hundreds" are fleeing every day, with most of them being "ISIS wives".

In addition to the continual series of defeats by Kurdish and government forces, ISIS is reportedly also suffering from internal squabbles.

The Guardian reported on February 8, citing anonymous intelligence sources, that the leader of the terrorist organization, His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...the head of ISIS, or what remains of it, and a veteran of the Abu Graib jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us. So far he has been killed at least four times, though not yet by a stake through the heart...
, had survived an liquidation attempt on 10 January in a village near Hajin.

The attack was allegedly part of an unsuccessful coup organised veteran foreign fighter Abu Muath al-Jazairi, who now has a bounty on his head.

High ranking jihadist commander assassinated by rival group in northwest Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] A high ranking jihadist commander was recently assassinated in the northwestern region of Syria after a rival group opened fire on a checkpoint.

According to opposition activists via social media, the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
field commander Adel Abu Ibrahim was assassinated by a group of fighters from the jihadist group Tanzim Hurras al-Deen on Saturday.

The opposition activists claimed that Abu Ibrahim was killed when the Tanzim Hurras al-Deen fighters opened fire on Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s Tal Hadiya checkpoint in southern Aleppo.

Recently, the two jihadist groups have traded hostilities in northwestern Syria, prompting many residents of Idlib and Aleppo to fear a new war breaking out.

Large convoy of Syrian Army reinforcements pour into southern Aleppo
[ALMASDARNEWS] A large number of reinforcements from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) reportedly deployed to the southwestern countryside of the Aleppo Governorate on Wednesday, a source from the military told al-Masdar News.

According to the military source, the Syrian Arab Army sent a large number of troops to southwestern Aleppo and eastern Idlib after Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
was observed building up their forces at these fronts.

The source said the Syrian Arab Army’s high command believes that Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham is preparing to launch a big attack against the government forces in both southwestern Aleppo (Rashiddeen axis) and eastern Idlib (Abu Dhuhour axis).

The news of a potential jihadist offensive comes just days before the Syrian government and opposition prepare to meet at the Astana Peace Conference.

At the peace conference, the topic of the Idlib Governorate’s future rule is set to be discussed by the government, opposition, Russia, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Angry ISIS terrorists begin executing captured fighters in eastern Syria
It’s been a while since we had reason to use this image...
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
’s recent string of losses in the eastern region of the Euphrates River Valley has begun taking a toll on their morale, prompting them to carry out the ruthless execution of captured enemy fighters.

On Sunday morning, the Islamic State’s official media wing released footage of their Death Eaters executing their prisoners from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Among those executed by the terrorist group were two members of an Arab tribe from the al-Hasakah Governorate in northeastern Syria.

In the interview prior to the execution, the two rustics said that they were forcibly conscripted into the Syrian Democratic Forces, adding that they were placed at the front-lines in eastern Deir Ezzor before they were captured by the Islamic State.

The Islamic State often carries out these executions when they are on the verge of defeat; this has happened on a number of occasions in the past, with the battle of al-Safa in late 2018 being the most recent reference.

Russian jets spotted over Idlib as new jihadist civil war looms
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Russian Air Force has been observing the ongoing turmoil in western Idlib this week as two major jihadist groups are on the verge of war.

According to a source in Latakia city, Russian jets are watching the situation very closely in the Jabal al-Zawiyah and Jisr al-Shughour regions of Idlib as both Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
and Tanzim Hurras al-Deen appear on the path to war.

The source said that the Russian Air Force is primarily using their IL-20 spy planes which are usually seen flying over the jihadist positions when an offensive is looming or a drone attack was launched on the Hmeimim Airport.

Should a jihadist civil war break out in western Idlib, the Syrian Arab Army and their Russian allies may take advantage of this upheaval and begin retaking land from these groups.
