WASHINGTON (Reuters) - As the Pentagon weighs new troop deployments to the U.S.-Mexico border, Democrats in Congress are poised to usher in unprecedented scrutiny of a politically charged mission championed by Republican President Donald Trump.
Democratic Representative Adam Smith, the new chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, will hold a hearing on Tuesday with Pentagon officials he hopes will shed light on the costs, scope and goals of a deployment that critics have derided as a political stunt.
U.S. officials told Reuters the border deployment, which has fluctuated in size over the past three months, could grow again by as many as 2,000 or more troops.
Smith is skeptical about sending U.S. troops to deal with a crisis he believes would be better handled by judges. He told Reuters his committee may consider future funding restrictions for such missions.

If you are going to ignite a civil war, p*ssing off the troops doing their work isn't going to go over well. But go ahead, don't let my words give you pause.

Venezuela is about to go full on FUBAR and puke out a sh*tload of refugees. If the JCS aren't looking at the US border as a potential problem now, they should be replaced...

Dems know this is a tool POTUS will employ to thwart the caravans, future dem voters, and illegal drugs (inner-city commerce).
Given the recent news bits about the cartels paying off the former Mexican Prez, ya gotta wonder about serious money coming into the Democratic party from across the border. Pity if all the funding dried up.
[CNBC] Special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation is "close to being completed," Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker said Monday.
"I hope that we can get the report from Director Mueller as soon as possible," Whitaker said during a Department of Justice news conference announcing indictments against Huawei officials.
The special counsel’s office did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.
Mueller’s team of investigators is examining Russian interference in the 2016 election. The special counsel is also probing for possible collusion by Donald Trump’s campaign and whether or not the president obstructed justice.
Whitaker’s comment comes after Roger Stone, a longtime political advisor to President Donald Trump, was arrested in Florida on Friday. Stone faces seven counts, including allegations of witness tampering, obstruction of justice and making false statements to Congress.
[PJ] Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) on Sunday said that special counsel Robert Mueller's office must be embarrassed that they had to come to House Republicans for information they could use to indict Roger Stone on a process crime, and predicted that the "process of discovery" in the case will be a "fascinating" one.
"I think the Mueller investigation is really at the bottom of the barrel when they're looking at people like this because we already found in our report that Roger Stone wasn't colluding with the Russians, which, that was the original intent of all this, remember?" Nunes, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo.
"Supposedly Trump campaign operatives, so-called, were colluding with Russians," Nunes added. "They must be embarrassed that they actually have to come to House Republicans in order to have us give them the information, the transcripts so that they go and get Roger Stone on a process foul that occurred in 2017 that Roger Stone himself is going to fight. The process of discovery is going to be fascinating in this case and I can't wait to watch it."
Stone, a former Trump campaign adviser, was arrested during an early morning FBI raid at his house in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Friday and indicted on charges of obstruction, making false statements, and witness tampering as part of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.
(CNN) Former Georgia governor candidate Stacey Abrams has accepted an invitation to give the Democratic response to the State of the Union address, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Tuesday.
Abrams has been talked about as a rising star in the Democratic Party. She gained a national following during her unsuccessful bid to become governor of Georgia last fall. Schumer said he called Abrams three weeks ago to discuss the idea and that she has since accepted.

[Daily Caller] "What I’ve seen first hand is the dysfunction and dishonesty of the debate itself," Crenshaw said to Dana Perino on ’The Daily Briefing.’ "For the last few weeks what we’ve seen is the constant rhetoric from the Democrats which say ’we will negotiate this as long as the government’s open.'"
The Texas congressman commended President Donald Trump for calling Democrats’ bluff by temporarily re-opening the government and forcing lawmakers to follow through and engage in good faith negotiations.
"Walls work. They work as a mitigating factor from someone moving from point A to point B. They work as a funneling option as well so that we can move resources to where we need," Crenshaw said. "These things work, this is common sense, we all used to agree on it until it got political."
"It’s become a very polarizing political issue instead of a policy issue and everybody’s become an expert on border security," he continued. "The reality is that this plan came from the Department of Homeland Security, this didn’t come from the President Trump campaign, this came from experts."

Negotiating with the Democrats is like negotiating with the Taliban or the North Vietnamese.
At least with them, you could still shoot them. Unfortunately, not yet, for the progressives and socialist Democrats. If they keep pushing, things will get kinetic, and all bets are off at that time.
[Washington Examiner] Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., offered a full-throated endorsement of a "Medicare for all" healthcare plan and called for the elimination of all private health insurance in the U.S.
"We need to have Medicare for all," Harris, a 2020 Democratic presidential contender, said in response to a question on whether she would cut private insurers out of the American healthcare system at a CNN town hall in Iowa Monday night.
When pressed by CNN's Jake Tapper on if those people who enjoy their insurance could keep it, Harris said that it was time to "eliminate" all private health insurance.

...except of course for the connected. You know like the entire ward of Walter Reed army hospital that was for congresscritter along with the full staffing. While Walter Reed was overloaded with Gulf War casualties, the ward was basically empty.
Restrict each Congresscritter and family to a slot at VA or BIA hospitals for care. Let them see what government run medicine is like.

people who say 'Medicare for All' need to be asked if that means just part A (hospital) or does it mean A&B or A,B, C and D. If it means D also, does that mean free marijuana and does medicare for all include illegal immigrants

Medicare for all? These Dem candidates ignore the fact that retirees paid into Medicare all their working lives and they continue to pay into it after age 65. The Ponzi scheme will not work.
"The government that is big enough to "give" you everything is also big enough to take everything away."

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand it won't work. On the other hand it puts us in the position of defending Obamacare which put us in the situation of being fucked over by the insurance companies and protecting us from their just deserts.

I'd be the first to say nobody should have to pay for others' problems, but take a look at what an insurance pool actually is. When I mentioned ob-gyn I was thinking about abortion services and contraception.

Harris and everyone else are still at the fund-raising stages of their campaigns. She sees the private health insurers as great big sacks of cash. So, read her statement as "Nice little health insurer you got there. Be a shame if anything happened to it."
And no offense MM, but if you want to shut down the state insurance bureaucracies, you better be prepared to pry them from the commissioners' cold dead hands. Lots of rice bowls.

"MACA" Kamala just wants to Make America CA.
"MACACA" is a far more appropriate set of initials, i.e., "Make America CACA"
This could become a great satirical hat. You read it on the 'Burg first!

--- I went looking for a design-your-own ballcap company & found they wouldn't let me use that to design my own ballcap. Haven't found that design online either, though.
--- Also I forgot that "MACACA" is considered racis by French language specialists. Stealth application of bumper stickers in parking lots is a great prank, too.
[DAWN] Lamenting that the American Dream and its democracy are under attack in Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... 's United States, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, Senator Kamala Harris formally declared Sunday her candidacy to become the country's first black female president in 2020.
Harris, who was California's attorney general from 2011 to 2017, made her announcement to supporters outside city hall in Oakland, the Socialist paradise of San Francisco ...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964... Harris already announced in a January 21 video that she would run for president. She joins a Democratic field with several other candidates seeking to keep Trump out of the White House for a second term.
"We are here because the American dream and our American democracy are under attack and on the line like never before," she said.
"When democratic values are under attack around the globe, when authoritarianism is on the march, when nuclear proliferation is on the rise, when we have foreign powers infecting the White House like malware, let's speak the truth," she added to raucous applause.

Well, the country is under attack - just not in the manner she professes belief. A mirror would be helpful.
[DAWN] Billionaire former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz said in a TV interview that he is looking into running against Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... in 2020 as an independent presidential candidate.
"I am seriously thinking of running for president," Schultz told the CBS news show "60 Minutes" late Sunday.
The self-described "lifelong Democrat" said he "will run as a centrist independent outside of the two-party system."
If that’s how he feels about it, why was he a lifelong Democrat?
According to Schultz, 65, "We're living at a most fragile time." Not only is Trump "not qualified to be the president," but Republicans and Democrats "are consistently not doing what's necessary on behalf of the American people and are engaged, every single day, in Dire Revenge politics."

The problem with the Dems is that they don't have a viable candidate who connects with the American people. There are no "America First" candidates; candidates who are trying to build up the country rather than tear it down. Most are viewed as commies trying to tear down the country.

[PRESSTV] An American billionaire hedge fund manager is calling for impeachment of US President Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... , warning he would not support anyone not backing his current efforts in 2020.
Tom Steyer has already gathered an active grassroots army of seven million supporters and plans to spend $40 million in 2019 on the impeachment effort, Politico reported Monday.
"In Washington, DC, talking to pundits and congress people ‐ it’s super lonely," Steyer was cited as saying on Sunday during a visit to the District for a summit of his Need to Impeach organization. "Oh, God, inside the Beltway everybody thinks I’m a low-double-digit IQ."

Well, Tommy Boy, if the Dems defeat Trump, you wouldn't have to impeach him, would you?
[CNBC] House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has invited President Donald Trump to give the State of the Union address on Feb. 5, following a clash during the partial government shutdown that delayed the speech.
Will the temporary 3-week coverage still be in force then, or will it have expired?
In a letter to Trump, the California Democrat said she and the president agreed to the date after they spoke on Monday. The annual remarks were originally scheduled for Tuesday, before Pelosi asked Trump on Jan. 16 to delay them until the closure ended.
A week later, Trump told Pelosi that he would speak in the House chamber as planned. The House leader responded that her caucus would not approve the joint session of Congress needed for him to speak in the House chamber until the government was open. Trump then relented.

Pelosi wants to get Trump's speech over with before the next migrant caravan arrives. Don't want Trump going on about border security while a few thousand 'migrants' are trying to storm the border, eh?
#2
Trump should have done it on the specified date on radio from the White House. The left would have sh*t rusty razor blades over the "fireside chat" analogue...
