[ALMASDARNEWS] UN-sponsored peace talks between the Saudi-backed Yemeni government and Houthi ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ... forces began in the Swedish town of Rimbo on Thursday, in a bid to end almost four years of war in Yemen.
Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom and United Nations ...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly... Special Envoy for Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic... Martin Griffiths welcomed the two delegations for talks, the first since 2016.
Griffiths announced that the parties had agreed to sign an agreement "on the exchange of prisoners, detainees, the missing, the forcibly detained and individuals places under house arrest."
"This is a huge tribute to those here present," he added.
"It is now up to you, the Yemeni parties, to truly engage constructively and in good faith with Martin and this UN-led process. And you are in charge of your own future," Wallstrom told the parties.
"It can be solved," Griffiths said about the war. "It is resolvable, there is a way that we can resolve the conflict in the context of Security Council resolution, in the context of equity and justice and the aspirations of the Yemeni people."
"Stopping the war is essential, but it is not a condition precedent to discussing how to resolve the conflict," Griffiths continued. "We will continue to talk together about the prospect for a peaceful solution frankly irrespective of what happens on the battleground."

I guess the Muslims pretty much run the UN these days.
[AA.TR] Thirteen countries from an international coalition to defeat ISIS met Thursday to declare they have taken back more than 99 percent of the territory once held by the terrorist group in Iraq and Syria.
Secretary of Defense James Mattis and his Canadian counterpart, Harjit Sajjan, who co-hosted the meeting in Ottawa, issued a joint statement after the meeting.
"We will continue to adapt and strengthen our global network to counter ISIS's own network of foreign terrorist fighters, financing and propaganda," the statement said, referring to ISIS by an alternative name.
The coalition was created in 2014 when the U.S. announced a group to defeat the ISIS terrorist organization. It has grown to include 79 countries.
The two officials said they reaffirmed their focus on defeating the group, and said they will leverage military, intelligence, diplomacy and economics to ensure their success.
Last year, officials from Iraq, which is a part of the coalition, declared ISIS's military presence in the country had been neutralized following a three-year conflict.
Nevertheless, Iraqi forces continue to carry out frequent operations to decisively end the group’s lingering presence.
"We are confident that we will prevail," the statement added. "We stand with people across the world who seek a better and safer future."

[PRESSTV] Pakistain's military says it wants the US to pull out its troops from the neighboring Afghanistan in order to end a 17-year-old war there.
"We wish that (the) US leaves Afghanistan as friend of the region, not as a failure," Pakistain army front man Major-General Asif Ghafoor said during a news conference in the garrison city of Rawalpindi Thursday.
He also said Islamabad supports Washington's outreach to the Taliban ...Arabic for students... which want US troops out of Afghanistan.
Asked what Pakistain could do to help the United States negotiate a political settlement with the Taliban, Ghafoor said, "As much as we can, we will facilitate."
"What the US is expecting from us, and the foreign office is cooperating with, is that somehow they could have these negotiations with them (Taliban)," he added.
The comments came just after US special representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad concluded a visit to the Pak capital.
Prime Minister Imran Khan ... aka Taliban Khan, who ain't the brightest knife in the national drawer... , who enjoys the support of The Mighty Pak Army which dominates foreign policy, met Khalilzad earlier in the week and pledged to support a grinding of the peace processor with the Taliban.

Seriously - India can't support it. Gift it to the Peoples Republic of China as a new province. Sort of lebensraum and minerals for the Han to sweeten a tough trade deal.

Of course they do. They can continue to control the Taliban and run all the poppy farms and get rich. With the continual US aid to their country to boot.

I wonder whether that resolution would get a two thirds majority of our new House.

No financing for paleos or hamas from the US. It is a bottomless pit. Also the Migration agreement is anathema to the principles of this country. Starve the UN.

[PRESSTV] Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has condemned a fatal terror attack that targeted Iran's strategic port city of Chabahar, vowing that the Islamic Theocratic Republic will bring the perpetrators and "their masters" to justice.
The top Iranian diplomat took to his Twitter page on Thursday to react to the car kaboom, which he said was perpetrated by "foreign-backed terrorists." "We support our own terrorists, others are bad"
Earlier in the day, a vehicle laden with explosives went off close to a police headquarters in Chabahar, situated in the southeastern province of Sistan-and-Baluchestan.
The terrorist behind the wheel was seeking to force his way into the police post, but failed to do so as local security forces quickly intervened.
At least two coppersbit the dust and some 40 other people sustained injuries in the kaboom, which also killed the bomber.
The so-called Ansar al-Furqan terrorist group later grabbed credit for the assault.
"As we've made clear in the past, such crimes won’t go unpunished: In 2010, our security services intercepted & captured snuffies en route from UAE," Zarif wrote in the tweet.
He was apparently referring to a highly successful operation by Iranian intelligence services, which led to the capture in 2010 of Abdolmalek Rigi, the ringleader of the so-called Jundullah terror group. The bad boy outfit under Rigi was dismantled and he was executed later that year.
That operation followed a 2009 terror attack by bad boyforces of Evil that claimed over 40 lives in Sistan-and-Baluchestan Province.
"Mark my words: Iran WILL bring forces of Evil & their masters to justice," the foreign minister emphasized.
Sistan-and-Baluchestan -- which borders Pakistain -- has suffered several terror attacks targeting both civilians and security forces over the past years.
Iranian forces, from time to time, bust terrorist ringlets in the province, foiling their planned attacks and confiscating weapons and ammunition in the course of such security operations.
'ENEMIES SEEK CHAOS IN IRAN'S BIGGEST OCEANIC PORT' Meanwhile, ...back at the argument, Jane reached into her purse for her .38... Rahmdel Bameri, caretaker of the Governor's Office in Chabahar County, underlined the strategic significance of the city as a free trade zone, which has a deep-water port on the Sea of Oman.
Chabahar is also the site of a port complex, which is being developed in cooperation with India as part of a new transportation corridor for landlocked Afghanistan.
Bameri added that such attacks are meant to "destabilize Chabahar, Iran's largest oceanic port, and disrupt the peaceful and friendly climate in there."
