[LibyaHerald] Libya’s Ministry of Interior, aligned to the internationally recognised Libyan Presidency Council and Government of National Accord led by Faiez Serraj, announced yesterday that it had taken over the security of Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... port.
The announcement follows on from the announcement last Tuesday (2 October) by Mustafa Gadur, commander of one of Tripoli’s main militias, the 8th Force, more commonly referred to as the Nawasi brigade, to hand in his written resignation as commander of the force guarding Tripoli port.
One of the Tripoli militias, the pro-Islamist Nawasi brigade has fought to support the interior ministry of the internationally recognized government in Tripoli, so this appears to be an internal move.
[Al Jazeera] Cameroon ...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there... ’s borders have been closed, security personnel deployed across regions as voters head to the polls on Sunday to elect their next president.
Incumbent Paul Biya, 85, is seeking re-election for a seventh term amid ongoing violence and tensions in the country's English-speaking southwest and northwest.
Biya faces an eleventh-hour attempt by the opposition parties to forge a unified front under Maurice Kamto, leader of the Movement for the Rebirth of Cameroon (MRC).
Cameroon's electoral commission has long faced accusations of unfairly favouring Biya, who has been in power since 1982, making him one of Africa's longest-serving rulers.
The opposition has accused the government of plans to rig the election, alleging that polling cards have been forged and that voter registration has continued despite the process being officially closed.
Prominent think-tank, International Crisis Group (ICG), wants the concerns of the opposition addressed.
"In the absence of agreement on the rules of the game, opposition activists could contest results, possibly with violence. Fraud, including vote-buying, ballot boxes stuffing and the falsification of results, all of which are common in Cameroon, make such protests all the likelier," the group said in a statement.
Nkongho Felix Agbor, leader of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa (CHRDA), told Al Jazeera he is unhappy with the lack of unity among the opposition.
"The failure of the principal opposition leaders to form a winning coalition might just be the reason why President Biya will be re-elected," Agbor said.

[PRESSTV] Yemen’s Oil and Mineral Ministry has denounced the looting of the country’s oil resources by Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... , saying the move is a blatant violation of international law.
The ministry said in a statement on Saturday that Saudi Arabia transports Yemeni oil to the Arabian Sea through a pipeline which extends from the Rub' al Khali desert to Hadhramaut and al-Mahrah provinces south of the country.
It said that Riyadh’s move to plunder Yemen’s wealth is done with the complicity of the country’s former Saudi-allied government.
Stating that Saudi Arabia's recent move has sparked protests by residents of al-Mahrah and other provinces, the statement called on the United Nations ...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense... and the UN Security Council to counter Saudi aggression, occupation and looting of Yemeni resources through legal mechanisms.
Experts say the pipeline would allow the kingdom not to be constrained to the Strait of Hormuz or the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, both strategic choke points that affect its current oil shipping routes.
Saudi Arabia and its allies launched military campaign on Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic... in March 2015 with the aim of reinstalling the government of former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.
Yemen has no effective government for now, and the state affairs are now being run by Yemen’s Houthi ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ... Ansarullah movement, which is also defending the country against the Saudi war.

[Al Jazeera] Jailed Bangladesh opposition leader and former prime minister the loathesome Khaleda Zia Three-term PM of Bangla, widow of deceased dictator Ziaur Rahman, head of the Bangla Nationalist Party, an apparent magnet for corruption ... has been admitted into a Dhaka hospital following a court order in response to her deteriorating health.
Zia, 73, was taken from the abandoned 19th-century prison where she is serving her sentence on corruption charges to a top medical university clinic in the heart of the capital on Saturday, according to an AFP news agency photographer at the scene.
"She has been admitted to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University hospital," director of the clinic Brigadier General Abdullah al-Harun told AFP.
Her transfer to the hospital came just days after the country's high court ordered immediate treatment for Zia after her lawyers argued the government was putting her health at risk by refusing her specialised care.
Facing further charges of graft at a hearing early last month, she said she was "extremely ill" and that her arm and leg were becoming paralysed.
Her lawyer Zainal Abedin told AFP this week that Zia would be able to choose her own doctors from outside the state-run hospital.

[ARABNEWS] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire.... will impose fines on "opportunists" who use volatility in the foreign exchange rate to raise prices, President Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday.
"We will not abandon our people to the mercy of opportunists," Erdogan told members of his ruling AK Party at a retreat on the outskirts of Ankara.
Erdogan urged Turks on Tuesday to report stores that had imposed unusual price hikes during the currency crisis, and said authorities would raid those businesses if necessary.
Erdogan added that Turkey is open to all forms of investments and support, but it has not asked any country for money, as the country grapples with a currency crisis that has sent the lira plunging in recent weeks.

Opportunists, wreckers and saboteurs. Slowly at first, then all at once. Yeah, we seen this movie. How do you say "Welcome to Venezuela" in Turkish?
[PRESSTV] Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First ... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey... has ordered his ministers not to receive any financial advice from the American consulting firm McKinsey, as his country is in an "economic war" with the United States.
The president told members of his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) on Saturday that he called on the ministers that instead of receiving financial advice from McKinsey & Company, they should rely on domestic capabilities.
It was recently reported that Ankara was seeking advice from the New York-based global management consultancy firm to resolve economic hardships as inflation has recently been hiking with Ottoman Turkish national currency lira, losing almost 40 percent of its value against dollar since the start of this year.
The move has sparked harsh criticism from members of the opposition parties, who accused Ankara of handing over the country’s economic secrets to the firm.
Ottoman Turkish Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, who is also Erdogan’s son-in-law, however, said on Thursday that the government had decided to work with the private company, but McKinsey will have no executive powers. He also said that working with consultancy firms was totally normal.
During the Saturday meeting with the AK party, Erdogan also said that the country is not plagued with financial crisis and that this is "opportunists" who use volatility in the foreign exchange rate to raise prices.

[PRESSTV] The United States has reportedly decided to provide Israel with more F-35 stealth fighter jets.
US President Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... ordered the boost in the number of advanced planes for Israel after Russia deployed four S-300 air defense systems to Syria following an incident in which a Russian plane was shot down, reported DEBKAfile, a military intelligence news site linked to Israel
Moscow blamed the downing of its Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft on Tel Aviv.
Russia’s military says Israel is fully responsible for downing of a plane in Syria.
Moscow said its data proved that an Israeli F-16 fighter jet had been trying to use the Russian aircraft as a shield when it was shot down by Syrian air defense forces.
Military analysts believe Russia’s S-300 delivery to Syria boosts security of its personnel and prevents potential further escalations.

[Al Jazeera] Israel has announced further reductions of the Gazoo Strip's fishing zone, stating it was in response to the weekly protests near the fence east of the coastal enclave.
Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman's office said in a statement on Saturday that the fishing zone will be reduced from nine nautical miles to six nautical miles.
Lieberman cited Friday's "riots" at the fence dividing Gazoo and Israel as contributing to his decision, in addition to the midweek beach protests in which fishing boats and protesters gathered at the northwest end of the Gazoo Strip.
Three Paleostinians, including a 12-year-old boy, were killed in Friday's protest, bringing the total corpse count to at least 183 Paleostinians since the demonstrations began on March 30.
