[Reuters] Duquesne running back Marquis Brown died Thursday night after injuries suffered when he allegedly jumped from a 16th-floor window at a campus residence hall.
University president Ken Gormley informed students and faculty of the tragedy in a statement posted to the school’s Facebook page on Friday. In the message, Gormley alleged that Brown leaped from a window at Brottier Hall "after campus police arrived in response to a reported disturbance."
Per Gormley’s statement, Brown died after being taken to Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
According to USA Today, the Pittsburgh Police Department confirmed details of Brown’s death without naming the victim and said an investigation is under way.

Nearly 25 years ago I worked across the street in the old Fisher Sceintific building and a young lady jumped out of that same building, commuting suicide. It is unfortunate but it does happen and it is very sad folks so young give up so early.

French police have opened an investigation into the reported disappearance last week of Meng Hongwei, the Chinese head of the international police organization Interpol, a source close to the inquiry said.
Meng was last seen leaving for China from Interpol’s headquarters in Lyon, southeast La Belle France, in late September, the source said. His wife reported him missing.
"He did not disappear in La Belle France," the source told AFP.

Before being elected head of Interpol in November 2016, Meng was vice minister of public security in China, which critics say gave him control over the secret police.
He was the first Chinese leader of Interpol, which connects the law enforcement agencies of its 192 member countries.
It does not have agents of its own with powers of arrest.
Beijing saw Meng’s election as a chance to enlist more international help in tracking down alleged economic criminals, including corrupt officials, targeted by President Xi Jinping’s anti-graft campaign.
But the drive, known as Operation Fox Hunt, has led to claims in some countries that Chinese law enforcement agents have been operating covertly on their soil without the approval or consent of local authorities.
Since it began several brass hats have been detained and charged with crimes including "severe disciplinary violations," a phrase which usually refers to corruption or graft.
A French judicial official said the Interpol chief left France, where the international police organization is based, and arrived in China at the end of September. She said there had been no news of him since.

Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post said the Interpol chief had been taken away for questioning by Chinese authorities as soon as he landed in the country.

That would be murine or endemic typhus, which occurs in tropical and subtropical areas of the globe including southern California, Texas, and Hawaii. Symptoms include include headache, fever, muscle pain, joint pain, nausea and vomiting. About half of patients develop a rash six days after they fall ill, and about half experience confusion, stupor, seizures or imbalance. While it can be deadly if untreated, the antibiotic doxycycline is the CDC’s drug of choice.
CBSLA reports that the Los Angles County Department of Public Health is investigating "several cases" of the typhus strain and warns that it is a "disease that infected fleas can spread to humans." Fleas carrying the disease are found on rats, areas where there is an accumulation of trash, and cats, but pets do not get sick from typhus.
Fleas with typhus are a danger in "areas where there is an accumulation of trash," as such an accumulation attracts wild cats, opossums, and other animals.
At this time, the county health department recommends pet owners "Use flea control products on pets." They also recommend that people "wear pants tucked into socks or boots when outside" and "spray insect repellent with DEET on socks and pant cuffs."

[All Africa] A witchdoctor on Tuesday walked into the International Criminal Court (ICC) courtroom to defend former Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a perennial thorn in Africa's side rebel commander Dominic Ongwen, who is facing trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity. It was a first in history that the international crimes court is hosting a witness conversant with the underworld.
Camouflaged and with face and voice distorted, the ICC courtroom went mute as an unusual witness, a witchdoctor, walked the three judges of the court through the spiritual underworld.
Mr Ongwen, who sat in the middle of the public gallery and faced the prosecution team, uneasily smiled as he followed the proceedings.
He donned a black suit with a blue tie as he watered his throat from white disposable plastic cup.
"Back at home (in Acholiland) most people follow jok (spirits)," the protected witness told the court.
At this point, defence lawyer Krispus Ayena Odongo, who was questioning the witness, said: "It's quite revealing."
"I know it's also difficult for the court and other people from different parts of the world to believe that spirits actually exist," Mr Ayena said.
As the witchdoctor delved deeper into the magical workings of spirits, dozens of legal friends, including Ongwen's defence team, looked scared.
This prompted presiding judge Péter Kovács to guide away the witness from taking them farther the depths of the underworld.
"Leave out the general issue of the spirits, but you could mention what relates to Mr [Joseph] Kony," the judge ordered.
The witnesses, PW150, told court that Ongwen, the former commander of the alleged Sinia Brigade of the LRA, could have committed atrocities under the influence of spirits.
The witness said LRA leader Joseph Kony ... The Lords Resistance Army is a religious and military group formed in 1987. It is led by Joseph Kony, who proclaims himself the spokesperson of God and a spirit medium, and who is periodically possessed by demons, Beelzebub and Legion prominent among them. Kony advises his soldiers to draw crosses on their chests as a protection against bullets. This does't work, but nobody outside the LRA minds. The group is based on a hodge podge of apocalyptic Christianity, mysticism, and traditional Acholi religion, and claims to be establishing a theocratic state based on an odd interpretation of the Ten Commandments. The LRA is famous for systematic criminal conduct, including murder, abduction, mutilation, sexual enslavement of women and children, forcing children to participate in hostilities, and occasional cannibalism. The LRA operates mainly in northern Uganda and also in parts of Sudan, Central African Republic and DR Congo... deployed spirits to manipulate the minds and monitor activities of his forced recruits to fight the government of Uganda.
"If you are under the spell of the spirit, you only do what it instructs you to do. If it instructs you to kill, you follow what it tells you to do," the witness said.
He said Kony could be in possession of more than 10 spirits.
"Kony used his spirits to do wrong things," he told The Hague-based court, adding that had Ongwen disobeyed the commands, he could have ended up killed.
The witness said Kony's spirits were not controlled because he fortified his rebellion by capturing and killing all other witch doctors.
He said when Kony started killing the witch doctors, many fled their homes in northern Uganda. By close of yesterday, the defence had only presented two witnesses out of the 72 lined up to defend Ongwen.

[Townhall] On Tuesday, Italian police put Domenico Lucano, the mayor of the small Calabrian town of Riace, under house arrest for allegedly helping illegal migrants to stay in the country.
According to the Associated Press, Italian authorities charge that Lucano has been organizing "fraudulent associations" that arrange "marriages of convenience" for the sole purpose of helping migrant women to get around Italian immigration laws and avoid deportation.
The BBC reports that police have proof of the mayor’s crime via a wiretap of his personal phone:
Prosecutors said they had wire-tapped Mr Lucano's phone and recorded at least one exchange in which the mayor appeared to suggest marriage as a solution to a woman's immigration problems, in a way they said could not be misunderstood.
One excerpt concerned a Nigerian migrant who had been denied residence three times, the statement said. Mr Lucano is reported to have said that marrying an Italian citizen was "the only way forward".
As mayor, Domenico Lucano is in charge of the town's civil registry.
In the excerpts he is said to refer to a similar wedding in the past, and his ability to arrange a ceremony quickly. He is also quoted offering to acquire an ID card to say the woman was a resident of Riace.
The same authorities who put Lucano under house arrest also believe that he illegally awarded two local co-operatives with trash-collecting contracts in Riace without going through necessary public tender procedures that mandate specific rules for how companies must compete to acquire government contracts. According to The Daily Telegraph, the two co-operatives in question were specifically "set up to help migrants find work." Conversely, the BBC describes the co-operatives more generously as having been established "to provide work for the people of Riace and migrants." In either case, it appears that Lucano was not simply interested in helping migrants to evade Italian immigration laws, but was also promoting businesses that give preference to migrant employees.

In just over one day, at least 801,000 people have seen the post on Facebook, and more than 25,000 people have commented, most of them expressing their prayers for the Kavanaugh family. It may be more than Brett Kavanaugh that Dr. Dobson is praying for.
"What has stood out to me is how rapidly and strongly so many of our families responded with support and encouragement and prayer," Jenna Lynn Ellis, director of public policy at the James Dobson Family Institute, told PJ Media on Friday. "This sends our government a strong message that Christian families care about our government and policy and how it treats our process."
"No person in America should ever be subjected to the kind of character assassination and bad faith actions Kavanaugh and his family have gone through," Ellis declared. "I echo Dr. Dobson's call for Christians to lead the way to champion civil discourse, due process, fairness, and kindness."

[DAWN] A district court on Wednesday awarded capital punishment to a man in a 22-year-old case pertaining to a teenager’s abduction, rape and murder.
M. Sabir was found guilty of committing offences punishable under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 109 (abetment) of the Pakistain Penal Code.
Additional District and Sessions judge (Malir) Shafi Mohammad Pirzada pronounced his verdict, which was earlier reserved after recording the evidence and final arguments from both sides.
The judge wrote in his order that the murder of the 15/16-year-old girl had been committed in a brutal manner; she was buried at the place of incident with the intention to disappear/screen out the evidence of the offence; therefore, the accused did not deserve any leniency.
The judge found Sabir guilty of abetting/assisting in the murder of the girl by main accused Zahoor Ahmed and held that the "abettor would be liable to same punishment just as main accused".
According to the prosecution, the complainant had lodged a case regarding the abduction of his daughter under Section 11 and 16 of Enforcement of Hadd Ordinance at district Bahawalpur in November 1995.
Main accused Zahoor Ahmed, placed in durance vile Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages! in Bahawalpur on March 25, 1996, had disclosed during interrogation to have kidnapped the girl on the night between Nov 23 and 24, 1995 at the instigation of his lover companion Sabir with the intention to commit zina and sent her to Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... along with the co-accused.
After some days, the prosecution added, Zahoor also came to Karachi and both of them subjected her to rape, but Sabir instigated him to kill her when she asked for marriage.
They brought the girl to a house in Bhittaiabad where they strangled her to death on the night between Jan 23 and 24, 1996 and buried her in the courtyard of the said house, the prosecution added.
Advocate Naveed Ahmed Baloch, the defence counsel for Sabir, denied the allegations. No, no! Certainly not! and claimed his client was innocent and pleaded to acquit him of the ’false charges’.

[DAWN] A three-member special bench of the Supreme Court will on Monday hear the final appeal against the execution of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman sentenced to death for blasphemy.
According to a supplementary cause list issued by the apex court on Friday, a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar will hear Bibi's 2014 appeal (Asia Bibi v. The State, etc) on October 8. Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel will be the other members of the bench.
The court has issued a notice to the additional prosecutor general of Punjab 1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots.... to be present for the hearing. Also in attendance will be lawyers Syed Fayyaz Ahmed Sherazi, Saif-ul-Malook Chaudhry, and others.
The top court had last taken up the appeal in October 2016, but had to adjourn the matter without hearing after one of the judges recused himself from the SC bench.
In 2011, former Punjab governor Salman Taseer, who spoke out in support of Bibi, was bumped off in broad daylight in Islamabad. His assassin Mumtaz Qadri was executed in 2016 after the court found him guilty of murder.
The allegations against Bibi date back to June 2009, when she was labouring in a field and a row broke out with some Moslem women she was working with.
Asia Bibi, accused of insulting the Prophet Muhammad (PTUI!) during an argument with a Moslem woman over a bowl of water, was convicted and sentenced to death in 2010 despite her advocates maintaining her innocence and insisting the accusers held grudges against her.
She was asked to fetch water, but the Moslem women objected, saying that as a non-Moslem she was unfit to touch the water bowl.
The women went to a local holy man and accused Bibi of blasphemy against the Prophet, a charge punishable by death under legislation that rights groups say is routinely abused to settle personal vendettas.
Bibi's supporters maintain her innocence and insist it was a personal dispute, and the Vatican has called for her release.
But successive appeals have been rejected, and if the SC bench eventually upholds Bibi's conviction, her only recourse will be a direct appeal to the president for clemency.
If that fails, she could become the first person in Pakistain to be executed for blasphemy.

(Reuters) - Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals Inc (ARWR.O) said on Thursday Johnson & Johnson (JNJ.N) would develop and market its gene-silencing Hepatitis B treatment and buy a minor stake in a deal that could be potentially worth more than $3.7 billion, sending its shares surging 20 percent.
Under the deal, J&J’s Janssen Pharmaceuticals unit will obtain a worldwide license for Arrowhead’s ARO-HBV drug and an option to collaborate on up to three new RNA interference (RNAi) drugs, which use gene-silencing technology.
J&J’s investment comes a month after Arrowhead released data from an early trial testing ARO-HBV, dubbed "revolutionary" by analysts who also said the company was positioned to develop a functional cure for Hepatitis B.
It also follows the first U.S. approval for an RNAi drug - Alnylam Pharmaceuticals’ (ALNY.O) Onpattro - in August that affirmed the gene-silencing class of drugs as a new frontier in the field of medicine.
J&J will make a $75 million equity investment in Arrowhead at $23 per share, a premium of about 24 percent to the stock’s Wednesday close. Arrowhead will also get $175 million upfront, the company said in a statement.
