[AlAhram] Egypt’s new Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfik told his deputies via video conference on Monday that the country has made "good progress" in its war on terrorism, especially alongside the armed forces in Sinai.
In remarks released in an official statement by the interior ministry, Tawfik praised the security system and the effectiveness of its performance, which he said has achieved distinguished results.
Tawfik was appointed earlier this month, one of a number of new ministers in the cabinet of new Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
He said that the security services have been able to abort "a number of hostile schemes", adding that the plans of terrorist groups to target the Egyptian state do not stop at using funded elements.
Tawfik said the country’s police and armed forces are dealing with such threats with a high level of readiness, in an effort to protect the country from the path experienced by several states in the region who suffered from terrorism.
The Egyptian police are aiding the armed forces with Operation Sinai 2018; the major counter-terrorism was launched in February to target and destroy terrorist and criminal elements and organizations in northern and central Sinai, parts of the Nile Delta and the country's Western Desert.
The interior minister asserted the importance of periodic review of the country’s security strategy in light of regional changes.
He also said that it was important to adopt a strategy that includes intensifying pre-emptive strikes against terrorist elements, in order to deter terrorism.
Tawfik also called for the development of the ministry’s abilities to collect and analyse data and for the integration an information exchange system for state bodies, in order to dismantle the terrorist networks.
He said he was following up on the ministry’s attempts to protect citizens through its live monitoring of security cameras on a number of main highways and at vital and important facilities in security directorates.
The minister concluded in the statement by saying that the state will combat any attempts to jeopardise security or any appearances of illegal activity decisively and firmly.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Military strongman Khalifa Haftar ...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all... ’s forces announced Monday their "full control" of Libya’s oil crescent after driving out a rival militia, as authorities said normal exports were set to resume.
"Mopping up operations for enemy holdouts" have been completed, said Khalifa al-Abidi, front man for Haftar’s self-styled Libyan National Army.
Military commander General Ahmed Salem, in a video posted by the LNA, said the fields and oil installations in eastern Libya were back under the force’s "full control".
The LNA already announced last Thursday that it had recaptured two key oil ports, a week after they were seized by gangs led by militia leader Ibrahim Jadhran, although military operations in the area were unfinished.
On Sunday, a delegation from the National Oil Corporation, which said the violence had slashed oil production by almost half and cost billions of dollars in losses, inspected the Ras Lanuf oil terminal.
"Specialists are currently determining when operations may resume and will update the Libyan people and market in due course," the NOC said in a statement.
"Despite the severity of the fire damage to storage tanks 2 and 12, tanks 5 and 6 were saved thanks to the exemplary work of personnel on site."
Medics have said 16 LNA members were killed in festivities, but the number of dead on the other side was unknown.

[PREMIUMTIMESNG] The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) said it has deployed a Mi-35P combat helicopter and an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft to Plateau State.
Olatokunbo Adesanya, an air vice marshal and NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
According to Mr Adesanya, the deployment of the ISR combat helicopter is part of efforts aimed at quelling the crisis that erupted recently in the state with a view to restoring normality.
"The deployment of the ISR aircraft is expected to enhance intelligence gathering while the combat helicopter will conduct armed reconnaissance and other combat air support operations.
"Meanwhile, ...back at the chili cook-off, Chuck and Manuel's rivalry was entering a new and more dangerous phase... other NAF air assets are available at nearby alternate airfields to hasten the process of restoring normality in the State, as might be necessary,’’ he said.
Mr Adesanya said the exercise was in close coordination with surface forces deployed to the state.

So, to be consistent, the left would have to refuse service to the justices and take over the Supreme Court building. Go ahead, make my day.

They really should have a three strikes your out rule. If a lower court is overruled x number of times the members that voted are disbarred or something. There should be some penalty for political games with the judicial system..

There was the career of California's Chief Justice Rose Bird appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown, what a surprise!, and recalled in 1986. Among other things she felt so strongly about the Death Penalty that she was 64-0 in repealing cases that came before her -- her oath to uphold the laws of the State of California be damned.
Judges usurping the legislative process is getting very old...

The NAB chief, who made the revelation during a visit to a bureau office in Lahore, asserted that NAB officials were not afraid and would continue to perform their duties with dedication.
"Our struggle against corruption and malpractices will continue," he said.
Since Javed Iqbal took charge in October last year, NAB has filed 101 references out of 179 mega corruption cases registered with the watchdog.

[EN.ABNA24] An Iraqi lawmaker said the US is currently training some 8,000 members of ISIS in Syria for carrying out terrorist operations in Iraq.
According to al-Sumaria news, Ferdows Awadi, a member of the State of Law Coalition in the parliament, warned the Baghdad government against the plot.
She warned that if the government fails to take the necessary measures, parts of the country might fall to terrorists.
“Currently, there is an American plot being hatched to revive the Daesh terror group and help it to again occupy parts of the country’s north and west,” she said.
They are also seeking to entangle Iraq in a new war and create economic problems, Awadi added.
She called on all Iraqis to counter the plot, which also targets the “heroes” of Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces).

[EN.ABNA24] Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi has vehemently condemned the liquidation of a prominent Afghan shia holy man in Herat ...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns... According to the official website of Iran's Foreign Ministry, in a Monday statement, Ghasemi expressed regret over the liquidation of Mohammad-Jafar Tawakkoli, a religious scholar from the western province of Herat, and said such attacks which have recently gained momentum seem to be carried out with the aim of creating division among various groups and religions in Afghanistan.
He then expressed sympathy with the family of Shia holy man and said the Islamic Theocratic Republic remains confident that, like in the past, the vigilant Moslem nation of Afghanistan will foil the plots hatched by enemies and those who seek to divide the Afghan people.
Ghasemi also noted that the enemies will fail to break the unity of religious groups in Afghanistan.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist rebels have agreed to surrender the entire al-Lajat region of northeast Dara’a to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) after suffering several setbacks this past weekend.
According to a military source in the government stronghold of Izra’a, the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and their allies from the Free Syrian Army ... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund... (FSA) agreed to handover the 20+ towns they controlled in the al-Lajat region to the Syrian Army.
The source added that many rebels will remain in al-Lajat to settle their cases with the Syrian government, while the remaining will move to southeast Dara’a.
For the jihadist rebels, this is a major blow to their morale, as they controlled the al-Lajat region for most of the war.
Furthermore, the loss of northeast Dara’a only adds to the pressure that is already on their forces inside the entire province. H
With the al-Lajat region soon to be under their control, the Syrian Army will turn their attention to the Nassib Crossing and historical city of Busra al-Sham in southeast Dara’a.

[WashingtonTimes] Fighting will now take precedence over dealing with transitioning transgender troops, drug abuse and other issues as the Army seeks to overhaul its training regimen to hone its soldiers’ battlefield skills.
In a series of servicewide memorandums approved by Army Secretary Mark Esper and Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley and obtained by The Washington Times, service leaders are making optional previously mandatory training on issues such as transgender transition and drug abuse. The move, Army leaders argue, is designed to relieve stress on the overburdened troop training regimen and refocus on soldiers’ ability to fight in combat.
"The Army’s regulations and policies that deal with training were pretty settled, and there were not a lot of detractors to it. ... It was all the other [training] requirements that we levied on ourselves, or we had levied from other places" that led to the increasingly cumbersome approach to combat readiness, said Col. John O’Grady, chief of the Army’s collective training division.
Those mandated training requirements "served as barriers to maximizing time ... to build readiness and lethality" within combat units, he said in an interview. Aside from ending mandatory training programs on transgender troops and drug abuse, courses on media awareness and human trafficking have been eliminated from the mandatory curriculum, the service memorandums state.

A friend was talking to me about his experience as a US Army Captain commanding mechanized infantry at Ft. Polk ("Heh. I memorized all of the logging roads in the maneuver area and was the only one not to have to call the Engineers to come dig my TOW-track out of the mud!")
Anyway, he talked about having all of those 'VD Awareness' Drill Days and the like that had to be crossed off every monthly calendar. The only thing was to have as many as possible checked off on a given day just to clear the paperwork so time could be allocated for Combat Drills. Bureaucrats, *Spit*.
