[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Chief Executive of Jamiat-e-Islami and former governor of Balkh province Ata Mohammad Noor welcomed the announcement of ceasefire by the Taliban group.
In a statement released online after the declaration of temporary ceasefire by the Taliban, Noor said “Taliban should seize the opportunity & join the political process to help us realise the people’s wish for lasting peace in Afghanistan.”
The Taliban group announced earlier on Saturday that the leadership of the group has decided to declared ceasefire during the three days of Eid-ul-Fitr during which no attack will be carried out on Afghan forces.
The announcement by the Taliban group apparently followed the declaration of the ceasefire by the Afghan government.
Earlier on Thursday last week, President Ghani announced a ceasefire with the Taliban group and said the Afghan forces will not conduct offensive operations against the group from 27th of the holy month of Ramadan until the 5th day of Eid.
The declaration of ceasefire by the Afghan government and the Taliban group has been widely welcomed on domestic and international level as efforts are underway to end the ongoing violence through reconciliation.

[Al Jazeera] On June 5, Æthiopia announced it would fully accept and implement the 2000 Algiers Peace Accord that ended its border war with Eritrea ...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age... . It also said it would accept a 2002 ruling by the UN-backed Eritrea-Æthiopia Boundary Commission (EEBC), which awarded several disputed territories, including the town of Badme, to Eritrea. Æthiopia had been ignoring the commission's ruling and refusing to withdraw its troops from these territories for the past 16 years, making the demarcation of the border practically impossible.
Adis Ababa's announcement last week was welcomed as a major step towards permanently calming the deadly tensions between the two warring neighbours.

[Al Jazeera] The United Nations ...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense... is engaged in "intense" negotiations with the United Arab Emirates and Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... in a bid to avert a military confrontation in Yemen's port city of Hudeida that could worsen the country's already dire humanitarian crisis, Antonio Guterres, the world governing body's chief, had said.
The UN Security Council met behind closed doors on Monday at the request of the United Kingdom to be briefed on the situation after heavy festivities were reported in Yemen's third largest city on Friday and Saturday.
"We are, at the present moment in intense consultation ... I hope that it will be possible to avoid a battle for Hudeida," Guterres said.
The UN chief added that Special Envoy to Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic... Martin Griffiths was shuttling between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi.
WATCH: The war in Yemen - UN warns 250,000 could die in Hudeida
Griffiths is working on a peace plan that involves the Houthi ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ... rebels giving up their ballistic missile arsenal in return for an end to Saudi-led air strikes and a political roadmap, ultimately paving the way for a transition out of the crisis.
Hudaida lies some 230km away from the capital, Sanaa, which is controlled by the Houthis.
In recent days, pro-government forces backed by a Saudi-led coalition have closed in on the city, driving the rebels from dozens of nearby towns and villages amid growing fears that an all-out assault is imminent.

[Hot Air] With a new government in place in Italy this month, it didn’t take long for some new policies to come into effect. This is particularly true when it comes to questions about immigration and the ongoing migrant crisis. The new ruling coalition ran on a platform of being Euroskeptics who wanted to set their own immigration and border control policies rather than deferring to the EU. Now, in one of the first tests of that principle, Italy has denied a Doctors Without Borders ship carrying hundreds of Libyan migrants permission to dock at their ports. The usual suspects are up in arms, but the Italians want other countries to start sharing this burden.

[OANN] Rakhmat Akilov, who was sentenced to life last week for killing five people in last year’s truck attack in Stockholm, will not appeal the verdict, his lawyer told local news agency TT on Monday.
"He has made that decision, he will not appeal the verdict," TT quoted Akilov’s lawyer Johan Eriksson as saying.
The failed Uzbek asylum seeker was also convicted of the attempted murder of 119 other people who were at the scene when he slammed a stolen truck into shoppers on a busy street in central Stockholm on April 7, 2017.

"First our traditions don’t allow the election nomination of women and second the two candidates are not electable and therefore, their tickets should be withdrawn. If the party doesn’t meet our demand, we’ll stage a sit-in outside the Banigala mansion," PTI district vice-president Razaullah Khan told a meeting here.
The meeting was called to discuss the future line of action over the election nominations by the party in Mansehra district’s PK-30 and PK-34 constituencies.
PTI has fielded Maria Fatima in PK-30 and Zahida Sabeel in PK-34.
"Women candidates are unacceptable to workers and if their tickets aren’t withdrawn and aren’t given to winning aspirants, then the party will certainly lose those seats," he said.

[Al Jazeera] A group of lawyers defending Pakistain's former prime minister in his corruption trial have quit in protest against a court deadline that they say is too close to national elections.
Nawaz Sharif ... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts... , who was removed as prime minister in 2017 by the Supreme Court for allegedly concealing overseas assets, faces charges of money laundery, tax evasion and building off-shore assets.
The trial was scheduled to conclude this week, but the Supreme Court extended the deadline to July 10, a fortnight ahead of parliamentary elections in which Sharif's party is a frontrunner.
"We have decided not to pursue the trial because our request for an indefinite extension was rejected," Sharif's chief attorney Khawaja Haris told news hounds on Monday.
The court indicted Sharif, his daughter and son-in-law over charges related to his two previous terms in power in 1990s. The probe into the family was triggered by the Panama papers leak in 2016.
Sharif's previous two terms in power in the 1990s ended prematurely. The first term through a direct military coup and the second through forced resignation.

[OANN] Shi’ite holy manMoqtada Tater al-Sadr ... the Iranian catspaw holy man who was 22 years old in 2003 and was nearing 40 in 2010. He spends most of his time in Iran, safely out of the line of fire, where he's learning to be an ayatollah... urged Iraqis on Monday to unite rather than squabble over a possible rerun of the election his bloc won last month, a message apparently meant to defuse political tension after a ballot box storage depot caught fire.
Certain parties are trying to drag Iraq into civil war, Sadr said, adding that he would not participate in one.
Parliament has mandated a manual recount of the election in which a number of parties alleged fraud. A storage site holding half of Baghdad’s ballot boxes went up in flames on Sunday in what Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi denounced as a "plot to harm the nation and its democracy".
An Iraqi court ordered the arrest of four people accused of setting fire to the storage site, state television ... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
reported. Three of them were coppers and one an employee of the Independent High Elections Commission.
Iraqi authorities said the ballot boxes were saved but the fire has added to fears of violence.
"What Moqtada said about (Iraq) being close to some sort of armed conflict is concerning. The situation is tense and it seems to be on the brink of conflict," said Renad Mansour, research fellow at Chatham House in London.
Sadr, a Shi’ite holy man who once led violent campaigns against the U.S. occupation that ended in 2011, has emerged as a nationalist opponent of powerful Shi’ite Moslem parties allied with neighboring Iran.
"Stop fighting for seats, posts, gains, influence, power, and rulership," he wrote in an article published by his office.
"Is it not time to stand as one for building and reconstruction, instead of burning ballot boxes or repeating elections just for one seat or two?"
Sadr has in the past mobilized tens of thousands of followers to protest government policies he opposed.
The election, which was the first since the defeat of Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... turbans who seized a third of Iraq in 2014, raised hopes that Iraqis could put aside sectarian divisions to rebuild.
One of Sadr’s top aides said on Sunday the fire was intended either to force a rerun of the election or to conceal fraud.
