Egypt's top prosecutor refers 555 defendants to military court for joining terrorist group
[AlAhram] Egypt’s Prosecutor-General Nabil Sadek referred on Monday 555 members of ISIS-affiliate Ansar Beit al-Maqdis to military court on charges of forming 43 terrorist cells.

The cells' members committed 63 terrorist attacks, including the murder and attempted murder of members of the Armed Forces and police in North Sinai, a statement by the prosecution said.

The defendants are accused of supplying the terrorist group with funds and logistical support with the aim of targeting security facilities and military members in the governorate, as well as sabotaging a gas pipeline between Port Said and Sheikh Zuweid in North Sinai.

The prosecution is accusing primary suspect Ali Salman Ali Salem al-Dharaz of tasking a number of cadres with spreading ISIS's ideology in Sinai, which accuses the head of state, members of the army and Christians of being infidels.

The prosecution said that according to confessions by 216 of the defendants, the suspects were involved in the killing of Central Security Captain Mahmoud al-Zamlout and army Lieutenant Mohammed Abdel Razek, as well as shooting 10 security personnel and targeting armored vehicles, checkpoints and security locations with explosives and automatic weapons.
The Times of Israel adds:
Only 216 of the 555 suspects are in jug, the statement said.

Also Monday, a criminal court in Cairo sentenced nine suspects to life in prison on terror-related charges.

The Giza Criminal Court sentenced another two defendants each to five years on the same charges, which include joining the Islamic State

Three children killed by random artillery fire in Libya's Sabha
[Libya Observer] Three children - between 9 and 11 years old - have been killed as random artillery shelling hit their house in Hajara area, Sabha in southern Libya, according to the city's Medical Center.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pie fight, Bella grabbed the cocoanut cream...
the center also reported Sunday that two people - a 6-year-old girl and a man - were killed and over 17 others were maimed as random shelling rained down on civilian houses in Sabha.

Worth to mention that a previous statement by the center said the number of killed persons in Sabha festivities reached 18 and injuries hit 86 between February 4 and May 5 this year.

In the meantime, a source from the city said several residents from festivities areas near Sixth Brigade headquarters and behind People's Hall have been subjected to random fire since last February.

Tribal festivities between Tubu and Awald Sulaiman in Sabha got more intense in the last few days as abductions were reported from both sides.

Sources confirmed that a Tubu primitive who was under treatment in the medical center was kidnapped, while two Awlad Sulaiman rustics were also kidnapped from a southern Sabha district, which according to the sources was a retaliatory act.

Despite Presidential Council officials, elders and dignitaries' efforts to reconcile both tribes and establish a ceasefire and a truce, the festivities are still ongoing since last February.

Seven fighters from Libya east forces killed as fighting gets heavy in Derna
[Libya Observer] Clashes erupted between the Libyan self-styled army and Derna Shura Council in Fatayeh district in the east of the city.

The fighting started Monday morning as Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
-commanded forces, which are encircling Derna, arrived on the outskirts of Fatayeh university.

Later in the day, the forces withdrew as heavy artillery fire thwarted their advance.

Seven fighters from Haftar's forces have been reported killed and 15 others injured in Fatayeh frontline, sources said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pie fight, Bella grabbed the cocoanut cream...
the front man for the Derna Shura Council, Mohammed al-Mansouri, told news hounds that one of their fighters was killed in today's festivities, adidng that Haftar's forces pulled out to Martuba district - just outside Derna.

Haftar announced Monday in a speech celebrating the fifth anniversary of Dignity Operation in Benghazi, the "zero hour" to "liberate Derna" even if "we have to evacuate all civilians from it."

Derna has been besieged by Haftar-led al-Mukhtar Operations Room for a long time with the grip toughened last August disallowing the resident to receive enough humanitarian assistance since.

Nigeria military helps rescue 1,000 Boko Haram hostages
[AlAhram] Nigeria's military says it has rescued more than 1,000 people held captive in northeastern Nigeria by the Islamist murderous Moslem group Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
Brig Gen Texas Chukwu said Monday the hostages were rescued from four villages in the Bama area of Borno State.

He did not say when the rescues took place, but said the military and the Multinational Joint Task Force helped with the release of mostly women and kiddies. He said some men who had been forced to become Boko Haram fighters were among those rescued.

Boko Haram is responsible for thousands of abductions, especially of maiden of tender yearss and women, during its nine-year insurgency in Nigeria and surrounding countries.

Saudi airstrikes on Yemeni capital kill, injure nearly 100 civilians
[PRESSTV] At least half a dozen civilians have been killed and dozens more maimed after two Arclight airstrikes carried out by warplanes of a Saudi-led military coalition hit the office of the presidency in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a.

Yemen’s Arabic-language al-Masirah television network, citing its correspondent in the scene, reported on Monday that Saudi fighter jets launched at least two airstrikes against the building, situated in the packed district of Tahrir, killing at least six civilians, including a child, and maimed 86 others, including school children.

It added that due to the magnitude of the kabooms in the crowded area the toll could possibly rise, as the raids have already inflicted heavy damage to the surrounding residential buildings and vehicles.

Meanwhile,
...back at the cheese factory, all the pieces finally fell together in Fluffy's mind...
the principal of the Gamal Abdel Nasser School, close to the presidency building, told al-Masirah that an unspecified number of students sustained injuries, adding that the huge blasts threw the students into a sudden panic, prompting the school authorities to suspend the exams.

The report added that ambulances were busy transporting the injured to nearby hospitals and medical centers for due treatment.

Photos circulated in social media show disturbing images of panicked people, some partially covered with blood, running here and there, with streets filled with rubble, buildings shattered, and cars bent out of shape.

Yemeni forces launch 4 missiles at Saudi-run base in central Yemen
[PRESSTV] Yemeni army forces, backed by allied fighters from Popular Committees, have fired at least four short-range domestically-manufactured missiles at a Saudi-run military base in Yemen’s west-central province of Sana’a, in retaliation for the Saudi regime’s campaign against the impoverished country, Yemeni media report.

Yemen’s Arabic-language al-Masirah television network, citing a military source, reported that the Zelzal-1 missiles, with an average range of 150 kilometers, were launched against the Fardha military base, operated by Saudi mercenaries, in Nihm district on Monday afternoon.

The report added that the projectiles had hit the designated targets with great precision, leaving losses in the "enemy" ranks and its military equipment.

On Sunday, the Yemeni forces also launched a domestically-manufactured Zalzal-2 ballistic missile, with an average range of 210 kilometers, at the Ain al-Thwareen base in Soddy Arabia

Iraq
Mosul combat chronicle: ISIS assassinates politician, 3 turbans bound

Islamic State behind assassination of parl’t candidate in Mosul

Baghdad (Iraqinews.com) – Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the assassination of a parliamentary candidate at his house in southern Mosul, AFP reported Monday.

Unidentified gunmen had stormed the house of Farouq Mohamed Zarzour at al-Lazaka village in southern Mosul earlier in the day and killed him, then they fled the scene.

“Zarzour was set to contest parliamentary elections in Nineveh province on the list of the National Coalition,” a security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told AlSumaria News.

The source added that a security force cordoned off the shooting scene and opened a probe into the attack.

The Iraqi parliamentary elections, slated for May 12, will decide the 329 members of the Council of Representatives who will in turn elect the Iraqi president and prime minister.

The elections were originally scheduled for September 2017, but were delayed due to the country’s fight against Islamic State, which ended in December 2017 with the recapture of their remaining territories.
An Nahar adds:
The official named the slain candidate as Faruq Zarzur al-Juburi, 45, a Sunni from Shiite Vice President Ayad Allawi's National Alliance list. In a statement on the messaging app Telegram, IS said Zarzur al-Juburi was killed because he was "an atheist".

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Background on the Gaza Strip incendiary kites
[Warzone] As part of the latest flare-up (literally) in the never-ending Palestinian-Israel conflict, kites carrying incendiary payloads are being sent from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory, setting off a scourge of highly destructive fires. One blaze in the Be'eri Forest has been particularly devastating. Agricultural lands have also been set on fire by the wind-carried improvised weapons in recent days. Launches of burning kites have coincided with a rash of violent protests near the border fences that separate Gaza from greater Israel. Referred to collectively as the "Great March Of Return,' these demonstrations have turned deadly, with some reports stating that 7,000 Gazans have been injured
...mostly from the temporary combination of Israeli tear gas and the onion slices the Gazans tucked into scarves to protect against it...
and 45 killed as a result of skirmishes with Israeli forces.

Incendiary balloons from Gaza cause damage to Israeli fields
[Ynet] Helium-filled balloons flown from the strip land in wheat field near Kibbutz Mefalsim and in Be'eri Forest; with harvest time fast approaching, the damages to the fields are estimated at hundreds of thousands of shekels.

Several incendiary balloons flown from the Gazoo Strip on Monday afternoon caused fires in seven different locations on the Israeli side of the border. No one was hurt, but great damage was caused.

One balloon landed near Kibbutz Mefalsim in the Shaar HaNegev Regional Council, setting a wheat field ablaze.

Another caused a fire in the Be'eri Forest in the Eshkol Regional Council.

Firefighting teams and KKL foresters were working to put out the fires.

The incendiary balloons, like incendiary kites, are affixed with an already-lit Molotov cocktail.

The westerly winds push the balloons, which are filled with helium gas, towards Israel. After a short while in the air, the fire from the Molotov cocktail causes the balloon to explode in midair, with the incendiary contraption dropping to the ground.

The IDF has been working on a solution to thwart these contraptions by intercepting them using drones before they can land in Israel and cause damage.

Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon visited the Gazoo border area on Sunday, announcing the State of Israel will compensate farmers whose fields were damaged by the incendiary kites and balloons.

Farmers estimated the damages to their fields at hundreds of thousands of shekels, as the fields that caught fire were nearing harvest time.

Three Abu Sayyaf rebels killed in Patikul clash
[SunStar] At least three Abu Sayyaf militants were killed and seven soldiers were injured in a clash on Monday morning during operations in Patikul town, Sulu to rescue police personnel abducted by the terrorists. An undetermined number of Abu Sayyaf militants were also hurt in the encounter and in the airstrikes and artillery bombardment that followed.

Military spokesman Cirilito Sobejana said troops were on a rescue mission when they got into a gun battle with some 70 Abu Sayyaf rebels at Sitio Sangay, Barangay Buhanginan, Patikul town. He said the Abu Sayyaf faction was led by Idang Susukan and Almujer Yadah, both believed responsible for the abduction of Benierose Alvarez and Dinah Gumahad in the same town on April 29. The militants also seized the companions of the policemen, Jakosalem Ahamad Blas and Faizal Ahidji.

Three Abu Sayyaf killed in the encounter were initially identified as Moktar, Julhadi and Surayb. They were carried away by their fleeing comrades, the military said. Sobejana said, "The clash resulted in seven soldiers wounded... A number of ASG (Abu Sayyaf group) members are also believed to have been wounded as bloodstains were seen along the ASG's withdrawal route."

He said military units near the operation area pursued the withdrawing rebels, who were also hit by artillery as they ran away. MG-520 attack helicopters provided air support.

Wild-plant collector gunned down in southern Thailand
[Bangkok Post] A collector wild plants was gunned down and his companion injured in an attack by two armed men who seized the victims’ homemade guns in Narathiwat province on Saturday morning.

The body of Thanom Suksathan was found lying in a pool of blood on a road in Rangae district when police and soldiers arrived at the scene. Three spent M16 cartridges were found on the road.

Charan Muangmun, who was hurt in the attack, told police he was driving a motorcycle with Thanom riding pillion at the time. They were going to gather forest products and hunt wild animals when two armed men emerged from the roadside trees and opened fire. Two bullets were fired, one hitting Thanom in the back and the other glancing off his chin.

The attack sent the motorbike veering into a ditch, and Mr Charan ran into the forest to seek safety. The two gunmen then walked towards Thanom and shot him in the head at a close range. They dragged the bike to the middle of the road and were going to set it ablaze but changed their minds after they saw local residents nearby.

Police said they believed the attack might be related to the ongoing southern unrest.

30 regime forces killed fighting IS group in Damascus: Monitor
[AlAhram] More than 30 Syrian government troops have been killed in a southern district of the capital in a fierce counter-offensive by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group fighters, a monitor said Monday.

Regime forces are seeking to end IS's years-long foothold in the Paleostinian camp of Yarmuk and neighbouring district of Hajar al-Aswad, both in southern Damascus.

Last week, troops managed to sever a route linking the two areas, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said, but IS launched a fightback at the weekend and successfully reopened it.

"Their hit-and-run operations have continued since then, killing a total of 31 regime forces, mostly in ambushes," said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Britannia-based Observatory.

"The regime has since been advancing slowly, taking some positions and buildings, but there hasn't been any strategic advance since Saturday," he told AFP.

Regime troops control 60 percent of Hajar al-Aswad, while IS still holds more than 80 percent of Yarmuk.

Forces loyal to Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
were pounding both districts with air strikes and shelling on Monday, Abdel Rahman said.

Since the start of the offensive in mid-April, more than 150 regime forces have been killed, as well as 120 IS fighters, the Observatory said.

Another 47 civilians also died in the fighting.

Yarmuk was once a thriving Paleostinian camp that was home to around 160,000 people but only a few hundred are expected to still remain.

Syria's government besieged the camp in 2012, and IS overran large swathes of it three years later.
