[Al Ahram] A Kuwaiti court handed several politicians jail terms on Monday for forcing their way into the parliament building in 2011 - a move that could cause political turbulence in the Gulf Arab region's most liberal state.
Protesters burst into parliament in 2011 after politicians had been denied the right to question then prime minister Sheikh Nasser al-Mohammad al-Sabah about corruption allegations.
Kuwait's al-Qabas newspaper said the court sentenced current MPs Jamaan al-Harbash and Waleed al-Tabtabai to five years and MP Mohammed al-Mutair to one year.
An outspoken former parliament deputy, Musallam al-Barrak, who earlier this year finished serving a two-year prison sentence for insulting the country's ruler, was sentenced to seven years.
The MPs have a considerable political following, especially among Kuwait's traditional tribes which have influence in areas outside the main cities.
Kuwait avoided mass Arab Spring-style unrest though citizens held large street protests in 2012 after the Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah changed the electoral law.
While Kuwait allows more freedom of speech than some other Gulf Arab states, the emir has the last say in state affairs.
There have been a series of political trials and authorities have revoked citizenship of some Kuwaitis in the past several years that have drawn rebuke abroad and anger at home.

[Telegraph] John Profumo, the Tory minister forced out following a notorious 1960s sex scandal, was for years in correspondence with a glamorous German spy, sending her endearing notes on Commons notepaper, according to newly declassified MI5 records.
The politician met the model Gisela Winegard at Oxford in the 1930s before she went on to work for German intelligence in wartime Paris, and kept in touch until at least the 1950s.
Her file released at the National Archives in Kew also includes claims made by her husband that the couple had separated because he found compromising letters to her from Mr Profumo.
At the height of the Profumo Affair in 1963, MI6 sent a letter and files to MI5 investigations head Arthur Martin about Profumo’s contacts with Winegard, maiden name Klein, and outlining her exploits.
The MI6 officer, Cyril Mackay, wrote: "Although it is not particularly relevant to the current notorious case, Geoffrey thought you might like to have for your files the attached copy of a report from our representative [redacted], dated 2nd October 1950, which makes mention of an association between Gisela Klein and Profumo which began ca 1933 and had apparently not ceased at the time of this report."

Mr Profumo’s political downfall came in 1963 when was forced to resign amid lurid disclosures of high-society sex parties and claims he had shared a mistress, Christine Keeler, with a Soviet defence attache. He quit politics and devoted himself to charity work, going on to receive the CBE before dying aged 91 in 2006.
'Penance' for such sordid sins took a lifetime to achieve.
[IMAGES.DAWN] An official announcement by the Kensington Palace reads: “His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms Meghan Markle. The wedding will take place in spring 2018. I read another article that was titled "Megan Markle won't reign as 'black princess'" or something like that, bitching that the royals aren't hopping up and down shouting that she's 'black.' Had I not seen that article, I'd never have known.

Harry blew it. If he had to hit on a "Suits" actress, Sarah Rafferty would have been the best choice, though I guess a half-Irish wife would be less acceptable to the powers that be than Ms. Markle.
[Al Jazeera] Hondurans remain on edge hours after polls closed in the presidential election as official results were suspended and two candidates declared themselves the next president of the Central American country.
The Supreme Electoral Tribunal released its first report of preliminary results nearly 10 hours after polls closed showing Opposition Alliance candidate Salvador Nasralla in the lead with 45.17 percent. He was followed by President Juan Orlando Hernandez of the National Party with 40.21 percent and Luis Zelaya of the Liberal Party with 13.77 percent with 57 percent of votes counted.
Ramiro Lobo, the magistrate of the tribunal told media on Monday morning that the trend of the results was "irreversible."
Political analyst Victor Meza, director of the Honduran investigative centre known as CEDOH and former interior minister, agreed.
"The trend is irreversible and Mr. Nasralla won the election," Meza said.
"The victory of the opposition represents the defeat of presidential continuity, political authoritarianism, and also the defeat of corruption," he added.

Nasralla was a leftist sports caster. The NFL finally has a flag they can get off their knees for.

The ill-advised attack by Ukrainian forces at Frunze November 23rd is receiving sharp criticism, including from some Ukrainian officials, according to Ukrainian and Russian language news reports.
The nocturnal attack cost the Ukrainian 58th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade three men killed in action, four wounded and one captured.
According to information provided by official rebel accounts at the website of the Donetsk ministry of defense, the November 23rd attack and one that took place just prior, north of Gorlovka were part of military plans revealed accidentally on a Ukrainian ministry of defense website.
According to the defense spokesman for the Donetsk breakaway republic, details of ambitious plans by the Ukrainian staff in Kiev were displayed after a meeting in Kiev between parts of the MoD, including defense chief General Viktor Muzenko and the affected maneuver brigade commanders. The meeting took place the week before.
Donetsk rebel spokesman Lt. Colonel Eduard Basurin said in a November 26th press release that plans for renewed offensive action by the Ukrainians centered around the Svetodarsk arc region just north of Debaltsevo in eastern Donetsk/far western Lugansk. Part of the presentation included a number of printed cards to describe the Ukrainians plans, according to Col. Basurin. That data was promptly displayed on a Ukrainian ministry of defense page, which pro Ukrainian activists noticed and announced on social media.
Basurin said that by the time the error was discovered, the Ukrainian probe into Frunze was tipped off. The day before, the Ukrainian advance into Gladosovo and Travnevoye, which is west of the Svetodarsk arc, took elements of the Ukrainian 54th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade into an area Basurin claimed gave Ukrainian forces "no tactical advantage", due to it being surrounded by heights. The volunteer 24th "Aydar" Battalion also took part in the capturing of the villages.
The Svetodarsk region, which is primarily a road between Artemovsk surrounded by lakes, north of the Svetodarsk arc -- and a main logistics hub for the Ukrainians in the region -- and Debaltsevo, has been a severe issue between the fighting forces since the fall of Debaltsevo in February, 2015. The month long battle was extremely bloody for both sides, including the rebels who captured the town.
Since early 2015, Ukrainians have attempted to mount two major attacks meant to break the line of dug-in rebel troops in front of Logvinovo. Logvinovo is the only settlement of any size on the highway between Artemovsk and Debaltsevo. The attacks were costly for the Ukrainians. The rebels have yet to reveal the extent of their losses.
Col. Basurin pointed out in another news release that the failure of the Frunze attack could be laid solely at General Muzenko's feet.
Now, according to a separate news account in Vesti-ukr.com, the attack on Frunze is being characterized as "unauthorized", which could be true, since Col. Basurin hastened to add in another account that responsibility for the failed attack was not on the newly appointed Ukrainian commander in the region, Lt. General Mykhailo Zabrodsky.
According to the vesti-ukr.com account, adviser to Ukrainian president Piotr Poroshenko, Yury Biryukov said the attack was undertaken by unidentified officers within the staff of the 58th Motorized Rifle Brigade, who were "seeking glory."
Lugansk
Rebels and Ukrainian media said that both sides exchanged artillery fire in Lugansk.
Ukrainian media said that the rebels fired 82mm mortar fire into Krymskoye on Sunday.
Rebels said that Ukrainian forces fired 82mm and 120mm mortar fire on towns south and east of the Svetodarsk region, including at Kalinovka, Kalinovo, Logvinovo and Slavyanoserbsk.
Donetsk
On Monday, Ukrainian media reported exchanges of gunfire in southern Donetsk, at Vodnovo and Gnutovo. Near Donetsk city, rebels fired on Ukrainian positions at Avdievka.
On Sunday, according to a news report in gorlovka-pravda.dn.ua, a residential building in Zaitsevo was destroyed by fire after it was hit by Ukrainian artillery fire.
Also on Sunday, the Donetsk ministry of defense website said that two more buildings in Dokuchaevsk were damaged by Ukrainian direct fire from infantry fighting vehicles and heavy machine guns.

North Korea has fired another ballistic missile, the US military has now confirmed.
The missile was launched eastward from Pyongsong in North Korea's South Pyongan Province during the middle of the night local time, according to a statement issued by the South Korean Military's joint chiefs of staff today.
The news was confirmed by a US Government source.
South Korean and American officials are currently working together to determine the missile's trajectory and Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has ordered an emergency cabinet meeting.

Pudgy needs to be neutralized BEFORE he has armed these missiles with nukes.
[Newsweek] Ships believed to have come from North Korea and filled with dead bodies and skeletons have been washing up on the west coast of Japan, as desperate fishermen are forced further and further out to sea in search of a catch.
Japanese authorities said Monday they uncovered the skeletons of eight individuals from the hull of one wooden boat that washed ashore on Miyazawa beach in the northwest of Japan's main island of Honshu.
According to CNN the unidentified "ghost ship" was spotted by the Akita Coast Guard drifting offshore Friday but it wasn’t until it came into land that the grisly discovery was made.
It is not entirely clear the boat came from North Korea but the discovery of the wooden vessel fits a pattern of debris and other boats being washed up from the waters of the hermit nation on the Japanese coast, officials said.

This has been happening for a few years now. Speculation is the dead are army soldiers with little or no experience fishing on the open ocean. Goes to show just how desperate the NORKS are for something to eat.

[Feral Jundi] Finally.... Man, what an incredibly exhausting and horrible experience for all of those involved. These men definitely suffered at the hands of a legal system in India that was out of control. These guys rotted in prison for four years and were initially given a sentence of five years back in January of 2016. They had been detained and in prison since 2013, so these guys have definitely been jerked around. Bravo to the friends and family as well as the legal teams and politicians that fought so hard to get them released. Telegraph Story here.

It seems like India didn't want to protect their territorial waters. It seems like they didn't want others to either. Good the crew was released but sad that justice took so long.
[DAWN] A couple who contracted a free-will marriage in Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... earlier this year were killed allegedly on the orders of a jirga, police said on Monday.
Abdul Hadi and Hussaini Bibi, who hailed from Kohistan ...a backwoods district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa distinguished by being even more rustic than is the norm among the local Pashtuns.... , married without permission from their elders about a month and a half ago, Mominabad police told DawnNews. They had rented a house within the jurisdiction of the Mominabad cop shoppe earlier this month.
On November 24, the residents of the area spotted blood around the house that had been rented by the couple and reported it to the police.
As police began investigating the case, the victims' bodies were recovered from the Qaimkhani graveyard in Ittehad Town and sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Senior Superintendent of Police Orangi Abid Baloch said police had tossed in the slammer Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'! a suspect who confessed to killing the couple, along with some accomplices, on the orders of a jirga.
Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah today took notice of the incident and expressed anger over the couple's murder. "This is Karachi, not a tribal area. How was a jirga held here?" he asked.

The USS Fitzgerald, a Navy destroyer that was damaged in June after a deadly collision with a cargo ship off the coast of Japan, suffered two punctures to its hull on Sunday while being loaded onto a transport ship destined for the US, according to the service.
Already crippled as a result of the June 17 collision that killed seven US sailors, the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer was headed to Mississippi for repairs but was forced to return to its home port in Yokosuka, Japan, when it sustained additional damage in an incident involving a heavy lift transport vessel called the Transshelf.
"Fitzgerald returned to repair two punctures in her hull caused by the heavy lift vessel's steel support structure during on load at anchorage," the US Navy 7th Fleet said in a statement.
