[Daily Caller] Two illegal immigrants were killed on a major highway early Sunday morning following a reckless attempt to illegally cross the U.S.-Mexico border near San Diego.
A van packed with nine migrants burst through the port of entry at San Ysidro and sped north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Border Patrol agents say the van pulled to the shoulder about a mile up the highway, where the occupants tumbled out at began to flee. As two passengers ran across the southbound lanes of the highway, they were struck and killed by a Chevrolet Trailblazer going about 65 mph in the slow lane, according to officials.
Though Border Patrol agents did not initially pursue the van, they attempted to track down the migrants after receiving notification of the illegal crossing from port of entry officials, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune. By the time agents arrived on the scene, the two individuals had already been killed attempting to cross the interstate.
Agents caught and arrested the seven others thought to have been riding in the van.

I've seen it myself, illegal aliens being chased by Border Patrol agents running across Interstate 5 in heavy traffic. They all made it when I saw them do it and the Border Patrol agent wasn't dumb enough to follow them. But I haven't seen any of those CAUTION signs in a while that show the whole family running across the freeway. Nobody ever paid attention to them. Nobody slows down on I5 when they have a chance to do 70, 80 or 90 mph and if you swerve or brake too hard in those conditions you're just as likely to get yourself killed as the aliens.

Seems San Diegans need cow catchers on their vehicles even more than Texans.
A 17-year-old girl who was abandoned by her family after falling pregnant has given birth on a street in India, according to local media reports.
The girl gave birth on the side of the road in Chandil, a town in the state of Jharkhand in eastern India. She was said to have been less than 100 meters (330ft) from a health center.
A video published online purportedly shows the girl hunkered down with her baby in the street as cars and motorcycles pass by. The newborn, whose umbilical cord is still attached, is pictured crying as it lies wrapped in its mother’s dress.
Jagran.com, the website of India’s most widely read newspaper Dainik Jagran, reports that no doctors or nurses from the nearby medical center came to the girl’s aid despite locals alerting them to what was happening on their doorstep.
Local resident Om Prakash Sharma came across the girl on the street with her clothes drenched in blood, The Hindustan Times reports.
“She was in a miserable state. She was shivering and unable to lift and cuddle her infant. Heavy vehicles were crossing by but she didn’t have strength to move aside,” he said.
“Eventually, we put roadblocks around her and approached the CHC (Community Health Center) to take away the mother [and the] child.”
The girl finally got medical attention after locals transported her to the health center in a rickshaw. Locals later confronted doctors at the health center to demand to know why the woman had not been taken care of.
[DAWN] Hurricane Maria strengthened on Monday as it blasted towards the eastern Caribbean, a region already struggling to recover from mega-storm Irma.
The United States (US) National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Maria had intensified to a Category Two storm as it approached the French territory of Guadeloupe, the base for relief operations for several islands hit by Irma this month.
Guadeloupe was on "red alert" on Monday, with schools, businesses and government offices ordered to close, as was neighbouring Martinique, which is also part of La Belle France. Each has a population of around 400,000 people.
The hurricane, packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometres an hour according to the NHC, is expected to hit Guadeloupe at around midday local time.
It was expected to strengthen further into a Category Three "major hurricane", the NHC warned.
Dominica, St Kitts and Nevis and the British island of Montserrat are also on alert.

Politicians all want to be seen as being compassionate so they refuse to do what needs to be done. Look at it this way, if you don't mind sleeping in a tent on the sidewalk of a city street why should you work or try to improve your situation? There will always be suckers to give you spare change or a sandwich. But it isn't working for them or for the decent taxpaying citizens either. When tourists stop coming here because they fear hepatitis and other Third World diseases San Diego's economy will go right down the sewer.
But I believe we have vagrancy laws and laws against public urination. These people need to be arrested. They should be taken to a remote site out in the desert surrounded by concertina wire. Give them food and water out there but no drugs or alcohol. Let them sit there for as long as it takes until they get the point that they are no longer welcome to pitch their tents in San Diego.

The ACLU and Homeless Advocates™ have been suing to stop the open tent cities occupying (and shitting) on City sidewalks. Redevelopment in the Gaslamp and East Village have gentrified the old commercial warehouse districts with a culture clash. The problems are huge with substance abuse and mental illness prime causes along with bad luck and unfortunate events. Our strict stormwater regs went pfffft to allow bleach spraycleaning of sidewalks

[CNN, yes CNN] US investigators wiretapped former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort under secret court orders before and after the election, sources tell CNN, an extraordinary step involving a high-ranking campaign official now at the center of the Russia meddling probe.
The government snooping continued into early this year, including a period when Manafort was known to talk to President Donald Trump.
Some of the intelligence collected includes communications that sparked concerns among investigators that Manafort had encouraged the Russians to help with the campaign, according to three sources familiar with the investigation. Two of these sources, however, cautioned that the evidence is not conclusive.
Special counsel Robert Mueller's team, which is leading the investigation into Russia's involvement in the election, has been provided details of these communications.
A secret order authorized by the court that handles the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) began after Manafort became the subject of an FBI investigation that began in 2014. It centered on work done by a group of Washington consulting firms for Ukraine's former ruling party, the sources told CNN.

And now through Mueller and the crooked FBI, the gov't is on a quest for discovery. How else can their mischief be justified ?
Similar to the MI6 Christopher Steele Trump dossier, "the evidence is not conclusive."
Some topics are just better discussed on the 'back nine' at Andrews or Belvoir, particularly if your flagship hotel and campaign headquarters are little more than a stone's throw from the British consulate.

We can't even get our own government to hand over the Clinton emails. With all the kak that's been tossed their way, what leverage could we possibly have to retrieve anything from the Russians? Their mission is confusion, obstruction, and western destabilization, not problem resolution. Wat could possibly be in it for the Russians ?

Muller and his henchmen do not require an indictment. All they need to do is to financially destroy their prey. They have virtually unlimited resources to do it, same methodology as the former Soviet Union. The late Ted Stevens was indicted by the Bush Justice Dept, and right during a reelection campaign. Eventually he was exonerated after the election, but the damage was done. Some scathing comments by the Judge toward DoJ lawyers, but nobody lost their jobs and nobody went to jail.

No matter what the fickle crowd does, jonor these men with your own research for the truth. He made mistakes in battle but he won the war for independence. He made the most of the knowledge he had.
You live or die by making the most of your situation. You want to know what really happened on the night the Alamo fell? Its actual fall was nothing like American history said it was fos over 200 years. David Crockett did not die fighting off a hoard of Mexicans all around him. Travis was not killed on the walls of the Alamo.
For two weeks these men held off thousands of Santa Anna's frontal assaults beautifully. After two weeks of failure Santa Anna HAD to change strategy drastically. The mid twenties year old Colonel Travis did not expect what happened next. On that moonless night Santa Anna went guerilla at 4am. A smal number of his troops creeped up on several sleeping defenders positioned outside the walls and quietly neutralized them. They then quietly probed the walls in total darkness until they found a way over the top. A runner went and notified the others under Santa Anna. Enough of them got inside the walls to begin killing the sleeping defenders. Travis was killed in bed. History says a young Alamo defender went into the chapel and told the woman who survived, "THEY ARE INSIDE THE WALLS!". This was not after a glorious defensive battle. It was a surprise change of strategy of stealth. To Crockett's credit he and six others had to be talked into surrendering. They were promised they would live. But Santa Anna rode in and ordered the 7 killed by the slashing of the swords. The Mexicans said the 7 never humbled themselves before thier captors. The majority of the Mexicans who died that night died that night, died via friendly fire due to the deep darkness of hour of battle. But the Mexicans said that taking the Alamo via implementing this new strategy was but "a small affair".
To learn how to survive in war, search for the TRUTH! And make your generals men of many years of experience.
[DallasNews] Dallas ISD is researching the histories of Ben Franklin, Sam Houston, Thomas Jefferson and 17 other historical figures, looking into whether their connections with slavery or the Confederacy should prompt reconsideration of their names on DISD campuses. Apparently, there are no Dallas schools named for George Washington.
"This was just a very quick review of looking at the biographies of the individuals," DISD chief of school leadership Stephanie Elizalde told trustees on Sept. 14. "And if there was any association with Confederacy ‐ not making a judgment for or against ‐ just if we saw Confederacy named in it, we then highlighted it. We are now in the process of doing a second [look]." Ben Franklin's biography had the word "confederate" in it? I wonder what the context was? Confederation of States?
...that list, which includes Texas revolutionaries and founders such as Sam Houston, James Bowie and William Travis, U.S. presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, and Dallas pioneers James Gaston and William Brown Miller. Elizalde acknowledged to trustees the difficulty in drawing a line on where to proceed. Why not just name them all after people of color? Barry Obama, Winifred Mandela, Huey Newton, Malcolm X, and Bill Clinton?
Some of the schools' namesakes were involved with the Confederacy, but in lesser army ranks or non-combat roles. As examples, Elizalde mentioned John H. Reagan, the Confederacy's postmaster, and Nancy Cochran, who according to Elizalde's research, "encouraged her sons" to fight for the Confederacy. How about using the names of the Buffalo Soldiers or the Tuskegee Airmen? Or would that remind the snowflakes of their less-than-privileged status at that time in history?
"I will not support a name change for Franklin since Benjamin Franklin clearly had many accomplishments that form the basis for why the school was named after him," Marshall wrote. "I don't believe this school was named after Franklin to send a signal of oppression and control."
None of the schools named after those with segregationist leanings made the list. So the witch hunt is just beginning. Foreman said several of her constituents had asked for William H. Atwell Law Academy to be included, since Atwell used his position as a federal district court judge in the late 1950's to stymie desegregation in Dallas schools. Wait - judges can be bad, too? Or just judges from 50 years ago?
Also, Dallas City Council member Philip Kingston encouraged the reconsideration of W.T. White High School. That school was named after a long-time Dallas ISD superintendent who did not integrate the district after the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark 1954 ruling Brown vs. Board of Education until forced by court order. Kingston said that White was honored with the naming while still in his role as the superintendent "because of his successful delay of desegregation."
Schools to be Renamed
1. Albert Sidney Johnston Elementary School
2. William L. Cabell Elementary School
3. Stonewall Jackson Elementary School
4. Robert E. Lee Elementary School
The schools listed below will require further research as their connection to the Confederacy varies.
1. Roger Q. Mills Elementary School
2. W. H. Gaston Middle School
3. Wilmer-Hutchins High School
4. James Bowie Elementary School
5. James S. Hogg Elementary School
6. John F. Peeler Elementary School
7. John H. Reagan Elementary School
8. Wilmer-Hutchins Elementary School Same guy, two schools.
9. James Madison High School
10.Benjamin Franklin Middle School
11.Thomas Jefferson High School
12.David G. Burnet Elementary School
13.Stephen C. Foster Elementary School This Foster? Stephen Collins Foster, known as "the father of American music", was an American songwriter known primarily for his parlor and minstrel music. Foster wrote over 200 songs; among his best-known are "Oh! Susanna", "Hard Times Come Again No More", "Camptown Races", "Old Folks at Home", "My Old Kentucky Home", "Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair", "Old Black Joe", and "Beautiful Dreamer"
14.Nancy J. Cochran Elementary School
15.Sam Houston Elementary School
16.Sidney Lanier Elementary School
17.John Ireland Elementary School

Actually, g(rom), if you go to Wikipedia and look for "African American Scientists", you will find quite a number of them.
Of course, I can't see the Dallas school district naming a school after Ben Carson.

News: An appeals court judge has revived the defamation lawsuit by UVA fraternity students against Rolling Stone.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A military helicopter on a rural training exercise in western Russia mistakenly fired rockets at a group of parked vehicles, knocking at least one person to the ground, footage posted by Russian news sites and on social media showed.
A video clip published on Tuesday by the independent news site Fontanka.ru showed a helicopter firing a salvo of rockets at a military truck covered in camouflage netting in open countryside, with three vehicles with no military markings visible, parked a few meters away.
A man in civilian clothes who had been standing close to the truck was engulfed in a cloud of dust. The person filming the clip, who was slightly further away, could be seen sprawled on the ground.
Russia is currently staging the "Zapad 2017" war games in the area, major exercises on NATO’s eastern flank that were inspected on Monday by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Fontanka.ru said the incident occurred on Sept. 18 and left one person with concussion. It did not give details on the source of the video.
A second video from the same location, which was posted on social media by Russian investigative bloggers Conflict Intelligence Team, showed the aftermath, including a smashed window in a white jeep nearest to the truck, and shrapnel damage to the military truck.
Reuters could not independently verify the videos.
[CBS] Toys R Us has hired a law firm to help restructure its roughly $400 million in debt due in 2018, a move that could include the marquee toy store filing for bankruptcy protection, sources familiar with the situation said Wednesday.
Addressing the retailer's debt load prior to the crucial holiday season could give its major vendors such as Mattel and Hasbro clarity into the company's long-term viability to help ensure the toymakers continue to stock its shelves throughout the holidays.
Toys R Us has hired restructuring lawyers at Kirkland & Ellis to help address the looming payments, the people said.
Hiring a law firm like Kirkland is not indicative of a bankruptcy filing, and many companies work with law firms to successfully refinance or restructure their debt without filing for protection.
Update from Reuters at 10:50 a.m. EDT: they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

...Toys R Us was unpleasantly overpriced forty years ago, and it hasn't gotten any better - I've been in once in the last twenty years, to pick up a gift for my grandson which we ordered online for pickup.
And they screwed it up.
I can get the same stuff from Amazon 20% (or better) cheaper and not have to deal with deranged crowds and dead-souled employees.

It's profitable before interest payments, so it will survive. The equity owners and unsecured debt holders will probably need to take a haircut. The LBO simply piled on too much debt based on record low interest rates. The LBO investors got way too greedy. They should have completed a stock offering to lighten the debt load. Now they'll have to deal with an involuntary restructuring, because panicky vendors cut off their air supply. This isn't an Amazon problem - it's a private equity LBO problem triggered by over-optimistic spreadsheet jockey assumptions, probably dictated by senior partners at the private equity firms involved.
[Daily Caller] A legal defense fund has been established for Michael Flynn to help the former national security adviser pay his legal bills amid multiple investigations related to the 2016 election.
Flynn’s brother and sister, Joe Flynn and Barbara Redgate, are operating the fund, which began accepting donations early Monday morning.
The fund, which has been in the works since July, is being established to help Flynn’s family cover the "tremendous" legal bills he’s racked up since coming under investigation for his business activities during the presidential campaign, the fund’s website states.
Flynn’s legal expenses are expected to reach well into six-figure territory.
"The various investigations arising out of the 2016 presidential election have placed a tremendous financial burden on our brother Mike and his family," Flynn’s siblings said in a statement issued through the retired lieutenant general’s attorney, Robert Kelner. This posting should in no way be viewed as a solicitation.
