[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Taliban militants group in Afghanistan claims that the security personnel in northern Faryab province have desecrated the dead bodies of the several fighters of the group.
Then perhaps the owners of those bodies should have chosen not to fight there... or at all. One hopes the next contingent of Taliban Lions of Islam will take this information under advisement going forward.
A spokesman for the group Qair Yousuf Ahmadi in reaction to the killing and photography of the group’s fighters said the Afghan security forces personnel have committed the act.
However, the pictures shared on social media apparently shows the local anti-Taliban public uprising forces were involved in the killing, public display, and photography of the dead bodies.
Worse and worse. They hate you, stupid Lion cubs. They really, really hate you enough to do that to you if you fall into their hands.
Qari Ahmadi claims that the dead bodies of the 5 fighters of the group were initially brought for display in a market, were tied to tanks, and their clothes were removed from their bodies.
He also claimed that the incident took place as the group’s leadership ordered the release of at least 62 soldiers captured in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan.
The local officials have not commented regarding the report so far.
This comes as the Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant across the country since the group announced its spring offensive in the month of April.

[Al Jazeera] At least 10 people were killed and several maimed in an kaboom near police offices and a mosque in Afghanistan's Herat ...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns... province, police officials told Al Jazeera.
Abdul Ahid Wali Zada, police spokesperson, said the bomb was planted in a rickshaw that detonated near the Jama Masjid, a large mosque dating from the 12th century in Herat city on Tuesday.
"The corpse count coud rise," he said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Zabihullah Mujahid, a front man for the Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... , told Al Jazeera that the group was not involved in the attack.
Images posted to social media showed plumes of black smoke rising above a mosque complex.
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Talibs group in Afghanistan claims that the group is not behind the bombing in Herat ...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns... city that left at least seven people dead.
The group’s front man Qari Yousuf Ahmadi in a statement said certain circles within the ’enemies’ are attempting to defame the group by carrying out such attacks.
He did not elaborate further regarding his claims about the ’circles’ and ’enemies’ involved in the attack.
The Ministry of Interior acting front man Najib Danish confirmed that the incident took place after explosives planted in a cycle of violence went off in Jame mosque.
Najib further added that 7 people were killed in the kaboom and at least 16 others were maimed.
No individual or group including the Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... snuffies has so far grabbed credit behind the incident.
This comes as the Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since the group announced its spring offensive late in April.
Taliban’s statements for rejecting role in major attacks mainly claiming civilian lives comes as the group is accused of incurring the most civilian casualties in the country.
The United Nations ...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense... Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UANAMA) released its latest civilian casualties report in the month of April, covering a period of three months since the start of 2017.
According to the report, the Anti-Government Elements caused 62 per cent of civilian casualties ‐ 1,353 civilian casualties (447 dead and 906 injured), reflecting a five per cent increase compared to the same period in 2016.
The UN mission also added it recorded a 12 per cent increase in civilian casualties caused by pressure-plate improvised bombs ‐ 218 civilian casualties (86 dead and 132 injured).

[SHABELLENEWS] Suspected US fighter jets have launched an overnight Arclight airstrike in Southern Somalia, targeting a convoy of vehicles reportedly carrying senior Al shabaab commanders.
The warplanes fired several missiles at the convoy with middle-level commanders, while travelling near N-50 area in lower Shabelle region, according to the local residents.
There were no immediate confirmation off the casualties on Al shabaab leaders, as a result of the Ariel bombardment, which was the latest in series of Arclight airstrikes in Somalia by US military.
Last week, foreign forces believed to be US marines carried out a raid on a training camp near Jilib district in Middle Jubba region.
The jets dropped leaflets in the Al shabaab-held towns of Jilib and Jamame, calling fighters to defect from the group, and take an advantage of President’s two-month amnesty offer.

The last two hundred years of recorded history should leave us with no other conclusion. Any effort at establishing normalcy or western civilization in Africa is a foking wasted effort. Get out and leave them to their own fate.
[SHABELLENEWS] A Kenyan government official says four Kenyan aid workers have died after their vehicle hit a mine near the Dadaab refugee camp in the eastern county of Garissa.
Mohamud Saleh, the northeastern regional coordinator, said Tuesday the vehicle belonged to African Development Solutions.
He says the mine is thought to have been planted by al-Shabaab ... the personification of Somali state failure... bully boyz based in neighboring Somalia.
At least 34 people have died, including 20 coppers, in similar kabooms in Kenya in the past three weeks.

Attacks against security forces are common in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula, where Egypt is fighting an insurgency against Islamist bad boy groups.
[IlfordRecorder] A nursery worker was stabbed by three women on a busy high street this morning.
Karrien Stevens, who runs Little Diamonds nursery in Hermon Hill, confirmed that one of her staff was slashed by three women while on her way to work from Wanstead High Street.
While the woman waited at the junction with Hermon Hill at 9.30am, she was attacked from behind by the trio, according to Ms Stevens.
Ms Stevens said the victim told her the assailants then shouted: “Allah, Allah.”
The Met have confirmed that Counter Terrorism Command were aware of the incident but were not leading the investigation.
The nursery director said they then pulled the woman to the ground and stabbed her in the arm before running off down the street.
After being seen by paramedics, the victim was escorted round the local area to help spot her assailants but was unsuccessful.
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: “We were called at 9.36am to reports of a stabbing in Hermon Hill.
“Officers responding to the scene discovered a woman in her 30s who had suffered slash wounds. Her injuries are not life threatening but she has been taken to hospital as a precaution.
“The three suspects fled the scene before police officers arrived and they are still not accounted for.”
Ms Stevens told the Recorder: “It’s scary that something like this can happen right in front of your doorstep.
“What is going on at the moment out there? It’s ridiculous. I don’t know what these people were hoping to achieve.”
Some schools reportedly stopped children from going outside earlier today.
A Redbridge Council spokeswoman said: “Redbridge Council were advised of a reported stabbing in the north of the borough this morning.
“We informed schools and early years providers of this incident and advised them to take precautions to keep children safe until we could clarify the situation. We have now given them updated information and advice.”
She was attacked from behind and then stabbed in the arm as her assailants chanted 'Allah', however police are not treating it as a terrorist incident.

Manchester, England and Tripoli, Lybia
Re: Terrorism and National Leaderships
Salmon Abedi, Manchester Arena Suicide Bomber
Salmon Ramadan Abedi, the man believed to be responsible for Manchester Arena bombing, was reportedly known to authorities, according to CBS news. (Dailycaller.com) Born and raised in Manchester in 1994, Abedi, the second youngest of four children, grew up in a Muslim household. His parents, mother Samia Tabbal and father Ramadan Abedi, a security officer, are Libyan-born refugees who fled to the UK to escape Gaddafi. It is thought they returned in 2011 following Gaddafi’s overthrow. Abedi is thought to have an older brother Ismail Abedi, who was born in Westminster in 1993, a younger brother Hashim Abedi, and a sister Jomana, whose Facebook profile suggests she is from Tripoli and lives in Manchester. Abedi is believed to have attended the Manchester Islamic Centre, also known as the Didsbury Mosque. The paper quoted a friend as saying he had returned from a three-week trip to Libya in recent days. (Telegraph.co.uk)
Abd al-Baset Azzouz
A group of Gaddafi dissidents, who were members of the outlawed Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), lived within close proximity to Abedi in Whalley Range, Manchester, England. Among them was Abd al-Baset Azzouz, a father-of-four from Manchester, who left Britain to run a terrorist network in Libya overseen by Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden’s successor as leader of al-Qaeda. Azzouz, 48, an expert bomb-maker, was accused of running an al-Qaeda network in eastern Libya. The Telegraph reported in 2014 that Azzouz had 200 to 300 militants under his control and was an expert in bomb-making. LIFG claimed responsibility for a failed assassination attempt against Gaddafi in February 1996, which was in part funded by MI6. (Telegraph.co.uk) The father of four came to the UK from Libya in 1994 and was arrested in a 3am raid at his home in Manchester in May 2006. He was detained for nine and a half months before being released on bail. (Daily Mail) The 48-year-old left Britain in 2009 and allegedly went to Pakstan to join Ayman al-Zawahiri, the leader of al-Qaeda following the death of Osama Bin-Laden. (Dailymail.co.uk)
A leader of the LIFG, Abdelhakim Belhadj, became the commander of the Tripoli Military Council after the rebels took over Tripoli during the 2011 Battle of Tripoli. On March 2011, Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi, a leading member of the group, admit to the Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore that his fighters had al-Qaeda links. Al-Hasidi was captured in 2002 in Peshwar, Pakistan, later handed over to the US, and then held in Libya before being released in 2008. (Wikipedia.org)

[Al Jazeera] British police on Tuesday named the third London Bridge attacker as an Italian national of Moroccan descent, and Italian officials said they had passed on their concerns about him to British intelligence officials last year.
UK police said that 22-year-old Youssef Zaghba lived in east London and had not been considered to be a "person of interest" to either police or the intelligence services - meaning they had no reason to think he was violent or planning an attack.
The other two attackers were named on Monday as Khuram Shazad Butt and Rachid Redouane.
The three, who were wearing fake boom jackets, were rubbed out late on Saturday after ramming a van into pedestrians on London Bridge and then slashing and stabbing people in nearby Borough Market.
Seven people were killed during the attack and dozens more were maimed.
A Canadian and a Frenchie were among the dead in Saturday's attack and citizens of other nations were among the 48 injured, including Australia, Bulgaria, La Belle France, Greece and New Zealand. Eighteen are still at death's door in hospital, according to health authorities.
The third attacker, Youssef Zaghba, was born in Fez in 1995 to a Moroccan father and an Italian mother, reported Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.
Zaghba was stopped at Bologna's airport in March 2016 as he tried to make his way to Syria via The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... An Italian interior ministry official told the News Agency that Dare Not be Named that British and Moroccan intelligence and law-enforcement authorities were informed that Zaghba had been flagged as someone who was a risk - but no other details were released.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to discuss details of the case.
Italian news reports said authorities sequestered Zaghba's mobile phone and passport when he was stopped at the airport, but that he successfully got them back after a court determined there wasn't enough evidence to charge him with any terrorism-related crime.
Italia has expelled more than 40 people in the past two years who were suspected of radicalisation activities but for whom there was insufficient evidence to bring formal charges. Zaghba's Italian citizenship prevented such an expulsion, Italian daily La Repubblica said.
Zaghba was reportedly working in a London restaurant around the time of the attack and had not been seen in Italia since 2016.
The other attackers
Zaghba's two accomplices in the attack were identified by police on Monday.
London's Metropolitan Police said one attacker was Khuram Shazad Butt, aged 27. Butt was previously known to police and the domestic spy agency MI5, and was a British citizen who had been born in Pakistain, the police said.
"However, some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves... there was no intelligence to suggest that this attack was being planned and the investigation had been prioritised accordingly," police said on Monday, without providing details on why Butt had come to the attention of law enforcement.
Butt had notably featured in a Channel 4 TV documentary entitled The Jihadis Next Door and, according to the British media, numerous people alarmed by his views had gone to the authorities.
The second attacker was named as Rachid Redouane, aged 30, who also went by the identity Rachid Elkhdar and was not known to police. Redouane had claimed to be Moroccan and Libyan.
Police on Tuesday carried out a new search in an east London suburb near the home of two of the London Bridge attackers. The search in Ilford, just north of Barking, is seeking to determine whether the group had accomplices.
Police on Tuesday also tossed in the clink Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit! a 27-year-old man in Barking on suspicion of violating the Terrorism Act and a residence there was being searched.
London police have said 12 other people from Barking held since the attack have been freed.
[Reuters] One of the three attackers that killed seven people in London on Saturday was refused asylum in Britain but was able to remain there through a European Union residence card granted in Ireland, Irish state broadcaster RTE reported on Tuesday.
British police on Monday named Rachid Redouane, a 30-year-old from Barking in east London who claimed to be Moroccan and Libyan, as one of the three attackers shot dead during the knife and van attack.
Irish media reported that an Irish identification card was found on Redouane's body, and Prime Minister Enda Kenny confirmed that one of the attackers lived in Ireland for a time but did not attract the attention of law-enforcement.
RTE said, without citing sources, that Redouane was refused asylum in Britain but was granted a '4 EU FAM' residence card after getting married in Ireland in 2012, which allowed him to apply for a permit to remain in Britain when he left Ireland.
A '4 EU FAM' card grants a non-European Economic Area family member permission to stay in the EU.
Ireland has a common travel area with Britain that allows the freedom of movement of people within the two islands as well as the rights to reside, work and access public services. It hopes to maintain the bilateral system, which predates its EU membership, after Britain leaves the bloc.
Britain's Home Office and Irish police declined to comment on the report.
NHS England says 15 people remain in a critical condition in hospital
A further arrest has been made in the Irish Republic - a man in his 30s - related to Redouane. Another man also arrested in the Irish Republic earlier on Tuesday over ID documents in Redouane's name has been released without charge
Theresa May has said she will change human rights laws if they "get in the way" of tackling suspected terrorists
ISI raid Khuram Butt's former family home in the village of Mujahidabadand and a restaurant owned by Khuram Butt's uncle in the city of Jhelum, 60 miles south east of Islamabad "as a precaution."
Butt, also known as Abu Zaitun, was a key contact of London bomber Mohammed Siddique Khan and hate preacher Anjem Choudary.

[AlAhram] Belgian police detained 12 people in connection with the Brussels bombings of March last year, after a series of home searches, federal prosecutors said in a statement.
Police carried out 14 house searches and a judge will decide in the coming hours whether the 12 people will be detained further, the statement said.

[Asharq al-Aswat] French police shot and maimed a man who attacked officers with a hammer outside the Notre Dame cathedral on Tuesday and the Gay Paree prosecutor’s office swiftly launched a counter-terrorism investigation.
The perpetrator has yelled "This is for Syria" before bashing a police officer in the head outside the cathedral, a top official revealed, as a terror investigation was under way.
Armed police cordoned off the site and the cathedral in central Gay Paree that is visited by millions of tourists every year was locked down during the incident. It comes just three days after Death Eaterbandidosturbans killed seven people in London in a knife and van attack.
"Situation under control, one policeman injured, the assailant was neutralized and taken to hospital," Gay Paree police said on Twitter.
Two police sources said the officers shot the assailant in the thorax after he had threatened them with a hammer and refused to stop. One policeman was hurt, according to one source.
It's getting to be like Israel: when single attackers rush forward they are dispatched quickly, then life goes on while the police hunt down their connections.
Karine Dalle, a spokeswoman for the Gay Paree diocese, told BFM TV 900 people were still inside the cathedral as police secured the area.
La Belle France is under a state of emergency after a wave of murderous Moslem attacks since early 2015 that have killed more than 230 people across the country.
An Algerian student claiming to be an ISIS soldier shouted 'this is for Syria' as he attacked a police officer outside Gay Paree's Notre Dame Cathedral on Tuesday afternoon.
The man, whose name has not been released but is said to be a mature student in his 40s, was shot and injured by police after he used a hammer to attack an officer patrolling with two other coppers at 4.30pm local time.
One of the officers responded with two gunshots, which injured the assailant, who was carrying kitchen knives, a hammer and other unsophisticated weapons.

[Asharq al-Aswat] A court in the western Turkish city of Izmir on Monday sentenced two Afghans for being pro-ISIS and for carrying out reconnaissance in favor of the terrorist organization, preparing for a terrorist attack.
Security sources said the anti-terrorist and intelligence forces of the Izmir Security Directorate tossed in the slammer Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out! the two Afghan snuffies at the main bus station in the city after suspicion and seized from them documents related to ISIS.
Sources pointed out that investigations have revealed that the detainees belong to the terrorist organization and have links to the areas of festivities in Syria and Iraq and that they came to Izmir to carry out reconnaissance in preparation for the implementation of a terrorist attack in the city.
Following the investigation, the two suspects were transferred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which in turn referred them to the court that sentenced them to jail.
Turkish security forces continue its intensified campaigns throughout the country, targeting terrorist organizations, mainly ISIS, in which 4,000 ISIS suspects and snuffies have been arrested since the beginning of 2017.
Due to these operations, ISIS has failed to commit any terrorist attack in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... following the attack that was carried out by the Uzbek ISIS myrmidon, Abdulkadir Masharipov, who operated under the cover name Abu Mohammed Horasani, on Reina nightclub, killing 39 people and injuring 69 others of different nationalities.
Izmir has witnessed a series of security campaigns that resulted in the arrest of about 100 ISIS sleeper cells, most of them from Uzbekistan and Central Asian countries, in connection with Masharipov, who was arrested on January 16 in Istanbul.
In this context, the Turkish Interior Ministry announced on Monday that a total of 48 outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) holy warriors have been neutralized in 548 operations across Turkey over the past week; a number of ISIS snuffies were also detained in the same period.

[TorontoSun] A Scarborough woman swore allegiance to ISIS in a Scarborough courtroom where she appeared to face allegations that she swung a golf club at hardware store employees while screaming threats and Islamic chants.
Before Tuesday’s proceedings started, Justice of the Peace Alice Napier asked Rehab Dughmosh, 32, to identify herself in court — but the accused woman didn’t initially answer the question.
“ISIS — I pledge to the leader of the believers — Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi,” blurted the woman through an interpreter.
Dughmosh, who wore a black niqab and a forest-green prison sweat suit, agreed to “stay in jail,” rather than have a bail hearing at College Park courts Tuesday.
Dughmosh was remanded in custody and will appear via video at Scarborough Court of Justice on June 21.
Sources told the Toronto Sun that a woman, wearing an ISIS bandana, allegedly entered Cedarbrae Mall in Scarborough Saturday afternoon and then the Canadian Tire store, where she walked to the paint section.
She allegedly ranted “Allahu Akbar” — God (Allah) is greater — before swinging a golf club at employees — at the same time of bloody terrorist attacks in London, sources said.
The woman was restrained by several employees, after she pulled out a large knife from under her clothing, according to police. The knife was pried from her hand and an employee suffered non-life-threatening injuries, said a police release.
Dughmosh is facing seven charges including two counts of assault with a weapon, assault, two counts of possession of a weapon, threaten death or bodily harm, and carrying a concealed weapon.

"The major challenge forces are facing in Mosul is the existence of a large number of civilians in narrow areas with small, interconnected houses," Assadi said.

[Ynet] During the night between Monday and Tuesday, Border Police officers raided a bomb-making laboratory in the village of Abu Dis, east of Jerusalem. The Border Police attribute to this laboratory the production of 30 bombs that have been thrown at security forces since the beginning of the year.
Two suspects were tossed in the slammer Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un! at the site on suspicion of manufacturing and throwing explosives at armed forces.
[Ynet] The Israel Police has been conducting a covert investigation over the past two weeks against a 19-year-old resident of East Jerusalem on suspicion of incitement to terrorism following publications on his Facebook page and in his Instagram.
According to the suspicion, the suspect expressed his support of terrorist organizations in posts and pictures that reached the dozens of people who were linked to him on social media.
[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian was killed by Israeli fire in the Gazoo Strip on Tuesday, the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",-run health ministry said, naming him as Fadi al-Najjar, 25.
"A Paleostinian was mortally maimed by Israeli shots during festivities on the Gazoo border," said health ministry front man Ashraf al-Qudra.
An IDF spokeswoman said that the army was "aware of the reports" that al-Najjar was killed but did not comment further. She said Paleostinians hurled rocks and rolled blazing tires at the border fence, prompting troops to fire warning shots.
"Throughout the day, dozens of Paleostinians attempted to damage the security fence in the Gazoo Strip."
"IDF forces called rioters to halt and, upon continued violence, fired warning shots into the air." the spokesperson said, adding that troops only used live fire to try and disperse the protesters.
[BBC] Twin attacks on the Iranian parliament and Ayatollah Khomeini's mausoleum in the capital, Tehran, have killed at least 12 people and injured many more.
The assault on the parliament building appears to be over, after hours of intermittent, audible gunfire there. A suicide bomber died at the mausoleum.
Iranian officials say they managed to foil a third attack.
The so-called Islamic State group (IS) has claimed it carried out the attacks, which would be a first in Iran.
IS later posted a video which showed what it claimed was footage from inside the parliament building.
Iranian media reported that four attackers inside the parliament building had been killed by security forces.
It is not clear whether the death toll of 12 includes the attackers, or whether the victims were killed at both incidents or solely at the parliament.
About 40 people were injured in the two attacks, according to emergency services chief Pir Hossein Kolivand.
Gunmen armed with Kalashnikovs entered the parliament on Wednesday morning. Images from the scene showed a major security operation as forces surrounded the building.
Heavy gunfire could be heard.
Iranian authorities denied that there had been a hostage situation inside the parliament building.
Speaker Ali Larijani downplayed the events, describing it as a "minor issue".
Reports said the gunmen had entered parliament via a public entrance, dressed as women.
Soon after the assault on parliament, another bomber detonated a suicide vest near the shrine of the Republic's revered founder, Ayatollah Khomeini, a few kilometers south of the city, Zolfaghari said, according to Tasnim.
A second attacker was shot dead, he said.
The Intelligence Ministry said security forces had arrested another "terrorist team" planning a third attack, without giving further details.

Mashnouq made the confirmation during a meeting at the ministry with British Ambassador to Leb Hugo Shorter during which he offered condolences over the victims of the London terrorist attacks.
"A successful preemptive operation has thwarted a bombing that bully boyz were preparing for Beirut's southern suburbs," Mashnouq told the ambassador, adding that the operation involved "cooperation between General Security and the Intelligence Branch" of the Internal Security Forces.
Al-Akhbar newspaper had reported Tuesday that General Security in coordination with the ISF Intelligence Branch had "dismantled an IS-linked cell that had been plotting to stage a suicide kaboom on a restaurant at iftar time."
Media reports said the cell comprised two Paleostinians and a Yemeni.

"A boom jacket that one of the would-be bombers had intended to use was seized" at the al-Rabih Project, the daily added.
According to the detainees' confessions, one of them was supposed to blow himself up in the restaurant while the two others were involved in planning.
"They were receiving their orders from a Raqa-based IS leader through a Ein el-Hellhole intermediary," al-Akhbar said.

[AlAhram] The Syrian army crossed into Raqqa province on Tuesday, capturing two villages from Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... Group, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, an advance coinciding with the start of a U.S.-backed assault on Raqqa city.
The Russian-backed Syrian army and allied militias advanced into Raqqa province from neighbouring Aleppo province where they have seized swathes of territory from Islamic State Group this year.
The villages seized - Khirbet Mohsen and Khirbet al-Saba - are about 80 km (50 miles) from Raqqa city and are located 7 km south of the main road linking Raqqa and Aleppo.
The U.S.-backed campaign to capture Raqqa is being fought by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance that includes the Kurdish YPG militia.
In May, the Syrian government described the Kurdish war with Islamic State Group as "legitimate" and said the military priorities for Damascus were Islamic State Group-held Deir al-Zor and the Badia region at the border with Jordan and Iraq. That suggests it does not intend to challenge the U.S.-backed campaign at Raqqa city.

[ALMASDARNEWS] Fierce battle continues in Deir Ezzor between the so-called "Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. " (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIS) and Syrian Arab Army (SAA) as jihadists aggressively try to break through government forces defense lines.
Regardless of several gains made by the designated terror group in the first night of powerful assault, this offensive has already cost IS dozens of killed and injured snuffies and lots of destroyed vehicles.
Thus, in the last 24 hours alone, at least 50 IS snuffies were killed, with about 10 others maimed, as al-Masdar News reported earlier.
In addition to that, jihadists have lost one of their top field commanders in the non-stop festivities against Syrian Army.
A Belgian national, Abu Omar al-Belgiki, also known as "Abu Talha al-Askari" was one of the most influent IS military figures in Syria while also being responsible for planning terrorist attacks in Europe and training terrorist elements to conduct those attacks.
Previously a commander in so-called "Al-Kheir Army" (one of the IS subunits), later he would become responsible for all operations of "Al-Khilafah Division".

[Hurriyet Daily News] U.S.-backed forces launched a major move to take Raqqa, the headquarters of the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) in Syria on June 6, with Ankara warning that it will retaliate immediately if the military operation poses a threat against The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... The attack on the northern city, which was seized by the jihadists in early 2014, has been seven months in the making and is backed by air support, military advisers and weapons deliveries from the U.S.-led coalition.
After months sealing off access routes to the city from the east, north and west, the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said it entered city limits for the first time on June 6.
"Our forces entered the city of Raqqa from the eastern district of al-Meshleb," SDF commander Rojda Felat told Agence La Belle France-Presse, adding that festivities were also raging on the city’s northern outskirts.
"They are fighting street battles inside Raqqa now, and we have experience in urban warfare," she said.
The People’s Protection Units (YPG), seen as a terrorist organization by Ankara for its links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), constitutes the backbone of the U.S.-backed SDF.
Ankara has repeatedly said it would like to be a part of the Raqqa operation if the YPG is discarded but the U.S. has stuck with the Kurdish group in the field.
"We will not let any situation emerge that would pose risks for our country," Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on June 6, addressing his party deputies in parliament.
"If we come across any situation in Raqqa or any spot in the region that threaten our security, we will give the necessary response," he said.
The advance of the SDF was backed by heavy air strikes by the U.S.-led coalition, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stated.
The coalition, which also includes Turkey, began its air campaign against ISIS in Iraq in August 2014, expanding its operations to Syria the following month.
Defeating ISIS in Raqqa would "deliver a decisive blow to the idea of ISIS as a physical caliphate," coalition commander Lieutenant General Steve Townsend said.

State news agency SANA reported on Tuesday that the Arclight airstrikes by the US-led coalition killed 12, including women and kiddies. It says the families were fleeing the city in boats across the Euphrates River ahead of an expected all-out attack by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces.
The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 21 people were killed in the Monday night Arclight airstrikes. It said they were likely carried out by the US-led coalition.
The Arclight airstrikes have intensified in recent weeks as SDF fighters have reached the outskirts of the city.
