11 militants killed in North Sinai military operation: Army spokesman
[AlAhram]. Egypt's military raided three major "armed terrorist hotspots" in North Sinai, killing 11 Death Eaters, the army’s front man announced in an official statement on Saturday.

The front man said that the army tightened a siege on other Death Eater hotspots in North Sinai’s El-Arish and Sheikh Zuweid, seizing arms, wireless communication devices, computers and cameras.

The front man added that the army's operation against the insurgency has reached a "critical stage in uprooting terrorism."

The statement added that 28 explosives were located in the El-Arish and Rafah areas and that 29 other bombs that had been planted to target security forces were defused.

The anti-terror operation "Martyr's Right" was first launched in September 2015 to root out bully boyz operating in the restive Sinai Peninsula.

Egypt’s army launched a new security offensive two weeks ago against Islamist bully boyz in North Sinai, killing over 50 in response to a Death Eater attack one week earlier that killed 12 soldiers and injured six others.

This campaign includes operations by Special Forces units, the second and third field armies, as well as the police, all of whom aim to "capture and target terrorist elements and outlaws in the vicinity of villages, cities and residential areas in North and Central Sinai."

A few Europe migrant colonist briefs
Italy links people trafficking to militants in detention of Syrian

[Ynet] Italia's tax police said they had found a clear link between people trafficking and murderous Moslems after detaining a Syrian man who entered Italia on a migrant boat who they allege to be a member of the al-Nusra group.
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
A series of deadly attacks carried out by murderous Moslems across Europe over the past year have fuelled a debate about how to handle the influx of hundreds of thousands of refugees and other migrants colonists propelled by civil war in Syria, Iraq and Libya.

"Today's operation is one of the few investigations which establishes a direct link between people who plan trafficking of migrants colonists and Islamic terrorist organizations," the police said in a statement on Saturday.

The detained man was previously kept in jug for helping smuggle migrants colonists, the police said, adding a probe conducted immediately after his arrival revealed he was responsible for organising and managing the crossing.

Further investigations, an extensive analysis of digital files such as videos and photographs taken from a notebook and phones and questioning of the man showed he was a member of the Jabhat al-Nusra, an al Qaeda offshoot, they allege.

The International Organization for Migration's said this week that 4,220 migrants had died in the Mediterranean so far this year, compared with 3,777 in the whole of 2015.
No mention of the perceentage of the dead who were Christian or otherwise not Muslim, versus the percentage of the survivors...
As of Nov. 2, 159,496 people had reached Italy by sea this year, the IOM said.

Car crash in Greece reveals migrant smuggling operation

[Ynet]. Police say a car crash in northern Greece has revealed yet another migrant smuggling operation.

A car with Bulgarian license plates collided with a local vehicle outside the city of Thessaloniki on Saturday morning and its driver fled. Police say two migrants -- an Indian and Syrian or Iraqi -- were found slightly injured and they took them to the hospital. A third migrant, a Pakistani, was found unharmed in the car's trunk. Alerted by the driver of the other vehicle, police also found two more Indians and a Pakistani who had left the car and were walking toward the city.

12 civilians felling Hawijah die in ISIS bomb attack

[AlArabiya] A bomb blast on Friday killed 12 civilians, among them women and children, who had fled the ISIS-held Hawijah area in northern Iraq, officials said.

The deaths highlight the extreme danger faced by civilians trying to flee areas held by ISIS, who may be targeted by the extremists as they seek to escape and then have to navigate bombs the militants have planted.

Hawijah is a town in Iraq's Kirkuk province that was seized by ISIS along with swathes of other territory in the summer of 2014.

Police Colonel Fatah Hassan said the displaced Iraqis had left the Hawijah area on foot but were picked up by police who were transporting them to the west when the bomb ripped through the vehicle.

Hassan, a police lieutenant colonel and Iraqi lawmaker Mohammed Tamim all confirmed that 12 displaced Iraqis were killed. He added that one of the policemen trying to help them was also killed, while both police and displaced civilians were wounded.

Human Shields, Barricades Slow Iraqi Advance Into Mosul
Just the newer stuff here.
Islamic State fighters launched counterattacks Saturday against Iraqi special forces in eastern Mosul, emerging from populated areas deeper in the city to target the troops with mortars and suicide car bombs in clashes that raged late into the night.

Artillery shelling thundered across the city as snipers traded fire from rooftops and civilians emerged from the front lines waving white flags. There were fresh indications that other residents were being held back by the militants to be used as human shields.

The seesawing battle highlights the challenges ahead for Iraqi forces as they press into more densely populated neighborhoods of the country's second largest city, where they will not be able to rely as much on airstrikes because of the risk of killing civilians.

"Daesh is in the city center and we must be very careful as our forces advance," said Maj. Gen. Sami al-Aridi of the Iraqi special forces, using the Arabic acronym for IS.

The special forces entered the Gogjali district, on the eastern edge of Mosul, on Tuesday, marking their first major foray into the city itself after more than two weeks of fighting in its rural outskirts.

IS fought back Saturday, pushing the special forces from the southern edge of the neighborhood. Both sides fired mortar rounds and automatic weapons, while the Iraqi troops also responded with artillery. Snipers dueled from rooftops in residential areas, where most buildings are just two stories high.

Dozens of civilians emerged from their homes over the course of the day, some carrying white flags. Many civilians traveling with children and elderly relatives said they had to walk more than 6 miles (10 kilometers) to reach a camp for the displaced.

Just a few kilometers (miles) from the clashes, Iraqi officers coordinating airstrikes with the U.S.-led coalition watched live drone footage showing a team of IS fighters regrouping near the front line.

"They're moving in front of the mosque," an Iraqi soldier said as he called in an airstrike, which moments later flattened a small building. Civilians moved into the area soon thereafter, and the soldiers said the militants appeared to have corralled them there to prevent further strikes.

"Daesh have continued to hide behind civilians and facilitate harm to them," said Col. John Dorrian, a spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition, which has been launching airstrikes to aid the Iraqi advance.
They're acting like Paleostinians...
It's all the same culture.
He said Iraqi forces and the coalition "developed a plan that is intended to reduce the possibility of civilian casualties and collateral damage."

But Iraqi Cpt. Naqib Jaff, who was covered in dust after helping to hold positions east of Mosul overnight, said the air support "hasn't been enough" and that the coalition was only striking suicide car bombs. He said that in previous operations against IS-held towns and cities, civilians would be moved away from the front lines, allowing forces to advance. But he said in Mosul, his men have been ordered to keep families inside their homes.

"We've never been in such a situation before. We would be fighting and there would be a family right next to us," he said.

The government has ordered residents to stay inside, fearing a mass exodus from the city, which is still home to more than 1 million people.

The advance of the Iraqi forces was also slowed by fortifications erected by the extremists in the more than two years since they captured the city. Trenches and berms have turned the streets and alleyways of a neighborhood once named after former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein into a maze.

Satellite images show rows of concrete barricades, earthen mounds and rubble blocking key routes into the city center. The images, taken Monday by Stratfor, a U.S.-based private intelligence firm, showed that IS fighters have cleared terrain and leveled buildings around Mosul airport and a nearby former military base on the west bank of the Tigris.

Iraqi troops battle Islamic State for last town south of Mosul
Iraqi troops advancing towards Mosul battled on Saturday for the last town left between them and the Islamic State stronghold to the north, which is already under assault from special forces fighting inside the city's eastern districts, Reuters reported.

Saturday's attack on Hammam al-Alil, about 15 km (10 miles) south of Mosul, targeted a force of at least 70 Islamic State fighters in the Tigris river town, commander of the Mosul operations Major-General Najm al-Jabouri said. Jabouri said the assault began around 10 a.m. (0700 GMT) and some militants had tried to flee run away escape across the river, although others put up heavy resistance and the troops had thwarted three attempted suicide car bombings.

"(The battle) is very important - it's the last town for us before Mosul," Jabouri told reporters. Iraqi helicopters were supporting the army, he said, backed also by jets from a U.S.-led air coalition which had been hitting Islamic State targets in the town for several days.

A military statement said security forces had raised the Iraqi flag over a government building in the town, but did not say whether it was fully under their control.

The operation to regain control over Mosul began in the morning of Oct. 17. In addition to Iraq’s government forces, local Peshmerga paramilitaries participate in the operation. The operation is supported by international anti-terrorism coalition air force.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran commands 25,000 militants in Syria
[Wash Times] The former head of Israel’s domestic intelligence agency, Avi Dichter, says Iran now commands a force of 25,000 Shia militants in Syria, fighting against the Sunni opposition to the Iranian-backed, Shia government of Syrian President Assad. These fighters are mostly recruits from Afghanistan, Pakistan and are in addition to Hezbollah, the Iranian terrorist army based out of Lebanon.

Israel has long considered Iran its greatest threat in the region and fears Iran may turn these now battle-hardened militants against the Jewish State when the Syrian Civil War concludes, reports the Jerusalem Post. Dichter said 1,600 members of Hezbollah had been killed in the war.

"This is a foreign legion of some 25,000 militants, most of whom have come from Afghanistan and Pakistan," Dichter said during a briefing in Israel on Wednesday, according to details provided by his office. "They are fighting in Syria only against the rebels and not against ISIS."

"The Iranians enlisted Hezbollah ... to fight in Syria because the Iranian army is better suited to fight as an army against another army, while the Hezbollah militants are adept at fighting against terror groups," he said. "The fighting has made (Hezbollah) a better fighting force and more adept in conventional military warfare."

80 die in rebel artillery attacks in Aleppo
Aleppo – More than 80 civilians were killed and dozens wounded in a one-week offensive by the Syrian rebel groups in Aleppo, activists reported on Saturday.

The rebel offensive targeted regime-held areas in western Aleppo. Syrian Islamist rebels, led by the Army of Conquest, launched the military campaign on October 28 to break the siege on eastern Aleppo.

“The revolutionary factions have expelled pro-Assad forces from several neighbourhoods, and continued their advance towards western Aleppo,” rebel spokesman Saleh al-Zein told ARA News.

“Soon the regime-imposed siege on eastern Aleppo will be lifted, by force,” the spokesman said.

However, human rights activists in the city reported the death of over 80 civilians, including at least 22 children, under heavy bombardment by the rebel groups.

“Those armed groups claim that they’re fighting to lift the siege imposed by the regime on eastern Aleppo. However, they’re killing many civilians instead of directly hitting regime positions,” rights activist Ahmed Halwani told ARA News.

“The rebels are apparently punishing civilians in western Aleppo for allegedly supporting the Syrian army,” he said.

“This mass attack on civilian houses is a war crime, and is no different from what Assad army is doing by besieging civilians east of Aleppo to starve to death,” Halwani said.
