Afghanistan
Heavy clashes underway in provincial capital of Uruzgan province
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Heavy festivities are underway in quiet provincial capital of southern Uruzgan province of Afghanistan as the Taliban gunnies have launched a coordinated attack to take control of the key district.

Provincial police chief Wais Samimi said festivities between the Afghan forces and the Taliban gunnies are underway since several days but the shootout intensified earlier today.

The Talibs group however have claimed that they have taken control of several security posts as the quiet provincial capital is under the siege of the group.

Gen. Raziq joins Afghan forces in the front line in Uruzgan province
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] One of Afghanistan’s most prominent security officers has joined the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) in southern Uruzgan province as Taliban intensified attacks on the placid provincial capital to seize its control.

General Abdul Raziq, the provincial police chief of Kandahar province, was spotted in Tarinkot city, the placid provincial capital of Uruzgan today amid intnsifying festivities.

The move by Gen. Raziq to join the ANDSF was apparently aimed at boosting the morale of the Afghan forces who are facing a resurgent Taliban amid deteriorating security situation during the past several months.

According to reports emerging from the area, the Afghan forces have successfully repulsed the Taliban offensive on Tarinkot as clearance opeations are still underway to push back the Death Eaters.

The Talibs immediately responded to General Raziq’s move for joining the Afghan forces in the front line.

"As Razziq sends forces to #Uruzgan, back in #Kandahar his gunnies abandon 10 CPs in Maiwand bringing large area under Mujahidin control," a Taliban front man Abdul Qahar said in a Twitter message.

Gen. Raziq rose to prominence after 2001 when he was serving as the police chief of Spin Boldak district with his activities prompting dread among the Taliban fighters.

Car bomb near Tripoli’s Busetta naval base
[Libya Herald] A boom-mobile went kaboom! this morning opposite Busetta navel base in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, near the foreign ministry buildings in central Tripoli’s Zawiat al-Dahmani district. The bomb did not cause great damage, however, and no one was injured.

It is not known who was responsible, or who or what was the specific target. The base is still used by the Presidency Council, mainly now as a secure location to meet foreign diplomats and visitors.

There were reports of a second kaboom but these have not been verified.

Benghazi suicide attack, 13 Saiqa soldiers reported dead
[Libya Herald] Thirteeen members of Saiqa Special Forces
...Libya's elite army unit, insofar as they have one, formed from a mixture of paratroopers and commandos. The group emerged from a militia with the same name in 2010. It now numbers a few thousand and reports to the Ministry of Defence. It deployed in Benghazi in an attempt to control the carnage. As a result, it has been attacked and several of its officers murdered. The force is popular in Benghazi for its stance against Ansar al-Sharia group...
are were said to have been killed this morning in an attack by Death Eaters on a checkpoint near the entrance to Benghazi’s Gwarsha district.

According to Saiqa, the attackers arrived by car, got out and started shooting. It is believed that all were also killed but there has been no announcement as to their numbers.

Several other Saiqa soldiers were also maimed in the attack, but again there are no details so far.

Because of a ghibli (sandstorm) in Benghazi, no military aircraft were flying at the time and it is believed the Death Eaters took advantage of this to launch their attack.

The gate was the scene of another attack last month when a jacket wallah drove a explosive-laden vehicle into an army position. At least 23 soldiers died and over 70 maimed injured.

Soddy raid kills 8 in Yemen
At least eight civilians were killed when a house north of Yemen’s capital was hit in a Saudi-led coalition air strike Thursday, according to media reports.

Al-Massirah television said five others were wounded in the city of Amran, held by Ansarullah movement.

The raid also damaged the walls of a neighboring school compound which was empty at the time, witnesses told AFP.

According to tribal sources, coalition warplanes carried out 12 air strikes targeting an army base during which the house was also hit.

Saudi Arabia has faced repeated criticism from rights groups over civilian casualties in the coalition’s military campaign against Yemen that was launched in March 2015.

More than 6,600 people, mostly civilians, have been killed by the Saudi-led war on the poorest Arab country, according to UN figures.

Europe
Female terror suspect who was 'planning an imminent attack' is shot in the head by police
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] A ’fanatical and radicalised’ female terrorist suspect was bumped off by French police tonight after stabbing an officer during a police special forces raid. She was said to be planning an ’imminent attack’ before being shot in the head in Boussy-Saint-Antoine, in the Essonne department, south of Gay Paree. As she was rushed to hospital with potentially life-threatening wounds, two women accomplices were also locked away
You have the right to remain silent...
.All were also linked to a car filled with gas canisters that was found close to Notre Dame Cathedral at the weekend. The Peugeot 607 with on number plates was left just across the River Seine from the ancient place of worship ‐ prompting fears of a terrorist attack. Tonight’s drama unfolded soon after 8pm as an elite Raid special forces unit moved into an address at Boussy-Saint-Antoine.

As they approached the women, one is said to have drawn a knife and maimed an officer working for the DGSE, in the shoulder. In a briefing afterwards, French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said: ’These three young, radicalised women were preparing an imminent and violent attack.’ The women aged 19, 23, and 39 were not identified by Mr Cazenueve, who said one was in hospital suffering from bullet wounds to the head.

Another radicalised Frenchwoman who wanted to run away and join Isis is in jug in Gay Paree after abandoning the car packed with gas cylinders close to Notre Dame. The suspect ‐ who is 29 and on a terror watchlist ‐ disappeared with her boyfriend, aged 34, early on Sunday morning. This was when the Peugeot was found with its lights flashing in a no-parking zone, across the River Seine from the cathedral, at 7.30am. There were seven gas canisters inside ‐ promoting fears of a terrorist attack on the ancient place of worship, which is high on a list of Isis targets.

’It may have been that they were on a test run,’ said a source close to the case, who added: ’There was nobody in the car, and the cannisters were not connected to any detonator or explosives.’ He said six full cannisters were in the boot of the Peugeot, and an empty one was on the back seat. Documents written in Arabic were also found in the car. The Peugeot had no number plate, but forensics experts managed to find DNA belonging to the couple, who were both well known to police. The couple were finally caught close to the southern city of Orange on Tuesday, while ’trying to escape to Spain,’ said a source close to the case.

They were interviewed at length by police in Avignon, before being transferred to Gay Paree in an armed convoy. Investigators have spent the past four days raiding the homes of anybody who might be linked to them. Six people were originally arrested, with the woman and her boyfriend remaining in jug in a high-security cop shoppe. The woman now lives in the Loiret department, south of Gay Paree, but she originally comes from the northern Gay Paree of suburbs, in the Seine-Saint-Denis department. Her father has told officers that she was ’radicalised as a teenager’, and had expressed the wish to go and fight with Isis abroad. The suspect had told her parents that she was ’going away with a friend’ at the weekend, and that her parents had not heard from her since. Islamic State

has threatened Notre Dame as part of its violent campaign against La Belle France for sending warplanes to bomb Isis bases in countries including Syria and Iraq.
Update from The Times of Israel at 3:10 a.m. ET:
The woman who was shot was a daughter of the car’s owner.

Four people — two brothers and their girlfriends — were already in custody over the discovery. A 34-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, the first couple arrested, have been held since Tuesday and are known to the security services for links to radical Islamists. The man’s brother and his girlfriend, both aged 26, were arrested late Wednesday, the source said.

Police said earlier they were searching for the two daughters of the owner of the grey Peugeot 607 that was found abandoned on Sunday near Notre Dame cathedral, which draws millions of visitors every year.

Separately, Breitbart updates the report from yesterday about a knife attack on police in Mollenbeek:
Two police on routine foot patrol in Molenbeek were attacked Wednesday afternoon by an unknown assailant. The suspect, a male, is said to have attacked the officers with a knife before fleeing. The man was apprehended by another group of police who were close to the scene.

The suspect in the attack is described by police as a 24-year-old illegal migrant from Morocco. Authorities say the man is known to them due to the fact he has been repeatedly told to leave Belgium by authorities.

of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) carried out a powerful assault near the Syrian border on Tuesday, targeting the Iraqi Army controlled Tanf Crossing in the al-Anbar Governorate.

ISIS began the assault by attempting to overrun the Iraqi Army’s checkpoints near this strategic border-crossing; however, they were unsuccessful after a short battle.

The terrorist group attempted to hype up the battle by posting pictures of their personnel with heavy weapons, but this did very little to change the outcome of the firefight.

The Tanf Crossing is located near the Homs Governorate of Syria; this area was used by the terrorist group in the past, but they have since lost control of it.

Philippine navy blockades Abu Sayyaf bastion
[UPI] The Philippine navy deployed its newest and largest ship to establish a blockade around the island province of Sulu to prevent the Daesh-linked Abu Sayyaf from fleeing. The BRP Tarlac will lead the blockade in the Sulu Sea after President Duterte ordered the nation's military to destroy the Abu Sayyaf. The terror-linked group has claimed responsibility for a bombing that left 15 dead in Davao City and for multiple beheadings in the past months.

Brig. Gen. Arnel dela Vega, commander of a joint task force battling the Abu Sayyaf, said the ship will serve as a command and control center for naval operations. The navy is preparing to track down Abu Sayyaf members if they attempt to flee, he added.

Two policemen, villager injured by bombs in Thai south
[Anadolu] Bombs have wounded two police officers and a villager in southern Thailand two days after the killing of a four-year-old girl and her father provoked international indignation.

Colonel Theerapot Yindee said that a remote control bomb had exploded on a road in Pattani province. He said, "A pick-up truck was passing carrying six policemen, who were inspecting the road before the arrival of a group of teachers. The truck was badly damaged and two police officers were hit by shrapnel."

He said that another bomb targeting a police pick-up truck had exploded almost simultaneously in the neighboring province of Songkhla. The blast wounded a villager driving not far behind the police truck.

The attacks occurred while the far South was still in shock following an explosion early Tuesday which killed the four-year old and her father in front of her school. A villager wounded in the same blast died Wednesday from his injuries.

On Wednesday, the office of the Chularatchamontri -- the leader of the Islamic community in Thailand -- published a statement condemning Tuesday's attack as "a cruel act against the religious teachings of Islam."

The current Chularatchamontri, Aziz Phitakkumpon, is the first holder of the position born in the Malay Muslim south. His office urged the public to "unite and oppose violence against innocent civilians" and called on officials to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkish Military Gains Control of Four Settlements in Syria Operation
Turkey’s military announced on Thursday that it had gained control of four residential areas in northern Syria as it presses an offensive to sweep ISIS militants out of a patch of border territory and prevent Kurdish militia fighters gaining ground in their wake.

The military said it had taken control of the Kantara, Es Sehid, Al Humran and Taslihuyuk settlements. Turkish tanks and special forces, backed by fighter jets, entered Syria two weeks ago to support mostly Turkmen and Arab rebels in an operation which has secured some 90 km along the border.

On the other hand, Turkey has launched the largest operation in its history against Kurdish militants and the removal of civil servants linked to them is a key part of the fight, President Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday, as more than 11,000 teachers were suspended.

The crackdown comes as Ankara also pushes ahead with a purge of tens of thousands of supporters of U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, accused by Turkey of orchestrating an attempted coup in July.

Erdogan has repeatedly said he will not stop in his efforts to quash both the outlawed Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) or followers of Gulen, a network Ankara has labeled as FETO, meaning “Gulen Terror Organization”.

“We have run and are currently running the largest operations against the PKK terrorist organization in its history, both within and across our borders,” Erdogan said.

“Whether it’s the struggle against the PKK or against the FETO, an important dimension of this struggle is the removal of civil servants that are extensions of these organization within the state.”

Turkey has suspended 100,000 people following the failed July 15 coup. At least 40,000 people have been detained on suspicion of links to Gulen’s network and half of those arrested.

The scope of the crackdown has raised concern from rights groups and Turkey’s Western allies who fear Erdogan is using the failed coup as pretext to curtail dissent.

Following the coup, there has been no let-up in the government’s campaign against the PKK in the mainly Kurdish southeast. The group, seen as a terrorist organization by the United States, Turkey and the European Union, has waged a three-decade insurgency that has killed 40,000 people, most of them Kurds.

[ALMASDARNEWS] Syrian fighter jets pounded a large facility in the northwestern town of al-Tamanah of the Idlib province used by jihadi groups as an armory and explosive factory.

Syrian and Russian Arclight airstrikes have increasingly intensified on Idlib since local snuffies shot down a Russian helicopter on August 1st, savagely defiled the bodies of the crew.

From ARA News

The top military commander of the militant Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, a former al-Qaeda offshoot in Syria, was killed in an aerial raid that targeted a meeting of the group’s leaders, two rebel sources said on Thursday.

Abu Omar Saraqeb was killed in an airstrike in the countryside of Aleppo, where the group has been playing an instrumental role in ongoing battles against the Syrian army troops and Iranian-backed Shiite militias. The nationality of the jets that hit the location was not immediately known.

An Islamist source told Reuters the militants were in a secret hideout in the village of Kafr Naha. There were unconfirmed reports that several other senior figures were either injured or killed.

Al Qaeda’s powerful Syrian branch, the Nusra Front, announced last July it was ending its relationship with the global militant network founded by Osama bin Laden, to remove a pretext used by world powers to attack Syrian civilians.

The move appeared to be an attempt to appeal to Syrians who have long had deep misgivings about Nusra’s links with al – and the presence of foreign jihadists in its ranks.

The move was dismissed by Washington, which said it did not change its stance on the organisation that is listed as a terrorist group. Washington said the move was cosmetic and a rebranding that did not signal a shedding its ideology.

Turkish artillery hits Kurd positions in Aleppo
AFRIN – Turkish army forces bombed the Kurdish town of Afrin in Aleppo province in northern Syria with heavy artillery on Thursday, causing casualties among civilians, activists and eyewitnesses reported.

At least six civilians were killed and eight others were injured in the Turkish bombardment, which targeted the Sourkeh district in Afrin.

“Turkey’s military forces, stationed on the Syrian border, launched dozens of artillery shells on Afrin. At least 50 shells hit residential buildings in the Sourkeh district,” rights activist Roj Musa told ARA News in Afrin.

“Six civilians lost their lives so far, and eight others were injured, some of them are in critical condition,” Musa reported.

The bombardment also caused huge destruction in residential buildings. Local rescue teams continued searching for survivors under the rubble.

In the meantime, the Kurdish administration in Afrin issued a list of the names of the victims, and condemned the Turkish attack.

“While our forces continue to fight radical Islamists in the vicinity of Afrin and other areas of Aleppo province, the Turkish authorities intensified their military operations against the Kurdish areas in northern Syria,” a spokesman for the Kurdish YPG forces told ARA News in Afrin.

“The attack on Afrin confirms that Turkey’s intervention in Syria is mainly aimed at fighting the Kurds. All victims of Afrin attack were civilians, non of them was a terrorist as Turkey tries to claim,” the official said.

the SAA is said to have recruited 1,000 new Syrian marines which will likely be deployed to the Latakia countryside. Effectively, the SAA hopes to squeeze Jaish al-Fateh from two separate flanks, ultimately reaching rebel-held areas in Idlib province.

Syrian Army blows up rebel command center in Daraa
[ALMASDARNEWS] A house used by Syrian forces of Evil as a command center in the town of Bosra in northern Syria has been leveled to the ground by the Syrian Army’s engineering units, killing all forces of Evil inside, including commanders.

A military source told Al Masdar News that a squad of the Army’s Special Forces "daringly infiltrated behind enemy lines, planted explosives under the targeted building to be later detonated"

SANA.

Recently, the Syrian government troops have conducted series of precise and selective operations against armed rebels in the southern province with no full-scale military offensive being practically launched.

The source added that such operations depend heavily on intelligence, with the sole aim to kill as many forces of Evil as possible while reducing the risk of casualties among Army soldiers almost to zero.

Two days ago, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division destroyed a building complex that housed jihadist fighters near the reconciled town of ’Ibta in the Dara’a Governorate on Tuesday.

ISIS uses operations to mask attacks on civilians

[ARA News] DEIR EZZOR – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) launched an offensive on a district held by the Syrian regime in the eastern Deir ez-Zor province, causing dozens of casualties among civilians, activists reported on Friday.

ISIS militants bombed the Qusour district with mortar fire, targeting residential buildings.

“At least 23 civilians were killed and 30 others injured in the attack,” local media activist Samir al-Khalaf told ARA News in Deir ez-Zor.

The ISIS bombardment, that caused mass destruction to civilian houses in the Qusour district, took place after clashes between the group and Syrian army troops in the al-Joura neighbourhood of Deir ez-Zor.

“The Islamic State carried out this aggressive attack on civilians in al-Qusour after people refused to leave the regime-held district,” al-Khalaf reported.

ISIS accused residents of the regime-held areas in Deir ez-Zor province of cooperating with and providing a social incubator for the Syrian army forces–that are in conflict with the militant group.

A large part of Deir ez-Zor is now under ISIS control, while the pro-regime army forces try to keep their final positions in the city and its suburb, such as al-Qusour and al-Joura.
