-War on Police-
3 officers dead after shooting near Baton Rouge PD HQ
Domestic terror. 7 injured. Ambush shooting. Any guesses who? Keep it clean
Police have closed streets between Baton Rouge Police Headquarters and I-12 where law enforcement officers have been shot.

Sources say two Baton Rouge Police officers and one East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office deputy are dead following the shooting. Another officer was critically injured. EBRSO confirmed multiple officers from both BRPD and EBRSO sustained injuries in the shooting and were taken to area hospitals. There is no word yet on the extent of all of the injuries.

A witness told WBRZ News 2, a man was dressed in black with his face covered shooting indiscriminately when he walked out between a convenience store and car wash across from Hammond Air Plaza. Shots were fired around 9 a.m. Sunday. The exact location of the business where the shooting took place has yet to be released.

A very large manhunt began immediately with officers hurrying to contain the scene.

Both lanes of Airline Highway were shut down from Goodwood to Old Hammond and from Old Hammond to Drusilla Drive. LA DOTD confirmed the closures were related to police presence in the area.
Our race-baiting pols, Soros and pals, academics, and media have brought this on.

3 policemen feared dead, wounded in Kabul explosion
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] An explosion took place in the outskirts of Kabul earlier this morning with preliminary reports suggesting at least three policemen have suffered casualties.

The administrative chief of Bagram Ahmad Shafi said the incident took place after a magnetic bomb was detonated in a police vehicle.

He said an investigation is underway regarding the incident but did not say anything regarding the casualties.

However, another official in Bagrami district said a policeman has lost his life and two others were wounded in the explosion.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

This comes as at least 33 people lost their lives and 80 others were wounded in a coordinated suicide attack in the outskirt of Kabul late last month.

The incident took place in Company area of the city after a suicide bomber targeted the vehicle convoy of the Afghan police cadets followed by another suicide attack.

The Taliban group claimed responsibility behind the incident which was the second largest attack carried out by the group since they announced their spring offensive.

Earlier, at least 64 people were killed and 347 others were wounded after the militants attacked the VIP protection unity in the city in April.

Libyan forces battling IS in Sirte suffer losses in push to advance
[Iraq Sun] Forces aligned with Libya's U.N.-backed government suffered losses from snipers and mines on Friday, July 15 as they battled Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. to win control of a strategic conference center in the coastal city of Sirte, according to Rooters.

Islamic State is clinging on in the center of Sirte in the face of a two-month campaign by brigades mainly composed of fighters from the western city of Misrata. Their progress has been slowed by resistance from forces of Evil holed up in a 5 km area in central Sirte.

Losing Sirte would represent a major setback for Islamic State, which established its most important base outside Syria and Iraq in the Libyan city.

Sirte had been under the bad boy group's control since last year, and it had extended its presence along about 250 km (155 miles) of coastline.

At least 20 members of the government-backed forces were killed and 120 maimed in fighting in Sirte on Friday, said Aziz Issa, a front man for the central hospital in Misrata, one of the higher tolls in recent weeks of fighting.

A front man for the forces, Ahmed Hadia, said the latest festivities around the Ouagadougou conference hall complex and in the neighborhood of Ghiza Asskariya had been continuing for two days.

"Our forces entered the complex and are fighting (but) they still cannot take the complex," he said.

Militants had tried unsuccessfully to counter attack with three boom-mobiles, Hadia said. "The deaths among our forces on Friday were a result of targeting by snipers and of mines," he said.

The Ouagadougou hall became a key site for Islamic State as it imposed its ultra-hardline rule over Sirte, using the center for meetings and religious instruction.

The bad boy group expanded into Libya amid the political chaos and security vacuum that developed after long-time ruler Muammar Qadaffy
...Proof that a madman with money will be politely received for at least 42 years until his people get tired of him and kill him...
was toppled in an uprising in 2011.

three months ago in an attempt to unify two rival administrations and various armed factions.

While the new government has so far received support from powerful brigades from Misrata, it has made little progress extending its influence nationally and has continued to face determined opposition from hardliners in eastern Libya.

It was not immediately clear if the attack had criminal or political motivations, and the assailants have yet to be identified.

Arabia
JV (AQAP) claims attack on Aden governor
Yemen’s al-Qaeda wing has claimed responsibility for a bomb attack that targeted the governor of the southern city of Aden, according to US monitoring group SITE.

Security officials said on Friday that a car packed with explosives blew up when the convoy of governor, Aidaroos al-Zubaidi, passed by in the Inma area of Aden. One soldier was wounded in the attack but Zubaidi was unhurt. SITE cited a brief statement by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) on its Telegram channel on Friday saying it had detonated a bomb in a parked vehicle.

It said both Zubaidi and Aden police chief, Shallal Shayei, were in the vehicle, but gave no further details. Zubaidi was appointed governor of Aden after his predecessor was killed in a car bombing on Dec. 6 claimed by ISIS, AQAP’s main rival in Yemen. Attackers have tried several times before to kill him in car bomb blasts.

Drone strike kills 3 Qaeda suspects in Yemen
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Three Al-Qaeda suspects were killed in a drone strike in Yemen’s south on Saturday, security officials said.

The raid struck a vehicle carrying the suspected murderous Moslems in Shabwa province killing all those on board, the officials said.

The United States is the only country known to be operating drones in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
and has vowed no let-up in its war against murderous Moslems there who have exploited the power vacuum created by a conflict between the government and the rebels to expand their presence in the south and southeast.

Washington considers the Yemen-based Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000...
to be the network’s deadliest franchise and similar strikes have taken out a number of senior AQAP commanders in Yemen over the past year.
Drone strike kills 3 Qaeda suspects in Yemen

In March this year, a Saudi-led coalition backing the Yemeni government also turned its sights on the jihadists after a year of focusing its firepower on the Iran-backed Houthis and their allies.

Al-Qaeda claimed a suicide boom-mobileing that struck the convoy of the governor of Yemen’s main southern city Aden on Friday.

Aidarus al-Zubaidi had escaped unharmed after the attack but three of his lover companions were maimed, the official said.

Aden, the temporary base of Yemen’s Saudi-backed government, has seen a wave of bombings and shootings targeting officials and security forces.

Europe
Attack on Nice: Five held by French police
[BBC] Five people believed to be linked to the man who killed 84 people in Nice are in police custody, the Gay Paree prosecutor's office says.

Three arrests were made on Saturday and two on Friday, including the man's estranged wife, Le Monde reported.

Mohammed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel drove a lorry into crowds marking Bastille Day on the Promenade des Anglais on Thursday before he was rubbed out by police.

So-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
claimed one of its followers carried out the attack.

A news agency linked to the group, Amaq Agency, said: "He did the attack in response to calls to target the citizens of the coalition that is fighting the Islamic State."

'Extreme difficulty'
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said Lahouaiej-Bouhlel seemed to have been "radicalised very quickly".

He said the "new type of attack... showed the extreme difficulty of the fight against terrorism".

Prosecutors said Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, a 31-year-old Tunisian, drove the lorry 2km (1.2 miles) along the promenade targeting people.

Of the 84 who died, 10 were children. A total of 303 people had been taken into hospital following the attacks, the French health department confirmed on Saturday. Of those, 121 remain in hospital, 30 of whom are children, and 26 people are still in intensive care - including five children.

Stephanie Simpson, from the Lenval children's hospital in Nice, said one was in a "very bad" condition, three were on artificial respiration, one had been stabilised and one eight-year-old child remained unidentified.

The Grand Turk
Turkey coup: Sunday am quick update
These are the short stories appearing in the news.
Turkish PM Yildirim promises 'new start' in cooperation with rivals

[AlAhram] Cooperation between Turkey's political parties will get a "new start" in the wake of the defeated coup attempt, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on Saturday, promising that the usually fractious four main parties could find common ground.

Turkey: More than 160 martyred in coup attempt

[Zamanalwsl] The attempted coup in Turkey saw 161 people martyred and 1,440 injured, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said Saturday. Speaking in the Turkish capital Ankara, Yildirim said 2,839 military personnel involved in the “vile attempt” had been arrested. Some were senior officers, he added. He also said 20 pro-coup soldiers had been killed in Friday night’s attempt to overthrow the government.

According to the Interior Ministry, 1,563 military personnel were arrested across Turkey on Saturday and a number of officers were suspended from duty, including five generals and 29 colonels.

Final pro-coup troops surrender in Ankara

[Zamanalwsl] The final group of pro-coup Turkish military personnel surrendered Saturday afternoon, a security source said. Around 150 plotters, who are suspected of being members of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization, had been holding out at the headquarters of the General Staff and the nearby gendarmerie compound in central Ankara.

Three prosecutors went to the headquarters to receive the surrender of the group, which included 13 high-ranking naval officers, the source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media. Two buses carried senior officers away while other ranks, many wearing just their underwear, were put on three buses to be taken to a sports hall in Baskent on the western edge of the capital. The source said counter-terrorism officers would make detailed search of the compound, where earlier Saturday around 700 coup troops surrendered to police.

Two cheers for Erdogan: Europe hopes and fears after coup bid

[Zamanalwsl] European leaders greeted the defeat of Turkey's coup on Saturday with relief as it averts chaos and keeps alive a deal that has helped to stem the migration crisis threatening the continent. But while some hope a reminder of resistance to his personal grip on power may prompt President Tayyip Erdogan to heed European pleas for him to respect civil rights, many fear he is far more likely to step up his crackdown on opponents and so complicate European Union efforts to maintain the bargain. The coming weeks, starting when EU foreign ministers meet in Brussels on Monday, will be crucial to the fate of a plan at the heart of the migrant deal: to have skeptical EU lawmakers approve after the summer an end to visa requirements for Turks.

Erdogan Purges 2,745 Judges, Prosecutors; Arrests Hundreds

[ZeroHedge] We don't have to remind readers that when military coups take place in the middle-east, they are i) ruthless, ii) extremely well-organized and planned, and iii) succeed on virtually every occasion. But not this one. The question why is what the media (or at least its fringes) will be pondering over the next few days and weeks.

What there is no question about, however, is Erdogan's response, which as he warned last night, would begin with a quick crackdown against the army. As of this moment, hundreds of soldiers have already been arrested.

However, the real punchline was revealed moments ago when Anadolu said a top body overseeing judges and prosecutors has dismissed 2,745 judges across the country. Anadolu Agency says the emergency meeting of the Judges and Prosecutors High Council was held Saturday, mere hours after Turkish forces quashed an attempted coup, and promptly purged the slate clean of anyone in the judicial branch who was seen as even remotely opposed to Erdogan.

The Anadolu Agency added on Saturday that arrest warrants were issued for 48 administrative court members and 140 members of Turkey's appeals court: as if members of Turkey's judicial system - long on Erdodan's black list - were involved in the army's failed putsch.

As of right now, Erdogan has removed the two last hurdles on his way to absolute, supreme power: holdouts in Turkey's judicial branch and in the army.

U.S. to cooperate in Turkey probe, but no extradition requested: Kerry

[AlAhram] U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Saturday the United States had not received any request to extradite Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, but was willing to assist in legitimate efforts to deal with plotters of Turkey's attempted coup.

Turkey: Harboring Gülen is hostile act after coup attempt

[Hurriyet] Any country that would harbor Fethullah Gülen, the leader of the parallel state that is regarded as the mastermind of July 15’s coup attempt would not be Turkey’s friend, the Turkish prime minister has said, obviously urging the United States where the self-exile religious leader lives since late 1990s. Yıldırım indirectly criticized the U.S. for not understanding the concerns Turkey had expressed about Gülen, saying “This caused us to pay a big price.”

Prime Minister said Turkey has already delivered its request of extradition for Gülen.

Egypt blocks UNSC condemnation of coup attempt in Turkey

[DailySabah] The United Nations Security Council failed on Saturday to condemn the coup attempt in Turkey after Egypt objected to a statement that called on all parties to "respect the democratically elected government of Turkey," diplomats said. The U.S.-drafted statement also expressed grave concern over the situation in Turkey, urged the parties to show restraint, avoid any violence or bloodshed, and called for an urgent end to the crisis and return to rule of law. Statements by the 15-member Security council have to be agreed by consensus.

High-ranking generals detained in Turkey coup attempt

[Hurriyet] A number of high ranking soldiers were detained on July 16 in operations which came after security forces' quashing of a coup attempt in the country. The commander of the 2nd Army Gen. Adem Huduti and its executive officer and Malatya Garrison Commander Avni Angun and the commander of the 3rd Army Gen. Erdal Öztürk were detained in the operations. Meanwhile, another 10 soldiers, including two high-ranking generals, were also detained. Akın Öztürk, the former Chief of Air Staff, was also detained as a part of the operations.

Four top commanders and the Chief of General Gen. Staff Hulusi Akar were saved after they held hostage by the Gülenist coup attempters. Turkey’s top soldier Gen. Hulusi Akar, who was taken hostage by the coup attempters at the General Staff headquarters in Ankara with other leading commanders, was freed at the Akıncılar Air Base through an operation. The air force’s command, the gendarmerie command and some units from the armored forces took part in the coup attempt, he said, adding that it was quashed.
A lengthy article with plenty of other details reported, including that Erdogan's hotel, the prime minster's office and the parliament building were bombed.
Greece to return eight plotter soldiers to Turkey

[Hurriyet] Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said Ankara has demanded return of eight coup attempter soldiers , who landed on Alexandroupolis in Greece and that Athens accepted the former's request. The Black Hawk helicopter landed after sending a distress signal to authorities at the airport in Alexandroupolis in the country's north. Seven of those on board were in military uniform and all are believed to have been involved in the coup bid, ERT TV said.

2,839 detained over coup attempt

[Hurriyet] A total of 2,839 soldiers have been detained over the charges of coup attempt, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said July 16 in a press briefing. There are high-ranking officers among the detained. Broadcaster CNNTürk said four of them were generals and 29 of them were colonels.

Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ had informed that state prosecutors in all 81 provinces have already launched investigations on the coup attempt, saying “Detentions are mostly taken place in Ankara and Istanbul but there are other detentions in many other places of Turkey.”

Religious authorities Turkey condemn coup

[DailySabah] Leaders of Turkey's religious communities have released a joint statement condemning the failed coup attempt orchestrated by agents of the Gülenist Terror Organization (FETÖ). The statement from representatives of the Jewish, Christian and Muslim communities declared "our great sorrow over the terrorist attacks that disturb the peace of our great nation and of the world."

US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen: 'Attempted coup may have been a False Flag'

[Sunday Express]Today Fetullah Gulen claimed the attempted overthrow may have been staged, and he urged the Turkish people not to view military intervention in a positive light. Speaking from Pennsylvania he said: "There is a slight chance, there is a possibility that it could be a staged coup. "It could be meant for court accusations and associations." Gulen said democracy cannot be achieved through military action. He criticised the President Tayyip Erdogan's government. He said: "It appears that they have no tolerance for any movement, any group, any organisation that is not under their total control."

Georgia closes land, air borders with Turkey

[Ynet] Georgia has ordered its border with Turkey closed amid the instability from a military coup attempt. Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said the country's security council on Saturday discussed "threats that might arise to Georgia" from the situation and said both land and air borders had been closed. The former Soviet republic shares a 152 mile border with Turkey.

LTC(Ret) Ralph Peters comments on the Turkish coup.

[Breitbart] Fox News Strategic Analyst Lt. Col. Ralph Peters (Ret.) praised the coup in Turkey, arguing that those staging it were who the US should be supporting, not Turkey’s “Islamist fundamentalist authoritarian president.”

Wait, the air force and gendarmerie command were in on it? Now I know this was false flag operation, because there just isn't any reasonable way the would fail with that kind of power and backing.

(IraqiNews.com) NINEVEH – Official journalists with the Ministry of Defense announced foiling an attempt of targeting the floating bridge over Tigris River south of Mosul.

The journalists in a statement issued to the media, said, “The international coalition aircraft carried out an air strike that targeted a large boat carrying more than two tons of explosives near Haj Ali village,” adding, “The boat was en-route to attack the floating bridge that was established by the Iraqi troops connecting Makhmur with Qayyarah south of Mosul. Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Fighting continues between Kurds, rebels
[ARA News] ALEPPO – Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) were engaged in heavy clashes with Syrian Islamist rebels in the northern Aleppo province on Saturday.

The clashes centred in the vicinity of the Kurdish Sheikh Maqsoud district, where the YPG attacked strongholds of the Islamist rebels of the Aleppo Conquest.

At least seven fighters from the Islamic Movement of Ahrar al-Sham [Aleppo Conquest member] were killed and more than 15 others were injured in the clashes. On the other hand, four YPG fighters were reportedly injured while trying to push back the Islamist rebels from the borders of the Sheikh Maqsoud district, military sources reported on Saturday.

Speaking to ARA News in Aleppo, YPG officer Lukman Hamo said that the Kurdish forces have bombed two checkpoints for the Aleppo Conquest rebel factions near Sheikh Maqsoud, and seized several weapons and ammunitions from the rebels.

“The positions we targeted today have been for long used by those radical Islamists as bases for attacking civilians in Sheikh Maqsoud district,” the Kurdish officer said.

Last week, militants of the al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front, supported by Islamist rebels of the Ahrar al-Sham Movement, launched an offensive on the Kurdish district of Sheikh Maqsoud in Syria’s northern city of Aleppo, using mortar shells, amid attempts to infiltrate into the district, activists and military sources told ARA News. The Islamists targeted populated areas in the Sheikh Maqsoud district with mortar fire, killing at least four people and wounding a dozen more.

The Kurdish district of Sheikh Maqsoud has been under siege by Syrian Islamist rebels for years, and violence has recently intensified in the district as the Kurdish YPG forces have been trying to push back Islamist fighters of the Nusra Front (al-Qaeda branch in Syria) and the Islamic Movement of Ahrar al-Sham.

Amnesty International has recently issued a report in regard with the developments in the Kurdish-populated district, saying: “Armed groups surrounding the Sheikh Maqsoud district of Aleppo city have repeatedly carried out indiscriminate attacks that have struck civilian homes, streets, markets and mosques, killing and injuring civilians and displaying a shameful disregard for human life.”

Speaking to ARA News, Luqman Ismail, one of the stranded citizens in Sheikh Maqsoud, said that electricity outage continues for nearly three years because of the barbaric bombardment led by Islamist rebels on the main network of power outside the district. “These groups are apparently punishing the people of Sheikh Maqsoud for their support to the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), who are engaged in fighting with Islamist rebels around the city of Aleppo,” he said in an earlier interview.

ISIS slaughtering dozens of civilians in Aleppo

[ARA News] KOBANE – Militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Saturday infiltrated into the countryside of Kobane in Syria’s northern Aleppo province and slaughtered dozens of civilians, activists and eyewitnesses reported.

A group of ISIS extremists stormed the Kurdish village of Saikol near the Sarrin town in the southern countryside of Kobane, and broke into civilians houses.

“The terrorists infiltrated into the village of Saikol, avoiding security checkpoints of the People’s Protection Units (YPG). They slaughtered dozens of civilians, mostly children and women,” local rights activist Cheleng Hassan told ARA News.

“Clashes broke out between the YPG and a group of ISIS extremists in the village, where at least six ISIS militants were killed and a number of others were arrested. However, after the clashes, we were shocked by seeing dead bodies of dozens of villages inside the residential neighbourhoods. They were all slaughtered by knives,” an eyewitness told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Kurdish YPG officer in Kobane Habun Osman said that most of the victims were children and women.

“Those terrorists have infiltrated into the village while dressing as civilians. They took advantage of the fragile security situation in the village, as most of the YPG fighters in Kobane countryside are now participating in the ongoing clashes with ISIS in Manbij. Those barbarians committed a horrible massacre against innocent civilians as a revenge against the Kurdish forces after their victories over the group in different parts of northern Syria,” the officer told ARA News.

The southern countryside of Kobane has been exposed to several attacks by ISIS militants since the Kurdish YPG forces liberated the area from ISIS over a year ago.
