Burlington College announced today that it will close on May 27 after it found itself unable to recover from "the crushing weight of the debt" incurred under Jane O'Meara Sanders, the college's former president and wife of Bernie Sanders.
At the end of 2010, Ms. Sanders took out $10 million in loans on behalf of Burlington College to purchase a 32-acre swathe of land from the Roman Catholic diocese, which put the land up for sale to help cover the costs of a $17 million sexual-abuse settlement.
As Heat Street reported last month, the college almost immediately fell short on its financial obligations as fundraising pledges and commitments Ms. Sanders cited in the loan agreements never materialized.
Less than a year after leading Burlington College into massive debt, Ms. Sanders resigned, taking with her a $200,000 severance package. I bet she didn't redistribute it either!
By 2014, because of its shaky finances and running deficits, Burlington College found itself placed on probation for two years by the regional accreditation agency. Sounds like the Sanders have been practicing hard for what they do at the Federal level.
A Burlington College news release issued this morning called these financial hurdles "insurmountable at this time."
"We anticipate notice from [the regional accreditation agency] that we have not met the Commission's financial standard," the news release said, "and, therefore, our accreditation will be lifted as of January 2017, and the College will not be able to award academic credit after this time." Feel the Bern, motherfuckers. This is what happens when you let people that love to spend other people's money get in charge.
That's the problem with public virtue signalling -- it's usually polarizing, annoying at least half of potential customers. It's because of the risk of lost sales that wise business managers avoid politics like the plague it always becomes.
[YAHOO] Target is facing a nationwide backlash for its support of transgender rights.
More than 1.2 million people have signed a pledge to boycott the retailer after it announced last month that it would welcome transgender customers to use any bathroom or fitting room that matches their gender identity.
Critics have been holding protests and demonstrations at stores across the country, and they are showing no signs of dying down.

I have seen a big drop off in customers at my local Target. Cornell should have taken the opportunity to STFU, just like his competitors did. Bad quarter, bye bye Brian. If not sooner.
#2
What do the stockholders feel about it? I hear that Target lost about $2.5B (that's BILLION) of stock value since he made his pronouncement.
The Board will not be happy.

...Will be interesting to see what happens next - Target doesn't dare reverse the policy, lest they be called Hateful, Uncaring, Etc., but if the numbers drop they gotta do something.

Simply require single use. Have a sign occupied or available. Lock also. Temporarily provide port a potties to provide convince if needed. Have a required voice recording say "Deal with it" for the impatient ones.

Target has doubled down on rape friendly bathrooms. They are counting on this all blowing over in a few weeks. This needs to go to the next level. 1. Cancel Target store cards. 2. Target marginal locations where a 5% drop in business means closing the store.
[LASVEGASSUN] Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ... sometimes described as America's Blond Eminence and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Henry L. Stimson ... on Saturday again won Nevada at the state Democratic convention, after her opponent, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders ...The only openly Socialist member of the U.S. Senate. Sanders was Representative-for-Life from Vermont until moving to the Senate for the rest of his life in 2006, assuming the seat vacated by Jim Jeffords... , scored a surprise delegate victory out of the county conventions last month.
There was palpable tension between the two camps throughout the day at the Gay Paree Hotel in Las Vegas, with Clinton supporters barely outnumbering those supporting Sanders among the more than 3,400 conventiongoers. Still, a 33-person delegate lead was enough to sway the division of a dozen delegates who were up for grabs Saturday in her favor.
Who would win the majority of those delegates remained uncertain going into Saturday because Sanders was allotted more delegates to the state convention. In April, Sanders had turned out more of his supporters to the county conventions -- even though Clinton had won the popular vote in the February caucuses -- thus allowing him to send more delegates to the state convention.
Based on the presidential preference of conventiongoers, Clinton won seven delegates Saturday, while Sanders won five between two categories of delegates. Each category -- at-large delegates and Pledged Leader and Party Official delegates -- had an odd number of delegates, which means a narrow Clinton win gave her the delegate advantage in each category.

[City Press] A radical housing plan which would see vacant rooms in Sandton homes sub-divided for the homeless of Alexandra is one of the proposals of the Black First Land First (BLF) movement.
"White people are always saying they are happy to live with us, this is the perfect opportunity to prove that," national convenor of BLF and former EFF MP Andile Mngxitama told delegates at the movement’s launch conference yesterday.
It has been nine months since Mngxitama first announced the pro-black movement following his expulsion from the EFF. At the time it was unclear whether or not BLF would contest political power.
Speaking to City Press on Friday, Mngxitama said that the national leadership would put forward a proposal to delegates that they should in fact enter the political arena.
"We will use politics to end politics. The purpose of the movement is to overthrow white supremacy and to win back the land. We want to occupy the land, there is no solution outside of that."

white supremacy? When 75% of your population is white and you call yourselves a democracy, it's sort of obvious about how it appears. This is just another rationalization in the destruction of that democracy.

Comrade, the Ministry of Housing has determined that you have excess capacity in your house and so we have allocated it to another family. We expect you to welcome them with open arms.

If you want to get an idea of how this might end up, see the scene in Dr. Zhivago where Zhivago's house was deemed to be monopolizing too much interior space at the expense of the masses. Cue Lara's Theme.
A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing

Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
