Tapped Taliban phone conversation reveals panic among fighters in battlefield
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A tapped phone conversation between top Taliban leaders reveal panic among the groups fighters in the battlefield as the group is attempting to intensify attacks against the Afghan forces under their new spring offensive.

The Ministry of Interior (MOI) claims the phone conversation was tapped as two top Taliban leaders were discussing operations in the country.

The authenticity of the audio clip could not be independently verified which reveals a serious disagreement between the two senior Taliban leaders.

The commander overviewing the operations in the battlefield says the situation is sharply deteriorating and a number of the group’s commanders have been killed with their fighters.

He continues saying the fighters are losing morale but the other commander orders him to intensify attacks on Afghan cops posts which leads to almost a quarrel between the two.

The commander on the ground insists that the fighters have lost almost all their ammunition besides suffering heavy loss and losing morale to fight the security forces.

The conversation ends between the two as they do not reach to an agreement despite the leader instructing the commander on the ground to start their offensive, emphasizing that additional forces and equipment would be deployed to them.

The location where the Talibs were fighting the Afghan forces has not been ascertained but the group is mainly engaged in fight in northern and southern parts of the country.

Earlier, the Afghan forces repulsed major attacks of the group launched in northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan which is launched as the group announced its spring offensive.

of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group were killed in an Arclight airstrike in east of Afghanistan.

According a local security official, the Arclight airstrike was carried out in eastern Nangarhar

province, targeting a vehicle of the loyalists of the terror group.

The official speaking on the condition of anonymity further added that the raid was carried out in Achin district which was once a stronghold of the terror group.

The holy warriors were inside the car and were on their way to conduct terrorist activities when they were targeted, the official said, adding that the local residents did not suffer any casualties in the raid.

He did not elaborate further on who carried out the Arclight airstrike but both the Afghan Air Force and US forces are routinely targeting the loyalists of the terror group in this province.

The Afghan forces have stepped up operations to eliminate the loyalists of ISIS in Afghanistan amid concerns the terror is attempting to expand foothold in the country.

A front man for the US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan earlier said the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group has the potential to be an ’enormous’ threat in Afghanistan.

The US forces in Afghanistan have also increased Arclight airstrikes against the loyalists of the terror group with the chief of communications for the coalition, Brigadier General Charles Cleveland, kept in touch with the world by Obamaphone,

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least 18 Death Eaters were killed and 7 others were maimed in a series of Arclight airstrikes carried out by the Afghan Air Force in western Ghor province.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the Arclight airstrikes were carried out in Pasaband district targeting several hideouts of the Lion of Islams.

The Afghan cops have stepped up counter-terrorism operations as the terror groups attempt to increase insurgency activities by launching their spring offensive.

The Afghan forces have started the new fighting season with increased capabilities, specifically with improved air power by receiving more equipment and aircraft from allies.

The photographs were published by the loyalists of the terror group in social media earlier this evening.

Subtitles in Arabic language in the photographs identify the men as Abdul Ghafoor, Mohammad Rahim and Fazal-ur-Rehman.

The photographs shows three men blindfolded and are rubbed out by the ISIS loyalists as they have been given orange jump suits.

This is the first time the terror group’s loyalists have published the execution photographs of the Taliban group in Afghanistan.

The Talibs group has not commented regarding the report so far.

The photographs are released as the loyalists of the terror group were hardly suppressed in Afghan and US forces raids.

Army resumes laying barbed wire along Afghan border
[DAWN] LANDI KOTAL: Personnel of the army’s engineering corps resumed laying barbed wire at selected locations along the Pak-Afghan border on Saturday after the Torkham border crossing was reopened on Friday evening, sources said.

The sources said that Inspector General of the Frontier Corps
...a provincial paramilitary force. Total manpower is about 80,000. They are tasked to help local law enforcement in the maintenance of law and order, and to carry out border patrol and anti-smuggling operations....
, Maj Gen Mazhar Shaheen, visited the border crossing and observed the situation there.

On the occasion, they said, Maj Gen Shaheen instructed the border guards to show courtesy to the people crossing over into Pakistain or Afghanistan but keep a strict vigil on the movement of suspect people.

He gave cash prizes to the border guards who worked overtime during the four days the Torkham border crossing remained closed.

A great rush of people was seen at the crossing in the morning as thousands of Afghan nationals flocked to it after remaining stranded on the other side due to the four-day closure.

Officials and clearing agents told Dawn that over 300 vehicles carrying export items, edibles and other goods were cleared at the Customs terminal for their journey into Afghanistan.

A similar number of vehicles loaded with coal and marble, etc, crossed over into Pakistain, they said.

The officials said the recently-installed human scanning machine remained busy throughout the day due to the large number of Afghans seeking to cross over into Pakistain.

Restaurants, markets and offices of clearing agents in the area also reopened on Saturday.

Taliban Cut Off Main Highway Linking Kabul to North
Taliban insurgents have cut the main highway that links the capital with northern Afghanistan and neighboring countries for the past three days, according to Afghan officials in the area.

After the Taliban ambushed police forces guarding a stretch of the national Ring Road in Baghlan Province on Thursday, fighting continued through Saturday and appeared likely to last longer, according to officials in the area. The northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif was cut off, as were road connections to eight northern provinces.

Mubarez Hazara, an Afghan Local Police commander in the Surkh Kotal area of Baghlan Province, said by telephone that he and his 40 fighters were surrounded by Taliban insurgents. The insurgents had overrun a check post on the highway and remained entrenched and blocking traffic. Mr. Hazara said the road was currently under Taliban control, and while the insurgents were letting some traffic through, they were systematically searching for government officials or sympathizers.

It was only the latest setback for the country’s battered Ring Road, a highway network over 2,000 miles long built by international donors at a cost of $3 billion, and still not complete after more than a decade of work. Parts of it remain unfinished, other sections have repeatedly fallen under insurgent control, and on much of its length, only heavily armed military convoys can travel safely because of the risk of insurgent roadblocks and bombings.

The Ring Road connects most of the country’s major population centers. According to the Special Inspector General for Afghan Reconstruction, the road network is the second-biggest recipient of foreign development aid in Afghanistan.

The special inspector general has raised questions about the financial capacity of the Afghan government to maintain the road. Many parts of the highway have already degraded — even returning to little more than dirt roads in places — because of poor maintenance, use by overweight trucks and military vehicles, and damage from roadside bombs. Many of the newly built roads already need repairs, said Ahmad Shah Wahid, the country’s former minister of public works, who oversaw the project during his time in office.

... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
sect, on Saturday.

The security personnel were involved in Operation CRACKDOWN, a final onslaught to clear the remnants of the bully boys’.

Sani Usman, front man of the army, confirmed the attack, saying it happened around 1:45am.

Usman said five soldiers sustained injuries in the incident, adding that some turbans were also killed.

"Five soldiers were maimed in action as a result of mortar fired into the harbour area by the Boko Haram terrorists. The gallant troops successfully repelled the attack," Usman said in a statement.

"The maimed soldiers have been evacuated to the rear for treatment. Despite this incident, the morale of the gallant troops remains very high as they are determined to successfully clear Boko Haram terrorists.

"They further followed up with mopping up operations of the general area before advancing. They also recovered 2 corpses of the attackers and the following items; 2 AK-47 rifles, 2 Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) bombs, 5 rifle magazines, mortar bombs and a belts of Machine Gun rounds."

The statement added that one of the leaders of the sect on the wanted list of the army had been tossed in the calaboose
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
It said seven soldiers and four members of the Civilian JTF, the local vigilante outfit in the north-east, sustained injuries after running into landmines planted by turbans in a village at Dikwa in Borno state.

"The troops have also arrested one of the declared wanted Boko Haram terrorist leaders and also conducted patrols and clearance operations within the theatre of operations," the statement read.

"At about 1.35pm yesterday (Friday) troops of 143 Battalion arrested one Sulaiman Umaru, a suspected Boko Haram Death Eaters group member whose photograph is on the poster containing the photographs of the 100 Boko Haram Death Eaters declared wanted.

"He has since been moved to 28 Task Force Brigade Headquarters for further investigation. Troops of 21 Brigade have continued with the clearance operations at Yerimari, while troops of 22 Task Force Brigade Garrison have also embarked on patrols along Dikwa‐Mafa-Maiduguri road. The patrol was aimed at picketing the road to keep it safe and open.

"Similarly, the same unit in conjunction with some elements of 112 Task Force Battalion conducted a fighting patrol along Dikwa-Gulumba Gana road.

"The team had a fierce fire fight with some Boko Haram Death Eaters elements in which the troops killed quite a number of the Boko Haram terrorists.

"Unfortunately, while on their way back, the team ran into an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Antul, a village south east of Dikwa, in which 7 soldiers and 4 Civilian JTF accompanying them sustained injuries. The injured soldiers and their civilian counterparts have been evacuated to 7 Division Hospital and Medical Services Maiduguri.

"However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
the patrol killed 2 Boko Haram Death Eaters and recovered 2 AK-47 rifles from them.

"The patrol team had earlier intercepted 31 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), including women and kiddies coming from Sunabaya, Gumule, Garno and Mane-Gana villages.

"During preliminary investigations along with the vigilantes, one of the IDPs, Abacha Bulama, a native of Mane-Gana village, was found to be in possession of the sum of N1.9 million.

"Although he claimed to be a businessman, his possession of such large amount of money arose suspicion.

"While Bulama has been detained for further investigation, other IDPs have been handed over to Dikwa IDP Camp Manager for screening and further humanitarian assistance.

"On their part, troops of 254 Task Force Battalion, 25 Task Force Brigade have moved to Ngalimeri and shelled Boko Haram Death Eaters hideouts at Budumairi, Goneri Baleni, Mallam Maitari, Malemiri and Gombori."

Arabia
ISIS Attacks Kill 37 47 Yemen Police
A suicide bombing claimed by the Takfiri group ISIL and a second attack killed 37 police on Sunday in the Yemeni port of Mukalla, medics said.

It was the second attack in days claimed by ISIL in the city of 200,000 people which was recaptured by government forces from the Takfiris of Al-Qaeda with US backing.

The suicide bomber killed at least 31 police recruits on the southwestern outskirts of the city, which is the capital of Hadramawt province, medics said.

The bomber detonated an explosives belt as he joined a line of men at a police recruitment centre, a provincial official said.

More than sixty people were also wounded in the attack in Fuwah district, a medical source said.

Hadramawt's security chief, General Mubarak al-Oubthani, who was at the recruitment centre at the time of the attack but was not hurt, was the target of a second bombing when he headed to the centre of Mukalla afterwards, a security official said.

The bomb went off as Oubthani walked out of his office killing six of his guards but leaving him with only minor injuries, the official said.

An ISIL statement posted online claimed the suicide attack, the second but rare intervention by the Takfiri group in an area known as a stronghold of rival Al-Qaeda.

"Brother Abu al-Bara al-Ansari... detonated his explosives belt at a gathering of the apostates of the security forces," it said.

On Thursday, 15 Yemeni troops were killed in Takfiri attacks on army positions outside Mukalla. ISIL said one of its militants blew up a vehicle packed with explosives in an army base in Khalf district on the city's eastern outskirts.

The attacks included a suicide bombing that targeted the residence of the commander of Hadramawt's second military region, General Faraj Salmeen, but he escaped unharmed, officials said.

Two Daesh recruiters jailed in Kazakhstan
[RFE/RL] A court in the Kazakh city of Qaraghandy has jailed two locals on terror charges. On May 13, a court found Valery Khadykin and Quanysh Zhumaghaliev guilty of propagating terrorism, inciting religious discord, and recruiting militants for the Daesh militant group in Syria.

Khadykin, a Russian convert to Islam, was sentenced to 8 years and Zhumaghaliev to 5 years and three months on the same day. Investigators said the two were uploading material on the Internet calling on "real Muslims to join jihad in Syria."

Kazakh officials have said that hundreds of the nation's citizens are fighting alongside extremist groups in Syria and Iraq.

The Grand Turk
Kurdish militants reportedly shoot down Turkish security forces helicopter
[WAPO] ISTANBUL -- They were used to stalk Russian helicopters in Afghanistan, and the United States has worked hard to keep them out of chaotic Syria. But now Kurdish guerrillas battling Turkey's security forces may now have shoulder-fired missiles -- an acquisition analysts say will seriously challenge Turkish air power and potentially intensify fighting in the region.

On Saturday, media affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), a leftist militant group battling the Turkish state, posted a video purporting to show a fighter downing a Cobra attack helicopter with a man-portable air-defense system -- or MANPADS -- in the mountains of southeastern Turkey on Friday morning. Arms observers said this is the first time they have seen PKK fighters successfully using MANPADS in their four-decade fight against the Turks.

Reportedly a Russian SA-18.

Iraq
Islamic State attacks gas plant north of Baghdad, killing 11

attack on a state-run gas plant in Baghdad's northern outskirts on Sunday killed at least 11 people, including coppers, and forced two power stations it supplied to suspend electricity production.

A suicide boom-mobile went off at the entrance of the facility in Taji at around 0600 local time (0300 GMT), allowing another vehicle carrying at least six attackers with explosive vests to enter and clash with security forces, police sources said. Twenty-one people were also maimed.

The krazed killer group said in an online statement that four fighters with machine guns had killed the guards at the plant which it said the Iraqi army was using as a headquarters.

When reinforcements arrived, they set off a parked boom-mobile before clashing with the security forces and detonating their boom jackets.

A front man for Baghdad Operations Command said three of the facility's gas storages were set alight before security forces were able to bring the situation under control.

Iraq's Oil Ministry said the attack had not disrupted the plant's production of gas for cooking and electricity production.

But the Electricity Ministry said two nearby power stations had halted operations due to a cut in gas supplies from the Taji plant. It was not clear how long it would take to restore flow to the power stations, which provided 153 megawatts to the already overstretched national grid before the attack.

Video broadcast by Al Hadath TV showed a fireball surging from the plant.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian forces retake Deir al-Zor hospital from ISIS
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Syrian government forces retook a hospital in Deir al-Zor after ISIS attacked it on Saturday following a dawn offensive by the murderous Moslems on the besieged eastern Syrian city, a war monitor and state media said.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors Syria’s five-year-long war, said ISIS had killed at least 35 members of the Syrian armed forces and detained some medical staff from the hospital.

The fighting in and around the hospital also killed at least 24 ISIS fighters, the Observatory said.

ISIS’s Amaq news agency said its fighters staged a "major offensive" on the southwestern edge of Deir al-Zor on Saturday, storming the Assad Hospital and cutting the supply route between the a Syrian army base and the airport.

ISIS controls most of Deir al-Zor province and has laid siege since March last year to the remaining government-held areas in the city of the same name, which is close to Syria’s eastern border with Iraq.

Deir al-Zor province links ISIS’s de facto capital in the Syrian city of Raqqa with territory controlled by the bully boy group in neighboring Iraq.

ISIS also said it had taken control of a check point, a fire station, university accommodation, grain silos and some territory near the al-Tayyam oil fields, in the vicinity of the state-held military airport on the city’s southern edge.

Russia’s RIA state news agency on Saturday reported a source within the airbase on the southern edge of the city as saying an ISIS attack had been repelled.

The Observatory and Amaq said there were ongoing fierce festivities between government forces and ISIS in the area of the attack.

ISIS said it killed at least 80 government troops, took three prisoner and destroyed a number of armored vehicles.

The Syrian government and its Russian allies make regular aid drops into the encircled city and there are frequent air strikes on ISIS targets in and around Deir al-Zor.

Kurds prepare for more al-Nusra attacks on Afrin
[ARA News] AFRIN – The Kurdish security police of the Asayish has instructed civilians to avoid public places after Islamist rebels bombed the city of Afrin in Syria’s northern Aleppo province with Grad rockets.

The Asayish blamed the Nusra Front [Syria’s al-Qaeda branch] and Ahrar as-Sham for the attacks.

The Asayish in a public statement said civilians should hide in shelters if they hear the sound of missiles, and to not gather in public places and streets, and to keep children in the houses and report any places hit by the rockets.

Abdo Ibrahim, the head of defence in Afrin [in Kurdish Efrîn] said in a public statement that the attacks are not new. “The terrorist battalions try to drag us to breach the second truce,” Ibrahim said.

“We remain committed to any international resolution that would put an end to the bloodshed in Syria,” he said, suggesting that the SDF forces are the only solution to end the civil war.

Ibrahim accused the al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front of preventing the exchange of rebel bodies killed by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), after an agreement between the elders of Azaz and the SDF forces to exchange more than 66 bodies of fighters that were killed in Ayn Daqnah failed for three captives after objection of Nusra.

“This is the biggest proof that Azaz is governed by the Nusra Front and it’s affiliates,” the Kurdish official said.

Afrin Under Fire

Syrian Islamist rebels on Saturday bombed the Kurdish city of Afrin in northwestern Syria with a number of Grad rockets, hitting residential buildings and causing casualties among civilians, military sources and rights activists reported.

Islamist rebel factions stationed in Azaz city in the northern countryside of Aleppo province hit Afrin city with at least five Grad rockets on Saturday evening.

“The bombardment caused mass destruction in residential buildings in central Afrin, where at least three Kurdish civilians were killed and a dozen more injured,” rights activist Salim Efrini told ARA News in Afrin.

The source added that local rescue teams have been looking for victims under the rubble until Saturday midnight.

“Some civilians are most likely stranded under the ruins of the destroyed buildings. Volunteers of the rescue teams are still searching, and the number of casualties could increase in the coming hours,” Efrini reported.

The city of Afrin is under the control of the Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG)–that are in conflict with Islamist factions in northern Syria, including ISIS and al-Qaeda.

Speaking to ARA News, Kurdish politician and spokesman of the Syrian Democratic Union in Afrin Salam Hussein said: “Those radical Islamists are punishing civilians after failing to confront the YPG forces at the battlefront.”

Last week, Islamist factions, including Syria’s al-Qaeda branch of Nusra Front and Ahrar al-Sham, bombed the Jinderis district in Afrin suburbs, killing and wounding a number of civilians, according to local sources.

Beatings Will Continue: Mosul Edition
[ARA News] DUHOK – Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Sunday publicly flogged an Iraqi woman in the city of Mosul on charges of violating the Sharia dress code, activists and eyewitnesses reported.

“The ISIS-led Islamic Police arrested on Sunday morning a 35-year-old woman in Mosul central market under the pretext that her clothes contradicted the dress code imposed by ISIS in the region,” an eyewitness told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The woman has then appeared at the Sharia Court of Mosul, which accused her of violating the Islamic dress code and order ISIS jihadis to flog her in public.

“In front of hundreds of people, two masked militants whipped the woman with 50 lashes,” head of Nineveh media center Raafat al-Zarari told ARA News.

“The judges at the ISIS-led Sharia Courts have arbitrarily punished hundreds of people in Mosul on baseless charges,” al-Zarari said.

“Those public punishments take place on a daily basis in ISIS-held areas in an attempt from the group to show off its power over those vulnerable civilians,” he added.

Dozens of Women arrested in Syria’s Jarablus for violating Sharia Dress

In January, ISIS jihadis launched an arrest campaign in Syria’s northern city of Jarablus, targeting women accused of violating the dress code imposed by the radical group.

Local activists and eyewitnesses confirmed that ISIS militants have detained more than 30 women in Jarablus on charges of violating the Sharia dress.

Most of the arrestees were targeted in the central market of Jarablus late in January.

“They were brutally beaten by ISIS jihadis in front of hundreds of people in the marketplace, before being arrested and transferred to the women’s detention center in Jarablus,” a media activist who witnessed the campaign told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity for security concerns.

The arrested women were whipped in public on 29 January, accruing to local sources.

In areas under ISIS control, every woman accused of violating the Islamic dress code imposed by the radical group is being flogged 50 times in public as a punishment, based on extremist regulations of the Sharia Court.
