Authorities are still trying to find a serial arsonist responsible for at least five fires in a Queens neighborhood since October. Early this morning, a fire was set at the same Forest Hills location as a previous blaze.
The most recent fire broke out at 12:18 a.m., at 112-35 69 Road, and the police released an image of a person of interest, describing him as having a light complexion, wearing glasses, a scarf on his face, and a green helmet, riding a motorcycle.
According to the police, all four other investigated arsons "occurred on construction sites in the confines of the 112 Precinct. The suspect enters the sites, and ignites flammable combustibles before fleeing on foot."
The NYPD released video of a person walking through the site of the fourth fire.
The fires have been in an area that is home to one ethnic group. One homeowner told NBC New York, "I feel that we’re under attack. It’s some kind of sort of also terrorist attacks going against Bukharan Jews."
Two other fires are also believed to be the work of the arsonist. An encrypted message left at one scene has been determined to be a "mislead."
A neighbor told the Daily News of today's fire, "It's hard to believe with everyone watching this could happen again. I hope they catch whoever is doing this."

Oh, joy. They have a fire bug in their neighborhood. Unless the little s#!t is caught soon, the only thing that will stop him will be when he moves or winds up dead in an accident/incident.
I had problems with one years ago. Even got trail camera pix of him in the act. Local law enforcement would do nothing. Fortunately, he managed to get into a fatal car accident about a year (& 2 attempts to burn my barn! Fortunately well stacked hay bales are almost impossible to set alight, even with gasoline.) after the first known arson attributed to him.
Strategic Response Unit dispatched to Queensâ Forest Hills after seven Jewish homes set alight since October
Seven fires, the most recent set Sunday, have targeted new homes under construction for Bukharian Jewish owners. According to radio station WINS, a rabbi owns the home torched most recently.
An estimated 50,000 Bukharians, Jewish immigrants from central Asia, live in New York, the vast majority of them in Forest Hills and adjacent neighborhoods. In Forest Hills, the construction by Bukharians of large, expensive homes, mostly on plots that once housed more modest residences, has sparked tensions with longtime residents in recent years.
âRight now we have members of the Arson and Explosion Squad, Major Case Unit from the NYPD, Fire Marshals, and Queens detectives all concentrated on this area to find out who this person is,â NYPD Chief of Detectives Bob Boyce said, according to the Daily News.
Police, who said they do not believe the arsons are motivated by anti-Semitism, also plan to patrol the area at night.
âWeâre not looking at this as a terrorist-related incident,â Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said, according to the Daily News. âWeâre not looking at it as a hate crime incident either.â
While the police last week believed they had a suspect, based on information in a note left at the site, the suspect had an alibi and appeared to be innocent.
The Bukharian Jewish Center is offering a $50,000 reward for information on the suspect. The NYPD is also offering a $2,500 reward.
Former President Jimmy Carter, who has been receiving treatment for cancer, said Sunday that he was free of the disease, The New York Times reports. I wonder if the treatment also took the dementia liberalis with it.
Carter, 91, had elective surgery in August when doctors discovered a small mass in his liver. However, the procedure showed that the cancer spread to other parts of his body, including his brain. Personally, I think it probably started in his brain, but we can debate that later.
Carter, the 39th president, who served from 1977 to 1981, had treatment that included radiation and a drug named pembrolizumab. By November, Carter said he was responding well and the cancer was showing no further signs of growth.
While his doctors say it's premature to call him cured - they would need three to five years without legions to say that with confidence - they say his condition is proof that aggressive, varied treatments can have a positive effect.

91 years old. I would not count your chickens before they hatch. Still remarkable if true. How is this for a formula for the drug beelzebub pembrolizumab?:

Snark of the day for sure for charger.
Having said that good luck to him. The big C is a terrible way to go.
The other thing that amused me was the Chinese audience's reaction to the way China fit into the plot. [SPOILER ALERT!] Chinese audiences aren't dumb, and they know when they're being pandered to by Hollywood. In this case, the Chinese Space Agency's involvement in the rescue of Mark Watney was actually a part of the plot in the original book; it wasn't inserted by Hollywood in a bid to ensure box office success in China.
But the way the scene was done, cutting to China out of nowhere, just felt so similar to the infamous Iron Man 3 scene (with the Chinese doctor and the Fan Bingbing nurse cameo), that as soon as the audience realized that China was about to save the day, they all laughed. They laughed! They weren't proud or appreciative, it was just an, "oh puh-leeeze, here we go againâŚ" reaction. Thanks, Hollywood, you fuckface losers. Make the Chinese earn it, dammit.
I'm pretty sure that's not the Chinese reaction the producers were going for; hopefully Hollywood gets better at this!
Venezuela's opposition party has claimed the majority of seats in the National Assembly in elections held Sunday, the first major shift in power in the legislative branch since the late President Hugo Chavez took office in 1999.
The Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) took 99 seats to just 46 for the United Social Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Tibisay Lucena, president of Consejo Nacional Electoral announced.
"Venezuela, we won!" said opposition key figure Henrique Capriles, governor of the state of Miranda. "I always told you all, this was the way! Humility, maturity and serenity. Long live the people of Venezuela!"

You have not won yet until the present regime is thrown out of power and defanged.

According to Vinnie "The Pig" Maduro we should expect a violent Marxist/Military coup any day now.
[IN.REUTERS] Myanmar's former dictator sees erstwhile foe Aung San Suu Kyi as the country's "future leader" and has pledged to support her even though she is currently barred by the constitution from becoming president, his grandson said on Saturday.
Than Shwe ...The effective king of Burma. He has held positions within the military dictatorship since at least 1992 and has in the process managed to sideline or bump off all his rivals. Under his sway Burma has remained a xenophobic cultural and economic backwater. Than Shwe ranked No. 4 on Parade Magazine's 2009 World's Worst Dictators list of 2009... , who headed a military junta until he stepped down in 2011 and who many believe remains powerful behind the scenes, made the remarks during secret talks with the democracy icon on Friday, his grandson, Nay Shwe Thway Aung, said.
"It is the truth that she will become the future leader of the country," Than Shwe was quoted as saying by his grandson at the meeting with Suu Kyi, the first between the two.
"I will support her with all of my efforts," Nay Shwe Thway Aung quoted Than Shwe as saying in a statement posted on Facebook late on Saturday.
It was unclear whether Than Shwe's comments were a call for the constitution, drafted by his junta in 2008, to be changed to allow the Nobel laureate to become president. She is barred from the highest office because of her sons' foreign citizenship.
Attempts by her National League for Democracy (NLD) to amend the relevant article in the constitution have been rebuffed and its landslide election win last month does not guarantee it control of parliament.
Than Shwe has no official role. But though he has been out of the public eye since 2011, many in Myanmar are convinced he remains politically involved behind the scenes.

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
