President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday reiterated the government’s commitment to avenge the brutal killing of civilians by the alleged loyalists of the Islamic State terror group.
His remarks were followed amid growing anger by the rally participants who tried to scale the walls of ARG Presidential Palace this afternoon, forcing the palace security guards to open fire.
According to the Ministry of Public (MoPH), at least eight people including a reporter were injured in the incident.
The protesters also hurled stones towards the palace compound while demanding the unity government leaders to step down.
“I reiterate that we shall revenge the blood of our brothers and sisters from the Taliban, Daesh and other groups,” President Ghani.
President Ghani further added “We are all extremely pained by the horrific crime of Zabul. This is the act of our enemies. We will have reprisal. Must stay united, not divided.”
He called on the nation for calm following today’s massive rally, saying the enemy of the Afghan people are trying to create differences among the people with the latest brutal killing of the hostages.
The hostages including women and a child were beheaded by the militants believed to be loyalists of the Islamic State terror group, a month after they were kidnapped from a highway between Zabul and Ghani province.
The dead bodies of the hostages were found on Saturday from Khak-e-Afghan district of the restive Zabul province.
A court in Bahrain has revoked the nationality of two Bahrainis for receiving and facilitating explosives and firearms training in Iraq.
The two individuals have been convicted of terror-related offences and sentenced to ten years in prison. The Chief of the Terror Crimes Prosecution also confirmed that the individuals' citizenship has been revoked due to the seriousness of the offences.
The first suspect was found guilty of travelling to Iraq last year to receive terrorist training camps, with the intention of carrying out attacks within Bahrain upon his return. The second suspect was found guilty of facilitating travel, providing funds, and liaising with members of the terrorist group within Iraq.
This verdict came days after the court revoked the nationality of five Bahrainis for spying for Iran. They were sentenced also to life imprisonment.
[AnNahar] Slovenia's army began on Wednesday rolling out razor wire along the border with Croatia, an AFP news hound said, in a move billed by the government as designed to better manage the influx of migrants.
Slovenia last month suddenly found itself on the Balkans route taken by thousands of migrants heading to northern Europe, with more than 170,000 passing through the small EU member state since mid-October.
Prime Minister Miro Cerar had announced on Tuesday that the government planned to build "obstacles" along parts of its frontier with Croatia, an outer border of Europe's passport-free Schengen zone.
"These obstacles, including fences if needed, will have the objective of directing migrants towards the border crossings. We are not closing our borders," Cerar had told a news conference.
An AFP news hound in Gibina in north-eastern Slovenia said on Wednesday morning that soldiers were erecting rolls of the razor wire to about waist-height across fields.
Cerar had said that the measures were aimed at avoiding a "humanitarian disaster" caused by an expected sharp rise in migrant numbers this week following a recent dip.
He also said Austria -- the next country along on the migrant trail -- was planning to restrict the daily number of new arrivals to 6,000, creating a backlog in Slovenia.
Austria expects a record 95,000 asylum claims this year, an official said Wednesday, but the government has so far not announced that it will limit the number of migrant entries.
But its squabbling coalition government was expected to discuss on Wednesday similar measures to Slovenia.
Slovenia's actions came as European leaders were due to meet African counterparts in Malta to discuss the migrant crisis, which has driven a wedge between member states and boosted populist parties.
No doubt true but very incomplete. This says nothing about those deported to their home countries without trial or those who passed through unnoticed on their way to and from the battlefield.

[Hurriyet] The first six of 12 U.S. Air Force F-15 jet fighters have arrived at Adana's Incirlik Air Base to conduct combat air patrols in Turkish airspace at the request of its government, Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook has said.
Six F-15C Eagle jet fighters, which were designed to perform air-to-air duties, arrived at the Incirlik base in the southern province of Adana on Nov. 6, after the Turkish government requested them to secure the illusory sovereignty of its airspace, Cook told news hounds on Nov. 10.
He added that these six aircraft were part of a total of 12 F-15C Eagle jet fighters that would be sent to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... .
Stating that the request had come on the heels of the incursions the U.S. saw by Russia, Cook said the fulfillment of the request by the U.S. reflected "both our commitment to ensure the safety of our NATO ...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and organization.... ally and our commitment to degrade and ultimately defeat the [Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... of Iraq and the Levant] in Iraq and Syria."
Cook said the U.S. Air Force would also soon deploy F-15E Strike Eagle jets, known for their high capability in ground attacks, to the Incirlik base as part of the U.S.-led coalition's effort to combat ISIL. He did not share the number of the jet fighters or when they would be deployed.
"Beyond air operations, we continue our dialogue with Turkey to evaluate options on the most effective means of countering ISIL, including along its borders in a manner that supports Turkey's security and regional stability," Cook said.
The U.S. presence in Turkey includes U.S. personnel recovery assets and manned and remotely piloted aircraft already conducting counter-ISIL missions from Incirlik, Cook said.

[Rudaw] The self-proclaimed Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... , or ISIS, has established multiple checkpoints inside djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... to check for girls and young women because the group claims that many men have recently started disguising themselves as women, according to a Kurdish official on Wednesday.
"ISIS has recently placed several checkpoints on the main roads inside Mosul. Every woman will be checked by two women to make sure they are not men dressed as women," Ismat Rajab, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) branch in Mosul told Rudaw.
Rajab added: "ISIS is fearing that many men have started to dress like women so they would walk around easily because most of the men in Mosul had been asked to join the organization."

Well, since cross dressing is an ISIS trait to infiltrate opposing lines, I believe we might have one of those "eating their young" moments with ISIS in Mosul
[Rudaw] Almost a year and a half ago, five Kakai villages in the Nineveh plains fell to ISIS. The people of these villages fled to the Kurdistan region and they hope their areas will be liberated from ISIS soon by a battalion established for them by the Peshmerga ministry.
Good for them -- stepping forward to fight instead of letting others do it for them.
Although they have a Kakai battalion of only 120 fighters, some from the religious minority now want the Kurdistan Regional Government to establish a regiment as well. More can be found on the Kakai in the above video.
[Rudaw] The Peshmerga of a Shabak battalion are observing maneuvers of the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... in areas held by the group. They are eager to liberate their areas and return home with their relatives and loved ones who are now based at refugee camps in the Kurdistan region.
"We are Shabak Kurds. We want to liberate our areas. We should ramp up to clean our areas from ISIS. We are ready for any offensive, but waiting orders from authorities," Mohammed Idris, a Peshmerga from the battalion, told Rudaw.
Although there is a Shabak battalion comprised of 415 Peshmerga, the Shabaks have also called on the Peshmerga ministry to set up two more battalions. They have registered some 1,000 volunteers and gave these names to the Peshmerga ministry to consider starting more battalions and training bases for volunteers in order to be well prepared for battles.
"Our battalion belongs to the Peshmerga, and there is no difference between ours and other battalions of the Peshmerga ministry. We receive military equipment including ammunition and weapons. If authorities order us to liberate our Shabak territories, we are ready to do it," the battalion's Colonel Mahmood Shabak told Rudaw.
[Ynet] Statistics published by the Shin Bet show the increase in terror throughout the last month. Ten Israelis and one foreign citizen paid with their lives, while 80 were maimed. Jews carried out four attacks.
Eleven people were killed and 80 maimed during a bloody month that also saw 609 attacks carried out, according to data on the wave of terror published by the Shin Bet on Wednesday.
According to the statistics, which cover the month of October, the deadly terror attacks took place in Jerusalem, the West Bank and areas inside the Green Line. Among the dead were 10 Israelis and one foreign citizen.
Among the maimed, 26 were Israelis (18 civilians and 18 members of security forces) who were moderately injured or worse.
I think that might be a typo missed by the professional editor. Twice eighteen is thirty-six.
The statistics also showed that four Israelis were killed in shooting attacks, five in shooting and stabbing attacks in Jerusalem and one in a vehicular attack.
The Shin Bet's data also showed that four terror attacks were carried out by Jews: two arson attacks on Paleostinian vehicles and two stabbing attacks.
The breakdown of the data on terror attacks revealed that 11 of them occurred in the area of the Gazoo Strip (compared to four in September), 485 in the West Bank (151 in September), 117 in Jerusalem (68 in September) and seven in areas inside the Green Line (compared to none in September).
The attacks that came from the Gazoo Strip included five incidents of rocket fire (seven rockets in total), four incidents of sniper fire, one incident of an anti-tank missile being fired and one incident of a Molotov cocktail being thrown.
The Jerusalem and West Bank-based attacks included 36 stabbings, 23 shootings with a light weapon, 57 incidents involving an bomb, three vehicular attacks, one kaboom of a gas canister and 482 incidents of Molotov cocktail-throwing.
An awful lot of nefarious activity with relatively little harm done to the intended victims. Contrast with the number of Arab-Israelis and Palestinians killed, wounded, and arrested -- numbers which Ynet did not choose to report here because the contrast would be mortifying to the brave Lions of Islam.
[AnNahar] Iran will receive the bulk of the S-300 air defense missile systems it ordered from Russia by the end of the year, Tehran's defense minister has said.
"We signed a contract with Russia. It is being done. We will acquire a large portion of the systems by the end of this year," Hossein Dehghan told state television ... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
late Tuesday.
He said Iranian troops were being trained in Russia to operate the surface-to-air missile systems.
This week, the state-run Russian Technologies corporation (Rostec) announced the signing of a delivery contract in Tehran for S-300 missiles.
Moscow in April lifted a ban dating from 2010 on selling the missile systems to Iran, ahead of Tehran sealing a final historic deal with world powers in July to curb its nuclear program.
The decision sparked condemnation from Israel and concern from Washington, as it came before the lifting of the sanctions by the UN Security Council.
Russia will provide Iran with a "modernized and updated" version of the missile systems, following up on an initial contract signed in 2007, Rostec Director General Sergey Chemezov said in a statement.
