[McClatchy] WASHINGTON -- Despite a hack two years ago that publicly exposed Hillary Clinton's emails, the State Department took no action to shore up the security of the former secretary of state's private computer server.
A State Department official said the department could not do anything in response to the March 2013 hack of longtime Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal because it occurred on a non-governmental computer system. The hacked emails, which included Blumenthal's frequent correspondence with Clinton while she was in office in 2012, were sent by the Romanian hacker to media organizations, which later posted them online.
The disclosure renews questions of when State Department officials first learned that Clinton was doing department business on a private server and what steps they took to safeguard her sensitive diplomatic communications, some of which have been deemed classified.
National security and technology experts told McClatchy that the government should have taken immediate action, including implementing such security precautions as updating software and protecting passwords.
I simply cannot believe a flag was not raised and other gov't agencies were left unawares. Could it be that DoS was instructed to do nothing? What an amazing disinformation venue as well as political time bomb for future use. Only a power hungry, witless Hildebeest could have orchestrated such an incredible menu of self destruction.
Perhaps DoS realized that Hilarity wasn't saying anything that was at all important...

I have to wonder if there was not a certain vindictiveness in so carefully following regulations on the part of State Department staff, possibly to include IT staff not advising their former boss of her own security risks resulting from the Blumenthal hack. Ms Rodham-Clinton has a habit of making herself disliked among her subordinates, after all, dating back at least to her First Lady days.

Yes, there is something to the theory of subordinates looking the other way expecting dire consequences for people who won't listen. Usually, you try not to do that because you know in the end it means even more work for you to clean up afterward.

This was no infrequent, minor indiscretion. Someone would have undoubtedly objected, made a Memo for Record (MFR), filed an anonymous Waste Fraud and Abuse claim. I believe eventually someone at DoS will talk, pen an article or book, appear on Fox. I hope it's sooner rather than later. Foggy Bottom's recent clamp down on employee statements to Congress and the press are perhaps a foretelling.
[DAILYMAIL.CO.UK] While Hillary Clinton ... sometimes described as the Smartest Woman in the World and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Edward Everett ... claims she will be the champion of the little people if elected, the truth is that behind the scenes she is so nasty and abusive toward her own Secret Service detail and treats them with such contempt that being assigned to Hillary's detail is considered a form of punishment within the Security Service.
According to Secret Service agents interviewed for my book The First Family Detail, Abedin can be just as rude and nasty as Hillary. A former agent recalls helping Abedin when she got lost driving Chelsea to the February 2008 Democrat presidential debate in Los Angeles.
'She was belligerent and angry about being late for the event,' the former agent says. 'No appreciation for any of it, not a thank-you or anything. That was common for her people to be rude.'
At another event in Los Angeles, a female agent challenged Abedin because she was not wearing a pin that identifies cleared aides to Secret Service agents. The agent had no idea who she was.
'You don't have the proper identification to go beyond this point,' the agent told her.
'Huma basically tried to throw her weight around,' a former agent says. 'She tried to just force her way through and said belligerently, 'Do you know who I am?''
That got her nowhere. Eventually, Abedin - who is married to disgraced former congressman Anthony Carlos Danger Weiner ...aka Hot Dog Tony, the remarkably offensive sex maniac six-term New York congressman who resigned in 2011, then decided everybody had forgotten by 2013, when he decided to run for mayor of New York City... - cooperated with the agent and suggested a contact who could verify her identity.

Do you suppose the private server that Hildabeast was using at State with its less than top notch fire wall etc., might have been the gateway the Chinese et al. used to hack the WH and other US agencies?

I have always thought the resl danger from the Beest's server issue might eventually be foreign disclosure. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe it was OGA classified documents that prompted the initial concern.
Could have all been another minor Clintonian indiscretion to be ignored....... until massive foreign hacking was discovered.
#13 I believe "The Server" was compromised almost immediately after it began whirring. China, Russia and who knows who else, has been reading Ms. Clinton's e-mails for some time, and more than a few of them were derogatory towards Mr. Obama. An official from China, Russia, or who knows who else, let some of the e-mails slip to Mr. Obama, who was not, er, pleased. This would explain the Water Torture that Ms. Clinton now finds herself and the seeming unwillingness of Mr. Obama to stop the investigations. See also the photos showing a tortured William Clinton at the golf course this weekend past.
Also, substitute "Jarret" for "Obama," and the above still works.

Khadir's lawyers claim the terrorist is a changed man, and one Canadian court refers to him as a "model prisoner." On that basis, Khadr was granted bail pending an appeal of his original conviction, despite the objections of the prosecution team.

[Washington Examiner] Hundreds of email addresses from the Obama White House and key federal agencies appear to have been uncovered in a leaked list of clients who use Ashley Madison, the website that encourages people to sign up for a chance to cheat on their spouse.
Hackers broke into the cheating website, and late Tuesday, Wired.com reported that information on 32 million users was posted on a "dark" website used by well-known hackers. The data includes much of the personal information of the alleged users, and one link made available breaks the data down into how many clients come from various government websites.
According to that link, thousands of members of the U.S. military appear to be clients of Ashley Madison. But there also appear to be hundreds of users from other key agencies, including the White House.
The company confirmed to Reuters on Wednesday that some of the data released was authentic, but said it never stored credit card data on its website.

For the same reason the Chinese, Russians, North Koreans, and pimply-faced basement dwellers end up with just about anything they want from government payrolls to plans for the F-35: They think it's secure.

HERE is a world map of Ashley Madison clients. Hell, there are people in Alaska at Prudhoe Bay, Wainwright, Kivalina, even in the Aleutians were on the hunt. There is even one at Macquarrie Island between New Zealand and Antarctica.

I read a tech article last December, if I remember correctly, where a guy brought up a machine running Ubuntu Linux with no security precautions. It was under somebody else's control within 20 minutes of connecting to an external IP address.

[Breitbart] Abedin was working for the State Department full-time while simultaneously working for two private corporations: a consulting firm called Teneo established by one of Bill Clinton's former aides, and the notorious "charity" known as the Clinton Foundation.
The possible conflicts of interest from this... unique arrangement are so obvious that calling them "possible" conflicts of interest is a bit of a joke, especially as it remains unclear what invaluable one-of-a-kind contributions to the State Department Abedin was supposedly making. The procedure invoked to grant her a special exemption from the usual conflict-of-interest rules was intended to bring extraordinary, indispensable talent from the private sector into government service on rare occasions, not make it possible for Democrat royalty to lavish taxpayer money on their favorite retainers while they also hold down lucrative private sector jobs. Related: Wife of Carlos Danger and Beest's other aides could face charges.
[FREEBEACON] The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued a regulation on Thursday to stop referring to midget raisins as "midget" after an activist group called the term offensive.
The USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) issued the proposed rule, announcing the U.S. "Standards for Grades of Processed Raisins" would eliminate all five times the word midget is used. Midget has long been used to describe the differences in sizes of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, raisins.
"The action would clarify AMS grade standards by eliminating the use of the term 'midget,' while consistently using the term 'small' for raisins graded in that category," the USDA said in the proposed rule. "The industry has used the two grade terms interchangeably for years. The proposed grade standards would be applied uniformly by all handlers."
"These changes would modernize and clarify the standards by removing dual terminology for the same requirement," the agency said.

[DailySignal] The State Department has quietly issued a new policy that some insiders view as designed to keep employees from freely speaking to Congress or the press about Benghazi and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's email controversy.
"It's an absolute overreach," says Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz.
The State Department issued 19 pages of revised rules about official clearance for speaking, writing and teaching on July 27.
The new rules, first reported by Diplopundit, a blog that unofficially watches State Department leadership and management issues, say in part: "Employee testimony, whether in an official capacity or in a personal capacity on a matter of Departmental concern may be subject to the review requirements of this subchapter. Employees should consult with the Department of State's Office of the Legal Adviser or [U.S. Agency of International Development's] Office of the General Counsel, as appropriate, to determine applicable procedures."

“The revised policies and procedures are more protective of employee speech as they establish a higher bar for limiting employees’ writing or speaking in their personal capacity, while also recognizing changing technologies in communication, such as social media,” Toner said in a statement to Daily Signal.
The use of unauthorized computers by the Foggy Bottom elite, which facilitate the transfer of sensitive and highly classified data to foreign governments..... no big fuk'n deal eh ?
I believe I understand where they are coming from.

The IMO says you've got a few Ashley Madison entries on your email. Would you like to come up to my office. I think we can arrange some type of mutually beneficial repair. See you just after lunch.

All of this and the other scandals in the State Department over last few years might be just the proper excuse for a new POTUS, preferably a Republican to clean house at State of all of the Clinton and Mr. Redline appointees?
