MOGADISHU -- A suicide bomber detonated a truck packed with a ton of explosives outside Jazeera hotel in Somalia’s capital Sunday, setting off a blazing blast that shattered large parts of the luxury hotel, and killed at least 8 people and wounded many others, officials said Sunday.
The heavily guarded hotel frequented by government officials and foreigners houses Chinese and Egyptian diplomats. Police officials said the bomber has rammed his explosives-laden vehicle on the wall of the hotel, and the attack is one of the largest terrorist attacks in the horn of Africa nation.
Evidently it wasn't guarded heavily enough...
It's Somalia. "Heavily guarded" means a half-dozen half-trained youths sharing an AK-47.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack; however, officials blamed the al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabab group which often carries out attacks in Somalia.

The military spokesperson has yet to release a statement about the attack.

Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there... , while in a crowded market in neighbouring Nigeria a "mentally handicapped" female attacker killed 14.

Early Sunday in the northeastern Nigerian town of Damaturu, a woman described by locals as "mentally unstable" detonated herself at the entrance of a market, trader Garba Abdullahi told AFP.

[FOXNEWS] Saudi-backed Yemeni troops and their allies clashed with Shiite Houthi ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ... rebels in a strategic town north of the port city of Aden Sunday, security and military officials from both sides of the conflict said.
The pro-government fighters had withdrawn from the town of Sabr earlier in the day after fierce battles with Shiite Houthi rebels. They returned hours later following the arrival of military reinforcements and wrested control of a large portion of the town, security officials said.
The officials said five pro-government fighters were killed and 15 maimed in the battle. Local medical officials said eight rebels were killed and 20 maimed.
The running battles in Sabr, which is on a key supply route, have lasted for more than a day after troops stormed it in their push north from Aden toward the strategic military base of Al-Anad, which is held by the rebels.
The fighting came hours before the start of a five-day humanitarian pause announced by the Saudi-led coalition.
"If the Houthis and their allies do not stop fighting, we will continue to fight," said an official allied with the Saudi coalition.
The rebels, known as Houthis, have expressed doubt over the truce, which is set to begin Sunday just before midnight. One Houthi official said it will likely mark "the beginning of a new war."

[RUDAW.NET] Iraqi government forces recaptured Anbar University from the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... bad boy group Sunday after hours of fierce festivities, provincial officials said, as part of its push to reclaim territory across the embattled province.
The university, located 5 kilometers (3 miles) south of Anbar's quiet provincial capital, the bad boy-held city of Ramadi, was under the full control of government forces, which had entered the complex early Sunday amid intense combat with the bad boy group.
Athal al-Fahdawi, a provincial councilman said a number of buildings in and around the university complex have been badly damaged or destroyed, but that the Death Eaters retreated. Another Anbar councilman, Faleh al-Issawi, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that about two dozen Islamic State fighters were killed in the festivities. He declined to provide more details.
The Iraqi military launched a large-scale operation this month to retake Anbar province, in which most of the biggest cities are held by the Islamic State group. The loss of Ramadi in mid-May recalled the collapse of Iraqi security forces last summer in the face of the Islamic State group's blitz into Iraq that saw it capture a third of the country, where it has declared an Islamic caliphate.
A US-led coalition has launched more than 3,000 Arclight airstrikes in Iraq, many of them in Anbar province. The fall of Ramadi was the latest defeat on the ground calling into question the B.O. regime's hopes of relying solely on Arclight airstrikes to support the Iraqi forces in expelling the myrmidons.
Government-backed forces, which include the Iraqi military, Shiite militias and Sunni tribes, are also currently assembling around the bad boy-held city of Fallujah, ... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids... which was the first major city in Iraq to fall to the bad boy group in early 2014.
Troubles first began for Anbar University in June 2014 when Death Eaters stormed the campus, briefly taking students hostage before withdrawing from the school amid gunfire. Ramadi was long under the protection of the local tribes and government-backed forces, which managed to hold on to the city longer than most others in the province.

[ALMANAR.LB] Medical and police officials in Iraq say over a dozen people have been killed and tens of others injured when two bombers struck a crowded swimming pool in the country's northern province of Salahuddin.
The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity ... for fear of being murdered... , said a bomber detonated his boom vest at the pool in the town of Tuz Khurmatu, situated 175 kilometers (110 miles) north of Baghdad, as dozens of men and children had gathered to cool out amid sizzling summer days.
Shortly afterwards, another bomber set off explosives attached to a cycle of violence parked at the entrance of the swimming pool whilst police and rescue teams were evacuating the casualties.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. However, the hip bone's connected to the leg bone... Iraqi officials usually blame such assaults on the Takfiri ...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed... ISIL terrorists.

Allah doesn't want people to cool off from the desert heat?
[Ynet] Police force their way into al-Aqsa Mosque, where Arab youths equipped with stones and fireworks barricaded themselves overnight; coppersmaimed; riot dispersed.
Police forced their way into al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem on Sunday morning, with several officers maimed after Arab Arab youths threw stones and launched fireworks at them.
Jerusalem District Police received information that some youths had barricaded themselves inside the mosque overnight and collected stones, planks, and Molotov cocktails with the purpose of altercating with police and disturbing the visits of Jews arriving at the Temple Mount complex for Tisha B'Av prayers.
There's a long tradition of Muslims gleefully hurling missiles from the Al Aqsa platform onto the heads of Jews praying at the Western Wall below. One simply can't understand the insistance of Israeli authorities on interfering.
Tisha B'Av is an annual fast day commemorating the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem. Paleostinians were angered by what they considered intrusions by Jews. Visits are allowed, but Jewish prayer at the site is prohibited.
The youths, some of whom wore face masks, created barricades to prevent the door into the mosque from being closed using shoe racks, iron rods, and ropes.
When a police team approached the mosque, the youths started throwing stones and launching fireworks at them. Police and paramilitary Border Police forces entered the complex as the rioters escaped into the mosque and threw dozens of stones and concrete blocks.
Police began to remove the barricades placed at the entrance to the mosque. They went a few meters into the mosque to shut the doors in a bid to restore calm and lock in rioters who were inside.
About 300 security personnel had entered the compound when the festivities began with a couple of hundred Paleostinians, an AFP photographer reported.
The police said that after their brief foray into the mosque, they withdrew and the area was quiet. Access to the site was later restricted. Police said the Temple Mount complex was closed on time and that during the day it was visited by some 1,200 visitors.
At least three Paleostinians throwing stones were placed in durance vile Into the paddy wagon wit' yez! and four coppers were slightly maimed.
The Jordanian government condemned the police's response. Jordan's communications minister and government front man, Mohammad al-Momani, criticized "Israel's provocation against Arabs and Moslems by breaking into the al-Aqsa complex." According to al-Moman, the police activity hurt the feelings of all Arabs and Moslems and could lead to more hatred. He demanded that the Israeli government take responsibility as the "occupying power".
Protests broke out in the lanes and alleyways of the Old City around the mosque, with demonstrators confronting police and chanting "Allahu Akbar" and police firing stun grenades. Some vowed to protect Al-Aqsa, with one man saying the holy site "is in our blood."
"We are ready to die," Khaled Tuffaha, a 46-year-old Paleostinian shop owner. "Everybody is ready to die."
Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel of Bayit Yehudi visited the Temple Mount on Sunday for the sacred day, a step that was coordinated with the Internal Security Ministry and the police.
The Jordanian government condemned the fact Jewish worshipers were allowed onto the Temple Mount, including Ariel (Bayit Yehudi). The Paleostinian foreign ministry also condemned Israeli authorities for allowing what they described as "provocative" visits by hardline Jews.
Police had increased their presence in and around the Temple Mount overnight Saturday after a video of a Jewish woman insulting the Prophet Muhammad went viral over the weekend.
A group of Jews visiting the Temple Mount Thursday were being escorted out of the site into the alleys of the Old City when they were heckled by the Murabitun, self-proclaimed guardians of site -- holy to both Jews and Moslems -- who are funded by the Islamic Movement.
A woman from the Jewish group decided to respond, looking into the camera of a person assumed to be a member of the organization, and saying in Hebrew: "Muhammad is a pig."
The statement enraged the Moslem women in the organization, who then shouted insults and threats of violence at the Jewish woman. Border Police officers escorting the Jewish group had to place themselves between the two groups to prevent violence.

[Ynet] Rioters throw fireworks at Israeli security forces during festivities, use gunpower for makeshift pipe bomb; store had NIS 150,000 worth of products.
Police exposed a toy store in the Paleostinian village of Barta'a on Sunday morning, which allegedly sold fireworks used by Arab rioters against IDF soldiers and Border Police officers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Police jugged Please don't kill me! three Paleostinians suspected of selling hundreds of boxes of fireworks to rioters. They also confiscated 150 boxes worth over NIS 150,000.
"It turned into a makeshift weapon against security forces on the Temple Mount, in East Jerusalem and across the West Bank," said a detective from the Judea and Samaria District Police.
Investigators said that the gunpowder found inside the fireworks was used in the past as an explosive in makeshift pipe bombs.
"At first we only saw these fireworks in weddings, but over the past year it turned into a weapon against soldiers and coppers," a police official said. "We received orders to enforce the ban (against the fireworks). And indeed, following a tip, we found a main supplier working in the village of Barta'a."
The police source said that "inside the store there were only a few boxes with fireworks, but those who asked for commercial amounts were asked to wait and got massive amounts from the storeroom. Each box like this costs NIS 1,000 and customers, most of them Paleostinians, bought 20 boxes and more."
Detectives from the police's Central Unit made several staged purchases, following which special Border Police forces, Central Unit detectives and IDF troops raided the store in the village.
Security forces also seized guns that are used to fire iron bullets.
"The firing of fireworks at security forces during rioting, specifically in Jerusalem and villages in Judea and Samaria, poses a lethal threat to the coppers and soldiers dealing with the rioters," said police investigator Shai Kovnator, the head of the Central Unit.
[Tempo] New People's Army militants gunned down a former member of the Philippine military who was walking alone yesterday morning in Oas, Albay. Victim Ramil Oray was a former member of the 9th Infantry Division, based in Barangay Tula-Tula Grande, Ligao City.
An initial investigation showed the incident happened at about 7 a.m. while Oray was on his way home. The armed militants blocked his way and then shot and killed him. The suspects fled into the hills.
Police said the militants suspected the former soldier to be providing information to the military about their activities.
Meanwhile, another group of militants gunned down a farm hand whom they suspected to be a military informant Friday night in Lagonoy, Camarines Sur. A police report said that the victim working at the farm when the suspects arrived, poked guns at him, tied his hands, and shot him. The insurgents casually walked away after the execution.
The police said the NPA suspected him of being a military asset, and giving information about their activities in the area, which his relatives have vehemently denied.
[Ynet] The United States and its allies made 20 air strikes against Islamic State in Iraq on Saturday, with targets near Ramadi bearing the brunt of the attacks, the military said on Sunday.
