What is a shutter gun? I see this mentioned often in Rantberg articles, but I have no clue what this is. Google, et al does not answer this question. Maybe one of the gun experts can post an article explaining this in some detail, mostly how it works and how it differ from a 'normal' gun.
This is not intended to be an actual post so I won't feel bad if this doesn't get posted! :) But I (and many others, I'm sure) would appreciate a good article on this subject matter!
Much thanks. We wondered about that for years, until Dhaka's Daily Star published a picture. It's a single shot pistol that fires a .410 shotgun shell. I've actually held one, though I didn't fire it. It didn't look like it had ever been cleaned. it was WWII vintage, handed out to partisans against the Japanese. The one the Star showed was probably Indian manufacture for Bangla's war for independence from Pakistain.

Since it's ask Fred anything day, is Mosul really infested with Djinns?

I have carefully analyzed the picture of the gun above and must respectfully submit that that gun does not qualify as a shutter gun.
The term "shutter gun" was very common in the U.S. during the civil war, especially in the South. Today the term has evolved to mean different things in different countries. And although it may be mislabeled by the Daily Star or maybe even designated as a shutter gun by the RAB the most obvious mechanical features of a shutter gun are obviously and completely missing from this gun's design.

In Ask Anything Day - Why do people always refer to Nazis as "right wing" when they were socialists.
They were nationalist, and socialist. They made a pact with the internationalist bolsheviks (ribbentrop-molotov) but that then fell apart.
"Right wing" would be the capitalist USA and Britain that fought the Nazis. So how come every time there is anything nazi people say "far right" or "right wing"?
I remember when Soviet power was collapsing in the period 1989-1991, how unreconstructed Communists were referred to as "right wingers" or "conservatives".

This is a serious question, I'm glad that most of you know what a shuttle gun is.
How about explaining to those of us who are clueless please?
The only explanation I got that remotely made sense came from a friend who explained that it's a single or double barreled gun/rifle where the barrel crack open and the ammo is removed and loaded manually (AKA 'Break action'). It differ from a shotgun in that it use solid bullets instead of shots. But this friend is not a gun expert so I'm not sure if the above is correct or not, which is why I'm asking for a knowledgeable person or expert explanation.

Seeking dear, the serious answer for the Rantburg context is the one from Mr. Pruitt in Post-It Note yellow with the photo, which was only discovered a few months ago. Until then we all were precisely as frustratedly ignorant as you were a moment ago. ;-)

Originally the term shutter gun referred a single shot breech loading shotgun that was hinged and broke-over (opened) in the middle.
The reason it was called a "shutter" was because to load the gun you slid a shell into the breech and then snapped it "shut".
Some people would cut off the stock at the pistol grip and shorten the barrel to make it into a pistol.
"Shutter gun" more recently became slang for a sawed off modified shotgun. Several companies began producing short barreled pistol grip shotguns which they advertised as shutter guns. Some of them were absolutely beautiful and very expensive. Some Italian models sold for many thousands of dollars.
Shutter guns were very popular in Pakistan during the British rule. There are still quite a few of them in circulation in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Plus a lot of cheap home made ones.
Short barreled shutter guns the last time I checked were still illegal in the U.S. and never were popular here.
In the U.S. Southern states a single shot breech loading long barreled shotgun is still called a shutter gun in some localities.
So now the mystery is solved. It's been fun. Sometimes it's more fun to be wondering than it is to be knowing.
I came across the term Vacuum Missile the other day, and finally had to look it up after my mind came up with the Al-Cleavers in a typical kitchen. Daaaaad! Where are the potato mashers? Over on the barrel bomb son, but first go fetch the vacuum missile for your moms, and close the shutter gun, its too bright outside.
It is slang for thermobaric, which then made sense.

Still no photo to be found of its polished mahogany engraved velvet-lined fitted gun case (with slot for round of bullet).
I guess we might never know.

Thank you Junkiron and trailing wife! The photo from Mr. Pruitt does appear to be a shutter gun according to Junkiron's description. There's what appears to be a lever on the side (next to the hammer) that release the barrel which then swivel on a point forward of the trigger under the barrel for unloading and loading what looks like shotgun shells (not sure what gauge, my guess is .410, but could be 12 gauge) in the barrel. Then the barrel gets 'shut'.
So my take away on this is that guns called "shutter gun" because it's "shut" closed and is actually a "break action" gun that can fire either shots or solid projectiles.
It's the "break action" part that makes it a "shuttle gun".
Thank you very much, a lamp has been lite inside my head!

Hmm, I know Mr Pruitt said the gun in the photo fires .410 shells, but the shells somehow looks bigger than a .410 in the picture, so it's hard to be sure.

[BearingArms.com] Several of the top Republican Presidential candidates are calling to rescind that policy. While some are incorrectly blaming Bill Clinton for the policy, the current version of the regulation most accurately dates to George H.W. Bush, and variations of it date back to Nixon.
All of that is irrelevant, however.
What matters is that we've now had five mass shootings on military facilities during Barack Obama's presidency. The policies, originally designed to mitigate the risk of negligent discharges, may have worked from the time of Nixon up until the time we started seeing credible threats of attacks on domestic military facilities.

As per CNN AM, IIUC the Mayor of Chattanooga has decided to unilaterally the city's flags in mourning in protest = lieu of waiting for the Bammer Admin to finally declare a state of national mourning for the Chattanooga Marines.
Seems the Bammer is taking too long to declare honorarium per the Chattanooga dead???

The "Nazi" salute was lifted from the Italian fascists, who lifted it and the idea from the Romans. You were supposed to holler "ave!" as you were giving it. In the 1930s, before the fascists and the Nazis were murderous enemies, fascism--the corporate state, everybody working together toward a common goal--was the Wave of the Future. Most of the countries in Europe had fascist parties, until the were running out of different colored shirts. It was considered a good thing (in theory) to have bands of fascisti running around a country righting wrongs.
My grandfather had been an idealistic fascist in Italia until some other idealistic fascists tried to bump him off, at which point he headed south, from Fiume to Reggio Calabria, got married, emigrated, an got a job.
Probably he hollered something like "ave atque vale" when he left, but I never asked him because at the time I was young and idealistic and merely knew that Fascists were bad guys.

[IsraelTimes] Republicans promise to 'invalidate' nuclear accord if elected, but to do so they'll have to turn their backs on US allies and likely go it alone on sanctions
If Iran lives up to its obligations, a new president could face big obstacles in turning that campaign promise into US policy. Among them: resistance from longtime American allies, an unraveling of the carefully crafted international sanctions, and damage to US standing with the rest of the world, according to foreign policy experts.
Of course if Iran does not live up to its obligations, how blatant would it have to be before it would be acknowledged?

An early morning bombing raid on one of their key nuclear military sites with deep penetrating munitions might assist the 'scuttling.'
Say nothing beforehand, say nothing afterward. The message will be received, the challenge extended. If they act with further belligerence, destroy them all. Again saying nothing beforehand, or afterward.

I'm assuming a NUDET somewhere near The Won's golf game would move him enough to notice. Anything short of that, I'm afraid, would probably be ignored.

Ah, people: president is a purely ceremonial position in Israel. PM is the chief executive.

In my opinion the entire agreement can only be understood to be designed to relieve Iran of all sanctions and then allow Iran an unfettered way to default and then simply declare the entire agreement null and void.
The only proof any coherent person should need is to read the DISPUTE RESOLUTION MECHANISM in the agreement.
All members have the same rights to walk away but what would be the point since Iran has the rights to cease performing its commitments if sanctions are reinstated .
(From section 37 of the DISPUTE RESOLUTION MECHANISM)
{The UN Security Council, expressing its intention to prevent the reapplication of the provisions if the issue giving rise to the notification is resolved within this period, intends to take into account the views of the States involved in the issue and any opinion on the issue of the Advisory Board.
Iran has stated that if sanctions are reinstated in whole or in part, Iran will treat that as grounds to cease performing its commitments under this JCPOA in whole or in part.}
Could it be any clearer ?
Rather than prevent war, the Iran Nuclear Agreement leaves Israel with no other choice but to declare war on Iran as their only remaining means to ensure the survival of the Jewish nation.
Any U.S congressman or congresswoman who votes to ratify this insult to democracy deserves to be ran out of their own district (and Washington) on a rail.

Iff the Bammer's post-Jan 2017 POTUS successor is another Anti-US US = Anri-American Amerikan OWG Globalist, he or she will have no need to scuttle the Iran deal as they will continue US support for Iran.
DON'T FEAR ANTI-US US OWG GLOBALIST POTUS OBAMA - FEAR MORE HIS ANTI-US US OWG GLOBALIST POTUS SUCCESSOR(S?).
Becuz whatever the Bammer doesn't finish or complete by Jan 2017, his follow-on Globies successor(s) will. Iff the US Mainstream thinks thingys are bad now, IT CAN STILL BE MUCH WORSE.

[ArmstrongEconomics] So all of a sudden, Teheran is worthy of a deal. This has nothing to do with preventing Iran obtaining nuclear weapons. That is the fluff for distraction. This is still the policy of Obama to try to isolate Russia. Meanwhile, this policy has merely forced a stronger bond between Russia and China -- a really dumb move. Both China and Russia would love to dethrone the dollar and strike the USA where it hurts -- economically. Nobody is really interested in waging nuclear war.
Iran might be, given they trust Allah will take a hand in the proceedings.
That may not always be the case if the economy melts-down.
[WashingtonStandard.com] In the wake of Thursday's jihad attack on a military recruiting center in Chattanooga, Tennessee that left four United States Marines dead, one Marine says he has had enough and has gone to social media to inform the Islamic State, "You wanted attention, and yesterday, you got it. Only, you chose the wrong people to seek that attention from." He was talking about the United States Marines.
Marine Sergeant Jeremy L. Knauff, who served honorably in the United States Marine Corps for four years after graduating from high school, took to Facebook to rip the weakness of Barack Obama and how all the jihad attack has done is paint the target even bigger on those tied to the religion of pieces.
"You did not get the attention of our weak President," Knauff wrote. "He tweeted his support for your medieval holiday following your cowardly attack. You did not get the attention of our useless and corrupt Congress. They were too busy lining their pockets."
"When you attacked those four Marines, you got the attention of every one of our 186,800 active duty Marines, along with every Marine who ever served," he continued. "You just stirred up hate, discontent, and malice within a group of people who relish the idea of engaging the enemy."
Knauff, who manages Spartan Media, then wrote:
There is something you obviously don't yet know about Marines...
The brotherhood we share is stronger than the challenges we face, the weapons we master, or the enemies we destroy.
You will learn that soon though.
In pointing out the current Rules of Engagement per the Obama administration, which has gotten many of our military killed, Knauff says that isn't the way it will work when Islamists come to America.
"You see, we won't play by the rules you're accustomed to seeing," he wrote. "When you play in our backyard, we don't have to answer to any chain of command. We will not follow ridiculous ROEs crafted by a spineless bureaucrat to appease some goat herding tribal leader. And we won't be wearing uniforms so that you can easily ambush us. Nope. None of that shit."
"When you think you're walking into a target-rich environment, you're really walking into an ambush," he continued. "That pudgy, middle-aged guy wearing khakis in the mall, who unbeknownst to you, is a former 0311 and armed, will dump your sorry ass before you have a chance to scream 'allah snackbar.' And that soccer mom pushing a stroller, she's got a Glock and will happily leave you gasping in a pool of your own blood before she lets you hurt her children."
"We are here and we still have the training and experience to wage war, whether here or abroad," he added. "And wage war we will. Every one of us are willing to fight and die to protect our Marine Corps brothers and sisters, our families and friends, and our way of life."
"And we will win, because while you fight to destroy what you hate, we fight to protect what we love," he concluded. "Semper Fi!"
Indeed, I love when someone tells it like it is. There is no question that many of us have had it up to here (raises my hand way about my head) with Islamists who think they can engage in jihad without consequences.
Marine veteran Nick Powers has already put out the warning to the Islamic State: "Attack us and there will be no mercy." Knauff is just confirming that same heart and spirit, the spirit of the Marines... the spirit of America. DD-214'd from a different branch, but I'll be there as well.

Oh, they can bite pretty hard. Look at how the Marines were during WWII in the pacific and you can see what they are capable of when they aren't saddled with lawyers and whiny politicians. If we had a real president, you know, a human being with a spine that was willing to turn them loose, I suspect they'd be quite happy to demonstrate on ISIS how the US military really should work.

Anybody who knew anything about the Balkans knew that Bill Clinton's extra-legal intervention on behalf of the Bosnian Muslims against the Orthodox Christian Serbs was a terrible idea; the area's ancient, tripartite (the western Christian Croats are also part of the mix) religious divisions date back to the schism within Christianity and the invasion of large swaths of eastern and central Europe by Muslim Turks. The Turks were eventually thrown back and out of almost everywhere in Europe, with the exception of what became Albania and in Kosovo. To this day, Bulgarians, Romanians and Hungarians celebrate their deliverance from Islam -- and know exactly why it must be resisited, tooth and nail. Allowing the Serbs to crush the Muslims of Yugoslavia -- especially Muslims occupying one of Orthodox Christianity's holiest sites -- would have been merely the final touches on a long war against darkness and brutality. So, thanks, Bill Clinton, for leaving this dagger in the heart of Europe:
A key part of President Obama's legacy will be the fed's unprecedented collection of sensitive data on Americans by race. The government is prying into our most personal information at the most local levels, all for the purpose of "racial and economic justice."
Unbeknown to most Americans, Obama's racial bean counters are furiously mining data on their health, home loans, credit cards, places of work, neighborhoods, even how their kids are disciplined in school -- all to document "inequalities" between minorities and whites.
This Orwellian-style stockpile of statistics includes a vast and permanent network of discrimination databases, which Obama already is using to make "disparate impact" cases against: banks that don't make enough prime loans to minorities; schools that suspend too many blacks; cities that don't offer enough Section 8 and other low-income housing for minorities; and employers who turn down African-Americans for jobs due to criminal backgrounds.
Big Brother Barack wants the databases operational before he leaves office, and much of the data in them will be posted online.
So civil-rights attorneys and urban activist groups will be able to exploit them to show patterns of "racial disparities" and "segregation," even if no other evidence of discrimination exists.
Obama is presiding over the largest consolidation of personal data in US history. This has everything to do with Obama's promise to "spread the wealth". Data that will tell him who has wealth, their race, their associations, religion, anything he and his mafia can use to publicly demonize then cease other peoples property by any means necessary. Property that he will then give to those who will keep the left in power.
#4
I would love to see them finish this on the last day in office and have the next president dismantle it on his first day in office as an example of the bad policy racially devicive demagoguery that we could do without.
