Shaboobs mark first day of Ramadan with botched attack
The headline alone is worth the posting...
ADADO, Somalia -- As Somalis are observing the ninth month of the Islamic Lunar Calendar, Ramadan, coordinated terror attack by Al Shabaab gunmen on a building housing delegates Thursday ended in failure in central town, Garowe Online reports.

Militants in military fatigues tried to ram an explosive-laden car into the building, but the plot went wrong according to a spokesman for Somalia’s Ministry for National Security, Mohamed Yusuf.

Security forces manning an entrance to the residence, and were appearing to have received a tip-off shot three militants on the spot. The attackers were reportedly planning to shoot their way into the house of Adado conference delegates.

“No casualties have been resulted in except for the assailants. The security forces foiled, they were four people in number, one blew himself up in the car and the three other [attackers] were shot dead by the security forces,” the official told the Media.

Al Shabaab immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, saying they killed Ethiopian soldiers at a security checkpoint near Kafalo building. GO couldn’t reach independence sources in Adado for exact number of fatalities from the botched attack.

Al Shabaab is known for staging a string of deadly assaults in the holy month of Ramadan every year.
It's like it's part of their religion or something...
Residents in Mogadishu broke fast to volleys of gunfire and scramble for cover last year.

In an attempt at curbed rampages, Somalia government deployed hundreds of police officers into the streets of war-torn Mogadishu on the eve of dawn-to-dusk fasting month of Ramadan.

Al-Qaeda War against ISIS in East of Libya
[al-Alam] This week an al-Qaeda-linked militia in the eastern Libyan city of Derna has declared a holy war on the ISIS affiliate who control the majority of the coastal city, after the death of one of their big shots threatened to spark a violent conflict between the two groups.

In festivities between ISIS and the "Mujahideen Shura" Council of Derna on Wednesday, at least 20 fighters from both sides were killed, sources confirmed to Rooters.

The fighting came after a leader in an allied group, Majlis al-Shura, was killed by ISIS for refusing to pledge allegiance to the group's caliph His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi

Two bombings in Egypt's Sinai kill policeman, injure three
[AnNahar] A policeman was killed and three others injured in two kabooms at dawn on Wednesday in the restive Sinai Peninsula, Al-Ahram Arabic reported.

Unknown assailants remotely detonated a roadside kaboom targeting a passing armoured vehicle in the town of Al-Arish in North Sinai.

A police officer, Major Mohammed Salah, was killed and two recruits maimed in the kaboom.

Another bomb went off earlier nearby, injuring another policeman.

The blasts caused cracks to nearby houses and led to a fire in an oil store, eyewitnesses said.
An Nahar points out:

Boko Haram kill 40 in Diffa, southeast Niger
[AA.TR] At least 40 people were killed and several others injured Wednesday night when suspected Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
Death Eaters attacked Niger's southeast Diffa region, according to sources in the regional military alliance, the Multi National Joint Task Force.

"In yet another daring cross border attack on Wednesday, the bully boyz attacked two border villages in Diffa region," a Nigerian military officer serving in the alliance told Anadolu Agency.

"They used jacket wallahs in the attack, followed by sporadic gunshots," he said on condition of anonymity, as he had no authority to speak to the media.

A member of a local Nigerian vigilante group in Bosso, a Nigerian border town only a few kilometers away from the Diffa region, confirmed the attack.

"The attack appeared to be some sort of tit-for-tat because just yesterday the Chadian army bombed some Nigerian villages, obviously in retaliation for some suicide kabooms on its towns two days ago," Audu Alaram, a member of the local vigilante group, told Anadolu Agency by phone from Bosso.

"Yesterday night, the bully boyz led two bombers and struck in the Diffa region attack and killed close to 40 people, according to information from the military," he said.

Boko Haram had until recently restricted its violent campaign to Nigerian towns.

Following complaints by Nigeria that Death Eaters were hiding in neighboring countries from which they launched cross border raids, the Death Eaters soon faced mounting pressure from troops from neighboring armies who pushed them back.

This has apparently led to recent attacks on villages in Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
, Chad and Niger - all of which have recently joined forces with Nigeria to crush the group.

In video footage released early this year, Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau warned leaders of neighboring countries not to help Nigeria in the fight against the group, threatening attacks on their soil if they supported the Nigerian government.

Analysts suggest that Boko Haram's recent pledge of allegiance to Daesh, which saw the Nigerian group change its name to Islamic State

Mine Kills Saudi Officer on Yemen Border
[AnNahar] A landmine blast on the Saudi-Yemen

border has claimed the life of a senior Saudi officer, the coalition carrying out air strikes on rebels in Yemen said on Thursday.
But was it a Saudi mine or a Yemeni mine? Someone will care about the answer, though probably not the dead man.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah al-Balwi died Wednesday "as a result of the kaboom of a landmine in Twalig mountain" in the Saudi border district of Jazan, the Saudi-led coalition said.

The blast occurred during a "combing" operation, it said, the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

At least 39 people, civilians and troops, have now bit the dust in shelling and border skirmishes since March 26 when the coalition began bombing Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen, attempting to halt their expansion.

More than 2,600 people have died in Yemen itself, where rebels and pro-government forces have been fighting for months.

The Saudi officer died on the fourth day of stalled U.N.-brokered negotiations in Geneva between Yemen's warring sides.

Bahrain foils boomer terror plot
Dubai -- Bahrain said on Thursday it had seized explosives and bomb-making materials planned for use in Bahrain and neighbouring Saudi Arabia in what it said was an attempt to use its borders as a base for attacking targets in the region.

In a statement, police chief Major-General Tariq Al Hasan said the techniques used in the manufacture of the explosives bore “clear similarities” to methods used by what it called proxy groups of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC). Bahrain often correctly accuses Iran of seeking to subvert the Gulf Arab country.

Iran denies interfering in Bahrain, although it acknowledges it does support opposition groups seeking greater political and economic rights.
"Lies! All lies!"
Hasan said the seized items, including powerful explosive C4, commercial detonators, advanced circuitry, chemicals and mobile phones, “represent a significant escalation in attempts to smuggle explosives material into Bahrain”.

The June 6 seizure in the Dar Kulaib district was made possible by information arising from the capture in May of a vehicle containing similar explosives as it was being driven across the causeway that links Bahrain to Saudi Arabia, he said. Hasan added that the June 6 operation and previous such seizures “point to an emerging trend. The professionalism with which these seized materials are assembled and concealed is a clear indication of international support and sponsorship.”

“Of greater concern, however, is the fact that these sophisticated bomb-making materials were destined for Saudi Arabia, a sign that extremists are increasingly using Bahrain’s borders as a launch pad for terrorists seeking to carry out attacks elsewhere in the region.”

Blasts Claimed by Daesh Kill 31 At Shiite Sites in Yemen
[Tolo News] At least 31 people were killed Wednesday and dozens maimed in five simultaneous bombings claimed by the Daesh at Shiite mosques and offices in the Yemeni capital, medics and witnesses said.

Daesh, a Sunni Moslem radical group, said the attacks were in "Dire Revenge" against the Shiite Huthis, who have overrun Sanaa and much of the Sunni majority country and whom it considers to be heretics.

The attacks came as the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
struggled to push forward peace talks between Yemen's exiled government and the Iran-backed rebels in Geneva.

They also come almost three months after Daesh carried out multiple bombings against Shiite mosques, killing 142 people.

Two boom-mobiles targeted mosques, while a third hit the house of the head of the Houthis' politburo, Saleh al-Sammad, witnesses and security officials said.

The Daesh statement said the nearby politburo office was the target.

One of the boom-mobiles targeted the house of Huthi leader Taha al-Mutawakel and the adjacent Al-Hashush mosque, which was targeted in the March bombings.

The other boom-mobile hit the Al-Quba Al-Khadra mosque in the central Hayel district, which is frequented by Huthi supporters.

Bombs also went off at two other mosques -- Al-Kibssi and Al-Tayssir in Al-Ziraa district, with all the attacks timed to coincide with Moslem sunset prayers.

Witnesses said the bombs were planted near the entrances to the mosques, and went kaboom! as worshippers flocked in for the prayers, on the eve of the Moslem fasting month of Ramadan.

At the time of the March bombings, an Daesh statement described the attacks as "just the tip of the iceberg."

That carnage drew widespread condemnation, including from IS rival Al-Qaeda, whose affiliate in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
issued a statement saying it had nothing to do with the bombings.

officials in Geneva on Thursday, throwing shoes and insulting them as "criminals" and "dogs" who were "killing children" in Yemen.

Hamza Al-Houthi, head of the Houthi delegation to U.N.-sponsored peace talks in Geneva, stayed composed throughout the melee of several minutes that began when a woman in a headscarf went to the podium and threw a shoe at him, an insult in the Arab world.

"They are killing the children of south Yemen," a pro-government supporter shouted before a fistfight broke out between Houthis and government supporters. The latter were then escorted out.

Fourth alleged IS suspect arrested in New York area
[IsraelTimes] Fort Lee's Samuel Rahamin Topaz, 21, could face 15 years in prison for plans to assist terror group

A fourth US citizen has been tossed in the clink

in the greater New York area in less than a week on allegations of supporting the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. terror group, officials said Thursday.

Samuel Rahamin Topaz, 21, from Fort Lee, New Jersey, was charged with conspiracy to provide material support to the IS group, which has declared a "caliphate" based in Iraq and Syria.

He faces 15 years in prison if convicted and was remanded without bail after being arrested at home on Wednesday, prosecutors said.

Court papers allege he was in close contact with Munther Omar Saleh, a 20-year-old student from New York who was arrested last Saturday after trying to stab an FBI surveillance officer.
Ynet connects Munther Omar Saleh to Freed Mumuni here. We had the report of Mr. Mumuni's arrest yesterday here.
The FBI accused Saleh of trying to recruit Topaz, who was allegedly making plans to travel to join the IS group in the Middle East.

The pair allegedly met up at a Manhattan subway station a few blocks from the World Trade Center on May 31.

Prosecutors in New York have accused Saleh of planning to carry out a kaboom in the city.

Topaz told a friend that "they" promised him $7,000 a week and four wives, possibly in Iraq, and cited this as reason not to enroll at community college, court papers show.

He allegedly posted selfies on Facebook dressed in holy warrior-style head garb and wrote about his intention to go to Jordan, which prosecutors called a cover story for travel to IS-controlled territory.

Court papers released on Thursday listed two other co-conspirators, both of whom were dual US-Jordanian citizens.

The first, a 20-year-old, left the country on May 5, flying from New York to Jordan after browsing online holy warrior propaganda.

The second was an unidentified 23-year-old in New Jersey.
Presumably that would be our own Mr. Freed Mumuni, who was very much identified when he was arrested.
Topaz allegedly told a friend, when asked what he thought of IS that "it was not bad because they are protecting what they believe in" and that "news in the United States is corrupted."

After his arrest, prosecutors said he confessed to sympathizing with the IS cause. had watched the group's videos and discussed plans to reach it.

US intelligence officials warned in February that more than 20,000 volunteers from around the world, including more than 150 Americans, had gone to Syria to link up with holy warriors.

Boston Bombers' Taxi Driver Friend Jailed 2.5 Years
[AnNahar] A taxi driver friend of the Boston bombers was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison Thursday for obstructing the FBI investigation into the bloody 2013 attacks.

Khairullozhon Matanov, a legal immigrant from Kyrgyzstan, is the fourth friend of the Tsarnaev brothers to be incarcerated
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
for impeding Sherlocks in the days after the marathon attacks.

The April 15, 2013 bombings killed three people and maimed 264 others, in one of the deadliest attacks in the United States since the September 11 al-Qaeda attacks in New York.

Matanov lied to FBI agents about his friendship, contact and communication with Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev after the attacks and about his apparent beliefs about violence.

None of the four friends were accused of taking part in the attacks or of knowing about the bombings ahead of time.

Tamerlan was rubbed out by police on April 19, 2013, and Dzhokhar was sentenced to death by a jury in Boston last month.

Just 40 minutes after the bombings, Matanov drove the brothers to a restaurant where they discussed the attacks over a meal.

The next day he tried repeatedly to ring Dzhokhar but could not get through and visited Tamerlan at his home that evening.

After news outlets reported the FBI was looking for the brothers, Matanov deleted Internet searches for their photographs as well as files with violent content or calls to violence.

He had been living in the United States since 2010 working various jobs, and resided in Quincy, north of Boston.

Coalition blasts ISIS weapons convoy in Khazir
[Rudaw] ERBIL, Kurdistan Region -- A convoy of ISIS vehicles carrying heavy weapons was destroyed at the Khazir front by Arclight airstrikes from the US-led coalition, a Kurdish military source told Rudaw.

According to Maulood, the warplanes used pinpoint bombing to incinerate all the vehicles and drivers that were escorting the weapons.

"The bombing was carried out based on intelligence information Peshmerga forces provided for the US-led air force," he added.

One thing I've found odd is that I haven't heard of a single US casualty in this entire air campaign. An A-10 is a superb platform for ground attack, but it flies low and slow, and thus is subject to damage from ground fire. Obama doesn't want that.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran nuke talks impeded by disagreement on all main elements
[Rudaw] Iran and six powers are still apart on all main elements of a nuclear deal with less than two weeks to go to their June 30 target date and will likely have to extend their negotiations, two diplomats tell The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

Their comments enforce concerns that obstacles to a pact remain beyond the public debate on how far Iran must open its nuclear program to outside purview under any deal.

Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has for weeks rebuffed US demands that UN nuclear monitors have access to military sites and nuclear scientists as they monitor Tehran's commitments under a deal and probe allegations of past work on atomic arms.

Negotiators are concerned about a lack of headway on all issues. Russian chief delegate Sergey Ryabkov said Friday the "the rate of progress ... is progressively slowing down."

Negotiators have been meeting five days a week in Vienna over the past few weeks. The two diplomats are familiar with the progress of the talks and spoke shortly before a planned five-day round reconvened Wednesday. They demanded anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the confidential negotiations.

Ways of implementing specific parts of the deal are supposed to be contained in four or five annexes to the main text of an agreement.

The diplomats described the draft of a main document as a patchwork of text and dozens of blank spaces because of stubborn disagreement on up to 10 elements crucial to any deal. Those details are to be included in four or five annexes, which remain incomplete.

Both sides remain publicly committed to June 30. Still, the diplomats said all nations at the table recognize that a delay up to July 9 is not a deal-breaker.

If US Congress receives a deal by July 9, it has 30 days to review it before US President Barack Obama
If I had a son he'd look like Trayvon...
could suspend congressional sanctions. Postponement beyond that would double the congressional review period to 60 days, giving both Iranian and US opponents more time to work on undermining an agreement.

Any deal would cap nearly a decade of international efforts to restrict Iranian nuclear programs that could be turned toward making weapons.

Tehran denies any interest in--or work on--atomic arms, but wants negotiations with the United States, Russia, China, Britannia, La Belle France and Germany to conclude with an end to sanctions imposed over its nuclear program.

The talks focus on ways to implement commitments by both sides reached in a preliminary deal in April. Iran agreed then to slashing the size of its uranium enrichment program for at least 10 years, as well as re-engineering a nearly built reactor to minimize its output or plutonium--like enriched uranium a potential pathway to nuclear weapons.

It also has agreed to give experts of the UN's ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency unprecedented monitoring authority to ensure that Tehran is hewing to its commitments, as well as more leverage in following up on the allegations of past nuclear weapons work.

Hezbollah Shells Rain Down on ISIS in Northeast Lebanon
[al-Alam] Al-Manar TV station said party fighters shelled ISIS positions on the outskirts of Ras Baalbek in an area it identified as Shanshara.

Hezbollah has been targeting ISIS positions on Ras Baalbek's outskirts for at least three consecutive days.

The party has intensified its attacks on ISIS east of Ras Baalbek after it repelled a krazed killer attack last week, which sparked a battle that killed 50 ISIS krazed killers. It was the most serious border confrontation between the two sides since early last month.

On Tuesday, Al-Manar said that ISIS's "emir" for the Qalamoun region Abu Balqis al-Baghdadi was killed in shelling on the eastern outskirts of Leb's Arsal, about 7 kilometers south of Ras Baalbek, in the area of Wadi Hmayed.

Hezbollah and the Syrian army have been battling ISIS and Nusra Front fighters in the Qalamoun region along Leb's eastern border with Syria since early last month.

The allied forces have captured about two-thirds of the rugged border region from the forces of Evil since launching the offensive on May 4. Militants are now mostly holed up in northern Qalamoun, on the eastern outskirts of Arsal and Ras Baalbek.

Hezbollah chief Seyyed Hasan Nasrallah vowed last week to oust ISIS from northeastern Leb.

Israel Intervened in Syria by Declaring Buffer Zone in Syria Golan Heights
[al-Alam] Monitors from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the village of Khadr was now surrounded by terrorists, who had taken a hilltop immediately to the north.

Druze leaders in Israel and the Golan Heights warned that they might storm the frontier to save their relatives, fearing a sectarian massacre.

Netanyahu said he had given "instructions to do what is necessary" to help Syria's Druze. Israel also warned Syrian "terrorist" groups operating in southern Syria not to attack and to stay away from Khadr.

Local media reports said the Israelis was considering establishing a buffer zone on the Syrian side of the border for refugees - a move that would be an unprecedented step given decades in which the frontier has been a "frozen zone".

The crisis over the Druze intensified on Tuesday night, as fighting between Jabhat al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
- al-Qaeda's Syria affiliate - Syrian rebels and the Syrian army intensified in southern Syria.

Jabhat al-Nusra have insisted they are not intent on killing Druze, a sect that hardline "jihadists"(terrorists) consider to be heretical or apostate from true Islam. They even killed 20 Druze in a village in northern Syria in a dispute over property.

On Tuesday, the Israeli Forces temporarily declared an area in the northern Golan Heights a closed military zone.

The move was done "in order to prevent gatherings near the border, which would interfere with IDF---Israeli forces--- activities, and was not related to the fighting in Syria", an IDF front man said in a statement to The Telegraph.

#2  If "certain people" got out of the way, I think Israel would end up owning the entire Muddled East in a few years -- or at least half of Lebanon, a huge chunk of Syria, and the Gaza and Sinai. This time, they need to just go ahead and annex the territory, kick out the Ayrabs, and build a new and prosperous nation where there hasn't been one since the Phonecians.

#4  Sorry, #2, but IMO Israel may have the Nukes + IDF, but does NOT yet have either the Population Demograhy nor the Economy, + won't for a long time to come.

Israel will still find itself at a serious disadvantage or outnumbered even iff many US-World Jews move to Israel en masse, + wid no sign of any Pro-Israel andor Non-Aligned = ?Moderate" Muslims showing signs of interest in conversion to Judaism - TAKEN COLLECTIVELY, IT MEANS ISRAEL HAS TO LOOK AT OTHER VIABLE OR REALISTIC OPTIONS TO SURVIVE AS THE ONLY PRO-DEMOCRACY, PRO-WESTERN, JUDAIC/HEBRAIC STATE IN THE MUSLIM ME.

IMO the best thing the US-West can do at the moment is allow Israel to formally join NATO + EU, set up US GMD-TMD there + KSA [Jordan?], + get NATO-EU Citizens including Russians to invest + move there. IFF A DE FACTO PRO-PEACE PALEO SOVEREIGN STATE EVER COMES INTO BEING, ISRAEL IS GONNA NEED ALL THE WESTERN HELP IT CAN GET TO SUPPORT THE NEW POLITY.

33 Dead as Syria Army, Rebels Trade Fire around Damascus
[AnNahar] least 33 people were killed in the Damascus region as the army bombarded a rebel-held town and the rebels fired rockets into the capital, a monitoring group said Wednesday.

At least 24 people, including five children, were killed by government air strikes and rocket fire on Douma, a rebel-held suburb some 10 kilometers (six miles) northeast of the center of Damascus, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

An AFP photographer saw maimed children being brought into a makeshift medical center in the town after the Tuesday afternoon bombardment.

A man tried to comfort a weeping boy lying on a stretcher with gauze on his head, while nearby a small girl cried as she waited for treatment, her face spattered with blood.

Later, the rebels fired rockets into the heart of the capital, striking Arnus Garden, a popular evening retreat.

A witness told AFP that two rockets struck the garden between 10:30 pm (1930 GMT) and 11:00 pm, and that he saw dead and maimed people.

The Observatory said nine people were killed. State media said they included five women.

"They gave us a present for Ramadan," a resident said sarcastically, referring to the Moslem fasting month that begins on Thursday.

In northern Syria, the Observatory said four children were among seven civilians killed in renewed rebel rocket fire on government-held areas of second city Aleppo on Tuesday.

The fire came despite U.N. condemnation of a massive rebel barrage on Monday that killed at least 36 civilians, 14 of them children.

Control of Aleppo is divided between rebels in the east and forces loyal to Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
