you find out in the very last line that the rapist's de-facto partner, who knew and participated in the repeated rape, beating and torture of this Dutch backpacker was let off on a good behaviour bond - and more shockingly with NO CONVICTION RECORDED.

Sounds like it began as a drug-fuel ménage à trois which started consensually with an overlay of S & M. Repeated? Could she or couldn't she walk away from this at any time? At what point did it cease to be consenual?

You have one extreme amply demonstrated in the Muslim world which punishes women for nothing and the other extreme in the Anglo Western world that excuses women for acts that would and do get men extended incarcerations. (See Instapundit series - Teach Women Not to Rape).
[Tolo News] The Interior Minister Noor-ul-Haq Ulumi has called on the judicial institutions to give harsh punishment to the killers of Farkhunda in order that it should be a lesson to others.
Briefing the members of internal security commission of the Parliament on Sunday where the Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs Faiz Mohammad Osmani was also present to report on Farkhunda's killing, the interior minister called the killers "ignorant."
The 27-year-old woman, Farkhunda, was killed and burnt by a mob last week in Kabul over alleged burning of Holy Koran, an accusation strongly rejected by Ulumi as baseless.
Ulumi told the politicians that 28 civilians and 17 police were held in this connection, demanding the judicial institutions for fair investigation of the cases.
"The case should be addressed in a way that it should be a lesson for others," he insisted.
Despite denouncements inside and outside the country, still a number of public figures and MPs try to justify Farkhunda's killing.
"Now that Farkhunda is martyred, why should we sacrifice 30 to 40 more lives?" MP from eastern Laghman Mohammad Alam Qarar said.
Another politician from western Herat ...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns... , Keramuddin Reza Zada, criticized Farkhunda for going to the Mullah to stop them from writing Tawiz, a folded piece of paper containing the verses of Koran worn by the people with a belief that it will remove any evil or affliction put on them through black magic.
"Why did Farkhunda go to Tawiz writers to stop them from their work? This was not Farkhunda's Job," Reza Zada criticized.
The brutal killing of Farkhunda was widely condemned across the globe, sparking protests in different parts of Afghanistan and the world.
The Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah ... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun... in an exclusive interview with TOLOnews also strongly condemned Farkhunda's killing and called it an "overt crime."
He assured that the government would seriously follow the case and would bring the perpetrators to justice.

They are sinking under Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) aka affirmative action, reverse apartheid, horrendous crime and unemployment. Political activist Thuli Madonsela recently trek'd to London with her pleas for the South African diaspora to 'return home'. The comments in the Iol artikel were quite revealing. Thanks to the communist African National Congress (ANC), the entire country has degenerated into a 'Detroit' on the Orange River. An invasion of the Cape Province is now ongoing. Tourism is off. The Cape will soon be gone as well.
The west owes you poo flingers absolutely nothing.

Frankly, I don't see that the problem is.
Just train locals in medicine---surely, nobody but a republican racist will claim that Africans are less able to learn and practice medicine than Ice People.
Better yet, since all cultures are equal, I'm sure native medicine will be (at least) as effective as the eurocentric one.

Seems to me the latest brain drain occured when Zimbabwae was going all crazy on the white farmers and the government of South Africa sat quiet and waited to see how things would turn out.
Anyone with half a brain should have left at that point.

If they had half a brain they'd be trying to get Elon Musk to invest and perhaps build a base there to launch things into orbit. South Africa is a lot closer to the equator, and could promise easier environmental restrictions.
If they had half a brain they'd designate a city to be a free port with the same rules and laws as Hong Kong had in the 90s (or as close as possible) and try to make their own Singapore-style shpping hub.
If they had half a brain they'd build (or get help) a massive naval base and open it up to western powers who want to patrol against Somali pirates and protect shipping that probably wants to avoid Yemen and Suez these days.
But as I said everyone with half a brain or more left.
Vladimir Putin has an army of professional trolls running thousand of fake Twitter and Facebook accounts to flood social media with pro-Russia propaganda. Hundreds of workers are paid ÂŁ500 a month to work exhausting 12-hour shifts bombarding the internet with comments placing Putin in a more favourable light. The trolls work under strict condition which see them banned from talking and even forging friendships with one another. One former worker at the Internet Research Centre - dubbed the Troll Factory - has lifted the lid on how employees must write more than 130 online posts a shift or face the sack. Marat Burkhard explained how the operation, based in modern building in St Petersburg, is opened 24 hours a day and employees often work in teams of three.
'One of us would be the 'villain,' the person who disagrees with the forum and criticizes the authorities, in order to bring a feeling of authenticity to what we're doing, he told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. 'The other two enter into a debate with him -- "No, you're not right; everything here is totally correct."
'We create the illusion of actual activity on these forums.'
Mr Burkhard revealed how he and his fellow trolls got to work after a story broke about US President Barack Obama spitting his chewing gum out in India.
''You need to write 135 comments about this, and don't be shy about how you express yourself,'
In which French voters respond sensibly to the very real threats to their economy and their security experienced under the rule of Hollande's Socialists. It has been commented recently that both French Jews and French homosexuals have turned in increasing numbers to Marine Le Pen's further rightwing Front National, where they trust action against rampaging jihadis will be taken, should the party gain more power. In fact, Ms Le Pen's #2 is as far out of the closet as it is possible to be.
[Iran Press TV] La Belle France's conservative Union pour un Mouvement Populaire (UMP) and its centrist allies have won the final round of the country's local elections, an exit poll shows.
The UMP, led by former French president Nicolas Sarkozy ...23rd President of the French Republic. Sarkozy is married to singer-songwriter Carla Bruni, who has a really nice birthday suit... , has possibly secured 66 to 70 of the 98 local councils, compared to 41 previously held by the party, according to the BFMTV news channel survey by pollsters CSA released on Sunday.
French President Francois Hollande ...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist... 's Socialist Party appears to have won up to 35 departments, losing half of the 61 councils it held before the elections, the exit poll suggested.
It also found that the far-right National Front, led by Marine Le Pan, could win up to two councils.
Voters went to polls in Sunday's elections to choose 4,108 local councilors for 98 out of La Belle France's 101 departments.
The far-right Front National (FN) won zero councils, in part due to tactical voting but leader Marine Le Pen still hailed a "magnificent success" as the party won several council seats for the first time, establishing roots around the country.
"It's the base for tomorrow's great victories," said Le Pen, referring to more regional elections in December and the presidential vote in 2017.

Like democracy, for Recep Tayyip Erdogan friendship and esteem are trains he rode until he got to his station.
[AnNahar] Turkish authorities detained two former coppers following their extradition from Romania on suspicion of bugging President Recep Tayyip Erdogan ... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him... , state media said Sunday.
Sedat Zavar, a former police chief, and Ilker Usta, were detained at Istanbul airport late Saturday after their arrival on a flight from Bucharest, the Anatolia news agency reported.
They face up to 36 years in jail on charges of "forming a crime syndicate", "violating privacy" and "illegally obtaining personal information," Anatolia said.
They are expected to appear in court on May 4.
The detentions are a part of an intensifying crackdown against followers of U.S.-based preacher Fethullah Gulen, accused by Erdogan of setting up a "parallel state" seeking to oust him from power and concocting a corruption scandal that rocked the government in late 2013.
The authorities accuse police of bugging Erdogan and other brass hats at the behest of Gulen, whose extradition is being sought by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... .
Since becoming president in August 2014, Erdogan has intensified his offensive against Gulen followers and the authorities have conducted raids against dozens of coppers accused in the spying case.

Hey.. SpaceX used German 3D metal printers to print rocket engines out of metal. These guys printing rifles out of plastic need to change their 3D printers to ones that do tougher materials.

I had a college roommate who had worked with the Harley Davidson Racing Team from '95- 99 and they were using 3D printers back then.
3D printers are getting a lot of press now days, but have been around for at least two decades. Thought I'd put this out there for Rantburg consumption, as the tech seems new but is actually fairly matured. Granted affordable home 3D printers are fairly new to the show.

[DAWN] Robbers not only looted a house in the suburbs of Islamabad but also kidnapped a minor on Saturday.
Police said the robbers entered the house of a retired officer of the OGDCL at D-17. They held the family hostage and looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables. While escaping, they took away a two-year-old boy.
When contacted, the police said the motive behind the abduction was yet to be established. Efforts were underway to recover the boy.
A man who lives in the neighbourhood of the robbery victims told Dawn that the incident had shocked everyone in the area. He said the house was an easy target as it was located in an isolated area. Retired army officers and babus bureaucrats also reside there, he added.
Meanwhile, ...back at the wrecked scow, Agent 49 felt gingerly for his head. It was still there. He had been hoping differently... robbers and auto-thieves struck in different areas and made off with cash, valuables and vehicles, police said.
Two persons intercepted a couple in Margalla Town and asked for a search saying they were officials of a law enforcement agency. They snatched the woman's purse containing 10,000 dirhams and valuables.

Of course he will continue begging. Kerry must win the Nobel Prize and a shot at the Oval Office whilst the Champ has his eyes on the U.N. Secretary General position. It's always the next assignment with these people.
[JP] With just two days to go before a "framework" agreement must be reached between the P5+1 countries and Iran regarding the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, the Iranians suddenly issued a surprise punch to the solar plexus of the other parties.
Despite an already agreed upon commitment, Iran will not send out of the country the enriched uranium it has spent years and billions of dollars to create.
Iran had previously agreed to send its stockpile elsewhere -- Russia was the agreed-upon destination -- thereby preventing Iran from using the material it had already produced to create nuclear weapons.
This latest revelation came during the current round of talks between Iran and six major world powers -- Britain, France, China, Russia, the United States and Germany -- taking place at the Beau Rivage Palace Hotel in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The negotiators are working to hammer out a provisional framework deal by Tuesday night, which will be followed by a final agreement this summer.
But on Sunday, March 29, Iran's deputy foreign minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi told the Iranian media: "There is no question of sending the stocks abroad," Agence France-Presse reported.
Given Iran's mercurial posturing throughout the negotiations and its latest brazen reneging on a critical aspect of the deal, critics of the U.S. administration's diplomatic efforts, including Republicans in Congress as well as several sunni Arab nations in the Middle East and also Israel, are sure to become even more vociferously opposed to the signing of any deal.
If Iran is permitted to retain its already enriched uranium, it becomes much harder to state with confidence that it is not intending to continue its march towards nuclear weaponization.
Over the weekend, U.S. Speaker of the House John Boehner told CNN that he is even less confident about Iran's willingness to abide by any deal it reaches pertaining to its nuclear program.
"We have got a regime that's never quite kept their word about anything," he said. "I just don't understand why we would sign an agreement with a group of people who, in my opinion, have no intention of keeping their word."
For its part, Iran is upping its own demands from the rest of the world.
Iran demands that all sanctions and UN resolutions imposing crippling restrictions against Tehran be scrapped as part of its nuclear deal with major world powers, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said.
"It is time for P5+1 to make tough decisions and to lift all sanctions," Araqchi told journalists at the Lausanne talks.
"All six UN resolutions should be lifted," he added.

Obama has had his great domestic signature legislation, ObamaCare (sarc on) Now, he is going for his great signature work in foreign affairs, nuclear armament of Iran and an arms race in the M.E. He will grovel, bow and beg his way to any deal no matter what with the MMs. I recall some bygone phrase about defending the Constitution against enemies both foreign and domestic.

the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
