[Hurriyet Daily News] Concerning yet another woman's murder in Turkey, the suspect in Istanbul has pleaded not guilty "Wudn't me." by accusing a "genie" of killing his girlfriend.
The body of 35-year-old Fatma Serban was found in a residence in Istanbul's Ümraniye neighborhood in September 2014. Her boyfriend, 33-year-old Köksal Sahin, was detained in the western province of Izmir and confessed to the murder in his initial testimony.
On the first day of his trial at the 2nd Anadolu Heavy Penal Court, however, Sahin pleaded not guilty, according to Dogan News Agency. "As far as I understood, a genie attacked her," Sahin told the court, claiming Serban slit her own throat and stabbed herself in the stomach during their quarrel.
Sahin detailed his supernatural explanation by adding that Serban had an episode of mania after she saw the Islamic amulet on his neck and was "saying something in Arabic" during the episode.
He further claimed that he then found himself in an Izmir hostel hundreds of kilometers away from the scene of the crime, because he was "also attacked by the genie."
The trial is ongoing, as prosecutors demand the court to send Sahin to jail for life with an aggravated sentence for murder, as well as an additional 8.5-18 years for stealing Serban's valuable items after the murder.

[Dhaka Tribune] A giant black hole, as massive as 12 billion suns, has been found by astronomers and seems to be growing far too fast. That's what happened to that airplane, you know...
The black hole is not the biggest that is known, but is far bigger than scientist would expect to be at its age. It got to its huge size 875 million years after the big bang -- which scientists would not expect to happen, since black holes grow as they age and eat other gas and stars that surround them.
Scientists can only see it at that age -- 12.8 billion years ago, and 6% of the age of the current universe -- because it is so far away.

Now there's a headline you don't see every day.
[TIMESOFINDIA.INDIATIMES] The northern Dutch town of Purmerend has advised residents to arm themselves with an umbrella when going out at night after a mysterious spate of bloody rogue owl attacks.
Over the last three weeks, the European eagle owl has silently swooped on dozens of residents of the usually peaceful town, with many victims requiring hospital treatment. The latest aerial assault on Tuesday evening saw two members of a local athletics club attacked, with one runner requiring stitches for six head wounds caused by the nocturnal bird of prey's talons. The club has cancelled all training until further notice. Likely a Euro Eagle-Owl as pictured.

Bought this house because of the plenitude of owls of all flavors. My favorite is the long term pair of Great Horned Owls that nests in the 2nd oak. When a chick is in the nest with mom you hear a lot of early morning talk between the one in the nest with the chick and the one out hunting. Something like "get your feathery ass back here with food nao!" Later as the chicks/chick age both parents have to forage to keep up with the caloric needs of the baby. At this point, usually at pre-dawn I can walk under the oak and get a baritone baby owl Cheeeerp!
[Dhaka Tribune] Unidentified miscreants hacked blogger and writer Avijit Roy to death and seriously injured his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonna at the TSC roundabout on Dhaka University campus last night.
The physical condition of Bonna, who was undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, was said to be stable but critical when this report was being filed early today. Avijit’s body was kept at the DMCH morgue late last night.

[CNN] An Argentine judge has dismissed a criminal complaint accusing President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner and other top leaders of covering up Iran's involvement in a 1994 terrorist bombing in Buenos Aires.
The prosecutor who filed the case, Alberto Nisman, was found dead days after making the accusations. His death sparked outrage and conspiracy theories aplenty.
Judge Daniel Rafecas on Thursday ruled that Nisman's case did not meet the minimum threshold to initiate a criminal investigation.

[ARABNEWS] Former Russian tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky said on Thursday Vladimir Putin ...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead... was a "naked king" presiding over an economy that will weaken further, eventually provoking a battle between rival clans in Moscow.
"Putin with bare chest isn't a mighty leader: He is a naked king," Khodorkovsky, once Russia's richest man who was locked away Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un! in 2003 after falling foul of Putin only to be released in 2013, told an audience in London.
Khodorkovsky, who once controlled Russia's biggest oil company, YUKOS, said the Russian economy would weaken further and that eventually its weakness would provoke a battle between the powerful clans which dominate Russia.
In a message which is likely to anger the 62-year-old Kremlin chief, the former tycoon also called on the West to build ties with opposition groups in expectation of an end to the Putin era.
"Tomorrow when the regime changes you will have to build a relationship and you will have very little time," Khodorkovsky, 51, told an event organized by Chatham House policy thinktank.

Khodorkovsky should check his food for polonium and other things... Putins critics tend to turn up dead with a fair amount of regularity.

And Hitler had destroyed Germany economically by 1943. There were, however, a lot of dead bodies between then and his exit.

As we finish our coffees, I ask Khodorkovsky if he fears for his own safety; he is leaving alone, with no bodyguards in sight. “I understand that decisions about me are taken by only one man. This, of course, provides me with a certain level of protection,” he says.
“If I find out that he’s given the command, I will try to protect myself in some way. But even though I know Putin has become more emotional these days, I hope he won’t go that far.”
[CAPITALNEWYORK] Daily News owner Mort Zuckerman is exploring a sale of the tabloid and has retained the firm Lazard to assist in the process.
In a Thursday email to staff, Zuckerman said he hadn't been considering an imminent sale of the paper, which he acquired in 1993, but that his thinking changed after receiving an approach several weeks ago.
"I have not come to this decision easily," Zuckerman wrote. "But I believe the immense hard work in turning the business around in an extremely challenging period for the industry, has put the Daily News in as strong a position than it has ever been, particularly online."
The News, as with many print publications, has suffered steep print circulation and advertising declines in recent years. As a result, there have been repeated downsizings and layoffs. Just a few weeks ago, the News announced that it would be shuttering its bureaus in the outer boroughs, a move that will save them money on real estate.

[Hurriyet Daily News] Weeks after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him... "16 Turkish warriors" hit international headlines, several candidates have launched Ottoman-themed campaigns to be nominated for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Good idea. We've all missed The Sick Man of Europe.
For his campaign under the motto "All Together, New Turkey," Osman Yavuz, an AKP electoral candidate nominee in the Central Anatolian province of Konya, wore a börk, a piece headgear worn by Seljuk warriors and the first Ottoman sultans in the 14th century. The börk has recently become familiar to the Turkish public again, thanks to a TV drama about the era. The New Turkey's stuck in the fifteenth century?
After going viral on social media on Feb. 25, with some users mocking and others supporting him, Yavuz told daily Hurriyet that Konya was once the capital of the Anatolian Seljuk Empire. "I am an advertiser," he said, vowing to "serve his city efficiently if elected." I'd say that's reason enough to vote against him.
Other political hopefuls also managed to draw attention to their candidacy with their attire. Ersin Karababa, who nominated himself as an AKP candidate from the northern province of Tokat, appeared on posters dressed as a sultan from the 1600s or the 1700s. "Vote for Me for Sultan!"
The AKP's self-nominated Ankara candidate Cihangir Tahir, meanwhile, went even further by adding an Ottoman-style moustache to his costume. I don't think he went so far as to grow it.
His poster also presented him photoshopped next to a picture of President Erdogan and his wife Emine Erdogan, who he dubbed "my spiritual father" and "my spiritual mother."
Many social media users mocking the AKP's latest sartorial trend responded sarcastically, with mock campaign materials for fake candidates, such as one claiming his place "in the race to win public tenders" wearing an Ottoman fez. "The first time
Ever I saw your fez..."

Potential Republican presidential candidate Scott Walker told grassroots conservatives on Thursday that his battle with labor unions as Wisconsin's governor had given him the mettle needed to take on militant groups like Islamic State. Bullying union thugs and murderous religious ideologues, I can easily follow his logic.

Not even quite, BillEdLB. The protesters were noisy (I heard them indoors a block away), but that's the American tradition. They didn't cut any Christian throats or smash statues. I didn't hear any death threats.
Walker has done some good work, but he has also made some dumb moves. This statement, assuming it was reported accurately, is stupid.

[Ynet] Another batch of leaks by al-Jazeera and the Guardian cites report that Israel tried to cause drought in Egypt, following previous claims about Mossad machinations. Three week growth of Kosher Kudzu on river bridge.
Of course it's kosher! Note that it eats neither meat nor carrion, though it will not object if the soil is fertilized by the decaying carcasses of critters caught in the undergrowth, and thus is of the category of plants that are kosher. Venus fly traps, on the other hand...
A paper on Mossad reportedly drafted by the South African State Security Agency (SSA) claims that Israel for decades worked to artificially create a drought in Egypt, by draining the River Nile with a water-absorbing plant.
The report comes as Al-Jazeera and the Guardian continued Wednesday to release purported spy cables, which again raised startling claims about Israeli intelligence.
"We were just testing to confirm the theoretical upper limit of gulliblity, Captain Ari, really! David has to go back to write his thesis, and this seemed a perfect test case."
"Upper limits of credibility"...? The presidential races of 2008 and 2012 dispelled the notion of upper limits.
"Towards this end Israel's Ministry of Science and Technology conducted extensive experiments, and eventually created a type of plant that flourishes on the surface or the banks of the Nile and that absorbs such large quantities of water as to significantly reduce the volume of water that reaches Egypt," the Guardian quoted. The newspaper noted that the allegation could be false and South Africa "guilty of naivety", but if true, "then Mossad is guilty of reprehensible tactics".
Or of discovering an inexpensive way to drain malaria swamps throughout the world, incidentally providing the locals with a source of clean drinking water... once Mossad's scientists figure out how to get the water out.

[Breitbart] Dr. Christina Greer, a professor of Political Science at Fordham University said that the US is " a patriarchal, white supremacist country" on Thursday's "Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore" on Comedy Central. Everyone knows tribal headman, Supreme Ruler cultures, with their Esu stones, talismans, amulets, black rings, magic recipes, muti, and incantations are far, far superior. Unless of course you suffer from PWA (Abinism), then you become a food source.
In a discussion on black women being called "bossy" Greer remarked "the reason why bossy strikes a nerve with me, because as someone who has to advocate for herself constantly, right, in a patriarchal, white supremacist country, right? Slash, society, that's one. And two, bossy is one of these words where if you're educated, and you're black and you're articulate, and it's one of those words that -- it's a backhanded -- articulate's a backhanded compliment." The irony is, her skill set would lead to certain starvation in an all black culture. There would be no 'host' to feed upon, no one to bugger !

Black majority rule in South Africa, the darling of the Left. White majority rule in America, the core of hatred of the Left (unless you're a white male of the Inner Party, then its OK).

How she's dodged a high-level Obama administration appointment is an absolute total mystery.

Utter nonsense. Bossiness is the combination of a need to organize people to accomplish a goal (leadership) with poor social skills. Trailing daughter #2 was born that way, so from the time she was eleven we worked on how to say things so as not to annoy people so seriously they would refuse her suggestions as a matter of principle. It took some serious work on her part, but a decade later she has a nice list of accomplishments for her age. If she could learn, so can black women.

White Supremacist country with a black president, black attorney general, blacks as mayors of most fo the inner cities. A black woman (Oprah) hosted the number one talk show by a long shot before she went to her cable channel. A black man was the number one box office star (Will Smith) until he started shoving his children into movies.
Yeah, when will this country ever take the hob-nail boot off of the black man's neck?
