Morocco Arrests 3 Seeking to Join Islamic State in Libya
[NYTIMES] Morocco has announced the arrest of three men suspected of seeking to join the krazed killer Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group's Libyan branch.

The statement Thursday by the Interior Ministry said the men were enjugged
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
in the coastal city of Casablanca and Oujda, which is on the Algerian border. All three came from the town of Sidi Bennour.

The statement described Libya as a "magnet" for snuffies in the region. A number of krazed killer groups in Libya have recently pledged allegiance to the Syria-based Islamic State group and are battling local militias.

More than a thousand Moroccans have left to join krazed killer groups, usually fighting in Syria.

Dawn launches airstrikes on Zintan
[Libya Herald] Libya Dawn has launched two air strikes against Zintan today.

The first, at around noon, hit the edge of the town's runway. The second, some four hours, later struck at the town centre. The first raid reportedly damaged the edge of the runway. Zintan officials said that it could easily be repaired.

In the second attack, at least one bomb hit the centre of the town. The authorities there claimed that there had been no casualties.

A Zintani official, Omar Abdel-Salam told the Libya Herald said that the strike came when a flight from Zintan was about to take off for Labraq and Tobruk. He said that the damage had been minor but that the attack has caused panic among travellers in the terminal. The flight, on which there had been Egyptian nationals seeking to quit Libya, had been cancelled.

The second strike targeted the centre of Zintan. However officials insisted there had been no casualties. First reports were that the warplane involved in the attacks was a Mig 23. However sources later told this newspaper that the aircraft had been a SIAI Marchetti.

GNC gives Egyptians 48 hours to get out --€ 'for their own safety'
[Libya Herald] While Egypt plans an evacuation of its citizens in Libya after the killing of 21 Egyptian Christians by IS, confusingly different reports are circulating on social media and in Egyptian news outlets regarding other Egyptians who have been gone missing in Libya.

Reports yesterday of 35 Egyptians who went missing near Sirte have been difficult to verify. Egyptian media reported that a resident of the Egyptian village of Beni Suef received a phone call from a contact in Libya saying that 35 Egyptian construction workers were kidnapped Tuesday morning. There is, however, no official confirmation of this.

Meanwhile, reports have circulated over the weekend that a number of Egyptian fishermen were detained in Libya. While some officials from Libya Dawn have denied that any fishermen were detained, a Misrata Council member was quoted today by Egyptian media announcing the release of 114 Egyptians held in Libya. That number, he said, included 14 fishermen picked up for fishing in Libyan waters without permission.

The Shura Council of Derna Mujahideen promised that Egyptian labourers in Derna will be safe and treated fairly, while the media office for the General National Congress released a statement telling all Egyptians currently in Libya to leave in the next 48 hours "for their own safety".

Egyptian Aviation authorities are putting together a plan to evacuate Egyptians via bus to Tunisia and from there via plane to Egypt, using four Tunisian airports, citing deteriorating conditions at Libya airports as a reason for routing through Tunisia.

Egypt closes airspace to Libyan planes, forces flight back to Mitiga airport
[Libya Herald] Egypt closed its airspace yesterday to Libyan flights, preventing Libyan planes from flying to two of their busiest destinations, Istanbul and Amman, Jordan.

The decision to prevent Libyan planes entering Egyptian airspace was taken unilaterally and was not previously announced.

The first that the Libyan authorities knew of the decision was when yesterday morning a Libyan Airlines flight from Tripoli's Mitiga airport headed to Istanbul was forced to return about an hour into its flight.

The Egyptians airspace closure was connected to their military air raids on alleged IS targets within Libya.

However, today, a flight did take off from Mitiga to Alexandria transiting through Al-Beida's Labrak airport. It has also returned taking the same route.

Today, Afriquiyah has announced that its flights will resume tomorrow to Istanbul, but they will be transiting via Al- Beida's Labrak airport

Flights to Casablanca, however, are still suspended by a decision taken by the Moroccan authorities.

It will be recalled that Libyan registered flights are banned from entering EU airspace and are unable to fly over Cyprus or Greece en route to Istanbul, and therefore need to pass through Egyptian airspace.

Nigerian Military Claims Success, Civilians Killed in Air Strike
[AnNahar] Nigeria on Wednesday claimed to have killed more than 300 Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
bully boyz in a counter-offensive, as Chad pushed into rebel-held areas but an air strike left at least 20 civilians dead.

Boko Haram meanwhile vowed to make voting impossible in Nigeria's upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections after a brace of deadly suicide kabooms in the country's violence-wracked northeast.

Operations to end the deadly insurgency were cited as the reason to delay polling by six weeks to March 28 but the elections chief ruled out further postponement as "unconstitutional".

The military's claim of "massive" Boko Haram casualties came as it said it had retaken the garrison town of Monguno in Borno state that had been captured on January 25 and 10 other communities.

There was no independent verification of the claims, which follow similar assertions about high numbers of krazed killer deaths by Niger, Chad and Cameroon

involved in the regional fight-back.

Civilian vigilantes in Monguno, from which a krazed killer strike on the state capital Maiduguri was expected to be launched, confirmed the recapture but said only that there were heavy casualties.

The recapture, and the purported destruction of a vast cache of arms, equipment and ammunition, adds to a list of claimed military victories in recent weeks.

The Chadian military, which recently regained control of the Nigerian town of Gamboru on the border with Cameroon, on Tuesday evening said they had pushed further into Borno.

Two Chadian soldiers and several Boko Haram fighters were killed in violent festivities around Dikwa, some 50 kilometers (31 miles) southwest of Gamboru, on Tuesday afternoon.

A krazed killer camp, which is near the group's stronghold in the Sambisa Forest, was overrun, Chadian military sources said.

Chad's presence well inside Nigerian territory is a first and may indicate a strategy to push on further to rebel-controlled areas to assist Nigeria's military, who have failed to end the violence.

There was a set-back for the regional force, however, as local officials and humanitarian sources said between 20 and 30 mourners at a funeral were killed in an air strike by an unidentified plane.

The bombs struck near the mosque in Abadam, half of which is in Niger and the other in Nigeria. Only the Niger side of the village was hit.

Troops from Niger and Chad are currently mobilized on the border against the Boko Haram threat but both countries' militaries denied being responsible.

Nigerian Air Force front man Air Commodore Dele Alonge claimed no knowledge of the bombing, adding: "There has not been any report from our people of such an incident."

A "friendly fire" incident could risk losing the coalition vital support from the local population and creating further tensions in the fragile coalition.

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau vowed in a new video posted on Tuesday evening on Twitter: "This election will not be held even if we are dead."

Shekau also grabbed credit for a large-scale attack on the northeastern city of Gombe last Saturday where leaflets were dropped warning people not to vote.

11 Killed in Suicide Attack in Northeast Nigeria
[AnNahar] Eleven people were killed in a suicide kaboom on a checkpoint near the town of Biu in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
on Tuesday, a vigilante and a resident said.

Gana Sheriff, the vigilante, said the attack happened at about 1:00 pm (1200 GMT) at Yamarkumi village, four kilometers (2.5 miles) from Biu in Borno state.

"It was a suicide kaboom by three men in a motorized tricycle. They killed 11 people, including Civilian JTF (joint task force) and child vendors at the checkpoint," he said.

"It was later that we realized the attackers came in two rickshaws. The one ahead had three people inside who opened fire and detonated three explosives.

"The second rickshaw immediately turned after the kabooms but was pursued into the bush by soldiers and local hunters."

Tijjani Kanta, a local resident who was at the Biu General Hospital, said there were 14 dead bodies at the hospital, three of them the attackers.

"Three of them belonged to the attackers. The other 11 were of the vigilantes and children selling articles to motorists at the checkpoint," Kanta added.

The attack came five days after at least seven people were killed when a female jacket wallah blew herself up at a crowded market in Biu, which is the biggest town in southern Borno.

Last month troops aided by vigilantes repelled an attempted incursion by Boko Haram fighters, killing 40.

Boko Haram Destroys Northeast Nigeria Town
[AnNahar] Hundreds of Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
turbans stormed the town of Askira Uba in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
, burning homes and public buildings, as attacks continued despite a regional campaign against the Salafist tough guys, witnesses said Tuesday.

Residents able to flee the town in Borno state left in droves, with only the sick and elderly remaining behind through the bully boys' rampage.

"We don't know their fate in the hands of Boko Haram," said a guard at the palace of the local chief, requesting anonymity.

The attack began at about 7:30 pm (1830 GMT) Monday and the hard boyz "burnt most of the homes in town", he added.

Another resident who fled, Aliyu Abdullahi, gave similar details but said Monday's attack was preceded by a similar raid on Sunday, when the snuffies torched the local emir's palace.

"When they burnt the palace of the emir on Sunday we thought they were done only for them to come back last night and set the town on fire," said Abdullahi who fled to the nearby town of Mubi, which was recently liberated from rebel control.

Abdullahi said residents in Askira Uba tried to call for help from troops based in the town of Chibok 25 kilometres (16 miles) away but that soldiers "refused to deploy".

More than 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped from Chibok in April, prompting global outrage and drawing unprecedented attention to the Boko Haram conflict.

The Islamists took over Chibok in September but troops backed by vigilantes reclaimed it days later.

Since then, a large contingent of soldiers have been based in the now infamous town and it was not immediately clear why they did not deploy to Askira Uba to repel the latest attack.

Defense officials were not available to comment.

and Niger have launched an unprecedented joint offensive against the Islamists this month and have claimed a series of major gains.

But violence has persisted, with critics saying Nigerian soldiers are still not doing enough to protect civilians against near daily assaults by the bad boys.

#5  The town's been burned. Most of the inhabitants have fled or been killed. What a perfect target for ARCLIGHT and napalm. Kill the krazed killers in town with ARCLIGHT, napalm those fleeing as they leave. Do that three or four times, and the krazed killers might get the idea, and head elsewhere. Hopefully it will be just as easy to kill them where they go as it would be where they are, if we'd only DO it.

group or organizing the trips, prosecutors said.

Bosnia's prosecutor said in a statement the six were members of "radical religious movements" and that some were on their way to Syria where they intended to join the forces of Islamic State group".

Some suspects were arrested at Sarajevo airport. The others were stopped at border crossings in the northwestern region of Bihac and the northern town of Maglaj.

Bosnia's intelligence services estimate that some 200 Bosnian citizens have joined the jihadist groups in Iraq or Syria, according to local media reports. Almost 30 of them were killed and around 40 are said to have returned to Bosnia.

Last year the Balkan state adopted a new law which anticipates sentences of up to ten-years for jihadists and their recruiters.

The first trial in which someone has been accused of recruiting jihadists to join the Islamic State group opened in January.

A radical Moslem holy man, Husein Bosnic, considered a leader of Islamist movement in Bosnia, is charged with urging followers to leave for Syria and Iraq to fight with Islamic hard boyz when he preached in several Bosnian towns in 2013 and 2014.

Bosnia's Moslems make up 40 percent of the country's 3.8 million inhabitants, and the vast majority practise a moderate form of Islam.

Turkish opposition MPs injured in scuffle during security bill debate
[Hurriyet Daily News] The first day of debate on a government-sponsored controversial homeland security package resulted in injuries to five parliamentarians because of a fracas between opposition and ruling party members, with the former accusing the latter of bullying in parliament.

Ertugrul Kurkcu and Sebahat Tuncel from the People's Democracy Party (HDP) and three Republican People's Party (CHP) lawmakers, Musa Cam, Aykut Erdogdu and Mahmut Tanal, were injured late Feb. 17 during a debate on the bill in a closed session of the General Assembly.

Lawmakers of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) were accused of beating two female deputies of the HDP, Pervin Buldan and Tuncel.

Court Nixes Guantanamo Conviction of Australian Ex-Detainee
[ABCNEWS.GO] An appeals court on Wednesday struck down the terrorism conviction of Australian David Hicks, reversing one of the few successful prosecutions of a prisoner before a U.S. military court at the Navy base at Guantanamo Bay.

The U.S. Court of Military Commission Review vacated Hicks' March 2007 guilty plea, the first conviction of a prisoner at the base in Cuba and still one of only a handful.

"We had been waiting for this decision for years," Hicks said at a news conference in Sydney. "It's a relief because it's over."

Iraq
Kurdish Forces Repulse Jihadist Attack South of Arbil
[AnNahar] Kurdish peshmerga forces have repulsed a major attack by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. jihadist group southwest of Iraqi Kurdistan's capital Arbil, officials said Wednesday.

"The attack which was launched at 8:00 pm (1700 GMT on Tuesday) was foiled. It lasted four hours and we killed 34 IS members," Sirwan Barzani, the local peshmerga commander, told AFP.

He said around 300 jihadists had attacked the villages of Sultan Abdallah and Tal al-Rim, between the towns of Gweyr and Makhmur, an area about 40 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of Arbil.

"Daesh (IS) was not able to use heavy military vehicles or boom-mobiles due to trenches dug out by peshmerga on the front lines," said Barzani, also the nephew of Kurdish leader Massud Barzani.

He said the IS offensive achieved no gains and added that his operation received air support from the U.S.-led coalition which has carried out hundreds of strikes against IS since August 2014.

"The festivities are over now. We are collecting their bodies," said Najat Ali, the deputy peshmerga commander on the Makhmur front.

Gweyr and Makhmur were among the very first targets of U.S. air strikes against the jihadists six months ago.

An IS advance had brought the jihadists to within striking distance of Arbil, the capital of the autonomous region of Kurdistan.

The jihadists have continued to attack the area nonetheless, including in a surprise offensive last month when they used boats to cross the Zab river and killed at least 26 members of the Kurdish security forces.

Twenty houses torched in continuing MILF-BIFF clashes
[Gulf Today] Members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front set fire to twenty houses in at least seven villages in North Cotabato province in Mindanao that forced at least 15,000 people to flee their homes.

Officer Norudin Solaiman, the chief police investigator, said the arson stemmed from continuing clashes between the MILF and its secessionist group the BIFF. He said the clashes, which already resulted in the deaths of an MILF commander and six other combatants, also forced hundreds of families to evacuate.

Solaiman stressed the clashes between the MILF and the BIFF were not caused by the killing of 44 elite police commandos on January 25. Instead, he said the clashes stemmed from rido (clan war) between the slain MILF commander and his BIFF rival for control of villages in North Cotabato and Maguindanao.

BIFF spokesman Abu Misry Mama promised they would get revenge as he accused Governor Emmylou Mendoza-Talino of North Cotabato of supporting the MILF in their continuing clashes. Mama warned these would include attacks on civilian populations in North Cotabato's "vulnerable" towns and cities.

Kurdish forces intensify anti-ISIS operations, reaching Jarablus
[ARA] On Wednesday, the Kurdish joint forces (People's Protection Units "YPG" and the Peshmerga) pounded locations of the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) in the city of Jarablus, in northern Syria.

The Kurdish forces launched rockets from the village of al-Bayadiya in the countryside of the Jarablus, targeting military units of the IS.

Speaking to ARA News in Jarablus, media activist Ali Mahmoud reported that more than six rockets hit IS strongholds in the city center and Safa neighborhood. No casualties were reported.

Nuha Mustafa, a teacher based in Jarablus, said that the Kurdish rockets caused a state of alert among IS militants, "who started to move weapons from the targeted areas to other neighborhoods in the city.

"Civilians are trying to escape, but all roads are blocked by IS militants who are preparing for confrontations with the Kurdish forces," said Mustafa.

In a related development, Fawaz Mustafa, commander in al-Tawhid Brigade of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), told ARA News: "We demand the civilians to evacuate the city, so that our troops in Manbij prepare to head to Jarablus soon in order to back the Kurdish forces against ISIS."

I do hope they had time and sense to destroy -not just shred - any printed information. You would think they learned something from Iran.

#4  Not the printed info that is worrying. They left a special intel-link up because they weren't sure if they'd return, and it took them 3 freagin days to remote-delete the data successfully.

Special intel-link 'Opendata' to all embassy related information, up for three days, because they weren't sure they would return and may need access to quickly. The Ambassador isn't even to blame, he got permission from Patrick Kennedy at State!

Some like their women a little jowly. It's the age we live in. Might explain Hillary's enduring popularity.

#8  The OpenNet system is the unclassified network. All embassy employees use it- Cleared Americans and Locally Employed Staff.

The system handles up to SBU material - not classified. The local employees have full access and the systems administrators are local employees. Whatever we had on that system was likely compromised a long time ago. Much of the system can be controlled remotely from WDC. Is it cool that it happened - no. A national security issue - also no.

There is no such thing as a "Special intel-link 'Opendata." You don't know WTF you're talking about.

People are reading waaaaaay too much into this.
