[AnNahar] Niger's government on Tuesday declared a state of emergency in the Diffa region along the border with Nigeria, which has been attacked repeatedly by Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... in recent days.
"The state of emergency is proclaimed in the Diffa region for a period of 15 days," a statement read on state radio said. The measure will grant increased powers to security forces, including to carry out searches.

[Ynet] The United States is closing its embassy in Yemen amid political deadlock and deteriorating security conditions after the takeover of the country by Iranian catspaws, two US officials said.
The officials said diplomats were being evacuated from the country on Tuesday and the embassy will suspend operations until conditions improve. Yemen has been in crisis for months with Iran-linked Shiite Houthi ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ... rebels besieging the capital and then taking control. The US officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the closure publicly on the record.
Recall, dear Reader, that the State Department first sent home families, then reduced to a skeleton staff. One hopes they remembered to ship out or shred everything it would be embarassing if Iran's Houthis or Al Qaeda's foot soldiers happened to find when they poked through the files, like they did in Benghazi after overrrunning the consulate.

Just heard (Fox) that our Marines were required to surrender their weapons to the new "Government" before departing in a private (No US markings aside, maybe, N-number)aircraft.
#4
My understanding is that the Marine security detail departed Yemen via commercial air. In doing so, it appears they were prohibited from taking their weapons on the flight. Hopefully they all got out safely. Someone's arse should be in a sling over this one (commercial air extraction of military personnel). I cannot begin to tell you what could have gone wrong with this type of redeployment/extraction. Absolutely maddening.
#5
Guessing again, but I suspect whomever is now in charge of Yemen has PROHIITED U.S. military flights over Yemeni territory. The DoD and State Department are in compliance. Pulling those Marines out via CML air would have required some very high level approvals.

Yea, it would have had to be Foggy Bottom and/or higher. These foreign policy calamities are taking place faster than the news cycle can handle them. I hope and pray we can survive this bastid.

What's wrong with cooking the stats on the A-10? The stats on the CPI are cooked, as are the stats on unemployment . . . and the inflation rate . . . . . and the GDP . . . . . and all the pother important numbers. So why not the A-10 as well?
How much do you want to bet all those PMs still got PCS or retirement awards with all the delays and overruns in costs in the next-generation aircraft programs? Got to protect our own (see - institutional corruption)

These bastards are all about feeding Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman, and putting money into local districts and campaign pockets -- and securing future jobs with those companies.
These traitorous bastards should be stripped of rank and put in the stockade for dereliction of duty, namely the duty to provide the weapon systems the actual warfighters need in order to win wars.

[AnNahar] U.S. President Barack Obama I mean, I do think at a certain point you've made enough money... on Tuesday asked Congress for its backing to fight the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... group without geographical limits, but with curbs on the use of ground forces.
Tantamount to a declaration of war, the authority would allow Obama to prosecute the fight against the jihadist group on a firmer legal basis, while providing political cover at home.
It signals a ramping up of pressure on IS -- which now controls swaths of Syria and Iraq -- as the Iraqi government prepares for a major ground offensive, expected within months.
But intensive negotiations with U.S. politicians forced the White House to limit Obama's power to deploy the military in both form and scope.
The text "does not authorize the use of the United States Armed Forces in enduring offensive ground combat operations," the text sent Congress read.
That does not rule out special forces operations, but does preclude a ground invasion or peace enforcement mission.
"This authorization for the use of military force shall terminate three years after the date of the enactment of this joint resolution, unless reauthorized."
Obama will also have to report to Congress every six months.
But there is no geographical limit on the scope of military actions.
Since the mid-2014 the U.S. military has been involved in Arclight airstrikes against IS in Iraq and Syria.
Republican Senator Bob Corker, who chairs the Senate foreign relations committee, said he would "quickly begin to hold rigorous hearings" on the authorization, which he supports.

His primary position is to defend this nation. Here is what his authorization should look like. "Mr. President we the people see ISIS as a grave threat to the United States and the world. You, by the nature of your position, is obligated to defend this nation. We authorize you to use ever means necessary to defeat Radical Islam known as ISIS. This authorization includes the full forces of our government agencies and the military up to and including nuclear weapons. What we will not tolerate from you Mr. President is standing idle thus allowing ISIS to grow into a larger threat that will cost more of our national treasures of life and money. So Mr. President we anxiously await to imolement your plan of action."

Because our Iranian friends say we're not doing enough?

Because by the War Powers act he has to submit something to Congress at this point...
But still, every law should have these caviats:
"This authorization for the use of military force shall terminate three years after the date of the enactment of this joint resolution, unless reauthorized."
Obama will also have to report to Congress every six months."

On a higher or broader note, personally I'm interpreting this as evidencia that the Bammer's POTUS successor come Jan.2017 will likely be another Anti-American Amerikan [Anti-US US] OWG Globalist???
President Barack Obama said he would not hesitate to send US special forces to kill top Islamic State extremists, as he called on Congress Wednesday to authorize operations that stop short of a full-scale invasion.

The cases have been picked from 262 cases in different courts of the province from 2010 to date.
The suspects, who are all Moslems booked under four sections of Chapter XV (of offences relating to religion) of the Pakistain Penal Code, are languishing in jails and are not being convicted because of lack of evidence, poor evidence, and non-availability of their counsel.
A high-powered committee, headed by provincial secretary prosecution Rana Maqbool, sat fourth time a couple of days back since its constitution by the provincial government in Jan 2015 to discuss the modalities to pursue cases on a fast track basis and take all the religious schools of thought into confidence to avoid any backlash following release of the suspects.
The establishment of the committee followed the liquidation of human rights ...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless... lawyer Rashid Rehman in Multan in May last year who was pleading the case of a blasphemy accused.
Police sources, associated with the outcome of the meetings, told Dawn on Monday that the participants in the meeting were of the view the provincial government would 'defend' the jugged Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try! suspects in courts as blasphemy accused hardly got a lawyer to defend his/her case because of societal pressures and threats.
They said only those cases had been picked in the first phase which, according to the committee, were genuine and the accused were victimised, adding some of the arrested accused upon whom doubts prevailed might also be medically examined to determine their mental health.
The sources said the committee as empowered by the government was mulling to get decree from religious scholars of all schools of thought to avoid reaction. They said that in the last meeting which took place on Monday it was decided to increase number of cases for speedy trial and initiate judicial process in near future.

[DAWN] Pakistain on Tuesday said that any foreign funding by individuals and organizations to private entities in Pakistain through informal channels irrespective of the source or country was being brought under tighter scrutiny in the National Action Plan (NAP) against terrorism.
"The purpose of bringing such funding under tighter scrutiny is to rule out any possibility of financing murderous Moslems or terrorist organizations," said Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam.
She was responding to a statement issued by the Saudi embassy in Islamabad on Monday which denied funding of what it called the bully boy mindset through its financial support of religious seminaries in Pakistain.
"A section of the media has been propagating a false impression that the Kingdom of Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... is funding the bully boy mindset in Pakistain through its financial support for religious seminaries," a press statement issued by the Saudi embassy had said.

Whoops! How many of those aircraft were Turkish, Saudi, UAE, etc?
[IraqiNews.com] The Parliamentary Commission on Security and Defense revealed Tuesday, that there are many documents and photographs confirming that the international coalition aircrafts delivered aids, weapons and supplies to ISIS using parachutes, while the government demanded to provide a clear report on such violations, monitor the aircrafts movement and set up ambushes to bring them down.
Committee Chairman MP Hakim Zamili said in a presser at the House of Representatives, attended by IraqiNews.com, "Our armed forces, volunteer fighters, Peshmerga and rustics have achieved victories against the ISIS organization in all operations," noting that, "Meanwhile, ...back at the cheese factory, all the pieces finally fell together in Fluffy's mind... we keep finding documents, pictures, and information confirming that the coalition aircrafts violate the Iraqi illusory sovereignty and the international norms in order to prolong the war with ISIS by providing it with aid by air or on land."
"We have been receiving this information continuously from many sources, documented in photos and reports to prove that the planes did land at some airports in djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... , Tal Afar, Al Kiara, and Araf Lahib areas in Kara Tepeh in Diyala and Yathrib, in addition to Dhuluiya village, Fallujah Stadium in Anbar desert," Zamali stated.
"The monitoring reports and available photos show ammunition, weapons and supplies being delivered by parachutes," he added.
Zamili warned of the seriousness of this matter on Iraq's security, that will prolong the war against ISIS. He demanded the government to provide a clear report for the House of Representatives and the Air Defense Forces to monitor the movement of aircrafts and to set up ambushes to bring them down and locate their sources.

wonder if that list includes the "mis-drops" of US gear and arms into ISIS held territories?

[MEMRI] "We have a long border on the Persian Gulf waters, and we have approval to act assertively on this level as far as global public opinion and international law are concerned. This is because several countries have declared, and agreed, to sell oil to Iraq. Iraq is a country that is in a state of war against us, and as the whole world agrees, we can examine commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz in order to see whether it is carrying something for Iraq or not, and as everyone will agree, if one day we decided [to do this], we will confiscate the oil sold to Iraq, or oversee [oil] sales. Therefore, as you notice, these countries that are now talking about failure to coordinate with OPEC are also vulnerable... We want to recommend again to these countries to cooperate with OPEC, and to stress that they must give priority to doing so, because this will be for their own good and for OPEC's good."[3]

Again, the risk or scenario is there that any Sunni-led Yemeni Govt. or Govt-in-exile may ask the ISIS/ISIL andor the Qaeda Boyz [Al-Nusra] to militarily intervene - this will set up a likely military confrontation between the Bammer = USA, + the US' new BFF or Best Frenemy Forevar! in the ME, Persian Gulf Rising Iran = aka Soon-to-be-Nukulaar-wid-US/Western-consent Nuclear Iran.
Put another way, POSSIBLE MAJOR CONFRONTATION, WAR BETWEEN THE FUTURE OWG NAU + FUTURE OWG PERSIAN GULF, ME UNION(S)???

[AnNahar] Leb's Hizbullah ...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory... has taken the lead role on a key frontline in southern Syria near the border with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, a monitoring group said Tuesday.
A Syrian military source confirmed Hizbullah was engaged in fighting in Quneitra and Daraa provinces as part of efforts to stop rebels advancing in the area.
Hizbullah and Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Light of the Alawites... 's troops launched a new operation on Sunday to reclaim swathes of territory captured recently by rebels and jihadists, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
"Hizbullah has taken the initiative to lead army and Iranian forces in the triangle of territory linking Daraa, Quneitra and the southwest of Damascus provinces," said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the British-based monitoring group.
"The frontline is on the border with the occupied Golan Heights," he added. "They have since taken back a string of villages and hills."
Iran has acknowledged sending military advisers and high-ranking officers from the elite Revolutionary Guard to help its ally Assad.
Unlike the Observatory, the military source said the Syrian army was leading the offensive.
"The Syrian army and its allies, including Hizbullah, are fighting battles against gangs in Quneitra and Daraa provinces," the source told Agence La Belle France-Presse on condition of anonymity.
He added that the goal of the campaign was to "put a stop to the gunnies's attacks, (as they inch) towards the capital."
Syrian rebels and the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra ...the current nom de guerre of al-Qaeda in the Levant, which isn't to be confused with al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Levant... Front have in recent weeks made sweeping gains in the south of the country.
Daraa and Quneitra are important because they are located near Damascus, Jordan and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
Hizbullah first acknowledged it was sending troops into Syria to back Assad in early 2013 against the mainly Sunni rebels.
According to the Observatory, about 5,000 Hizbullah fighters are now deployed across the country.
Ynet efficiently comes at the story from a different perspective:
Syria's army gained ground from rebels in the south on Tuesday in what a monitoring group described as a large-scale offensive in the region backed by Lebanese Hezbollah fighters against turbans including al-Qaeda's Syrian wing.
The south is one of the last remaining areas where mainstream, non-jihadist rebels fighting Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Terror of Aleppo ... have a foothold. Just a short drive to Damascus, the area remains a risk to the Syrian leader, who has otherwise consolidated control over much of the west.
[NBCNEWS] former German rapper known as "Deso Dogg" has been declared an international terrorist over alleged ties to ISIS and added to the U.S. terror blacklist.
According to the State Department, 39-year-old Denis Cuspert -- who now goes by the name Abu Talha al-Almani -- joined the group now known as ISIS in 2012, has pledged allegiance to its leader and appeared in numerous videos on behalf of the terror organization. In the most recent video, which was released in November, Cuspert "appears holding a severed head he claims belongs to a man executed for opposing" ISIS, the State Department said in a statement.
The State Department said Cuspert is "emblematic of the type of foreign recruit" ISIS seeks, has been a "willing pitchman" for the organization's "atrocities" and as such been officially designated as a "foreign terrorist fighter and operative" for the group.
Cuspert -- who the State Department said is wanted by the German government on suspicion of terrorism activities -- has long been on the radar of intelligence officials back home.
Last September, German intelligence officials put together a 25-page analysis on the Berlin native's radicalization process. It said that Cuspert -- who as Deso Dogg rapped "welcome to my world full of hate and blood" in a 2007 music video -- is believed to have been radicalized in Germany's Salafist scene and quickly gained popularity as a radical preacher who tried to recruit followers for ISIS. Cuspert "in a few years developed into a well-known German-speaking demagogue of the armed Jihad," the report said.

[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] Already under fire from Iraq War veterans for making up events, NBC is taking new flak today from former military brass over a correspondent's claim that sniper hero Chris Kyle was a "racist" on "killing sprees" while protecting troops in Iraq.
Some 22 retired generals and admirals, including a former deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence, joined with dozens of other officers and the press watchdog Media Research Center in a letter to demand an apology from NBC parent Comcast after the network refused to acknowledge the comments.
Kyle, the subject of the hit movie "American Sniper," said a letter to Comcast provided to Secrets, "is a hero, not a talking point for a smug journalist."
The comment came from Middle East news hound Ayman Mohyeldin January 29 on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program. Ayman, formerly with Al Jazeera, said of Kyle:
"Some of what people have described as his racist tendencies towards Iraqis and Moslems when he was going on some of these, you know, killing sprees in Iraq on assignment."
His smackdown of Kyle, considered the nation's most effective sniper ever, caught host Joe Scarborough by surprise. He immediately challenged Mohyeldin's claim Kyle went on killing sprees, and ended the segment saying, "All right, when we come back, Ayman is going to kick around Santa Claus."
In their letter, the brass and veterans demanded an on-air apology. "Mohyeldin's statements were an inexcusable slap in the face to the widow of Chris Kyle and to all those in the armed forces who continue to serve our country in harm's way. Such rants do not add anything to a thoughtful discussion of public policy regarding Iraq," they wrote in the letter being delivered today.
