Suicide Attack at Afghan Funeral Kills Nine
[AnNahar] A suicide kaboom at a funeral in northern Afghanistan killed at least nine people on Monday, officials said, underlining nationwide insecurity as NATO

The blast followed a series of attacks in the capital Kabul which have heightened concerns that Afghanistan could tip into a spiral of violence as the U.S.-led military presence declines.

Soldier Killed in Mine Explosion in Southern Tunisia
[AnNahar] A Tunisian soldier was killed in the southern region of Kef, the defense ministry front man told AFP.

He was killed in a mine kaboom while carrying out an operation in the area.

"Today men in a terrorist group were tracked to Mount Sammama near Kasserine," Belhassan Oueslati said.

"Aircraft were used and commando forces made a ground assault. A soldier on board a Hummer was killed when a mine went kaboom!," he said, adding that the operation was still under way.

Since the revolution of January 2011, Tunisia has seen a rise in Islamist extremism. For the past two years, the army has been hunting jihadists in the border area.

Deadly ambushes by gunnies on the police and army are common in the region, where cross-border smuggling of fuel and food is also rife.

Egypt Thwarts Islamic State-Linked Bid To Hit Israeli Targets At Sea
[IsraelTimes] Egypt thwarted a bid by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
-affiliated forces of Evil to attack Israeli targets in the Mediterranean Sea last month, Israel's Channel 2 reported Monday. The forces of Evil commandeered an Egyptian Navy missile boat for the planned attack, the TV report said, but were stopped at sea by a pursuing vessel, and eight people were believed killed in the ensuing battle.

At the time of the incident, on November 12, the Egyptian military said one of its navy vessels came under "terrorist" attack in the Mediterranean, leaving five servicemen injured and eight others missing at sea. Four boats used by the assailants were destroyed and 32 of the suspected Lions of Islam were tossed in the slammer
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
and were under interrogation, the military said in a statement at the time.

Adding fresh detail to that account, Monday's Israeli TV report said Islamic State-linked Sunni murderous Moslems "staged an accident" and were able to install one of their own group in temporary charge of an Egyptian missile boat. They set out for sea from the port of Damietta, and intended to target Israeli boats and/or gas installations in the Mediterranean.

Egyptian naval authorities, realizing something was awry on the basis of routine radio exchanges with the commandeered vessel, sent out other vessels in pursuit. "They managed to neutralize" the terrorists.

The TV report did not give a source for the new information. It noted the very close cooperation between the Egyptian and Israeli navies.

Egypt's official MENA news agency had reported on November 12 that a naval vessel was set alight in an exchange of fire with assailants about 70 kilometers off Egypt's coast. It said the Egyptian air force was also called in to deal with the incident.

Earlier last month, Rooters reported that a Sinai-based al-Qaeda affiliate group declared its fealty to Islamic State, the terror organization which has taken over large parts of Syria and Iraq.

The Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis
...Supporters of Jerusalem, the current pen name of al-Qaeda in the Sinai Peninsula...
terror group said in a statement that "after entrusting God we decided to swear allegiance to the emir of the faithful His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
, caliph of the Moslems in Syria and Iraq and in other countries," referring to the leader of IS who has declared the territory under his control to be a new Moslem caliphate and himself its ruler.

The Sinai group has carried out numerous attacks against Egyptian forces since the military overthrew Islamist president Mohammed Morsi last year amid massive protests against him.

IS-linked group claims killing of American in Egypt
[Beirut Daily Star] An Egyptian murderous Moslem group that pledged allegiance to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. organization last month has claimed it was behind the killing of an American oil worker in August.

"We claim the murder of American oilman William Henderson in the Western Desert" of Egypt, Ansar Beit al-Maqdis said on Twitter.

The message was accompanied by pictures of Henderson's work identity cards and his passport, without providing any more details.

Egyptian security sources contacted by AFP on Monday said police had received information that jihadists had killed Henderson in August.

Henderson, who worked for the US oil company Apache, was slain near his workplace in the Western Desert, the sources added.

According to US media reports that cited Henderson's obituary and employer, the 58-year-old had been killed in a carjacking while working in the Karama oil field on August 6.

Reports: 'Terrorists' Behead Off-Duty Tunisia Policeman
[AnNahar] "Terrorists" in Tunisia have kidnapped and decapitated an off-duty policeman, media reports on Monday cited the interior ministry as saying.

The officer and his brother were in a car in the Kef area of the northwest when gunnies seeking to rob them immobilized the vehicle.
How do the Lions of Islam differ from common bandits?
During the robbery, the attackers discovered that the man was in the police and they kidnapped and later killed him, radio stations Mosaique and Express-FM quoted a ministry front man as saying.

The man's brother was not harmed in the attack which happened on Thursday but has only just been reported.

Security forces are now engaged in a mopping up operation in the mountainous area, which is close to the frontier with Algeria.

Since the revolution of January 2011, Tunisia has seen a rise in Islamist extremism. For the past two years, the army has been hunting jihadists in the border area.

Deadly ambushes by gunnies on the police and army are common in the region, where cross-border smuggling of fuel and food is also rife.

Al-Shabab massacres infidels at Kenyan quarry
Al-Shabab militants have killed 36 non-Muslim quarry workers near the north Kenyan town of Mandera. The attackers gunned down the non-Muslims after separating them from Muslims, residents said.

The attack on the quarry workers took place early on Tuesday. Witnesses said the victims were caught after midnight, while sleeping in their tents at the quarry in Kormey.

An eyewitness said most of the victims appeared to have been lined up and shot in the head, at close range. He said four were beheaded inside their tents, while three appeared to have escaped to Mandera town.

Al-Shabab took credit for the attack, blaming the involvement of Kenyan forces in Somalia "and their ongoing atrocities therein, such as the recent air strikes on Muslims". The group put the number of killed at 40, higher than official accounts.

Casualties as Gunmen Attack Northeast Kenya Bar
[AnNahar] Gunmen hurled grenades and sprayed bullets at a bar in the northeastern Kenyan town of Wajir late Monday, the latest in a series of attacks in the region, the Red Thingy said.

One person was "feared dead" and five others were rushed to hospital with wounds, said the Kenyan Red Thingy, which reported "three blasts and gunshots" at a club in the town, where Somalia's al-Qaeda-affiliated Shabaab and other militia have carried out a string of raids.

Gunmen appeared to have targeted a bar popular with workers from outside the majority Moslem town.

The gunfire follows an attack last month in which Islamists executed 28 non-Moslems who were grabbed from a bus in the far northeast of the country, near the town of Mandera.

The Shehab said the bus attack was carried out in Dire Revenge for police raids on mosques in Kenya's key port of Mombasa.

Kenya has suffered a series of attacks since invading Somalia in 2011 to attack the Shabaab. Kenyan forces have since joined an African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
force battling the Islamists.

No claim of responsibility for Monday's Wajir attack has been made.

Several key unions including for civil servants have warned members to leave the restive northeast until the government can ensure their safety.

Professionals working in the largely Moslem and ethnic Somali northeastern regions often come from further south in Kenya, where Christians make up about 80 percent of the population.

On Sunday, Kenyan media reported the embattled interior minister and police chief may soon be sacked over "repeated lapses" in security following a wave of attacks.

Both officials mentioned in the report have been under fire since last year's attack by the Shabaab against the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, in which at least 67 people were killed in a siege involving just four gunnies and which lasted four days.

Worries over internal security mounted when Shabaab rebels then massacred 100 people in a string of raids against villages in the Lamu region on the Kenyan coast in June and July.

The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
province in the south of the country has killed four soldiers and maimed three.

The officials say two Yemeni army patrols were targeted with two kabooms on Monday. They suspect al-Qaeda was behind the attack.

The officials say improvised bombs were planted on a main road. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to media.

Dutch Court Sentences 20 Year-Old For Fighting In Syria With IS
[Ynet] A Dutch court sentenced a young man on Monday to three years in jail for premeditated murder and preparing a terrorist attack after fighting with Salafist tough guys in Syria and urging others to join the insurgency.

The tribunal in The Hague said the man, identified only as Maher H., took part in armed conflict in Syria in 2013-2014 and, after his return to the Netherlands, spreading materials to incite others to commit similar crimes.

Maher H. had testified that he had gone to do humanitarian work, but judges sided with prosecutors, who had showed pictures of him wearing camouflage and toting a Kalashnikov rifle.

The defendant's wife was acquitted of charges of recruiting for the snuffies and a third defendant was sentenced to 200 hours of community service.

Police: Local Leader Shot Dead as Indian Kashmir Votes
Possibly an infiltration of Pakistani jihadis come to cause trouble -- it's been a bit since we saw one of those stories...
[AnNahar] Suspected rebels have rubbed out a village head in Indian Kashmire, police said Monday, a day before a second stage of voting in the tense Moslem-majority state.

Security is tight across the region, where thousands of extra paramilitary troops have been deployed during local elections, which are being held in five stages.

The killing occurred late Sunday, the day after a grenade attack injured eight people near a paramilitary bunker in Srinagar, the main city of the disputed region which is also claimed by Pakistain.

Police said Abdul Rashid Bhat, an elected leader of Nazneenpora village, 60 kilometers (37 miles) south of Srinagar, was struck down in his prime.

"He was intercepted by Lions of Islam outside his house and rubbed out," superintendent of police Wahid Shah told AFP.

Turnout was high for the first phase of voting last Tuesday, when more than 70 percent of the electorate cast their ballots in 15 constituencies.

The state of Jammu and Kashmire will vote in five phases, with results due on December 23.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is staging a bold attempt to seize control of the Jammu and Kashmire legislature, a move unthinkable until very recently.

The Hindu nationalist party has traditionally had no base in the Kashmire Valley, where residents' resentment against Indian rule runs high.

About a dozen rebel groups have been fighting Indian forces since 1989 for independence or to merge the territory with Pakistain. The fighting has left tens of thousands dead, mostly civilians.

Most separatist leaders opposed to Indian rule, who have called for boycott of the polls, were either locked away
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
or confined to their houses after elections were announced.

My take is that the IS leadership is not unified; there are likely separate commands for Syria and Iraq. If reports about al Baghdadi having to visit Mosul, and reports of in-fighting between imported muscle and Baath leadership are true, then the IS situation in Iraq is not good.

Iraq's prime minister retires 24 Interior Ministry officials
[Beirut Daily Star] Iraq's prime minister said Monday that he retired 24 officials from the Interior Ministry as part of efforts to restructure the country's security apparatus so it could better confront the threat from the murderous Moslem group ISIS.

Haider al-Abadi's announcement came as the jihadis attacked a police checkpoint near Iraq's border with Syria, killing at least 15 Iraqi coppers in an assault that underscored the depth of the country's turmoil in the face of the ISIS-led onslaught.

It also came one day after Abadi said an investigation had discovered the existence of 50,000 fictitious names registered in the country's military, or the equivalent of around four full army divisions.

The retirement of two dozen Interior Ministry officials is part of Abadi's efforts to "restructure the security forces and make them more effective in the face of terrorism," according to statements on his official Twitter and Facebook pages.

Abadi, who became Iraq's prime minister in September, has already retired a number of senior military officials in a push to reform the force. Monday's statements did not identify the individuals or the ranks of officials sent into early retirement.

First footage surfaces: Iranian jet seen attacking ISIS targets in Iraq
Salt to taste. We need more than Haaretz on this story...
The Iranian Air Force is bombing Islamic State (ISIS) targets inside Iraqi territory. It is an intensification of Iran's military involvement on the side of the Shia regime of its neighbor and most likely also a sign of its alleged coordination with the U.S. military which is leading the international coalition fighting ISIS.

The first footage of an Iranian aircraft bombing inside Iraq was broadcast by Al Jazeera a few days ago in a report on a joint operation by the Kurdish Peshmerga forces, Iraq's army and Shia militias to recapture two Kurdish towns in northeastern Iraq, near the Iranian border. The report mentions "Iraqi jet-fighters," but the plane seen bombing ISIS positions is a F-4 Phantom, which is not in Iraqi service.

The venerable Phantom which first entered service in 1960 (and was retired by the U.S. Air Force in the 1990s and Israel in 2004) still flies with two air-forces in the region, Turkey and Iran. The Phantom's markings are not visible in the Al Jazeera footage but since Turkey has so far refused to militarily aid the Kurds fighting across the border and the proximity to Iran, it is almost certainly an Iranian fighter.

In recent months Iran has increased its military assistance to the Iraqi army which is on the brink of collapsing in the face of ISIS advance and has also established and equipped Shia militias. In addition to the military advice and arms supplies, there have been multiple reports of active participation of members of Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) in the fighting and unconfirmed reports of the deployment of Iranian aircraft to airfields in Iraq, but the Al Jazeera footage is the first documented of Iranian air attacks on Iraqi territory.

It is highly unlikely that fighter-jets would be operating in the same area where dozens of American planes, along with those of other air-forces of the international coalition, are also carrying out attacks against ISIS, without significant coordination. Iran has only a limited number of antiquated combat aircraft, such as the F-4, purchased during the rule of the Shah, before the 1979 Islamic revolution, and still flying for nearly four decades thanks to a great deal of creative maintenance. They wouldn't be risking these in American-dominated airspace if they hadn't received assurances that they were liable to be shot down. The Phantom captured by an Al Jazeera camera crew is proof that coordination between the two sides is going at some level.
The Times of Israel adds this detail:
Parts of Al-Jazeera report included video footage of what the news channel called "Iraqi jet-fighters" however, military analysts from Jane's Information Group were quick to point out that the aircraft were actually Iranian F-4 Phantom II jets.

#3  Phantoms in a ground attack role? An example, I guess, of the Rumsfeldian dictum that you go to war with the obsolete, inappropriate air assets you've got.

As for operating around American air, ValJar would be upset if we shot down an Iranian plane.

This should be interesting, + also poten dangerous, given that Anti-Shia/Iran Sunni Turkey is only beginning to flex its MilPol muscles.

IS Jihadists Kill 16 Border Guards in Western Iraq

jihadist group on their post near the Syrian frontier, provincial and security officials said.

"Sixteen border guards, including a captain, were killed and four maimed in an attack targeting their headquarters in Al-Walid, near the Syrian border," Faleh al-Issawi, deputy head of Anbar provincial council, told AFP.

He said the attack occurred at around 6:00 am (0300 GMT).

A commander in the Iraqi border force and a police major confirmed the corpse count.

Despite the attack, "Al-Walid is still in the hands of Iraqi forces," the major said.

The crossing is one of the country's most remote outposts and lies 500 kilometers (310 miles) west of Baghdad near the westernmost point in Anbar province where the borders of Iraq, Syria and Jordan meet.

Jihadist fighters briefly held Al-Walid border crossing on June 23 but it has remained in government hands since.

Government forces backed by U.S.-led Arclight airstrikes, Kurdish forces, Sunni tribal fighters and Shiite snuffies have in recent weeks gradually clawed back some of the land lost since June.

But IS fighters have held their ground in Anbar and tried to tighten their grip on the province by attacking government positions and buildings in its capital Ramadi.

Palestinian Woman Stabs Israeli, Shot by Army
[AnNahar] A Paleostinian woman stabbed an Israeli civilian in a Jewish settlement bloc in the southern West Bank on Monday and was then shot and maimed by the Israeli army, the military said.

The attack was the first by a Paleostinian woman in a wave of unrest in Israel and the occupied territories, and comes as tensions run high particularly in Jerusalem and nearby areas of the West Bank.

The civilian suffered minor injuries in the stabbing near a major crossroads in the Gush Etzion settlement bloc south of Bethlehem, an army statement said.

"Security forces on site overpowered the suspect and transferred her for further medical assistance," it said.

Police had initially said the stabbing victim was a soldier. They said the attacker was shot.

A spokeswoman for the Jerusalem hospital where the woman was taken said she was in a serious condition.

Hundreds Rally In Support Of Bilingual School After Attack
Hotheads on both sides are getting hotter... The Palestinians don't seem to grasp that this is no longer the Labour-consensus Israel of a generation ago, and windows are closing.
[IsraelTimes] Students at the Max Rayne Hand in Hand School returned to school Sunday as police continue to investigate the vandalism and arson attack that damaged Jerusalem"s bilingual Hebrew-Arabic school Saturday night.

School officials and parents said they would not allow the anti-coexistence message to derail their mission, as dozens rallied outside to denounce the incident and ministers condemned the attack.

Firefighters responding to a fire set in the school"s playground Saturday night found racist anti-Arab graffiti spray painted on the buildings, reading "Death to Arabs," "Kahane was right" and "down with assimilation."

Clashes Break Out In West Bank Town After Stabbing Attack
[IsraelTimes] Residents of Beit Fajjar south of Bethlehem clashed with Israeli police Monday, in the wake of a stabbing attack on an Israeli by a 22-year-old woman from the West Bank town.

Police attempted to disperse the rioters with tear gas.

Security forces surrounded the home of Amal Taqatqa before the festivities broke out, shortly after she attacked an Israeli earlier in the day at the nearby Gush Etzion junction south of Jerusalem.

Her father was locked away
You have the right to remain silent...
, according to Paleostinian news agency Ma'an.

Taqatqa was shot by soldiers at the scene and was brought to Hadassah-Ein Kerem hospital at death's door. The Paleostinian Ma'an news site said she was affiliated with the Fatah movement.

In 2011, Taqatqa tried to stab a soldier at the same location, according to Ma'an. Her family said at the time that she was mentally disabled.

In July, 14-year-old Beit Fajjar resident Nasri Taqatqa was killed during festivities between Israeli forces and Paleostinians.

A video reportedly from the scene of the stabbing showed Israeli soldiers from the Kfir infantry brigade firing toward a dark object lying on the ground dozens of meters away, possibly the attacker.

Photos from the scene showed a wood-handled steak knife apparently used as the attack weapon.

Security forces found another knife on the attacker, Ynet reported.

The attack was near the site of a number of a previous terror attacks over recent months. The IDF recently bolstered its presence at the busy junction in the wake of the assaults.

BIFF clash leaves two soliders injured
[Mindanao Examiner] Two Philippine soldiers were injured in a clash with militants in Maguindanao province that coincided with Monday’s State of the Region address in the Muslim autonomous region.

Troops were searching for improvised explosives in the town of Shariff Saydona when some 30 Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters attacked them, triggering fierce clashes in the village of Nabundas.

Captain Jo Ann Petinglay said, "Two platoons of soldiers while conducting security patrol in the area – which was reported to have IEDs – were fired upon by some 30 members of the BIFF under (rebel commanders) Bisaya and Sanad. As a result, two members of the 45th Infantry Battalion were wounded and an undetermined (number of casualties) on the side of the enemy."

Petinglay called on local governments and former militant groups Moro National Liberation Front and Moro Islamic Liberation Front to keep watch over the security situation in their areas and help the government in stopping terrorism by providing information to authorities.

Unrest as Thai PM in Malaysia for talks
[Bangkok Post] Dozens of banners attacking the Thai government were seen in the deep South on Monday morning, and some small bombs exploded, as Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha headed to Kuala Lumpur for a day of talks on the southern insurgency. Gen Prayut's discussions with the Malaysian prime minister will include the issue of peace talks with groups of insurgents led by the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) operating in southern Thailand.

n Kapho district of Pattani, a vehicle carrying district officials led by an assistant district chief was struck by a bomb in the road, but caused no casualties.

In Yala, an anti-government banner written in the Malayu language was found at Ban Bo Chet Luk in tambon Yupo. A police bomb disposal unit was dispatched to remove the banner and investigate. As the team were returning to their vehicle, a bomb planted nearby went off. Nobody was hurt

In Ruso district, a healthcare center was torched early in the morning. Insurgents set fire to a water pump on the side of the building, but the fire was quickly put out by villagers and caused only slight damage. In Waeng district, a banner was hung on a bridge. When police removed it with a stick, a small bomb inside a PVC pipe went off, but no one was injured.

Syria claims terror groups used chlorine as weapon
[Beirut Daily Star] Syria's vice foreign minister denied Monday that his government ever used chemical weapons or chlorine during the country's brutal civil war and warned that terror groups are using such weapons.

Faisal Mekdad was speaking at a meeting of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons as the group comes close to fully eliminating Damascus' deadly stockpile of nerve agents and poison gas ‐ helping international efforts to prevent bully boyz using such weapons.

Mekdad said terror groups "have used chlorine gas in several of the regions of Syria and Iraq."

It's not the first time such claims have been made. In October, Iraqi officials said ISIS murderous Moslems used chlorine gas during fighting with security forces and Shiite Death Eaters north of Baghdad. The statements in Iraq came two days after Kurdish officials and doctors said they believed ISIS murderous Moslems had released some kind of toxic gas in an eastern district of Kobani.

Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Light of the Alawites...
's government also is widely believed to have unleashed chemical weapons during the civil war, despite its repeated denials. Chlorine gas is readily available and used in industry around the world, but can also be used as a weapon.

Angela Kane, the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
' disarmament chief, also acknowledged the new risks posed by terrorists.

"There is a very distinct threat that has arisen and actually also is being investigated by the OPCW with a fact-finding mission," she said, adding that various international bodies and the U.N. are coordinating efforts to fight terrorism.

In a preliminary report issued in September, the fact-finding mission concluded that a toxic chemical, almost certainly chlorine, was used "systematically and repeatedly" as a weapon in attacks on villages in northern Syria earlier this year, but didn't apportion blame.

ISIS commander in charge of hostages expelled
[Beirut Daily Star] The alleged criminal mastermind behind the kidnapping of the Lebanese servicemen from the northeastern border town of Arsal has been expelled from ISIS, local daily Al-Akhbar said Monday.

Al-Akhbar said it had learned that Abu Talal al-Hamad, ISIS's commander for Syria's Qalamoun region, had been expelled from ISIS's ranks.

Citing activists in Qalamoun, the report said ISIS's "caliph," Abu Bakr Baghdadi, would appoint a new commander to take charge of the hostage crisis, possibly a Tunisian.

They tied Hamad's expulsion to the arrest of Abu Ahmad Joumaa, a prominent Syrian rebel commander apprehended by the Lebanese Army, as well as to avenge the death of Ahmad Taha, better known as Abu Hasan al-Falastini.

Sources told Al-Akhbar that the move would further complicate the hostage crisis.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
sources close to the Dawn of Islam Brigade played down the report, denying Hamad had been removed.

In comments to Al-Akhbar, they said Hamad had pulled away with members of his group to Homs, their hometown.

Terror Networks
Coalition Strikes Hit IS Garrison, 'Electronic Warfare' Unit
[AnNahar] Warplanes from the U.S.-led coalition battling the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group hit dozens of jihadist vehicles and bases, including an "electronic warfare garrison," in four days of strikes, the U.S. military said Monday.

Between November 28 and December 1, coalition aircraft and drones bombed targets in Iraq and Syria, where they hit Lions of Islam besieging the town of Kobane and IS headquarters in Raqa.

In Raqa, they struck a tank, 14 other vehicles, a jihadist base and what they described as an electronic warfare garrison and a separate "jamming system," U.S. Central Command said.

Kobane, on Syria's northern border with Turkey, is in the grip of an intense battle between Kurdish militia fighters and IS jihadists.

This was the scene of 17 of the 27 strikes conducted in Syria over the four-day reporting period, and the U.S. military said seven IS units, two buildings, three tanks and four vehicles were hit.

Separately, a strike targeted the so-called "Khorasan Group," a network of veteran al-Qaeda operatives, near Aleppo. No damage report or casualty estimate was given for this strike.

In Iraq, a further 28 strikes hit IS vehicles, artillery, bases and fighting positions near the towns of djinn-infested Mosul

, Hit, Tal Afar, Tikrit and Ramadi.

In Syria, the U.S.-led campaign is supported by planes and pilots from Bahrain, Jordan, Soddy Arabia

, and the United Arab Emirates.

In Iraq, the coalition is joined by Australia, Belgium, Britannia, Canada, Denmark, La Belle France and the Netherlands.

The strikes began in Iraq in August after the Islamic State group captured Mosul and launched a lightning offensive that seized swathes of the country's western desert, threatening the approaches to Baghdad.

The campaign was later extended to Syria after President Barack Obama

vowed to "degrade and ultimately destroy" the IS threat through strikes and increased support for Iraqi and Kurdish forces.

Indian ISIS recruit quits after having to clean toilets
[Beirut Daily Star] An Indian student who traveled to Iraq to join ISIS has returned home disillusioned after jihadis made him clean toilets and do other menial jobs, according to media reports.

Areeb Majeed, 23, left for Iraq with three friends in late May amid fears by authorities that ISIS faceless myrmidons were attempting to recruit from India's large pool of young Moslem men.

The engineering student flew home Friday to Mumbai where he was tossed in the slammer

and charged by India's elite National Investigation Agency (NIA) with terror-related offenses.

Majeed told NIA officers he was sidelined by the jihadis for whom he fetched water and performed other lowly tasks such as cleaning toilets, instead of taking part in the deadly offensive like he wanted, the Press Trust of India news agency reported.

He phoned his family to say he wanted to come home after suffering an unexplained bullet wound for which he did not get proper medical attention, the agency said late Sunday.

"Only after I begged them, I was taken to a hospital," he was quoted as saying by NIA officers.

"There was neither a holy war nor were any of the preachings in the holy book followed."
