Maywood is a relatively prosperous black suburb of Chicago. It is no Ferguson. The FD Chief is a bigot and buffoon, and the good people of Maywood deserve better.

Nice to see the fire chief firmly handle the hall monitor duties with both hands up his ass. Good question would be who is in charge while he is making sure shoelaces are tied beginning inside over outside and chewing gum is sugar free? Why worry about training on how to defeat the new roll cages on modern vehicles and how to operate the software which will diagram where all the go-boom air bags are when there might be pictures of boobies.

Just a wild guess, but I'd vote for affirmative action hire and promotion. He isn't the least bit good at his job, likely knows it, and is threatened by the competence of his juniors. Who also know that he is an affirmative action hire, got his promotion by the same means, and likely hold him veiled contempt.
I'd also bet that he is a petty martinet and that morale in that particular station is in the pits. At some point, the chief will be slid into a position where he won't have any actual supervisory duties, but be in charge of ordering office supplies for the head office. Or something equally pointless.
Do I get a prize? Yes, I am cynical - comes from experience.

Ohhhh - I am thrilled! Thanks to all the Academy; I am so overcome. (takes out hankie, sniffs into it) The honor of the evidence of this esteem is more than I can bear! (another sniff into the hankie)
So - is there any money involved? Ah, thought not. Carry on.

Why do these people stay here if they hate it so much? He's probably got rudimentary medical training; he'd be welcomed in Liberia.

Well, you MIGHT get a COLA increase in your paycheck come January. That is, unless BIO gets ticked at something the military either does, or didn't do.

[PJMedia] Pity Barack Obama. Our hapless chief executive must be suffering from a cognitive disorder the size of Alpha Centauri. The poor guy grew up on the anti-imperialist mouthings of lefty poet Frank Marshall Davis, schoolboy revolutionary Bill Ayers and later anti-Israel professor Rashid Khalidi, not to mention the well-known anti-American excrescences of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, and now he has to go to war -- as an imperialist -- against the very Third World people he was told again and again we colonized and destroyed. His head must be about to explode.
No wonder he insisted in his Wednesday night speech that the Islamic State is not Islamic -- what is it? Hindu? Zoroastrian? A lost tribe of Hasidic Jews? -- and that we are fighting an amorphous "terrorist group" (the Irish Republican Army? Basque separatists perhaps?), not the jihadism whose violent ideology has so obviously metastasized across several continents under many guises during his administration with no end remotely in sight. He dares not name our enemy, although it's almost impossible to imagine how we could win without doing so. He cannot say anything that's true because he doesn't know what is true or, perhaps more likely, is terrified to know and then have to admit it. If he did, everything would unravel, not just the jejune Marxism of Frank Marshall Davis. Everything.
But he does know what his poll numbers are and they aren't good. So we are where we are. Half way in and half way out. Forget Winston Churchill. Forget Douglas MacArthur. The USA is going to war with a nowhere man who no longer knows what he stands for -- and who originally stood for very little more than widely discredited and tired left-wing drivel masquerading as hope and change. Now even that's gone, a distant memory.
We all remember the Beatles' lyrics:
He's a real Nowhere Man
Sitting in his Nowhere Land
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
Two days ago, according to reports, Obama was still reluctant to do anything about the beheaders of ISIS, but was finally driven to act because of those disastrous polls and broad hints from some of his party members that he was leading them to electoral disaster. Others in that same party were mortified he might actually go to war, so, being Barack Obama, in other words a nowhere man, he split the difference -- no boots on the ground (except for a piddling 475 advisers -- let's hope there won't be any "mission creep").

He never had a face to face intel briefing, wanted to read and ruminate over the written brief...yeah right, he didn't want to hear it and he used the written brief as a coaster for his morning coffee...he finds out things on the news because he ignores briefings and tunes out in cabinet meetings.
Oh by the way, any news on how often he actually has a cabinet meeting a la Eisenhower, Reagan or Clinton? Or Bushes?
Anyone with a Harvard law degree working as a community organizer in Chicago either made terrible grades, didn't go to Harvard Law, or is such a mental light weight as to not be able to do anything else.

Is Obama sure we can go back into Iraq even without any additional evidence of WMDs? That seemed to be a very big election discussion item by the media and Obama in 2008.
[DAWN] TWO words best describe the reaction of the law-enforcement personnel who were supposed to guard the Dera Ismail Khan ... the Pearl of Pashtunistan ... jail when TTP Lions of Islam stormed it last July: abject surrender.
This is the gist of a new report looking into the incident issued by an inquiry committee formed by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

[DAWN] It is a typical summer flick, but it holds a great lesson for the global power politics. Hercules, released earlier in the summer, shows how the son of Zeus fights against tyrants only to realise later that he has been tricked into fighting against the good guys.
President Barak Obama must also feel very Herculean. He and other Western leaders supported the Syrian rebels against Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Before going into the family business Pencilneck was an eye doctor. If he'd stuck with it he'd have had a good practice by now... .

It is not the first time, and is unlikely to be the last, that the monsters created by the Western powers returned to haunt them.
"Western powers" as well as feckless western voters. Excellent, hard hitting synopsis.

This whole thing has to be giving Assad a case of the giggles. And as it evolves into a multi-national event, we're left to the mercy of whoever decides to make a deal first (France or Germany). Because once we provide the leverage for their commercial finagle, we'll be left standing alone and being all war-like.

Last night Obama said:
Across the border, in Syria, we have ramped up our military assistance to the Syrian opposition. Tonight, I again call on Congress to give us additional authorities and resources to train and equip these fighters. In the fight against ISIL, we cannot rely on an Assad regime that terrorizes its people; a regime that will never regain the legitimacy it has lost.
Obama acts like ISIL wears uniforms that can be distinguished from the other riff-raff. We don't have any Humint on the ground in Syria or Israel to give us this info. We seem to have really stupid and naive people in State. I'm thinking this campaign against ISIS is not going to go so well.
Moreover, Obama also said:
I deployed several hundred American service members to Iraq to assess how we can best support Iraqi Security Forces. Now that those teams have completed their work -- and Iraq has formed a government.
That Iraq has formed a government is questionable. Fuad Masum (current Iraq President), is a Kurd, and is going to have his hands full dealing with Sunni and Shia. Again, we gave up Humint when Obama pulled out all the troops.
A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
